In short, the price has been hiked, which is acceptable due to the current society we live in but what is absurd is that the food quality has actually detoriated. My first time at Akino having all you can eat. We were a big group so they reserved us seats out in the shed. There was ac so it was comfortable. They had a large offering but the portions are small. You literally get one small piece of everything you order. Sometimes we would indicate a quantity but I noticed we never get the full amount. Not a big deal because you can always order more. Sushi was decent. Their cooked food was pretty good. The fried scallops were imitation. Service was pretty quick, there is one bathroom so expect a wait. I used to frequent this restaurant when I lived in the neighborhood a few years ago and try to make it a point to come for some good food whenever I'm back in the area. I was in the neighborhood and stopped by for dinner and boy have things changed. On a 95 degree day, they seemed to not have their AC working so that was pretty annoying. Perhaps it was broken but it just added to a poor dining experience. But the worst part of it all was the fact that everything was served in take out form. Your "plates" were a small plastic dish, the lids to the take out containers were used to serve the Kani salad, while the bottoms held other appetizers. The sushi, sashimi and roll were the only things served on a normal/appropriate dish. The staff is great, the main server even remembered me from years ago. Our waters were constantly being refilled, thankfully so, considering how warm it was. I THINK it's still BYOB (not sure - didn't ask and didn't bring anything) but that's always a big plus for large groups which I always see here. All that said, I'm really disappointed in the amount of waste and plastic used for their dine-in customers. It's not a great dining experience and is awful for the environment. For an all you can eat, the price and quality of fish is pretty decent. We went on a weekend at night and this place was very packed. I would recommend getting there early on weekends if possible. The servers were still nice and were keeping on top of our table, even though it was very busy. They do not fulfill your whole order anymore either. We ordered the same thing three times and multiple items still never came. We overheard multiple tables behind us say this isn't our order throughout the night. Sadly though, this is the third time we have gone here in the last six months for dinner and lunch and still experienced this huge delay when the restaurant is not packed. Also, a server came over and asked us to not change our infant on the table or the chair but they do not have a changing table in their bathroom which is against the law under ADA and the Babies Act of 2016. My husband and I ate here a few days ago and we experienced the most horrible service!!! My family and I always come here and sometimes the service is not great but it's never been unbearable until this incident. My husband and I wanted to eat at a decent sushi place a few days ago but we know we can't eat a lot anymore so we were very mindful of how much to order so that we can finish our food and not leave much waste. Granted, we did leave a little bit of rice left over but I think that is fair considering an AYCE restaurant. However, while we were having a conversation the waiter comes to our table and was super DISRESPECTFUL AND LOUD. She goes " next time you need to eat all the rice! I will charge you if you don't eat the rice!" and she kept saying it multiple times. It was extremely embarrassing and rude to the point where the tables next to us felt uncomfortable as well and they asked for the bill earlier. We could tell that felt bad that the waiter treated us in such a disrespectful manner. It is not what she said that triggered us but the way she said it. It was not nice at all nor was it necessary. For this reason, we will NEVER come back here and I hope there is some disciplinary action taken towards the waiter. It was just very uncalled for and we did not deserve that from her. You can get cuts of sashimi, but in AYCE places (including Akino) the quality isn't stellar although you might want to get your moneys worth focusing only on slabs of fish I would still recommend getting some interesting maki rolls that are fun to eat and offer a bit more flavor. The parking lot, along with everywhere in Elmhurst, is a traffic filled mess so plan accordingly or find parking down the street. Honestly I feel bad giving only 3 stars because I've come here once before and everything was perfect! However, after returning today, I was left a little disappointed. The restaurant was packed as always but I came with my bf at around 3:00pm on a Sunday so we only had to wait a few minutes for a table to open up. This AYCE sushi spot is the only one in the neighborhood, which is why it's always super crowded. It's a little different than other sushi restaurants because it's run by millennials like myself, super refreshing to see. Being that the main customer base seems to be millennials, they certainly know how to appeal to the right crowd. Decor is simple but modern and the plates and bowls used were very rustic and fitting to the theme. There was a limited option for the lunch menu so we opted to pay an extra $10 for the dinner menu. We felt it was worth it because it includes both sashimi and a lot of the kitchen appetizers and specialty rolls that the lunch menu did not include. You just fill out the exact quantity of each item that you want in the box next to the item. The food came pretty quickly which was nice because we were both starving! The kitchen appetizers are pretty good. My absolute favorite is the eel fried rice and the beef sirloin. The eel fried rice is so fragrant and sweet, with a generous portion of eel chunks inside. I could honestly just eat that as my meal. The sirloin was tender and sauce was a perfect compliment to the meat! I would definitely skip the beef teriyaki because that was a lot more dry than I expected. Now for the down side to my entire meal - the sashimi. When the plate of sashimi arrived, I was immediately alarmed by the vibrant color of the salmon. If I didn't know better, I would've thought that was a good thing, but I've never once seen salmon so bright orange in color. My hunch is that it's actually steelhead - a trout fish that looks and resembles the taste of salmon - also much cheaper in price. I've had it before at Costco and I can taste the difference, although many find it to be comparable in taste. The flavor of the salmon served at akino was definitely a little off which put me off for the 5 other dishes I ordered that contained salmon. Even the red snapper was strangely dry and chewy so I was disappointed by that as well. We both struggled to eat the last few pieces of salmon, which was frustrating since we opted to pay much more to be able to order the sashimi. We paid roughly $70 after tip and tax. I'm not sure if they were just having an off day or if they will continue to serve this salmon but I think I will stick to the kitchen appetizers the next time I return here. read more

I've been here four times so far and this recently became my favorite AYCE sushi buffet in queens. The first time I came here was when they first opened and honestly, I remembered having a really bad experience. It was a cold Winter day and there was no heat in the restaurant. The wind and cold air kept coming in as people were walking in and out. Because this is AYCE, my family and I expected to receive the amount (or at least close to the amount) of things that we wrote down on the paper. When we requested for 40 pieces of salmon sashimi, they gave us 14. When we requested for 30 pieces, they gave us 13. When we requested for 20, they gave us 12. You see the pattern. We stopped asking for more sashimi as it was a disappointment after disappointment when they didn't provide us with the food we wanted. The food then was pretty mediocre and it left a pretty bad impression on my family and I. Gave this restaurant another shot a year and a half later because a few friends had been there some time after they opened and they said that it was actually pretty good. The second time I went, it was on a Thursday night, around 6pm and got seated quickly. Our server was super attentive and informative with recommendations since there were additional things added to the menu from the last time I was there. We tried so many new things on the menu and was extremely happy with the food this time around. The food was delicious and they were extremely generous with the amount of food. Left this time with a really good impression and knew that I had to come back here for AYCE sushi buffet. Came back a few more times after that and always left super happy with a super full belly! From the "Kitchen" section, my favorites were the vegetable tempuras and the sirloin beef [SIRLOIN BEEF IS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The meat is so tender and JUICY]. From the "sushi bar appetizer" section, I love the salmon dragon ball. It's not something I've ever had before but it left a good impression on me because it has one of my favorite combinations - salmon AND avocado! My favorite signature rolls that I would recommend are Akino, Snow Mountain, Volcano, Tiger, Black Dragon, and Dynamite! Absolutely delicious and happy with this place. Staff is friendly and attentive when it is not too busy. This might be the best AYCE sushi that I've ever had. The fish is fresh and the rice is warm. We ordered a variety of sashimi from salmon to squid, and they all came out fresh with no fishy aftertaste. I highly recommend this month's special which is smoked salmon with a sweet sesame sauce. I had to order this 2 times. All of their other roles are great too. There was an order of sashimi that had sriracha and jalapeño on it that wasn't too great though. I knocked two stars off for the price and cleanliness. For around $42, it's definitely on the higher end of AYCE sushi buffets. The price is justified for the quality of the fish, but still worth having in mind. The table was not properly cleaned when I sat down. Try to make a reservation beforehand as people were waiting a long time for a table! It was about $28 for dinner without tax and tip. The menu is great for sushi lovers and non-sushi lovers. The menu has everything from shumai, fried scallop, beef sirloin, stir fried udon, sashimi, special rolls, etc. (I named the kitchen items I liked most). My favorite special roll was the snow mountain roll. You could tell that everything was fresh, which is hard to find with a lot of buffets. We brought a cake as well and they were super accommodating. The only thing I would say is they definitely need to expand the space. Oh no, Akino's quality sadly went down during Covid. All of our utensils were disposable, from our wooden chopsticks to sushi lids for plates. So it's definitely not the cutest presentation, as it felt rather ratchet especially for any first timers. My friend joked there were more workers than customers. She wasn't wrong. On a weekend evening, I could easily count 10 workers crowded around the already small restaurant. I still love how the workers tell you what the food is as they place it down. They also were quick to notice if any of our water cups were almost empty. Their sashimi satisfied everything I was craving the first round, and the special Akino Roll was pretty good too. However, I swear it's not because I'm full, but the quality progressively got worse with each future round after that. The sashimi already wasn't the freshest, got increasingly mushy with each round, with some pieces icy still. It was also a turnoff seeing the sashimi pieces in containers. I didn't enjoy much of their appetizers either, as they sounded better than they tasted. I'm disappointed in Akino, as this was a spot I looked forward to eating AYCE sushi from during quarantine. The Best All-You-Can-Eat Sushi Restaurant in Queens! Over the past couple years, I have tried 6 AYCE sushi places in the area, but Akino blows these other places out of the water! We heard great things about this place and couldn't wait to try it out. We were not disappointed! Not only was their food amazing, but their service was great as well. You place your orders by marking the number of each item that you want on the menu. The food came out pretty fast. The sushi chefs were great, and the sushi and rolls were made very well. They provided large pieces of sashimi, and every piece was very fresh. They have all the standard types of sashimi and more. They definitely don't skimp out on either the quality or quantity, despite being a sushi buffet. My favorite signature roll was Black Dragon roll. You can also choose from an assortment of hot entrees as well. The eel fried rice and tempura items were great. Also make sure to check in on Yelp to get free ice cream! Akino has been serving all you can eat (AYCE) sushi for years in the Elmhurst area and I was able to go recently for lunch, so I'll only be reviewing the lunch menu. Seating was pretty easy to get at 1PM on a Sunday fortunately for a party of two as there were a few open tables, so we were seated right away by the staff after verifying our vaccination status. At AYCE sushi, I feel like service is very important in making sure you get your fish and kitchen items as fresh as possible. Akino has excellent service, as the kitchen items came as soon as possible and even as we were still getting started on our kitchen items, the sushi had already come out. Within the first 5 to 10 minutes, I think most of the items we checked off had already arrived. Additionally, the staff came by constantly to refill our water and to make sure that everything was okay, so I felt that the staff were very hospitable. As for the food, I have to say that I really enjoyed the kitchen items when I usually come to AYCE sushi just for the sushi. I tried a variety of things from different kinds of tempura to the kani salad and of course the miso soup. Most of the items I had were pretty good and helped whet my appetite in anticipation of the sushi. The kani tempura might have been my favorite item alongside the spicy kani salad. I had a variety of sushi from the typical maki rolls to nigiri. Overall, I thought the nigiri was alright, as I felt the cuts were pretty small for each piece of nigiri. I guess I wasn't used to the nigiri being thin, as there's less fish in each bite. The fish felt pretty fresh though, but nothing felt outstanding. The eel nigiri was probably my favorite of the bunch though. The lunch menu is more limited in terms of the type of nigiri you can get, so you can't get the yellowtail, red clam, and octopus. There's also no sashimi option for lunch, so you can't get the fish by itself unfortunately, but you are still paying considerably less for AYCE! The maki rolls were solid as well and I think my favorites were the eel avocado along with both the spicy salmon and tuna. Similar to the nigiri, the rolls are smaller than they are at other sushi spots, but Akino does make sure to pack the actual filling, so that you don't load up on only rice, which means you get to eat more of the actual fish! As for the special rolls, I tried the Dragon, Snow Mountain, and Volcano. All the rolls were pretty good, but they are pretty similar to the other maki rolls that you can get, but with extra stuff on top. Next time, I'd opt to try Akino at dinner, so I can see how special the other special rolls are. If you like sushi and want good service, Akino is a great place to try! If you can come at lunch time, you are most certainly getting the bang for your buck as you can still get most sushi and maki roll options that you would get at dinner time. The only downside is that the menu is more limited, so if you were hoping for more special rolls or sashimi, you would have to come at dinner time! read more
