I'm so glad I decided not to go to national chain for lunch! I ducked into this "deli" and was blown away by the quantity and quality of food. It's a sparsely decorated but very clean venue that serves trays of traditional Korean fare. They were out of or didn't have bibimbap (still unsure because I thought the menu on the wall...) anyway the meal was huge for lunch and really exciting with cabbage and radish kimchi, purple rice, and a half a crab for banchan (side dishes). I'd never had korean crab before and found it rather impenetrable, bot physically and intellectually... myself a fish out of water trying to crack the shell with pure broiler force while napkins were wrapped around it... still wondering if anyone knows what that was or how to eat it... Can't wait to visit again! The hostess was very kind to the odd man tripping in for bibimbap. :)

FYI the sign outside says "Ajumma Sundae Deli", not Kimbob Deli. Not sure why Yelp has it under a different name. Anyway, OMG. I LOVE THIS PLACE. Price and portions are unbeatable. I don't think anything on the menu is even over $13 and the Ajummas are so so nice. You can taste and feel the warmth in their food! This is by no means a fancy Korean place, but the food gives homemade, authentic vibes. I always get the Beef Stew Hot Pot because I literally can't seem to get it anywhere else since Volcano Soon Tofu closed down. It comes with 3 sides, 2 of which will always be kimchi and the third one is rotating. Some dishes like the Tonkatsu does not come with sides. All delicious! After you pay, there is a counter to the left where you pick up food which is also where the complimentary fishcake soup(?) is located. I grab a bowl of soup to start my meal and enjoy it while I wait for my number to be called. On rare days that I don't finish my meal, I will need a to go plastic container to carry the soup. They do charge $0.50 I believe for a plastic container but I think it's pretty reasonable given how unbelievably affordable and they are. I try to remember to bring my own. The styrofoam takeout boxes are free though if you're not eating soup. They messed up my order twice but both times were handled very satisfactorily. They gave me a totally different dish from the one I ordered and just came out with a brand new one without making me return the first one. The second time they forgot to add rice cake into my beef stew hot pot so they made a whole bowl of rice cake soup with clear noodles. Both times, they made amends with a smile! I will keep coming back again and again til my dying day!

    Donkatsu: very good very crunchy!

This place is a small Korean place "a taxi driver restaurant" as Koreans call it. They have a limited menu and it's legitimately run by 2 ahjummas (older ladies) it seems about half of their menu is already made and packaged like the kimbops and the chicken (which are both amazing!) they are NOT a service and serving restaurant. This is a self place, you order at the register, grab your water, and utensils yourself, grab you food from the counter next to the registrar yourself (if it's hot or need to be cookies food it comes on a metal tray after prep- if it's already packaged you grab it from the table next to the register. Then you sit eat and clean up your stuff yourself- put the metal tray with all dishes on the tall metal rack and go! The food is very good! It had a homey taste! Highly recommend! But they are again not serving you, customer service is not really a thing!

I really enjoy Jjolmyeon and Sundae at this place. Generally, everything tastes good. The portions are quite generous. It gives you a feel of a typical Korean snack place. It's always satisfying to go there, and the variety of choices is great. The service is also good.

Great spot for . The kimbap is packed up and ready to go by the cashier for those looking for a quick meal on the go. Otherwise, there's a larger menu for things that can be prepared. My mom, sister, and I decided to dine in, but a lot of people came in for takeout. We got two things of kimbap, a tteokbokki, and fried dumplings. We also ordered a side of fish cake soup, not knowing that a little bit of it comes with the tteokbokki, but it was good that we got it, because it stayed warm longer (it was a larger portion). You order at the counter and pick up your own food when it's ready, and then bus the table when you're done. The cashier wasn't the friendliest to me, a noob who took longer than she wanted to order, but she was super busy trying to juggle everything so no hard feelings. I would definitely go back for a quick meal.

2018 Yelp 100 Challenge 26/100 Easy place to grab your quick bites. I did settle for their Udon. Not the best and can taste tons of msg in the soup base. (Maybe I ordered the wrong thing) I did enjoy the seaweed w/ rice and small side of squid dish but then again.... waaaay too much in the roll. My friend ordered the bean paste - DANK!! and delicious. I'll give another try with Soondae gook next time.

Great place to eat for lunch. Friendly and homie vibe. I love the bento box to go. Multiple items inside the box and is always delicious. Decent price and portion!

TL;DR: Simple Korean stews, kimbap and soondae executed well at a great price point makes Ajumma an easy 5 star location. The free gejang as a banchan with your meal takes this place above and beyond. I wasn't expecting the food to be amazing when I first walked in, but I was quickly proven wrong. I ordered the dongani (beef tendon soup, $11) and shared a plate of the soondae (blood sausage, $10) with a couple others. Any stew here comes with several banchan, of which most are pretty standard, including regular napa kimchi and cubed radish kimchi. However the gejang (raw soy sauce marinated crab) is what makes this place stand out. This is a rare find in Houston, where I'm from, and pretty expensive almost anywhere else. The flavor is surprisingly clean and it has a very soft, almost gelatinous, meaty texture similar to a softer raw tuna. Paired with plain steamed rice, it definitely makes for a pretty tasty--and free--bite. The Dongani had a flavor profile very similar to Sul Lang tang, and comes as a milky white beef broth in a hot stone bowl with a bunch of large pieces of stewed beef tendon and clear glass noodles. The portions here are generous and I found myself eating a lot of tendon yet somehow still finding more pieces in the broth. Some pieces were a little tougher, but given the price and portion, it didn't warrant giving this place less than 5 stars. Soondae here comes in a pretty huge portion as well, and I would say could easily be split between 5. I also sampled the budae jigae and bulgogi kimbap and both were quite good. The Budae jigae was a little less exceptional, but certainly would hit the spot if you're feeling a hot and spicy stew. Ajumma has 2 locations so far, but I hope the third will be soon to follow (perhaps in Houston?) 5 stars.

A lot of soup options that you can't get anywhere else. Bulgogi was in the top 3 I've ever had. Mother in law had some cold soup which is pictured. I can't remember the name. She gobbled it up and she is a picky Korean.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST KEPT SECRET OF DALLAS K-TOWN!!!!! I saw this place from Amy Z's check ins. Shout out!!! I only know about kimbap from watching Korean dramas. Never actually got to taste it! When I saw kimbap from this place. I knew I had to go try it!!!! this place has got to be one of the best finds for me. The lady was so nice and sweet. I ordered dukbokki (spicy rice cakes) it was good! not too spicy for me. It was just right and also, the kim bap was so goood!!!! it was only $2 for like a whole roll! kim bap is korean version of sushi for those who don't know. Instead of fresh fish, there's eggs inside. It's good. You just eat it with your hand. I got a whole roll for $2!!!!!!! I could eat kimbap every day!!! this place is best for college student budgets. I mean $2 can fill you up. That covers one meal. I call that living on a budget!!!!! :)

The reason why there are not that many reviews for this place is because of the fact that the food is too good to share with others so people want to keep it a secret AND most of the people who dine here do not get online to post reviews AND most of the customers(99.9%) are Asians. And you know us Asians. hehe The cold spicy vegetable noodles(vegetarian friendly) is absolutely delish and fried pork cutlet is divine. They have kimbap(kind of like california rolls but Korean version) and they also have pork clear noodle sausages. The minus ONE star is the size of the place because it is not big enough to fit all their customers and the temperature of the restaurant is not always the "coolest" place to eat.

But while this is a very prestigious endorsement, my past visit wasn't up to previous visits. My Overall Rating - 3 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - There are several tables with built in grills and private rooms, and we didn't use our grill, but I was a bit uncomfortable in the restaurant. It was really hot in the restaurant, and I'm not sure they turned down the A/C. Aside from that, the restaurant is nice and clean. You can also check the meat display case for the beef and pork cuts on display. 1/2 Star. Service - Our server was very nice. He brought out water and another server brought all the wonderful Korean sides. The service was superb and is a reason they would have landed in D Magazine's Best issue. 1 Star. Food - The menu has been updated, and prices have gone up (everywhere). But my main issue was the Kalbi wasn't very tender. In fact, I had to use my hands to pull the meat from the bone. Granted, I always use this technique when eating Kalbi, but this time it took more effort. The marinated, grilled beef still had a delicious, sweet Korean flavor, and the Seafood Pancake is a must order. Overall, though, I've had a better experience in my past visits. 1/2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. I've been going to Koryo for years. I hope their recognition in D Magazine wasn't a signal for them that they've made it and stopped trying. I'm pretty loyal and will come back, and I hope they improve. 1 Star.

When I walked in, the place was empty. I stood at the "Please wait to be seated" sign for way longer than necessary--especially since there were no other customers. I finally peeked in and saw two employees busy counting receipts and money at the register. (Bad Impression #1). After being seated, I was actually enjoying the music until I felt something sticky on my forearm. It was a stray bean sprout left on the table (Bad Impression #2). To make matters worse, the tables are incredibly low. Even at my height, I had to hunch over the entire time. I eventually gave up on table manners and just held the rice bowl up to my face to eat comfortably. Regarding the food: it was a bit salty. The kimchi fried rice was average, but the kimchi stew really missed the mark. That was the moment I realized this is a fusion spot, not authentic Korean. It wasn't horrible, but it's definitely different from the real thing. BUT, can we talk about the massive portions? (Good Impression #1). Everything is clearly meant to be shared. The service was actually good. They have a buzzer on the table for service, which I loved. It saves you from having to track down a waiter. (Good Impression #2). The ambiance is loud, poppy, and "hip." You better like K-pop if you're coming here. It's not a first-date spot because it's hard to hear each other, but it's a solid place to hang out with friends who like the genre. Will I come back? Not actively. But if someone else suggests it, I won't fight them on it.

The restaurant shines with its premium, high-quality meats--sourced thoughtfully, including standout options from 44 Farms--carefully selected and prepared by Michelin-recognized chefs. Whether you go for the popular Taste of JOA (Signature or Premier boards) or individual cuts, the beef and pork options consistently impress with rich marination, perfect tenderness, and that satisfying sizzle on the grill. Popular favorites that reviewers rave about include the marinated bone-in short rib (galbi), prime short rib, ribeye, hanger steak, pork belly, and specialties like flash-fried short ribs or shrimp. The meats arrive beautifully presented, cook evenly at the table, and deliver deep, savory flavors--often described as juicy, flavorful, and reminiscent of authentic home-style Korean cooking elevated with premium technique. Sides (banchan) are a highlight: fresh, generous, and "unreal" according to many, with standouts like mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, steamed egg soufflé, corn cheese, kimchi fried rice, and soybean paste stew (doenjang jjigae) that round out the meal perfectly. The experience wraps up sweetly with ice cream for a complete, shareable feast ideal for groups or celebrations. The atmosphere enhances everything: lively, stylish, and vibrant with a sleek, modern interior featuring neon accents that feels fun and energetic without being overwhelming--perfect for date nights, family gatherings, or special occasions. Service earns frequent praise for being attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, with staff guiding first-timers through the grilling process. Cocktails and drink towers add to the festive vibe, pairing beautifully with the smoky, savory food. Nuances and considerations: Pricing reflects the premium ingredients and experience (Taste of JOA runs around $42-$54+ per person, with upgrades for A5 Wagyu or larger parties), so value opinions vary--some see it as worth every penny for the quality and fun interactive element, while others note it can feel a bit higher-end for casual dining. A few reviews mention occasional inconsistencies in service pacing during busy times or subtle variations in ambiance depending on the crowd, but the majority describe it as consistently enjoyable and welcoming. Portions work best when shared, and the interactive grilling adds a social, hands-on layer that many love (bring a group to maximize the fun). Note that as of recent updates, the restaurant has been temporarily closed--check their website, social media, or call ahead for current status before planning your visit. Overall, JOA Grill excels at blending tradition with innovation: fire-kissed premium cuts, abundant flavorful sides, creative cocktails, and a lively yet comfortable setting make it a standout choice for anyone craving high-quality Korean BBQ in Dallas. It's frequently called one of the best in the city for good reason--great for meat lovers, groups, and those seeking an elevated yet fun dining adventure.

Took me a while to write this, but I came back here because I had a good dinner here and decided to…read moredo a Korean bbq closer to my home. We were even greeted with a welcome back and given a welcome back coupon, which I loved, so the night started out well. Now for context to my frustration, last time we went here, our server cooked everything, so we only came back because we wanted to go to a Korean bbq specifically where they cooked the meat for you as well. Apparently, that isn't the norm. We ordered drinks and then waited a substantial amount of time before the servers came back to ask for our food order. Literally the table next to us ordered before us and we're basically near the end of their meal before we even ordered. Mind you, we were seated right in the thick of where the servers go in and out of the kitchen and you can see everything going on (or lack of anything). Drinks took forever to come and they started cooking one of the meats and then never came back. They kept walking past our table and not saying anything. We had to tell them that we needed help and asked if someone was going to cook for us. They apologized and would start cooking again only when we complained, but then would proceed to leave and not come back until we asked again. They kept giving us excuses that they were short staffed, which is understandable, but not when we can see them literally doing nothing about it. There was no sense of urgency or trying to work harder since they were understaffed. They would stand at the little computer at the door to the kitchen looking like they were doing something, while the rest of the restaurant was being ignored. We mentioned to them multiple times that we were being ignored and they offered to take care of us with dessert or maybe comp something at the end. At this point, I'm quiet because I'm visibly annoyed by the incompetence and got to the point where I didn't even want to talk to the staff anymore. I kinda have RBF, so I know they were feeling my frustration. We were almost done eating and were waiting for them to start cooking the shrimp, which was the last meat on our combo, and the server came by and asked if we wanted the check. I was like, "we aren't even done eating, we were waiting for someone to cook the shrimp." Now if they initially told us that we would be cooking, this all wouldn't be a problem, but we were under the impression that they would cook our food, which was the root of the entire service problem we were having. Finally, they came by with desserts that were on the house, even though I really wanted them to just comp something instead, but they didn't give us the option. We didn't even want dessert, but were forced to eat it because they felt it was a good solution to the problems with service. They even asked if we wanted a shot on the house, but I didn't want to drink alcohol that night, and when I refused, they teased me about it. It's my business if I want to drink or not, but don't assume everyone thinks alcohol solves everything. That left a sour note in my mind and sealed the deal that we won't come back. For how expensive this restaurant is, they need to have top tier service, and this was not it. I suggest you stay away!

Server was very polite but it was obvious they were understaffed by a lot. 1 server and whole restaurant was full. Regardless, server did a great job keeping up. Food: Side dishes: the kimchi, cucumber kimchi, spicy fish cake were great. The salad was okay. The japchae noodles were mediocre. And the pickled daikon didn't taste like they used much vinegar. Dipping sauces were all great. Sesame oil, samjang blend, a sweet and spicy sauce. Meat: enjoyed the brisket, beef belly, pork belly, beef finger meat, Hawaiian pork belly. The Galbi marinade would have been better with the finger meat marinade. Overall had a great meal and would come again. Hopefully will be better staffed next time!

The restaurant is in an old building in a strip mall so feels a little grungy but floors (maybe newly done?) were slippery. Food itself was decent. We paid $3 extra per person for the shrimp and beef short ribs. Kids under 4 eat free and kids under 10 are half off. Because it's an all you can eat, we definitely ate until we were satisfied. Unfortunately after an AYCE KBBQ, your stomach suffers the next day so buyer beware

I've been coming here pretty consistently over the last 5 years and seen it evolve and expand over the years. It's easy to call ahead and make reservations. They used to be BYOB but I believe that is no longer the case. Although it's not AYCE, I think it's still worth it for the better meat quality, and prices are very reasonable. We usually order one of the beef combos and switch out one of the items for pork jowl (one of my favorite cuts, especially when it's crispy). The combos come with lots of side dishes, salad, rice, lettuce, soup, steamed egg, and corn cheese, making it a very complete meal. The servers offer to help you grill if you'd like. I think that the charcoal gives the meat so much more flavor, and I also love throwing some garlic on the grill. I always leave this place satisfied!
