I've never had muhammarah before, and it quickly joined my list of top 5 favorite dips of all time - it was the perfect mix of savory & sweet. I highly recommend Al Badawi to anyone looking for delicious Middle Eastern cuisine in Brooklyn Heights. The food is top-notch, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is perfect for a casual lunch or a night out with friends. I came here with a group of four and we were incredibly stuffed (in the best way) with the dishes we ordered. We ordered the mezze filistini ($27) which was a mixed platter of hummus, baba ghanoush, muhammara, tabbouleh, salata tahuna & labneh (paired with some delicious flatbread that came straight out of their oven), the shrimp flatbread ($21), and the fattat jaj ($28) The fattat jaj was SO GOOD and probably one of my favorite dishes. I wish I had more stomach space to finish up the rest but we were so full by the time it came that I was honestly surprised that I still thought it was good - probably means it would have been EVEN better had we gotten it earlier on in the meal. The server gave us the pistachio flatbread instead of the shrimp flatbread and she was so nice to say that we could keep both! I was glad we also got to try the pistachio flatbread because it was very, very good (might have liked it better than the shrimp one!). I'm looking forward to coming back here! read more

This is one of my favourite restaurants in NYC. I have been known to order it en route home from the airport after a business trip and want to eat something delicious, fresh, healthy and good sized portions. My favourite is the mezze filistini platter, it has generous portions in a very handy packaging so keeps it fresh for a few days. The Fattat Jaj 6 layer chicken with rice dish is unbelievable. The rice is always perfectly cooked with the most delicately spiced flavour and enough chicken to rice ratio with tasty crunchy pita chips for a nice crunch. I'm also a fan of the grilled cauliflower appetiser, has a slightly sweet and buttery flavour...yum!! And treat yourself to the pistachio flatbread. Bit pricey but worth every bite. I want to say a big thank you to the manager Teresa who is so helpful and thoughtful. I had a delivery hiccup with Uber eats and Teresa kindly credited me and when I reordered recently, Teresa sent the food in an Uber for me complimentary and was very communicative with my via text to ensure the food arrived. The portions are VERY generous so be prepared to enjoy leftovers for days. The murals and art that surrounded the restaurant were gorgeous, and the cherry on top was the warm service. I ate so much my cousin got scared (I think). But that just goes to show how much I loved the food here. I've been in love with zaatar since highschool and they did an even better job with it here than anywhere else i've had it. But I also feel a huge part of the experience being great was due to my cousin ordering my favorite foods, This dinner really made my new york trip complete, and I guess I really do be missing my cousin everytime I think of this place. The chicken is great, super tender and not the least bit dry. They bring you a large vat of water so you're never gonna get thirsty, even if the food can be a bit salty at times. Just thinking about this place is causing my waistline to expand. To say their portion sizes are generous is an understatement. You could order their shawarma platter and comfortably feed 2 people. Three if you order 1-2 appetizers as well! I used to come here back when it was Beast & Bottles, and they've kept a lot of the great decor charms. They've added two shawarma spits in the back, and have a giant thing of spinning rotisserie chickens. Sit down, and you're greeted with a giant earthen pot as your water cup. And a big pita with a spread of olives, za'atar, and olive oil. I got the mixed shawarma platter - beef and chicken, and it was SO good. The best part has to be the hummus and the babaganoush. Ok no, the best part was how much meat they give you. I took the rest to go and also ordered the 6 piece falafel appetizer (which comes with tahini sauce). Super crispy. Not going to pretend I know much about Palestinian cuisine. But good food is good, universally :) I love middle eastern food in general and had been eyeing Al Badawi a while. Finally stopped by out of blue with my ex/friend for dinner. Very luckily, we snapped the last two high tops at the bar! On entering, the fragrance of cardamon, cinnamon, pepper and baked flatbread just hugged your face :) I don't think you can go wrong whatever you desire. Just keep in mind, food are made for sharing. I would not recommend coming here yourself unless you can eat like two grown men :P We ordered a few items to share: - Vegetarian friendly, go with the mezze finistini, aka mix of cold appetizer. I am a sucker for eggplant so baba ghanoush is a must and my benchmark for any middle eastern restaurants. Highly recommend - Lamb chop. Ex/friend got this and it came in large form that sufficient to feed two! The lamb was falling off the bone tender and decorated with silver almonds and aromatic spices dotted over paisley. very lovely to go with the shiraz I brought from Brooklyn Wine Exchange We also got the flatbread made fresh, right in front of us, from the brick oven. Must order. All in all, food was great, atmosphere was lovely (live music on a Sat evening!), albeit a tad too busy than I would prefer. This Middle-Eastern restaurant was very interesting. We were seated fairly quickly at 7:30pm on a weekday, and the interior was quite pretty. The water was served in a flower pot, which was cool. We got the falafel, Muhammarah, and the Msakhan. The falafel tasted alright, but too dry for my taste. The Muhammarah was good, very flavorful and different, and complemented the pita well. The Msakhan chicken was delicious, it reminded me of rotisserie chicken. However, the sauted onion sauce underneath was super sour and way too overpowering to eat on its own. It was "Al bad... experience." Food: We ordered a lentil soup which never came and was forgotten... We also ordered lamb ouzi rice dish outside on a chilly day which was over 30 dollars (expensive for an entree) and this dish was served cold. We asked to heat it up. Other dishes were cauliflower and hummus. Everything was brought in at once, although when I used to work as a waitress, I knew to bring the appetizer first, and the entree after appetizer unless the client asked to bring everything together. The food was ok overall, this is why I gave it 2 stars based on the food, although the food looked better visually than tasted because the meat in entree was a bit dry. I don't think I would ever return here just because the food did not grab my tastebuds in any way. No Hot Tea? The restaurant does not have/serve hot teas, nor do they have a hot water, and no lemon to place in a hot water at least to emulate hot tea. That was a big disappointment - on a chilly day. So I did not bother to ask about dessert. Last, the bathroom: I always pay attention to bathrooms in a restaurant and this one needs a lot of TLC. The owner should take off dust from a shelf under the mirror and in general remodel the bathroom. The mirror is too high for a petit woman. I could not see myself in the mirror to see how I looked before I stepped out. A nice touch would be to have paper towels during covid pandemic which is still on because I don't want to touch knobs that everyone touched before I leave the bathroom even after I wash my hands. read more

Al Badawi delivered a 5-star experience but there are some dishes I would skip. We arrived 15 minutes before the kitchen closed on a Wednesday night but we stayed for awhile towards the end of the meal and were not rushed away. Beautiful interior, from the gorgeous colorful mural to the live plant wall and the fake flower arch. Service was great but the food highlights were the pistachio pizza, the mezze filistini (assorted dips) and the maklouba (chicken-based). The pistachio pizza was like nothing I have ever had before. So nutty but perfectly balanced by the cheese (no tomato sauce) on a nice flatbread. Allegedly this place is BYO and I would totally bring a bottle of wine and hunker down with this pistachio pizza and a friend as a happy hour snack. It's just so good. We loved all the veggies in the maklouba and the dips from the mezze were all tasty and generously portioned. Now for the dishes to skip- I found the beef in the ouzi beef dish to be quite dry and the rice has a very strong saffron flavor (so make sure you're into that before you order this). I found the falafels in the falafel platter to also be too crunchy on the outside and dry on the inside. Even so, just pizza, mezze dips, and maklouba were enough for me to want to come back again! And I love that there's a small outdoor dining option as well. Al Badawi is definitely a neighborhood gem! read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon on my way to Brooklyn bridge park with my son. Very nice and calm ambiance, wish I took more photos. I ordered the hummus which was a 10/10 delicious, not too overpowering, one the best hummus I ever had honestly. I had the Ekyhar Ms Laban as well, chucky pieces of cucumber and mint in yogurt, I enjoyed it, refreshing. I got the Zaatar flatbread and I was a little disappointed, I think I may have had some miscommunication with my server, I thought the flatbread would have had cheese on it but it did not, even though I did ask if it had cheese, I was a little disappointed in that. I also got the shrimp kabob, it comes with salad and rice. The rice was pretty good, the dressing on the salad was very Tart but also sweet at the same time, I had a hard time with it, also the shrimp kabob were very salty for me. They didn't have salmon kabobs or the little meat triangle meat patties (sorry don't remember the name) I must also mention there is no alcoholic beverage in this place just soft drinks, I order a coke with ice. I got full from the flatbread and spreads I had, I was dissatisfied with the shrimp kabob and zaatar flatbread that's why I deducted a star. Yunus my Server was a very kind man, he was very sweet to my son and attentive. Overall I will not allow my first experience to determine the food here, I'm sure it's great, I just so happen to be a pescatarian so I don't eat meat which I think is a big factor in my review. Al Badawi was great! My family was visiting from abroad and I wanted to have Palestinian food that was also close to the Brooklyn Bridge. When you walk in you see the beautiful decor and mural that transports you to Palestine. The waiters were so friendly and made great recommendations. We shared the mezze platter and the Mansaf. The mezze platter had the best hummus and babaganoush I've had in my life , I wish I could have it every day. I'm quite literally obsessed with this place. The food, the ambiance, the service...everything here is perfection. Food: They serve up authentic traditional Palestinian cuisine and it's all Halal! I highly recommend starting off with the Mezze filistini which comes with a variety of dips and fresh bread baked in their brick oven. After that, I dive into their main dishes because that's my FAVORITE PART. The maklouba..oh my. I could eat it every single day. It's so good! Despite being a rice dish, it isn't heavy and doesn't make you feel too stuffed. Let me tell you though, the portions here are so generous so be sure to share it with someone or be ready to take some boxes home! I went to Al Badawi on a Wednesday evening for dinner! The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated. Service was very kind and we ended up ordering labneh, muhammara, and chicken kebab! Everything was cooked and seasoned very well and was delicious. The restaurant ended up getting pretty crowded so definitely recommend making a reservation if you can. This Middle Eastern restaurant was absolutely amazing! The lamb flavor permeated evenly in the rice, and the meat itself is very tender too. I was really happy that a friend suggested that we visit a few months back. The food portions were extremely generous and the service was great! They accidentally sent out the wrong flatbread and gave it to us on the house - lucky for us because it was so yummy! ⁠On that visit, we got the following: ⁠ - mezze filistini ($31) - a mix platter of hummus, babaghanoush, muhammarah, tabbouleh, salata tahuna, and labneh - really yummy with the warm pita that they serve first to your table. honestly, this was delicious but got overshadowed by all the food after it. would probably opt to get one or two appetizers in the future rather than this whole platter but great if you have a group that can't decide what they want.⁠ ⁠ - pistachio flatbread ($21) - ground pistachio on a bed of mixed cheese - this dish was the happy surprise that we got. wasn't expecting much with just pistachio and cheese, but the combination was actually really good!⁠ ⁠ - shrimp flatbread ($21) - baby shrimp over a bed of cheese - this flatbread tastes like shrimp scampi in flatbread form. delicious flavors but the shrimp was a little tougher than i would have liked.⁠ ⁠ - fattat jaj ($32) - 6 layer dish of roasted chicken, rice, chickpeas, mint yogurt, crispy pita, garlic sauce, and slivered almonds - ok, everything about this dish was just *chef's kiss*. the flavors worked so well together, and i really appreciated that the chicken was both juicy and flavorful. would definitely get this one again.⁠ Since that first visit, we visited a second time, getting the same fattat jaj (because we liked it that much) as well as their hummus ($7) which was so creamy and perfect with the hot pita. I've been here 3 times (once when they were new and 2 more times after) and this place is seriously one of the best tasting, best value restaurants I have been to in NY. The food portions are huge, food quality/taste is consistent, service is friendly, the fresh baked bread is so so good (my favorite dish here is the Mezze Filistini. Even if you come by yourself, you should definitely order this), and it's a BYOB establishment. Literally what more could you ask for? I was able to walk in the first 2 times without a reservation but because of it's increasing popularity, I had to wait over a hour the last time I came. I would definitely make a reservation before walking-in because the bar area was also packed with people. 10/10 go before it's hard to get reservations! read more

This was our first time to Al Badawi, we made a booking which was seamless. One of the nicest thing I experienced was being seated even thu half our party had not shown up. We were fasting as it is the month of Ramazan. They gave us cold water and very nice dates to open our fast We had ordered the mixed mezze which was one the best I have had in New York to date. The main courses were large services hot fresh and very well seasoned. The lamb was succulent and juicy falling off the bone. The rice was so good you could just eat that. They literally have no beverages on their menu just water and soda which was a little disappointing as I really wanted some fruity juice, also while the staff is around they seemed a little lost...our table had no crockery or cutlery till AFTER the food had arrived. Those 2 are the only small negatives not enough to deter me from going again. The ambiance is lovely you feel you are sitting in some lovely Mediterranean deserty location with lovely murals and fake plants. Definitely a place to visit again and again.
