Chris did a great job of making a recommendation for our son's Camry. The Toyota radio wasn't worth repairing and the Kenwood radio far surpassed our son's expectations making it a great birthday present. The installation was perfect. He hooked up the radio to work with the factory rear camera, the steering wheel controls, and of course our son's cellphone worked both wirelessly and plugged in so it could charge via the Apple Carplay. I don't review much negative unless it's a real bummer. Escondido location and Chris took us there. Called last week for an appointment for today to get a back up camera installed. He quoted us and told us to just come in morning time. I thought it was strange he didn't get our info so I just told him we'd be there at 1130am. He said cool. Fast forward to today I called to confirm. We live in poway so drive isn't quick. My wife and I don't get the same days off in the week and we both work weekends. We also have a newborn. I talked to Chris this morning and he said he doesn't have an appointment for 1130 for myself. But for another costumer.... but he did offer to make a new one ! So there's that. We were pretty excited because plenty of our neighbors recommended this place. So this review is based solely on this experience and poor management. I have phone records of last weeks call as well. DON'T use this location for IID installations. This store and the company Intoxalock he contracts through will not help or does not care about your drivers license. The owner Chris lives up to his bad reviews here. Unprofessional and disrespectful. Along with leaving scratches on my plastic he removed and overcharging me for the installation to go under the hood when the ECU is behind the bottom dash, he thought it was a good idea to end our engagement in a yelling match because "I don't have your fucking paperwork" is the way he chooses to respond when I try to ask him to re-check for the delivery and show him the receipt that says "Recieved by Chris D". He also states "ill make sure your paperwork isn't sent here" which is a requirement for him to sign off and give to the customer. In no way was I disrespectful to this woman until she started cursing at me, and I understand the shipping isn't in her control, but being cordial and decent is in his control. This man is a complete slob, his appearance, work, and customer relations. I will not be returning here, and i recommend you find a new location to install your IID. read more

Went in today to check if a powered subwoofer I was gonna purchase from a friend was working. Store was empty. I found the one employee sitting in the back corner. I asked if he could test the unit to see if it worked and he just blurted out, "45 bucks." Just to test it? Just to plug it in? He didn't even turn completely around to face me. I know this chain has been going out of business all over and I am sure there are a number of factors causing that but customer service for your ONLY customer isn't that hard. I went to another non-chain audio shop around the corner and they stopped what they were doing, plugged in my unit and tested it thoroughly. They even gave me advise on the installation. Probably one of the cleanest and well organized Al & Ed's shops I've ever been to, Chris' shop was a spur of the moment decision pit stop. I was in town for Hot Import Nights-Del Mar and needed to kill some time and after having a good experience from the Al & Ed's in Huntington Beach, I wanted to see what Al & Ed's Escondido had to offer! Luckily for me, it wasn't crowded and Chris was able to actually give me a small tour of the shop. His install/work was so nice and organized, he even had a nice little vw bug hidden away back there too! The craziest part of it all was that I found out that Chris was the only guy there as in he does all of the sales, installs and operations-talk about dedicated right? But being such a passionate car audio person, you can tell he really knows his stuff and probably knows more than the guys @ best buy and frys *ahem. I have been taking my cars to Chris for about 15 years. I just laugh at the bad reviews left on here for Chris. Most reviews about him being busy and the only one at the shop. I can tell you from experience that Chris has done an awesome job with every one of my vehicles. The best job he did was on my Chevy Avalanche. I miss that truck!!! Made an appointment 2 weeks out to have an alarm system installed. On morning of appointment while dropping off the vehicle, I mentioned to sales clerk that best buy was unable to get an alarm system to work three weeks earlier. At that point, the sales clerk said he would not touch my vehicle because best buy screws everything thing up. I thought he was kidding. He gave me back the deposit I put down when making the appointment and said there's nothing he could do. I told him that I did automatic transmissions as a living and that I run across transmissions that other techs had worked on and messed them up. As a good tech, I told him that you learn to identify mess ups and fix them. I don't he told me. Maybe it was a good thing he refused to work on it. I wouldn't want someone that really doesn't know his trade to work on my car. I left and from my vehicle in the parking lot found a place that not only got me in that day, but installed the alarm system that works perfect for 200 dollars less than Al & Ed's wanted to charge me. Chris is the man. I started a new radio install on my wife's SUV. About 70% through the process, I ran into a snag. The screws provided by the manufacturer weren't long enough for my application, and I was hesitant about going rogue and figuring it out myself. I called Chris, and with only an hour before closing time, he told me to bring everything by. He solved the problem that I came in for, but then he completed the rest of the install for me, and he showed me a few tricks along the way. Stay away. The owner, Chris, has a SERIOUS attitude and anger problem, and is quite rude when he doesn't get his way. Talk about a control freak! Unless you want to do things exactly his way and not ask any questions or come across as challenging anything he says you'll do fine doing business with him. And make sure you don't look at any online retailers for price comparisons because you'll get a lecture from him about not supporting his "brick and mortar" store. Like, how dare I want to save myself over $1200, right!?!?! Because of his anger and temper tantrum's, due to me looking at prices online, he actually told me to go elsewhere if I didn't want to pay him FULL retail. I was inquiring if he would be flexible with me at all, and he said NO! I would have to pay full retail value and he would not consider discounting that price whatsoever. So I did exactly that (and am sooooo glad I did), and I took my business elsewhere, and found someone who was easy to deal with, polite, and more than willing to discuss various options with me, and they were VERY happy to make well over $1,500 off of me in net profits to them (interestingly they said they've had many similar complaints about this guy, as several other reviews here verify). Here's my advice to you, the owner: learn to deal with the reality of the online business environment as it exists in 2016, and treat people with more consideration and respect. The greatest thing you have to sell as a brick-and-mortar store is yourself and your customer service, and that's currently a VERY poor quality product. And get help with your anger and resentment problem, you will live longer and enjoy life more, and make others less miserable in the process. That's what we call a win-win. I have bought many car audio and video systems, from radios, bluetooth, and DVD systems from Chris over the years. He is honest and does excellent work. I have always been happy with the quality of his installaitons. Chris is not a polished salesman, and that is what I like. He will recommend good equipment and not try to sell you something you don't need. Recently I purchased a Dash Kit and Bluetooth radio for my 2011 Mustang. It looks and sounds great. What gets me going is the poor attitude some customers have that think they need to get everything when and how they want....please trust me Chris is a very professional guy with great customer service but when someone comes to your place of business and you are the only person there and you have 2 other patrons on site and you demand he walks out of his shop leaving people he doesn't know alone in his shop you have to be a real dumb person.
