Really not seeing why this company gets bad reviews! People were so friendly, our car was great, and service was seamless. We ended with a rock chip in the windshield. I called them about it, and their response was, "Please just enjoy the rest of your trip and don't worry about it now." They were awesome from start to finish! When we returned it, they took our insurance # and that was it. He said they may be able to fill it in house for free. I will be using the Bozeman Alamo again!! read more

The bad reviews should apply to all the rental car companies at Bozeman airport. I highly recommend booking the car from Alamo's website. When you get there just book the car and then bring it up to the people upstairs who will give you the car. That reduced my time significantly. The car I rented was great. read more

Alamo Rental Car is HORRIBLE!!! Do not rent from Alamo unless you enjoy being, rudely spoken to, stranded, abandoned during your vacation, having to pay huge fees to change flights and long taxi rides. My family rented a car from Alamo Bozeman Airport Saturday returning to Bozeman Tuesday morning for a 12:55 pm flight. We drove to Yellowstone National Forest and stayed in Canyon Village Lodge. Monday morning our key fob somehow went missing and at 12:30pm I called Alamo roadside assistance when after diligently searching we couldn't find it. The woman asked if I was staying near Yellowstone and I said actually right in the middle of it. So she sent a tow truck with a replacement vehicle which arrived at 3:30pm to the Grand Canyon National Park, 751 miles away from where we were staying. Alamo roadside assistance sent a second replacement vehicle and that driver called to let me know he was on his way to Grand Canyon National park again 751 miles away. He said his paperwork said Yellowstone but his manager told him it was wrong and he was to bring it again 751 miles away to the Grand Canyon National Park. This was 7:22 pm at which time I called roadside assistance again to try for a third time to get a replacement vehicle. At 10:50 pm they told me they do not bring replacement vehicles into a park. They had delivered one into the wrong Grand Canyon 7 hours earlier which I pointed out. The agent was being directed by her call center manager obviously at this point. She said were switching this to a recovery tow to get their vehicle and not sending a replacement. This was Monday night, August 4th. I was on my own to get out of the park and back to the airport and she hung up the phone on me! There are no taxis in Yellowstone so I ordered one from the only nearby town that services Yellowstone. They couldn't get a taxi to us to get us to the airport until 3pm, Tuesday, August 5th. Our flight was two hours earlier than that. For a charge of $1,200 to change three flights and $600 for a taxi ride we were able to get on with our trip. Their multiple screw ups cost us $1,800 and one full day of our vacation. Three days later, Friday, August 8th, I received a call from a Yellowstone park ranger saying they still had not picked up their vehicle and it would be removed within 24 hours. Jordan the Bozeman Alamo manager called shortly after this same day. I gave him the ranger contact to coordinate retrieving the vehicle. Jordan reviewed the notes where I had spoken to about a dozen Alamo agents all day Monday August 4th to no avail, wasting an entire day of what should been an amazing vacation. To my astonishment, Jordan's response was he would not charge us for the any of the tows or the key fob. He has done nothing to make this right! Horrible customer service, horrible roadside service, horrible manager, and a horrible car rental company. Do not rent from them unless you enjoy being, rudely spoken to, stranded, and abandoned! read more

It's takes over 10 min a person in line, many people in the back of the counter, appearing to do nothing. Yet the lines grows. Been here waiting almost an hour and only 5 people have exited the line. Just watched another employee go on break, skipping out looking happy to avoid the work. Based on all the one star reviews I'm concerned I'll get a bill for bogus damage, but I had a good experience with them on my recent trip. I booked through Priceline, so I didn't check yelp before booking. There was a line at the counter, seemed like everyone was using Alamo. We waited about 15 minutes. I rented a full-size truck, got a Toyota Tacoma, which is a medium sized truck, but it was fine. There were only two of us. There was a little mud on the bottom of he doors, but the truck was new and otherwise clean. The tank was almost full, but i returned it full. We returned the truck at 4:30 a.m. so had to drop the keys in a box. Hopefully they don't find some bogus damage, which based on the previous yelp reviews seems to be their MO. Anyway, I had a good experience. The counter agents were friendly and moving along as fast as they could. read more

Had a rock hit my windshield after I picked up the car at the airport and I contacted my insurance. When I dropped off the car, I reported the damage to Alamo and gave them the claim number from insurance and the person to call. After 2 months, Alamo started sending me bills for $900. I contacted my insurance, and they had tried to contact Alamo right after the wreck. I then called Alamo, and they gave me the person to call, and it went to voice-mail. I have left 2 messages, the Alamo claim number, and they will not return my calls. I will not ever do business with Alamo again and am also letting as many people that I can to beware!! read more

The Alamo desk is conveniently located in the Bozeman terminal. But that was about the only positive. We were traveling with 7 people, so I booked our mini van months in advance at a (still pretty pricey) rate of $690/week. However, upon learning we were going up to Big Sky, the gal at the desk immediately tried to upsell us to a 4-wheel drive SUV. The SUVs were currently the same price as mini vans, but she refused to give it to us as an even trade; she said it would be $1,700 total for the SUV/week - $1,100 more! So, needless to say, we stuck with our minivan, and the supervisor said that since it was front-wheel drive, it should be fine on the roads. The minivan itself would have been fine (in fact, we saw lots of minivans on the roads that were doing well), but the tires on the minivan were terrible, with almost no tread. Definitely not snow/winter tires (which would have been nice). Not even all-season tires, which I would expect on all vehicles rented in Bozeman in the middle of winter, when there's snow everywhere. We ended up barely driving it, and instead cramming all 7 of us into my brother's truck. Very disappointed in Alamo. read more

When we picked up the car on July 11 we drove it about 20 miles to oil change light was on. The car was dirty the windshield wipers did not work very well at all should've been changed. Really terrible. I suppose all car rental companies are profit-driven more so than customer service-driven, but I strongly recommend avoiding Alamo at Bozeman. I have never, during all my travels in America, came across such awful customer service. The guy at the desk was rude, unhelpful, and deliberately spoke too fast for us to understand any of the terms and conditions he attached. Because we picked up the car just over an hour before our booked time and were charged a whole two hours of extra rental time at $40 per hour. I couldn't believe it and it was not explained to us at any point until we received a receipt after payment. On top of this, when questioned about the charges, he just brushed them off onto the third party website through which we booked the car. If customer service means anything to you at all, truly avoid Alamo at Bozeman. I don't know if they're better at other locations, but my experience here will make me think twice before using this company again. read more

LIARS ! CHEATS ! SCAMMERS !!!!!! We had pre paid booked a full-sizee sedan or similar. When we landed around mid night they told they dont have a sedan for me the only available option is a truck or a mini Van. Living in NY I dont have much experience driving huge cars and I told them I am uncomfortable with the options. They said thats the only thing they have. And they would give me a refund if I find another and told my best bet is Hertz (which were giving sedans for $181 per day. I had booked this weeks ago for $50 a day!! ) Another thing the agent told me is that I could come next day and see if there are any returns. As it was already late and we had hotel booking close the airport that night I took that option and called them the next morning. They agent someone called Victor said they dont have any cars and "I BETTER STICK WITH THE MINI VAN" . They were horribly rude when I told that I need a replacement. I later called in the customer support and they said they have cars available. I told them what had happened. The lady on the customer support gave me a reference number and said that the fact she can pull up a reference number that means there are cars and if they dont give one call for the manager. we also contacted the district manager over phone. We took a trip again to the airport, where the agent said sorry we have no cars. Then I pulled up the reference number and told we have informed about this case to the district manager. He quickly pulled up a Nissan Altima for us. Then I asked if they have a mini SUV and he said, " yes you can upgrade to a Toyota RAV4 for $20 extra per day". Are you F***** kidding me !!!!! you mentally harass a customer who has pre paid for a car!!!!!!!! . They made me take 2 trips to the airport just to get a car for which I had already prepaid. Plus when we got the car it showed that air is low. We inquired with the agent, she said that its all checked and the indicators are fishy!!!!! All through our trip we had to keep filling air as there were issues with the tires. This was a total harassment by the local employees at the BZN airport. Do NOT rent from this location... seriously go to hertze or enterprise (although enterprise now owns alamo and although inside the airport the booths are still separate conglomerate's thats going to be changing soon so go to anyone that isnt Alamo, enterprise or national) We are in a massive battle with them right now. I have escalated our customer service claim to the highest level and all for what? Poor customer service... a helping hand goes a long way alamo it takes two seconds to make sure your management team is responding to phone calls and emails... We prepaid for a FULL tank of gas and noticed it was only 3/4 full and in a truck thats like $20 over so aside from that never being corrected (because they dont answer their phones) they also endangered our lives when they sent us away in a bogus car that had a hole in the tire (even though we came in and told them the tire pressure light was on they still assured us it was fine, well when we got home we checked and all tired 15psi low and eventually a flat that was found to have a hole in the tire) and despite my 100+phone calls per day and emails, the manager still has not once replied back. I told the national customer service people about our issues and they assured me (three times by different people) that when we return the rental car the manager will be there to give us a discount for all we have gone through... yeah right... another passive move by alamo and the jerks who could care less about their jobs. Did I mention we could have died??? Yeah thats how much alamo DOESN'T care about your safty... send you away in a pos truck and when you try to let them know so they can check it out before you leave they just dismiss you. We were supposed to return the car after hours as thats when we reached town and we were set to move across country that morning, well we postponed our move so we could meet with the manager in person and when we arrived we were met with the same two boneheads behind the counter who apparently: 1. Cant get their manager on the phone. 2. Cant get their manager to call us back. 3. Cant discount the price without said manager 4. Really are just flimsy pawns in the alamo game of 'screw over each customer no matter what it takes'. I am filing a complaint with the Attorney Generals office and their lucky we don't take legal matters for putting our lives as risk. Wow, think again if customer service is important to you. I run the largest luxury vacation rental company in Big Sky, Montana (25,000 guests to the area each year) and I called Alamo to sort out an issue one of our non-english speaking guests had when they had an accident in the vehicle they rented from Alamo. The representative who answered the phone forwarded by call to Matt the manager of the Bozeman location. Matt was incredibly impatient, rude and unhelpful. Treated me with zero respect and basically told me this was not his problem, talk to the police and sort it out with insurance. I tried to explain that the insurance was purchased through Alamo, but Matt didn't have the time of day to assist. Better hope you don't have any problems if you choose to rent from this company. read more

Got a car and when I inspected it there were scratches and a dent (still temp plates on it). I was told if there was a problem to park out front. When I did that a cop scolded me pointing at the sign that said I could park there. I had to drive around a few times to figure out parking. I rented a car at the Bozeman airport from 2/18-2/24/15. While the vehicle was fine, my customer experience was dreadful. The desk agent misdirected me to the vehicle, requiring me to walk 100 yards back to the airport with my luggage. Returning the vehicle was worse. I suffered a broken shoulder during my trip and needed some help with my skis and bags. After parking the car, I went to the Alamo desk and asked for assistance. The agent told me he couldn't help and that I would need to walk 150 yards back to my vehicle, drive to the check-in area, deposit my bags and then drive back to the parking lot. I told him this would be hard since I was traveling with my 7-year-old daughter and couldn't leave her alone with the bags. He still refused to help in any way, forcing me to leave my daughter alone in the airport while I returned the car and struggled with the bags and skis by myself. I found this customer service atrocious, uncaring and heartless. I will never rent from Alamo again. read more

Overall, the experience was fine, but Sarah was amazing. They had a shortage of cars because of a recent hailstorm, so we got stuck with a minivan. She told us to call the next day to see if we could change it out. When we did, she not only helped us find a new car, but actually helped us carry out bags from the old car to the new one so we could get on the road more quickly. Avoid renting from Alamo. Terrible service and grumpy, dishonest, unqualified attendants. We rented an SUV for the weekend to attend a wedding and had a bad experience interacting with the representatives from this location. We are giving Alamo one star for two important reasons: - They pushed on us an SUV that had a huge crack in the windshield. Before seeing the vehicle, as we were filling out the paperwork, the attendant mentioned that there was a small crack in the windshield that would be of no consequence and that, lucky us, he would then waive the windshield insurance and towing fees in case it cracked. The vehicle's windshield had instead a massive transversal crack from top to bottom, which makes the vehicle unsafe and un-driveable. We requested a change of vehicle and the attendant pushed back at first... We found that practice dishonest. - We had rented the car for two days and a few extra hours that were charged additionally ahead of time, as per our initial contract. We returned the car within an hour after that, which was OKed by Alamo as we called them ahead of time to inquire. They even told us there is an hour grace period anyway. As we were returning the car, the manager told us that she would need to surcharge us for an additional day, considering we were returning the car past two days. We showed her our contract, which clearly stated that we had rented the car for two days and a few more hours. She told us we were wrong and instructed the attendant who was checking us out to charge us. The attendant confirmed our contract was indeed correct. She became aggressive and quite fresh to us, showing clear signs of being upset, throwing a map i had returned to her in the trash annoyingly. Overall, we found their attendants at this location to be either unqualified and needing constant hep from their managers or downright disagreeable and dishonest. read more

Rented a car for our wedding in Gallatin Gateway. Had to make it to courthouse by 5 so we rented car w car seat installed and immediately went to courthouse and then drove an hour to the ranch in Gallatin Gateway with our 11 month old daughter. Once we arrived at the ranch we noticed the car seat strap was broken and the car seat expired (picked up rental car on 7/18/18, car seat expired in June and was broken). We returned rental car and let them know we had to drive back with a broken car seat, jeopardizing the safety of our child, they said they'd speak to their manager but the most that could be done is a car seat rental refund. I am pretty sure this calls for more than just a car seat rental credit as if we got in an accident my daughter would have been badly injured and we will be taking legal action. BEWARE! Make sure you have your Alamo rented vehicle checked for damage when you turn in the keys. Alamo at the Bozeman airport charged us over $300 for a rock chip that we did not cause, and there is no way for us to prove that we were not responsible. It's impossible to know when that minor damage occurred, as we were notified of the claim months after we rented the car, and the chip was supposedly spotted and logged two days after we returned the car. Protect yourself. Do not walk away from the vehicle until it passes inspection under your supervision. read more

Count on Alamo to leave you stranded, broken down and helpless. On our short honeymoon, we rented an Alamo car from Bozeman, Montana Alamo to tour Yellowstone Park. On our way back to Bozeman, we were driving up a highway incline in the middle of nowhere, when the car slowly came to a stop. We were able to pull off the road just in the nick of time. I quickly reached for my phone because the Alamo brochure boasts about its new 24 hour emergency roadside assistance. Of course, because of our remote location there was no cell service. After trouble shooting, we decide to start walking to try to get within cell range. After a walking a mile and finding one particular spot, we could just manage to get the phone to dial Alamo in Bozeman. After explaining to the customer service agent our situation, our location, and the danger of our situation, I quickly explained how I might lose my cell signal at any moment and that they needed to get a tow truck on its way. Instead of having concern for us and the situation we were in, the agent began to question if we had run out of gas or if we had used diesel and so on, implying that we got ourselves into this situation and never once saying they will help and get a tow truck on the way. After repeatedly stressing I could lose my cell connection at any moment, the agent put me on hold for 5 minutes and then again for 10 minutes, which is when I lost my connection. After again finding a cell hot spot, I tried calling the Alamo number for the next 20 minutes, only to get a busy signal. Since the lackadaisical Alamo agent was unconcerned about our situation and safety, our only hope was for a good Samaritan to pick us up before night set in. Luckily for us, a good Samaritan reluctantly stopped and agreed to give us a lift the 2.5 hours back into Bozeman. I called the agent once we were in cell range, to find out he had never sent a tow truck or anyone else to help us for that matter and he never once apologized for the situation, but instead said that once we dropped the keys off at the office they would send a tow truck to pick up the vehicle. And then to add insult to injury, he proceeded to threaten us with the $600 towing charge if it was found that it was our fault that the car stopped working. Unbelievable! Alamo customer service saying should be, "We have no concern for customer safety and the customer will always be assumed to be at fault, even if they end up stranded on the side of a remote highway." This took up a day and half of our honeymoon. The next day we spoke with the manager who was useless and uncaring, the equivalent of the company robot. After calling everyday for over a week, leaving messages for the manager and waiting to hear when we would be, at the very least, refunded our rental fee, we finally heard from Alamo that it was a mechanical issue (no fault of ours) and we would be refunded. There was never an apology or gesture by the company for the poor customer service that put us in an unsafe and dangerous situation. Shameful! read more

We were really upset with the costumer service here. We were upset to find the car seat we rented for my 1 year old daughter (which the counter agent made us pay extra $60 even though it was on our reservation) to be INOPERABLE AND MISSING PARTS TO WORK. We had to buy a working carseat at the Walmart on our way to Big Sky, because we didn't feel comfortable rigging the one Alamo gave us. When we returned the car, we told them our situation and asked for a refund on the unusable car seat, but they told us no. They said it should have been done the first day even though we were staying one hour away in Big Sky. read more

My wife reserved our rental so I hadn't read the reviews about this place before I picked up the car but stumbled onto them before returning it trying to find out some info on the return process. So I was well aware of the scams they are running there. I was well prepared, I took photos of the entire car with my phone before having to make the half mile hike back to the terminal to return the keys. I completely expected and was ready for what happened next. A not so nice man named Bob called to inform me of a claim on our car from a rock chip. I let him finish his speech and then informed him that not only was there no rock chip when we returned it I had PROOF that there was no rock chip or any other damage. I explained to the not so nice man that I was aware of there scam prior to returning it thanks to so many other dissatisfied customers filing complaints and writing bad reviews and I had a meticulous file of photos that would prove him wrong. Two weeks later despite the fact that there was no damage to the vehicle I get a letter in the mail stating there was, a bill for it, and a plea to call him so we can "work it out". I plan on "working it out" and I have already forwarded my pics to Amex in case they try to charge our card any additional funds so they can be prosecuted for fraud. I am taking time from by busy day "working it out" by writing this review so others hopefully will avoid this place at least until new management is in place to get rid of this corrupt group of individuals at this location otherwise one would have to assume that all of Alamo rental operates under this corrupt culture. read more

Didn't go over charges at all with us. Obviously being under 25 usually means a young driver fee, but told us nothing about the cost, even before swiping credit card, so we assumed it was the before quoted price. Also, because I was traveling with my brother, he asked for both of our licenses and charged us both the young driver fee despite he being the only one that would be driving. When I rent from other car rental companies, they usually go over all charges with me so I know exactly what I am paying beforehand so there are no extra surprise costs. We'll see if there are any extra charges after returning car. read more

BEWARE. Rented from Bozeman Airport location for 9/2/18 trip to Glacier NP. While on the trip, had occasion to read some reviews, and noticed several complaints about Alamo claiming non-existent damage to vehicle upon return. Out of caution, I took photos of the vehicle the morning of the return. Their procedure is to simply park the car in a lot and walk in to return keys, which I did. No attendant. Later, sure enough I received contact from PureCo (recovery specialists) notifying that Alamo was claiming damage to rear bumper of the vehicle. I sent PureCo an email asserting that Alamo was engaged in a fraudulent scheme (trying to take advantage of non-resident customers), attached some of the photos I had taken of the rear bumper as returned, and asked for specifics (including photos) of the claimed damage. Today, I received a letter from PurCo indicating he claim has been closed - no further action required. read more

Horrible customer service. We rented the car through Costco's car rental program. It's served us great in the past at many places. However, we were driving up to Big Sky and we knew there'd be snow so we wanted to make sure the car had all wheel or 4 wheel drive. We called TWICE to confirm that if we rent a standard size SUV through the Costco program that it would be All Wheel or 4 wheel. Two different customer service reps assured us that all of their SUV's have All or 4 wheel. So we get to the airport and to the counter and we reiterate to the man who's waiting on us that we must have all or 4 wheel and he says with a complete lack of expression on his face; "I'm sorry but I can't guarantee that. Most of our vehicles have it, but there's no guarantee". Then he tried to sell us to a humongous 4 wheel drive vehicle instead at an additional price. Are you kidding me? When we told him that we had already called and had confirmed before we rented the car he said he was sorry but nothing he could do. We asked to speak to the manager and he said he IS the manager. He was rude, uncaring and had a deadpan (no expression) face the entire time we talked. He gave us a car, we went to get it and found that it was not All or 4 wheel. We went back to the counter (this is after dragging ALL of our stuff out to the parking lot - now we are dragging it back) and luckily, and the reason for the 1 star (I would have given it 0 if possible), there was someone else working there. She said she was new and tried to get her manager's attention as he was walking by the counter, but he ignored her. So she upgraded us to a Toyota 4 Runner with 4 wheel drive at no additional cost. Of course, filling that thing with gas was a big additional cost, but at that point we weren't going to argue any further. I hope she got to keep her job - but even if she didn't, there are much better places to be working than for that place. What a horrible way to start off our vacation. I reserved a standard size rental car and, late and night when I was tired, was strongly pressured and ultimately convinced (after 2 or 3 attempts to say "no") to accept a "free upgrade." After I succumbed to the suggestion that I take the truck that was being promoted, instead of the car I wanted, and signed all the paperwork, I was informed that the truck had a long and very noticeable scrape on the driver's side, but not to worry, documents were on file to show it was not my fault. I drove the vehicle without incident, and returned it as scheduled before official office hours in accordance with my flight schedule. The next day I received a hostile phone call from someone at PurCo, in Utah, wanting to know about "the event that caused the damage to the vehicle." I was confused, because there had been no event and the vehicle was on record as already being damaged when I picked it up. I was informed that a letter about the initiation of a claim would be forthcoming. I solicited the help of my daughter, who lives in in the town in Montana where this took place. In phone calls and a personal visit on her part to the Alamo lot and rental car counter at the airport, we consistently were told: "No one at Alamo is able or willing to discuss this with you or to look at the vehicle together because it's all been referred to PurCo. Our company policy now prevents us from talking to you about it." When the claim packet arrived it contained photos that purported to show a small, shallow dent near the ground between the wheel well and the back door on the passenger side. The spot was circled in red, but is not actually visible on the print versions of the photos that I received. I am now in the following situation: although I did nothing to cause any damage, my car insurance company has paid the damage claim, less the deductible. IF I had been given a car in the category I had originally reserved, my credit card company would be paying the deductible, the loss of use, and the administrative fee. However, since Alamo issued me a truck, my credit card company will cover not cover the "gap" costs. I feel I have been completely duped by Alamo, as the company has apparently taken advantage of my age, my gender, my flight schedule, and/or my insurance company, to advance a claim that would help to pay for a previously damaged vehicle. The claim appears to be an attempt to get money from me to repair existing damages that had previously been unaddressed and/or damage that was sustained after I returned the car to the lot and the keys to the counter. I used Alamo's website to convey this feedback and was promised that further communication would be forthcoming from the local office and/or the regional customer service office. Eleven days passed with no word and I started receiving letters from PurCo threatening to "escalate" the "matter." I made one final attempt to contact the local agency (in Bozeman) and after several hours the manager called back to justify everything that had happened, accuse me of lying about my daughter seeing the car on the lot when she came by to get information about the claim, blame me for not talking to him sooner (though no one had offered to connect me with the manager when I made initial inquiries), and tell me that I could pursue "mediation" on the loss of use and administrative charges with PurCo. (My insurance agent had already tried that and was declined.) Here's what I learned: hold fast on not accepting a class of vehicle you did not reserve and don't want to drive; don't accept a damaged vehicle; take a comprehensive and clear set of pictures when returning the vehicle; once a claim is filed against you, do not expect to be treated with courtesy or respect; don't rent from Alamo/National read more
