#7 Shrimp Scallop and Crab roll
    Michelle B.

Chiba absolutely remains a 5/5 for my family and I! We once again came by without a reservation, this time on a Friday night. We totally thought we'd have to wait but were able to be seated immediately. We also learned this time that while the parking lot remains ultra packed, there is a large outdoor parking lot the side street over for the businesses there that are closed at night (minus the gym) so I think its fine to park there. Spicy Tuna Okoge 5/5, we came for this and this is what I titled "Crunchy rice spicy tuna appetizer" in my last review, pasted here: very fun, comes cut into 4 pieces, definitely a fun appetizer, our waitress recommended this and said it's one of their more popular items Spicy Salmon cut roll 5/5, mildly spicy but leaves you with a stronger spicy aftertaste, soft and very fresh! We would reorder this! Scallop cut roll 3.5/5, fresh but just felt like it was missing something. I think the scallops need more than just a rice wrap. This was improved with soy sauce I think in the future we'd stick to ordering scallops in a more special roll

I honestly can't say enough amazing things about Chiba - it's been one of my favorite restaurant spots since 2008 when I was first introduced to it through a close friend whose dad used to go to the OG location back in the day. To this day, whenever he's in town, I'm there with them, sitting at the bar. The food here is made with love and every item on the menu feels incredibly authentic and flavorful. From sashimi to rolls to the hot dishes, it's all an experience. One of our favorites is the Salmon Toro with Black Caviar- rich, buttery salmon topped with caviar that just elevates the bite. We also love the snapper, uni, oyster uni shooters, soft shell crab hand rolls, and the spicy tuna on crispy rice- honestly, every menu item we've tried has been incredible. And the sweet shrimp (amaebi) is a must. They serve it beautifully fresh and then tempura-batter the shrimp heads so you get that crispy, savory crunch after the delicate sweetness of the shrimp. It's one of those details that makes Chiba so special. Chiba doesn't just serve food, it serves memories. It's fresh, soulful, and just downright delicious. If you love real, honest Japanese flavor, this place should absolutely be on your list.

Been coming here for years now. 10/10 every single time. Service is wonderful & fast Food is always fresh and the ambiance is so inviting. Love it !

We didn't have a reservation but the kind staff seated us right away even though they were very busy. The restaurant is very large and has a large outdoor seating area as well. It was our first time here. The complimentary pickled veggies were delicious and very much appreciated. While waiting for our order I mixed the wasabi with soy sauce. The rolls were heavily sauced so much that it was my first time not using any of my soy sauce concoction. The sauces completely took over the rolls. The Spicy Tuna Okoge appetizer was excellent. The thick rice cake was crispy on the outside and the center was warm and chewy. The Baked Salmon roll had too much sauce as if to cover something up. I used my chopsticks to wipe the sauce off. The Car Wash roll was great at first with the lemon taste coming through nice and strong but I was hit with the smokiness of the smoked oil which was very offputting and ruined the roll for me. The smokiness was all I could taste trying a second piece. I preferred the Baked Salmon roll to the smokiness of the Car Wash roll and the other two people in my party had the opposite preference. Either way all three of us don't care to go back.

Chiba has been around for a while, and I used to come here more often. I recently came back with a friend, and the food is still fresh with a very chill, relaxed vibe inside. The interior could use a few updates, but it still works for the overall atmosphere. The menu is pretty extensive, which can feel a bit overwhelming, but our server was helpful in walking us through options based on what we were in the mood for. Everything we ordered was really good, and there were also a few off-menu specials, so definitely ask about those when you're there. Overall, a solid experience and worth trying if you're in the area.

Amazing and fun rolls. Spacious and good service. I recommend the spicy tuna roll. This is like Shibuya but less cramped.

The sushi here were fresh and generously portioned. I'm not a big fan of the Alaska roll, however. It's best to stick with nigiri's. Service was prompt and wonderful.

Best sushi in the valley ! My favorite is the spicy tuna with crispy rise and spicy salmon roll .

This seriously might be my new favorite Japanese restaurant. Not only do they have some of the best tasting sushi, I love how they also offer a variety of different Japanese dishes like udon, soba, combo plates, and tempura. I came here on a weekday right around opening time and got seated immediately. However, as the evening progresses this is definitely a hot spot. The service here is excellent and everyone is friendly and warm. Also, bonus points for having their own parking lot. Exotic Veggie Tempura (10/10): Great portion and loved the different types of veg in here. Perfectly light and crispy tempura batter. Spicy Tuna Roll (10/10): OMG quite possibly the best tasting spicy tuna I've ever consumed. It's marinated to perfection and the quality of tuna is so good. Albacore Sushi (10/10): Buttery melt in your mouth deliciousness. Just order it, thank me later. Hawaiian Roll (7/10): California roll with tuna on top. It was tasty but nothing to write home about. Chiba is legit. I'm already wanting to go back.

Chiba Japanese Restaurant 2025 - Best Japanese Restaurant in Los Angeles - North Hollywood, California USA

I usually don't do repeats, just can't help but to keep praising and showcasing one of my favorite Japanese restaurants, in almost any part of the world. Having been a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in Japan way back, I'd say my standards should be above to a certain degree of expectations (for myself). So, after not having sushi and sashimi for a while, I thought of dipping by Chiba again. First, they served the pickles and truly, you can only get it here this way, crunchy, sweet, fresh and has that perfect balance of sour and sweet! These pickled goodness reminds me of a Japanese Geisha walking in perfect harmony with her kimono and a well curated attire on the streets of Kyoto. The Miso soup is warm and sweet, calms me down while I wait for the sashimi royale combo. The tempura consist of shrimp, eggplant, Japanese yam and type of short bean veggie dipped into flour and friend fresh. I ordered the Deluxe Sashimi Dinner and they've never failed to serve 9 types of freshly cut fish along with a cup of sushi rice. One of the best things about China Restaurant is their fish, it's fresh and tastes like they just fished it out of the sea, a few minutes ago! To top it off, their management reminds me of Japan, they seem to mimic and appreciate your Pres eve by dropping your table and having a short chat with every table. They are polite and carry a smiling demeanor that is often absent in other restaurants these days... their awesomeness is unique...quoting a 12 year old from another table (LOL), when his parent asked how he describes Chiba. After several bites and chews, they haven't changed, their sashimi is always and still the best. Wow! So, if you're in the Los Angeles area, by the 5/170 Freeway, exit on Lankershim and head to Chiba and you'll feel like going through a portal into another dimension toward Kyoto or Sapporo! Let me finish my dinner before it gets warm! Itadakimas!

Absolutely the best quality sushi, I always drove over an hour to get here because it is that girl. She's worth it!!!

Service here was so bad. Honestly ruined the whole meal. We waited 15 minutes for water... the server messed up our order 3 times which never happens at sushi restaurant. The fish was good but wasn't as good as other places. The only notable thing here is the crispy rice. I would maybe try again but as of now would not recommend going.

Chiba Sushi Bar is an absolute favorite and easily deserving of five stars! The sushi is always fresh, delicious, and consistently high quality, making every visit a great experience. Our go-to rolls are the KB4, Moolah, Rufus, Car Wash, and Spicy Tuna, each one packed with amazing flavor and perfectly prepared. You truly can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but those rolls keep us coming back again and again. What really sets Chiba apart is how family-friendly and welcoming it is. It's the perfect spot whether you're dining with kids or enjoying a relaxed meal with friends. Fresh ingredients, incredible flavors, and a warm atmosphere, Chiba Sushi Bar never disappoints!

Spicy tuna roll. Good, but I preferred the crunchy shrimp roll.

Ask the Community - Chiba Restaurant

How do I make a reservation?

    Call them!

Do you have all you can eat?

No, this is not an "All you can eat" style Sushi place. You for sure can eat all you want, but it will be expensive.🤣

    Do you have outdoor seating?

Yes, they have outdoor seating. They have a nice patio and when it gets really full they have a tent out on the parking lot with tables.

    Do you have sushi platters?

    Yes

Hello, Do you offer all you can eat>? If so, what days and times, and how much?…

Never. You will find that anyplace that offers all you can eat sushi these days has mediocre sushi at best. Quantity is the enemy of quality!

We thought, why not? We were sat immediately and decided to browse their happy hour menu. Buy one get one for $1 on beers and a nice selection of appetizers and rolls with reduced pricing. We ordered a lot - garlic edamame, agedashi chicken, their cucumber (sunomono) salad, a red dragon roll, a spicy tuna roll, a salmon roll, and their yellowtail roll. Everything was delicious. The cucumber salad was so lovely and refreshing that we went ahead and ordered a second serving. The edamame was seasoned nicely, the chicken was juicy and fried perfectly, and all the rolls were awesome. You'd think after all that food we'd be all done... but no. Ordered one more salmon and red dragon roll. So, two beers, 6 rolls, 4 appetizers and the bill still came up under $100. Needless to say, we'll be back. Service was friendly. Cool & chill, but not completely "lazy bum" vibes. Like, don't come in wearing your pajamas. You could, but why would you do that? I appreciate the darker ambience lit up by the rather groovy neon + purple & dark blue lights. A great, chill date spot, or a relaxed restaurant for sushi aficionados. The fish is incredibly fresh. I especially like that they have a number of selections that I have never seen at other similar style upper-class sushi restaurants. An unexpected pleasant bonus is that a beer is included for only $1 when you order a bottle of Soju. Do yourself a favor: make sure to get rolls that include a variety of fish. Don't get similar rolls with the same protein. Snow Crab Cut Roll - 9.0 / 10 Baked real snow crab = inside Wrapped with soybean paper, house special bake sauce. You have to give major props when a sushi restaurant includes a roll with *real* snow crab legs. None of that fake crab stick / surimi. I wish more places could include real snow crab. The soybean paper is always a nice alternative to the more traditional seaweed wrapper. Forbidden Roll - 8.9 / 10 Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumber = Inside Topped with fresh salmon, crunch flakes, crab meat, eel sauce, & spicy mayo. Fresh Heaven - 5.7 / 10 3 Assorted fresh fish, crab meat, gobo, radish, + avocado = inside. Wrapped w/ cucumber, oriental goma sauce. The most aesthetically beautiful dish that we ordered, especially with the cucumber garnish + lovely flower. It's nice to know that cucumber can be used to wrap sushi. But it throws off the texture. Maybe it I was on a stricter diet, I may opt for a cucumber-wrapped roll. The fish was incredibly fish. Huge shout-out to Sydney P. + Charles for their warm + personable hospitality. I would happily come back because of Fujiya's unique sushi rolls, but the staff's personality is such a winner. They're truly welcoming & take great pride + pleasure in what they do. I don't blame them. Fujiya is a cool, hip, & swanky (in the best possible way) Izakaya, but it's also not pretentious. The staff here want you to have a lovely dining experience with some innovative takes on some classic sushi rolls.
