Lengua en Salsa Roja with Rice and Beans Combo Plate
    Dexter D.

Family dinner with mom and mom didn't want to go out. Brother Gilbert and his wife, Annie, suggested Al Fin which features Latin Cuisine, primarily Nicaraguan, which we have never had before. Gilbert was familiar with it so we asked him to take charge. And take charge he did! We had so much food. Wherever he could, he ordered Combination Plates which added Plantain, Fried Cheese, Gallo Pinto (Seasoned Rice and Beans with some veg) and Cabbage Salad for $3 over the price of the Ala Carte menu. We had Chile Relleno, Steak Quesadilla, Nacatamal, Carne Asada, Lengua en Salsa Roja, Churrasco, Chancho con Yuca Frita, and Pupusas - Queso, Queso con Suquini, Queso con Pollo. We may have had other items as well. I tried to get photos of everything but the table that seats 10 was covered with clamshells and other containers and I know I missed some. We liked most of the items but some flavors were definitely better than others. I've always been a fan of good Chile Relleno and what I had was pretty good. The sauce also made the rice delicious. The Lengua was also quite tasty and added to the rice as well. We would definitely be game to order some of the items we liked and also try some other flavors.

Dragon fruit drink to start! It's great

This Restaurant has been here forever... at least a long time. . A popular place for great food, Nicaraguan specialties, friendly, "family-favorite" recipes & food. Large menu with drinks / beer / wine. Loved my meal with wild Pink Dragonfruit drink and shredded tender beef w mint and gravy. Fresh veggies and large green salad were a good compliment. (I asked for veggies rather than rice) Shrimp, sauce, rice and salad were enjoyed So many other meals to choose from, lots of recommendations if you wish to ask. Lots of diners come here to enjoy the tripe soup and other soups. Our server recommended this. Our meals were very good, didn't try desserts, that's for next time, we'll be back. On the corner, Mission St.; parking on street and in the lot behind Walgreens.

The Chancho Frito is one best dishes. Also enjoy their Nacatamales to go. Also enjoy their Gallina Rellano.

Clean restaurant with table service and natural light.

Great local Nicaraguan restaurant... suggest ordering appetizers and entree. Lots of different dishes, wine and beer too. Loved shrimp with Vodka sauce- not tomato- good cheesy sauce, with rice and green salad. Big restaurant- tall ceilings, well lit. Friendly servers, family vibe.

This place is just okay. The baho is a 6 out of 10. The rice and beans plate 8 out of ten overall scores. The prices are decent all that was under $21. (See picture for reference.)

Are there any vegetarian options? Specifically, do the beans or tortillas contain lard, and is a chicken or other meat stock used to make the rice/ gallo pinto? Thank you for any info you can offer.

The waitresses were friendly, and were always smiling. I enjoyed the live DJ, I was grooving while waiting for my foods. You can request how you want your steak to be done. Cons: there's only one restroom. The juices especially the passion fruit juice was way too sweet for my liking. staff are limited in the English language. This is the Mission District you can't expect fine dining, just point to what you wanna order if you don't speak Spanish. I highly recommend that restaurant.

My friend ordered the "carne asada" plate that comes with rice and beans (or gallo pinto- rice and red beans mixed together) choice of sweet plantains or green plantains and fried Nicaraguan cheese. BUT, she was told there was no fried cheese. NO FRIED CHEESE? WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO FRIED CHEESE? A Nicaraguan restaurant with no fried cheese is like an Italian restaurant with no pasta. Or an Asian Restaurant with no rice. I thought...you're in the Mission where there is a plethora of Latin stores that sell it. Management: no excuses...send someone to go to one of these stores and get yourself a huge block of frying cheese if your restaurant ran out of inventory. She ordered green plantains and she got sweet plantains. The gallo pinto she said was salty. On to my order...I ordered the "nacatamale" which is the Nicaraguan tamale. I admit it was good. The masa on this dish determines if this dish is good and the masa on this one was good. Descent size and fixings inside. The waitress was cordial. However, I paid with a card and I wanted to add her tip on there and she said I could not. I don't carry cash and neither does my bestie so, thank goodness she had a few dollars and we explained to her that's all we had. Management please enable your customers to add the tip to the card. All in all, I don't think I'd hurry and come back. The thing is I know how to cook and I am quite particular about what is considered good food. This was just ok. At least I had a break from the kitchen. But that's about it.

My husband is Nicaraguan and we have gone back and visited many times, I am in love with the food and so sad we never had any local options nearby...Antojitos to the rescue! My husband cannot get enough of the Carne asada plate with Gallo Pinto (black beans and rice) and I could eat Queso Frito (fried cheese) all day long! My husband had recently been trying to describe a garnishment he used to have, that he misses and we found it here. He was so excited to finally show me what he had been talking about, Chilero (pickled onions and carrots), it was delicious on both the carne asada and the queso frito! Also took home a nacatamale (a nicaraguan tamale) for dinner and as we were leaving, I saw that they also have quesillo (a creamy white cheese wrapped in a warm tortilla and smothered in crema) - I am going to need to come back soon and get this as well! I was so obsessed with my plate that I forgot to take a picture, but I did get a picture of my Nacatamale I brought home...you can see the sauce and the banana leaves just wrapped around this treasure and perfectly packaged, so I can drop it in boiling water to heat it up.

Amazing service! Always friendly and the food is so authentic and yummy! Highly recommendread more
