Fish and shrimp are excellent but the al Pastor is amazing. I would give the first to a five star regardless, but if you do and then you taste the al pastor, you need to give it six stars. somewhat surprisingly, the staff was fairly competent in these days of employees not giving a damn. It was prepared quite quickly but in nice to go containers that traveled well. beans and rice were good also. My wife is somewhat picky about these kinds of things but she was blown away. read more

Yelp 100 Challenge 87 On a Sunday many places are closed on the island so we came upon this food truck seeking a fish lunch. The fish of the day was ahi, so we chose ahi burritos. The gal behind the counter was very friendly when we placed our orders. The burritos arrived hot, wrapped in a flour tortilla and filled generously with ahi, rice and beans while a small amount of guacamole and chipotle creama sauce was on the side. Taste wise, they were okay. I've been spoiled coming from California where we have lots of Mexican restaurants. We sat outside on one of the several covered picnic tables. The numberof wild chickens in the food court were a little out of control. They're bold, too, hopping on the tables. Don't drop your food if you eat there, they may accidentally peck your foot. read more

Will probably check this out next time i visit Kauai.. but I do have to say a real Al Pastor is prepared and cooked like Greek GYRO... its layered meat cooked vertically and already seasoned and the taste is 2nd to none.. and when its cooked like the GYROs the meat is more of a Orange color.. this meat is more cooked on the grill... I'm sure its taste awsome but Pork is great tasting anyways... If you go to Mexico and get a Al Pastor taco... they cut the meat off the vertically cooking pork and meat falls on the corn tortillas, anyways.. just saying hows its cook in Mexico and how its cooked in the US... Even here in Los Angeles most of the Mexican resturants make Al Pastor on the grill and seasoned with the Al Pastor spices... Very very few places will cook their Al Pastor like the GYROs.. read more

This place was fantastic. They had just caught fresh ahi tuna that morning so that's what was in the fish tacos. For 11.50 that includes guacamole, rice, beans and chipotle crema, it was a great lunch deal on the island (expect to pay $10-15 anywhere on the island for lunch). The rice was cooked super well, the beans were super tasty and as someone who doesn't like refried beans, these were bombbbbb. The ahi tuna was cooked to a perfect medium rare and they were BIG slices of tuna which I liked. My mom got the lengua tacos which she said was really good. She usually doesn't like Mexican food so this is a big compliment coming from her. Service was also spectacular and the lady brought our food to us and was so friendly. Oh, so good. Likely one of the best meals we had on our trip through the islands, this is the only establishment we returned to. Prices are not cheap, they skimp a bit on extras when requested, and expect a long line. However, the employees were polite and portions for tacos and plates generous (not street-taco style). Some modifications, such as the al pastor having non traditional toppings, but the meat is off a spit and salsa an adequate, light heat. There are many taco trucks nearby, most of which have customers but none in as long of a line. Worth a visit! A taco plate should fill you up when empty. Here the food trucks are everyday and we found a "pool" of food trucks when biking along the beach. Stopped by and interested in the fresh fish tacos. 4.5 per taco, we ordered one fish taco (today's fish is mahi) and garlic shrimp taco. First and foremost, the seafood portion is super nice. The mahi was big chuck of steak and cooked well in medium rare. However, the flavor is a bit on the lighter side. The shrimp taco had 4-5 medium to large size shrimp, very fresh with its "crisp" texture. The sauce/flavor with the shrimps is very tasty, better than the fish. Moreover, the double tortillas were very fresh that you can taste the freshness of it. For a food truck, this is great food. There's a little company of food trucks off the highway heading north from Lihue to Kealia. The place was recommended to us by a local who sells coconuts by the Wailua falls. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Lots of local chickens will hang out with you, which is awesome. My wife had the fish tacos which she said were decent but not amazing. Okay - so we know food trucks are hit and miss but this is a hit. My husband ordered pastor taco, a fresh ahi taco and shrimp taco. My husband says that the pastor was the best, the ahi was fresh and the shrimp was eh. I ordered the chicken and the carne asada tacos, both were yummy but my preference was the chicken taco. We also ordered chips and salsa for $5, i'd skip the chips and salsa next time, wasn't worth it but the salsa was quite tasty but given how fast your food comes out you really don't have a chance to eat them. The woman taking our order was quite friendly and helpful, their tables were clean and they had good covering from the sun.
