My husband and I had the best Nicaraguan food today. My husband had Menudo and I had Chancho Asado, maduros, queso frito, gallo pinto and cabbage salad. The food was absolutely delicious! Believe me, I am never happy with the food I have eaten at other nicaraguan restaurants; why you ask? It's because the women and men in my family have perfected their authentic Nicaraguan cuisine. Al Fin is the best home style nicaraguan food I have ever tasted outside of my home. The Cacao was exactly like my mom used to make. This place is a hidden gem!! They're authentic (I'd know I'm Nicaraguan), extremely clean, and friendly. I ordered the pupusas and they were not oily and made just right. My mom ordered a traditional dish and she was extremely pleased. We also bought pastries and had some traditional juices/aguas. Love this place. It's my go-to Nica spot in the Bay. I've tried pretty much everything on the menu over the last 7 to 8 years. I'm pretty basic though and always get the gallo pinto plate, sometimes with the carne asada. The pupusas are always fire. Only thing on the menu that let me down was the Sal Picon because it didn't have any lime on it and it was served hot. It's better served chilled(basically refrigerated for an hour after cooking it). Chef is awesome and the mom is super courteous. Give this place a try. read more

I came here out of random because I was hungry and needed puntos culturales for my AP Spanish class in high school. Mission may be the longest street located in SF and Daly City, but the parking sucks. Al Fin has a lot of food consisting of different meats, so this isn't really the place for vegetarians. I ordered Chile Relleno - stuffed bell pepper with cheese, and served with rice, beans, and salad. The stuffed bell pepper was sooooo cheesy and overall, decent but not exceptional. The rice was very simple. It tastes better if you mixed some of the relleno's cheese with it. The salad had some sweet dressing I really liked. The girl who took my order looked like she was in elementary, possibly middle, school. Maybe her parents are having her work there or something, but I think it would have been a little more professional if an adult actually took more order. Overall, the service was very quick. Prices range anywhere from $2 for a pupusa or $10 for carne asada. I'll let you decide on how reasonable it is or isn't. read more

We went to the Al Fin restaurant at around 2:30 in the afternoon after a nice hike on San Bruno Mountain. We were really hungry, and left extremely satisfied. If you like Nicaraguan or Salvadori and food, this is a great place to go. It was spacious inside, clean as a could be, simple sexor, friendly attentive staff. The food arrived quickly and piping hot! I asked for a plate of vegetarian items, which they happily put together for me. My husband got the Mondongo soup, some Pupusas, and some green platanos. The food was savory, and they prepared our items that we asked for to go just right before the end of the meal so that we could take them with us. We felt like we got a lot of bang for our buck also! I couldn't speak to the experience on a busy evening or anything, but for a mid afternoon experience, it was wonderful read more

Wow! This place certainly has changed over the course of a decade. The last time I was here was in 2009 with my boy (R.I.P.) who knew the owner/chef. We ordered two super pollo burritos w/o rice, and it was one of the best burritos I've had. I have been looking on this place with fond nostalgia since my friend pasted...unfortunately, things change Maybe my memory is foggy or maybe my palette had changed in ten years or maybe this place has gone through a few chefs over the years . My impression of the cheese pupusas: "eh, where's the cheese??" Our first time going here and most likely our last time going here too. They didn't put enough cheese in the cheese pupusas. I tasted the dough more than the cheese, which was disappointing. When we do take out at other places, we can usually see the cheese melted through the dough. This place: no cheese drip! Food is amazing, very clean restaurant but the service is absolutely ridiculous. I've tried to give this place multiple tries since it is very close to my house but every time it gets worse. First time sat at the table for at least 20 minutes without even being greeted. Food took about 45 minutes to come out. Second time I tested two pupusas it took me 45 minutes to pick it up and they weren't done. The older woman server had an attitude when I asked her how much longer it really does look like she can't handle the volume of people that come into the restaurant management might want to consider hiring someone who can handle doing their job. read more

Not a restaurant you'd notice on first glance, but one that's absolutely worth the stop. Parking is usually difficult in this area, and it's metered, but it still makes it worth it. Seat yourself and your server will follow with a menu, and will bring you waters automatically. I've been here 3 times and each time I tried a different dish- each plate I've gotten has been so darn delicious. The wait can be a little extra long sometimes, and that can be a little worrisome especially when the meter makes you frequently checking the time, but the taste of the food here is so irresistible. I went to eat at this place with my family on 5/6/2021, and I ask for a glass of water and the waitress told me she could give me a bottle of water because they were not giving free water anymore because of covid-19 restrictions, so I ask her where could I find that information and she didn't not, so I asked to speak with the owner and he came to my table with a bad attitude. I asked him why they could not give water when they are selling natural juice served in a glass, the reason he gave me didn't make any sense. He said it was because they are avoiding get in contact with people as much a they can, that is so ridiculous, (they could give me water in a disposable cup, the ones they use for take out order).Why they opened that restaurant then? I didn't want to take all this scenario this further, but the owner bad attitude got me so mad. I could bought the bottle of water, but I didn't because I noticed that the only thing they want to do is sell and not interested at all to give a good customer service. I have visited other restaurants and som0e of them don't even ask you if you want water, they just bring it to the table and serve you while you're waiting for the food. To be a customer here, you have to believe in magic. I phoned in a take-out order of pupusas last week. Their website menu states that cheese pupusas are $2.25 each. My bill reflected $3 each. The price MAGICALLY increased. I asked to see a menu just to make sure we were on the same page. The server said they didn't have menus. (A restaurant without menus?) The manager/possibly the owner ear-hustled my predicament and advised me to go to HIS online menu (which I showed him on my phone). Oddly enough: $2.25 each. He firmly stated that the pupusas have been $3 for a couple of months and that he had to call his people to update his website. He then MAGICALLY grabbed a menu from behind the counter, only to point and read aloud the printed statement on the menu cover, "Prices are subject to change without notice." No apology was offered for this two or three month-old mishap that had nothing to do with me. No adjustment was offered to my bill of $54 - just a "take it or leave it attitude". I could have cancelled the order but I didn't want to keep driving around in the storm. Here we are a week later and the price is still the same. At this point, any restaurant could offer delicious food. It's the attitude that steers me elsewhere. So if you're ready for a game of hocus pocus with the prices, this is the place. read more

Only about 8 tables. But It feels like home. I ordered a pupusa with Gallo pinto and maduró. Oh! And queso frito! Everything was on point. My husband and I went venturing for Nicaraguan food and found this gem right down the road from where we were staying. Location was easy to find and the parking was simple but we came during lunch. I will say I loved the gallopinto and I'll be the first to say I hate beans. Weird I know. But it was so delicious and fried perfectly. I will say that there could have been a bit more. It seems that the meat was marinated for days. One of the best that I've ever tasted. It is full of flavor. 2.The crunch of the chicharones mixed in the pork meat makes it extra special. 3. It is really affordable. They sell for $2.00 a piece. CONS: 1. The masa is quite thick and a bit oily. I've had better masa. 2. Their salsa is bland, although it tastes fresh it lacks the flavor. 3. Chips aren't for free...which I thought was weird. My Verdict: The taste of the meat makes up for some slack with the masa, the salsa and the no chips. If you order food for pickup from here - you should be fine. Just don't plan to eat here if there is more than 2 of you. The food was typical Nica and El Salvadoran comida. The food here is great and I along with my family have all frequented this restaurant ever since it opened since it is close to home. I am Salvadorian and my wife is Nicaraguense so we both get what we want. I think the problem here is that the the chef is the owner and the waitress is his Mother. The chef always looks mad and stressed out and the mom allthough a nice lady sometimes says things in a soft tone that you should not say to a customer. If you ask for extra anything it should be given to the customer with out attitude as the customer is the one who pays the bill at the end. You can tack it on to the bill in a nice way with out seeming rude to people. Being in the service industry is tough and no matter what, service should always be given with a smile! The mondongo could use a bit more tripe and feet but other tgen that the I have no complains about the food. Come here for great food. read more
