We had the best price with the best car rental experience with them. Great service. Highly recommend.

Deceptive practices. Read your paperwork before leaving the counter…read more We reserved a **minivan for one week for $1,282.33 and declined all rental insuranceduring the online reservation because we are covered through our credit card. When we arrived at the Bozeman Airport Hertz/Dollar counter, Shamus told us they were low on minivans and offered us an upgraded SUV for $42.99/day, saying it was "50% off." We agreed. What he did not tell us was that he also added rental insurance for $66.99/day. He never asked if we already had coverage and never disclosed that insurance was being added. On the drive to Big Sky, we reviewed our contract and immediately noticed the charge. We called the office right away because we wanted it removed immediately--not after the trip. We were told only the supervisor, Kristina Wilson, could help. Over the course of our vacation and after returning home, we have called at least five times. Kristina has never come to the phone or returned our calls. When we questioned Shamus, he said, How was I supposed to know you had insurance through your credit card? My response: Ask the customer or look at the reservation, where insurance was clearly declined. To make matters worse, they placed a $2,827 authorization on our credit card for a one-week rental. For comparison, my brother rented a vehicle for the same trip through another airport and paid about $600. Customers should know that rental agents often receive commissions on insurance and upgrades, making full disclosure especially important. Based on our experience, the lack of transparency was unacceptable. Read every line of your rental agreement before leaving the counter.Although this location operates under the Dollar name, it is the same company as Hertz. We will not rent from this location again.

Had an excellent experience here recently. Being in middle of the post-COVID travel peak and a…read morenation-wide rental car shortage, I was super worried that the agency would've overbooked cars and left me without a car to go to Yellowstone. Fortunately, that did not happen, and not only that, the representative went above and beyond and got us a hybrid as we requested, the car had only 2,600 miles on it and was in excellent condition. On top of that, the representative did not try to up sell or swindle us into buying additional coverage since I had LDW coverage from Amex, which some other car rental companies (such as Fox) would have tried to do given the amazing rate I had managed to book at (only 1/5 of the current booking price). Just an overall great experience from pick up to drop off. Highly recommend!

We flew into BZM in the afternoon and picked up our small SUV from Avis. So far so good. But when…read morewe got on the freeway toward Yellowstone it became immediately apparent that there was a bad vibration in the left front wheel. It definitely felt and sounded unsafe. It was loud. We turned around at the next exit and returned to Avis. They were apologetic and gave us keys to a different SUV, same class. This car seemed fine and we got back on the freeway. It wasn't until the next morning in Gardiner that I noticed the tires. They were extremely worn, with very little tread left. I rechecked the odometer which showed 21K miles. The car was new. So either the odometer was rolled back, or someone swapped tires off this car? Crazy. I have never encountered this before. It was too late to drive back to Bozeman so we just continued on our trip through Yellowstone. The tires held up thank goodness but it certainly made me uneasy to drive mountain roads on tires that bad. We dropped the car at SLC with full tank before flying home. It could have been worse. After reading some of the other horrible reviews here I guess we should count ourselves lucky. Definitely avoid Avis when visiting Bozeman.

Generally, my Avis experiences are fine. But this place in particular was the worst customer…read moreservice I've ever experienced. Accidentally left my sunglasses in the visor. Drove 2 1/2 hours to see if I could reclaim them because nobody answered the phone at the desk. I got a useless individual name "Alberto ". I asked him to see if the car is still there and if so, can I get my glasses before it is re-rented and the glasses disappear. His response was "fill out the form." I told him the national office says that they process claims in three business days. Since I'm here right now, could you please see if the car is there and I could grab the glasses? "not my job" he responds. This guy was balding and in his 40s. That's the kind of response I expect from an angry 16-year-old behind the counter of McDonald's. Completely obnoxious and uninterested in helping me. Or anyone else for that matter. His coworker, a young man in his 20s, sat in the chair, buried in his cell phone. When I asked him his name, he responded "Alberto ". When I asked him for his last name, he told me "you don't need to know that" I called the national office and they could not apologize enough. They even told me the car was still there. And told me to try to locate it myself. But that was another disaster. I'm really surprised Avis agrees to have their name on such a horrible office.

avoid this rental if you can…read more when we arrived at Thrifty, we waited over 35 min to get help and we were the second person in line. I get up to the counter, give the gentleman my information, he said he can upgrade us to a car that I had already booked, I let him know that that wasn't necessary as that is what I have already booked. I think signed the contract but noticed i still got charge $60 for an upgrade fee. I told him right then and there that i did not want an upgrade as the car he is trying to upgrade us to is what we already booked, he then said he would give us our original car. in the email i received on 1/3/25 for our rental from 1/5/25-1/8/25 it states that we owe $168 and change at the airport, we also added an additional driver for $39 dollars and then had them fill up our tank on return which was $42 which totals to 249, but what we got charged was 318. again its not a fight over the 69 dollars but rather its the principle of not overcharging customers. i called thrifty customer service and they said that this location is stand alone so I have to call them directly. i spoke to them and the gentleman seemed so uninterested in assisting me in addressing my issues that I just thanked him for his time and hung up. i submitted a complaint to thrifty in writing this time and hoping for a resolution. had the additional charges been mentioned to me at the start of my rental i would be happy to pay them but the 168 included some of the fees that they double charged me for. i rent cars regularly from competitors in CA and have never ever run into an issue like such. terrible rental, terrible customer service straight scammers

Don't rent from here unless you bring a contract lawyer with you to review the rental contract…read morebefore you sign! I reserved a car for a few days with the idea that I might extend my trip. I called ahead of time to ask how that works and the person I spoke with said I can just return late and will get billed my daily rental rate. I confirmed this at the rental counter. However, when I got my bill at the end of the trip, it was $300 more than I was expecting. They told me that I had signed a contract and that anything an employee told me was meaningless over the signed contract. Sure enough, on the contract, there's a line item buried for "EDAY" with a rate that's $100 more than my daily rate. How am I supposed to find that without spending 15 minutes reading every word at the counter, and also know that eday represents a different rate that you're billed per day if you return late? Shady business practices. I booked through here instead of Avis like I normally do because the rate was a few dollars cheaper, and I won't be making that mistake again.
