Right now during COVID it's recommended to make reservations as they were pretty pack and open for a short period of time. Inside looks clean. Our waiter was decent, not bad nor great. We ordered hot sake that came in this cute bottle. It was tricky pouring our shots out of it because some of it was spilling out. The food we ordered, which was the bulgogi. We were impressed with the flavor, it was not salty at all, however it came with a very small bowl of rice with a big entree. It does come with a side of kimchi and miso soup. The sushi; asparagus roll, shrimp tempura, California and spider roll was what we ordered. - Asparagus roll, was ok - California roll, was ok -spider roll, are always my go to roll and this was ok. The end pieces are usually the best. - shrimp tempura was good Overall the sushi was ok, I was expecting something more for the price they charged. Do I believe $87 was worth it? Ordered pick up from here while visiting family in Columbus and it was nothing short of a great experience. When we arrived to pick up the order, it was ready and the woman who checked us out was friendly. The restaurant was also packed for dine in (they had to turn folks away from tables!). The sushi was really fresh and there was a wide variety of rolls to choose from. We ordered several speciality rolls, regular sushi rolls, and a handful of sushi pieces. The fatty tuna was excellent. My favorite sushi roll was the tuna bliss A. One more positive to note: a member of our party eats gluten-free and the staff was extremely respectful and attentive to this need by separating the rolls that she could eat and skipping the roe on top of them (which apparently has soy sauce)! Delicious sushi. Easily one of the top in Columbus. Fresh fish and rice was perfectly cooked and sticky. I'd say they have some unique options in comparison to a lot of other places roll wise. Loved the pixie roll! Mango was perfectly ripe. Some really nice wine options. It was pretty busy for a Friday I'd say. Service wasn't so great. Very friendly staff but SLOW. It didn't seem like they were understaffed, but I'm not sure. Food did come out earlier than we were told it would (45 mins) but we weren't checked on after that and were looking for our waitress for quite awhile trying to get our check. Pretty darn good. Went for dinner Friday night with a friend, after making reservations. We had a nice booth and server - I had a glass of wine to start, then we both had the California boxes. Shared it with my fiancée- I advise you to do the same. Most of their entrees are big enough for two! My fiancée's parents both got their own and couldn't finish it. Love sushi and especially at Aki Hana - the signature rolls are really good. we got the spicy scallop which was definitely on the creamier heavier side and one of the tuna specialty rolls. The service was really good - we actually came on a random tuesday evening and they had a 30 mins wait for 3 people but it went by fast. Love their seaweed in the appetizer! All I can say is WOW! I'm continually blown away by the fantastic ambiance that Akai Hana is always able to deliver. With such beautiful decor, I always have an amazing dining experience. This experience, of course, is also met with the help of the large array of delectable Asian dishes and cuisines that are on the menu. When I visited the other day, I was amazed by the deliciously delicate sushi that had been prepared and served. You could truly taste the expertise, love, and compassion the sushi chefs have with every single bite. Not only was the food top notch, but the service left nothing to be desired. This place had been on my list for a long time! Many people had told me that they've got the best sushi in town! Pricey, but worth it! I came on a Monday evening around 7:45 and it was a little busy! I saw mostly families, couples, people who probably came after work. It started clearing up more as it hit 8pm. We got seated immediately though. Lots of open tables. They've got a lot of booths and tables for 4 people. They can also accommodate big groups! We decided to order the spring rolls. Our friend is vegetarian. The menu said it came with 5, but they gave us 3. Maybe because there were 3 of us? I don't know if they charged us less or what. The spring rolls were good though! Especially with the sauce! We all ordered sushi, of course. My friend got the Harvest sushi. It had sweet potato, squash tempura, onions, spicy mayo, sprouts and was wrapped in soy rather than seaweed. She liked it! But she was hungry. It was only 5 pieces. My other friend got the new spider roll. It was soft shell crab, avocado, spicy mayo, lettuce, and fish eggs. Also, very good! She also had a few and wasn't hungry but wasn't full either. I got the red dragon sushi. I would say mine was more bang for your buck. It was presented well! Shrimp tempura inside and spicy tuna on the outside. It really looked like a dragon! Very cute! The food came quick! Of course, they weren't slammed. Our waitress was super attentive. Cleared plates as soon as they were empty and filled waters. She must've been watching us from the other side of the room. Haha! Sushi is expensive. But you're paying for presentation. What's great is that the menu has pictures. If you want to be full. Pick a sushi roll that has more pieces. The menu has a good variety though but again, you've got to be willing to spend at least $15. I had been meaning to try Akai Hana for a long time and was delighted that it lived up to my expectations. I was craving sushi and my husband also wanted something hot, so we came here and proceeded to chow down on two special rolls, some sashimi, appetizers, and an udon noodle dish. We really liked everything that we ate. They are clearly popular, and at 5:25pm-ish on a Friday evening, we had about a 30 minute wait. (Fortunately we were able to do some shopping across the street to pass some time.) The restaurant atmosphere is nice, even with some refurbishment going on. I noticed a room on the way to the restrooms that is clearly able to accommodate private parties as well. Service was excellent, prices seemed reasonable, and we took home some leftovers for later. I would say Akai Hana got me into sushi. There wasn't a single roll I tried that I didn't love.. and I've never been big into sushi. The service was good, it took a little bit to get our food but it's sushi so it was totally understandable, we ordered a lot. The inside of the store is pretty basic but non the less cool. The coolest part is that the store is located in an all Japanese little strip mall and it's very authentic. I definitely recommend trying out Akai Hana! read more

I was expecting to wait to be seated because I wasn't able to make a reservation, but was seated right away when they opened on a Sunday! (I would still make a reservation because we probably just got lucky that day) Our server was super nice and patient since it was our first time and the atmosphere was nice for a date. The options are ENDLESS and the sushi was fresh. Normally a roll and a half would make me full, but I was full after one. So if you have any plans for coming here, it's best you make a reservation in advance rather than call the night of. I called at 4pm on Friday afternoon and wasn't able to get a reservation till 8:30pm. We instead ordered takeout, which was super convenient, easy, timely, and the food transported well on the drive home. It's like walking into a restaurant in Kyoto. Beautiful setup, lots of wood, very authentic Japanese feel. I was here for lunch and sat at the sushi bar. I tried 3 items. The king crab roll, spicy tuna soy paper hand roll and Tororossa roll. They were all freshly prepared and well made. First time I tried king crab in sushi and I think the delicate flavor of the crab is lost with all the rice. The hand roll was prefect and the Tororossa was intricate and well made. A couple days ago, I went to Akai Hana for a friends birthday and it was a great experience. When you first arrive, there is a parking lot that's shared with a market. I believe there is also parking behind Akai Hana as well. We were kind of a large group and they accommodated to us well. They had our table ready and brought all of our orders out around the same time and it didn't take too long to do it. I ordered Tuna Bliss A and a salmon roll. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The flavors in Tuna Bliss A were amazing. The eel sauce and siracha with the tuna went well. I couldn't get enough! The salmon was delicious as well. Went to Akai Hana this past week on a Friday. Made reservations for 6:30 but plans had changed and we went early around their opening time at 5:00pm. We were even early for that and walked around the Asian market and I have to say it has a lot to offer with a grocery store and bakery in the same plaza. When opening rolled around we walked on over. We were already the 4th or 5th table but were seated quickly. The waitstaff is friendly and very attentive. Akai Hana also has the more traditional towels to cleanse your hands before your meal. The menu has pictures which is very helpful when ordering sushi. We ordered around 5 rolls and steamed dumplings and were very impressed at the speed our dishes came out in. The dumplings were seasoned well and the sushi was very fresh. We love going to sushi at various places but noticed that the usual rolls we get were just better at Akai Hana. Only negative about the place is the ambience is dated and could use a more modern face lift. To me walking in it felt like an old steakhouse and the inside was just dated.
