Their sushi is insanely fresh and the combinations for their rolls are tasty (Akanomi and pink panther rolls are some of our favorites). We usually stick with the sushi, though they have non-sushi options. They're also very accommodating for special requests and so pleasant when we call to place a takeout order. A hidden gem!!! This place may be small, but don't let the little place fool you, they have some of the best japanese food in the Capital District. Their sushi is amazing and always fresh, and their chicken fried rice is always a must have. Tonight I ordered the hibachi chicken which comes with soup, salad, and rice (I always pay the $2 extra for the fried rice, it's that good!) and I will easily get two meals out of all the food they give you! Akanomi is the best Japanese restaurant in Albany area. In the past several years we have been going there very often. The food is tasty and the seafood is very fresh. The owners are a great family and are very friendly. We have been very happy to see they run the restaurant successfully and expand it last year. Good for eat-in or take-out. This is a small, intimate restaurant that appears to have many regulars. It can get busy and you may need to wait a little bit for a seat, or your food, but it is well worth the wait. My parents and I stopped in here impromptu as we were holiday shopping and were very pleasantly surprised! Although we didn't have sushi, so can speak to that, the pad thai (vegetarian / shrimp) were both excellent. Likewise, the tempura udon was well cooked and quite scrumptious. Service was furthermore fantastic - super friendly and attentive. Our only complaint is that all the food was super hot, but I guess that's an indication that it's fresh from the stove! Just tried the Fresh Salmon roll for a taste of something new and it was AMAZING! It was so pretty and even tastier than it looked! Didn't need soy sauce or wasabi (even though I tried it with some just to be sure ). While visiting the Albany area We have made a pact To make this our primary stop Every time we come back Ok, I'm done. :) This place was so good, it even made me write a poem? What the heck? Anyway, I can not say enough good things about this place! We only tried their nigiri and maki, and can not speak for anything else. We have been to many sushi restaurants in our travels in the northeast, including many places in NYC. The quality and presentation of every item we ordered from their sushi and maki choices was simply amazing. It was on par with some of our best sushi experiences we've ever had. We went there on Dec. 24, and then again on Dec 27, and it was just as good. We can't wait to go back. We went here only because of yelp. Every one gave it almost five stars so we thought we would give it a try. When u pull up it looks like it is a take out place. Very small inside but clean. The staff is super friendly and helpful with the menu. We will go back here, it was terrific. Quiet and comfortable the sushi was so fresh and delish. We had salad and the love boat for two. I've had dinner and lunch here on a dozen or so times and have yet to be dissapointed. The restaurant is small but the service is good and food is delivered quickly. I do feel bad for this place because they are the first sushi I had since being back in the area from Austin, Texas (some good sushi.) I didn't care much for Akanomi. We ordered mackerel and snapper sushi. The mackerel was cooked (again spoiled from Austin) and the snapper was not very fresh.
