Many of the items, like country potatoes, are cooked in the morning, then reheated and served throughout the day. I took one bite of my sandwich and one bite of my potatoes, then dumped both of them in the trash. The food is tastes so gross. It makes no sense to me that this place can have 2 stars, set aside 4 . My bf stumbled upon this cafe one day and asked they we go try it out for breakfast one morning. 4 visits later, we're still coming! We love this quaint little home style cafe and staff has always been incredibly friendly and accommodating. I always order the same thing: chicken fried steak omelette with gravy on top. DELICIOUS and I never get tired of it. I never take pictures because I dive into it right away (sorry to those that want the pics). Hot chocolate is delicious. Coffee is refillable and just as good. I've taken my brother here and now our other friends just yesterday. Next door is a great coffee shop, Lever coffee as well and it's usually my routine to head over after for another coffee. The only downside I have is the parking lot. If you're lucky, you'll snatch a spot in the small parking lot. Otherwise, you're on the street. read more

First time there this last weekend, and was hopeful because it seems popular. However, was quite disappointed. The coffee was horrible. My omelet would have been ok if the onions were actually cooked and not crunchy. The pancake was not fluffy. The cut up banana and blueberries were good, but that seems a bit beside the point. The service was slow. The ambiance is old fashioned diner. They don't allow coffee from the coffee place down the street (they have signs) but just discovering that other place which looks very cute was the best thing about eating at this cafe. read more

I met a friend for breakfast here. Someone had mentioned it and thought I would give it a try. My friend and I met half way in Alamo for a 1:1 meeting. Yasmine was our server and was delightful. Great attitude, amazing service. The food was spectacular. My friend and I for items made a specific way and they were delivered as requested. I enjoyed Alamo Cafe so much I've been back at least 3 times. 2 of those times I WALKED from Walnut Creek on the Iron Horse Trail, and back, just for breakfast at Alamo Cafe. Came here for the first time today and I'm kicking myself for not know about this little gem sooner!! Love the feel of the small mom and pop cafe. The food was delicious and the portions are huge. I love that they use red potatoes for the breakfast potatoes. My 1/2 Benedict was the perfect portion and my Husbands biscuits and gravy is sure to keep him full for hours. Loved the friendly service even with the heat and how busy it was everyone was super nice and out breakfast came out hot fresh and quick. We sat at the counter and watching the breakfasts be prepared was very eye opening to see how fresh the food is here, they were cutting bananas to order for the fruit side which I don't think I've ever seen at another restaurant. Went for breakfast today and ordered breakfast combo with scramble eggs , home fries, pancake, and bacon. Friend ordered chilli bean eggs with home fries and English muffin. The quantity of food was good the food was fresh. The dish was average $15/ plate. Price is average for a breakfast. The bacon was thick and bit overdone, would have wished it was taken couple of minutes ago from the grill. The home fries was good and potatoes were well done. read more

Decided to go out for a late breakfast during the noon hour. Walking up to the Alamo Cafe during their lunch rush, it was obvious there was going to be a wait to be seated. Both the seating inside and outside were filled to capacity with happy customers. We entered the busy cafe and was pleasantly greeted and given the opportunity to either wait to be seated or to be seated at the counter. We chose to sit at the counter directly in front of the grill. The cook at the grill was busily keeping track of the many orders to be filled. The menu has a nice selection of breakfast specials, omelets, burgers, and sandwiches. Instead of choosing one of the set omelets, I decided on the "Build your own omelet" option. The three-egg omelet comes with home fries and toast. The omelet can be customized with the choices of a selection of cheeses, meats, and vegetables. I chose to add chicken, spinach and Swiss cheese. While waiting for our order, we sipped our coffee and watch the cook at the grill. She was very composed and had complete command of the grill, managing multiple orders on the grill, and getting them out in a timely matter. Each order seemed to be flawless, no charred or burnt food in sight. The staff was very attentive and refilled the cups of coffee as needed. Then it was time for our order to go onto the grill. All fresh ingredients were used, spinach and chicken. Then my excitement sank when I saw processed sliced cheese was used for the Swiss cheese. I tasted the omelet, and it was great except for the cheese. I am a big cheese lover and processed Swiss cheese tastes nothing like the real thing. An otherwise perfect omelet was diminished with the use of processed cheese. Overall, Alamo Cafe is great place to have breakfast or lunch. Came here on that super rainy Sunday we had a few weeks ago with my mom. The inside was cozy and inviting with that nostalgic 50s diner feel. Even though the weather was really bad, the place was still doing a booming business, so I can only imagine what it is like on a nice day! We were able to grab seats at the counter, as all the tables were full. No problem with me, I actually like sitting near the front and watching the food being made. We were immediately given coffee (and later, refills!). The coffee totally hit the spot on such a gloomy day. The food is really nothing spectacular, but it's typical diner fare! Everything tasted fine. Friendly service that is attentive but not in-your-face. I really do not have any complaints for this place, and I will be back! read more

This is one of the few classic diners left... Very fitting for Alamo. I don't understand some of the reviews written below, they must have a bone to pick or just be "those" type of people... The club sandwich was out of this world, he literally cooked the bacon after I ordered the sandwich and preparedeach piece perfectly. The fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce are out of this world. I can't wait to try all their breakfast food. If you want to entertain clients, you should probably go across the street to the peasant courtyard if you want great food quickly on the lunch break and you wanna bring half of it home for dinner later, Alamo café is your spot. Friendly service. We stopped here on a whim for a late weekday brunch. It wasn't crowded but there was a good amount of people on a Tuesday at 10:30am. We chose to sit inside. Our server was attentive and took good care of us. I had the chicken fried steak with sourdough and he had the burger with bacon. There was one cook for all the patrons and it took a while to receive our meal but we had no issue with it. I wish I took a photo of my chicken fried steak. It was SO GOOD. The steak was tender and flavorful. It was a good portion too. I always feel like I never get enough gravy but not today. There was a generous amount of gravy on my steak - perfect in my opinion. The eggs were cooked correctly and potatoes were good. The coffee was also tasty. We will be back. read more

I have always enjoyed this place. The ambiance Is classified as a diner/dive in a good way. Clean, but well worn space not updated in 40 years. Want the bathroom? You'll be walking through the kitchen. There is very limited seating so arrive early or bring the news paper and prepare for a leisurely wait. If you are alone. The counter moves quickly The service is great considering the genre with several long term servers. They are busy but tend to get things done Ahh, the food. No, no, no! The food is dreadful: fake butter on the toast, rubbery sausage, tasteless home fries. I would have ordered pancakes, but I knew they serve fake syrup (corn syrup). Brilliant breakfast spot while traveling south on 680 to San Jose. Bacon done the best I've had, really good clean fresh food and plenty of it. They cook it in front of you like a charming diner. A slight push on the door of the Alamo and you're stepping in to brush strokes of the past. The scent of the slow, fresh brewing coffee and counter breakfast stools tell you you're not in Kansas anymore. You're greeted and seated immediately (nothing like this welcomes a New Yorker) and Eddie seats me at a four-seat table though even though it is reserved for four and it's just me. I'm seated by the window with a view of Alamo bicyclists passing in twos and fours and I am reminded tells of the Taconic Parkway on the east coast. My order comes within minutes of ordering and real corn beef with eggs is the American staple and Alamo Cafe lives up to this breakfast standard. I couldn't fit the entire plate in the picture. [wink] Relax and get away from the world with the view, or just chill from a long drive with the fresh brew. Either way, Alamo Cafe is the start to a great day. read more

Really enjoyed the breakfast here. Mostly because they have country fried steak, which I always order when it's on the menu. And it didn't disappoint. The rest of the menu is standard diner fare, but everything is good quality. It's a small diner with some seats outside, right in the middle of downtown Alamo. During covid they have some seats outside that are well distanced. Friendly service and relaxing experience to dine here. The only issue with the place is they don't have any restrooms, which I think there is just no excuse for in this day and age. They told us we can go to Starbucks to use the restroom, which is a 5 minute walk away. Still deserves 4 stars though for all the other good stuff mentioned above. read more

Old school diner, great food, outstanding service, in its 2nd generation and a true "restaurant family " Hard workers and never a bad meal or ever disappointed.
