Third Ave Cafe is a great place to go for a quick grab and go breakfast or a nice sit down and enjoy a lunch at a table. They have daily specials on the blackboard with their classic lunch box for chicken and a side of veggies or a classic cheeseburger. The couple that run this place are nice and they are very nice to their customers. I liked hearing the gentleman greet every customer who entered with a "Hello or Good Morning" and a little light conversation if he recognized the person. On the counter there is condiments to pack up your order to go with napkins and plastic ware too. The food was hot and very fresh. Portion size was also very good. It does take a few minutes to prepare your order as the food is cooked to order. The spicy chicken teriyaki is pretty good for a deli. It maybe has too much sauce, and isn't spicy, but you can fix that. The breakfast burritos are like $4, so a good cheap meal, but the hashbrowns are raw, and the potato is heavily what you taste. This could be better if they grilled the hashbrowns real quick. They probably don't get enough traffic to justify changing their process though. I would be a regular if their burritos were better. The banana bread is really nice. They're large pre-wrapped slices, and every time I pick up a piece, they like to tell me that it's home made. I found some mold on one though, so I would verify how many days ago they made it - but then again, I would feel awkward asking about the freshness of their food. I didn't ask if they had slabs of butter, but that would be good to have. It's always the same two people every time I go, and they always say something about the weather, or whatever day of the week it is. "It's Tuesday huh", "Fridaaaay!!", " it looks good out there". I'm not a water-cooler banter kind of person, but they're friendly. It's a pretty basic place where you would go and ask for the usual, or whatever. The best home made chocolate chip cookies. I frequent often for the sandwiches (always delicious) but I've heard my peers rave about their teriyaki! It's always a quick in and out, even though they make the sandwiches to order. There's also a couple of tables if you'd like to sit. The couple that runs this place is so welcoming! This place is great for what it is. I like that it's an incredibly casual feeling space. Sandwiches, a simple burger, teriyaki, salads. It is standard lunch fare but it's very tricky finding a lunch spot in this part of downtown that isn't McDonald's and is going to be less than 10$. The sandwich I got had a nice quality to the meat and good thickness. Large amount of bread choices. It was all I could ask for when paying someone to make me a humble hand made sandwich. Our almost-exclusive lunch spot, and occasionally breakfast spot, when we work in Seattle... Of course, our office is just two floors up the elevator in the Securities Building from them--they have a side entrance that connects to the Securities lobby so we don't even have to set foot on the sidewalk. Breakfast sandwiches are okay in a pinch, on-par with McD's or Jack-in-the-Box in my mind. Eggs are cooked to order, but from 'scrambled egg mixture' and not fresh-cracked eggs. The big drawback with their breakfast menu is that they don't open until 8:00 am, which is about the time we start having clients come in, so I'd rarely want to wait that long. Hot sandwiches ("paninis") are all quite nice, but the cold sandwiches I've had so far have felt a shade mediocre. I generally gravitate toward the 'specialties' menu, for a delicious and generous portion of chicken teriyaki. The Bibimbap is good too, if spicy Korean stir-fry is your kind of thing. I recommend them if you're in the area (Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc) and want a nice inexpensive lunch. read more

If you're with people that all want something different, or if you just want a wide selection to choose from, the Third Ave Cafe is the place for you. Something for everybody there; a wide selection of paninis, burgers, all the classic deli sandwiches (including a vegetarian), teriyaki, and bogoli which is a marinated Korean beef. Today I took a spread my culinary wings and ordered the bi bim bap which is a great Korean one-dish meal. It comes in a cross between a plate and a bowl. There's white rice piled in the middle topped with thin slices of what I think is scrambled egg, and around the rice are meat, similar to the beef you'd find in sukiyaki. The beef may actually be the bogoli. Then there's noodles, lettuce, and different vegetables such as cucumbers, sprouts, and mushrooms. They give it some punch with hot sauce and you can indicate how much you want. Then following my uncle's lead, I kind of mixed it into this awesome combination of flavors and textures. I'm always struck by the wide selection of drinks they have available too. The breakfast is pretty normal deli fare; bagels, muffins, and breakfast burritos. They serve Caffe D'arte coffee and make espresso. They also have cookies. Place is really clean too. read more

Marinated yellow and red tomatoes with melted provolone and cheddar (I think it's cheddar) in an inside out toasted focaccia was delicious! Those marinated tomatoes are so good! My coworker picked up breakfast tacos from this establishment do to The US Courthouse Cafe being closed (something about Columbus) today. My taco consisted of: Flour tortilla Hash-brownie potatoes Sausage patties Salsa Frankly, it was terrible. The tortilla was stale tasting, the hash brown things tasted like they were freezer burnt, the salsa was a runny cold obviously store bought yuck fest and the sausage patty cut into pieces and stuffed inside... Blech. I can make a much better breakfast (and did saturday) for probably less, though I didn't pay and have no idea what they cost. The owners are super friendly, and they offer a wide selection of lunch sandwiches and breakfast items. So far, I've just stuck with bagels and iced lattes, both of which are good. My old teriyaki place in Belltown got changed and didnt serve teriyaki anymore so I decided to give Third Ave cafe a try. I went in and I loved the huge and quiet atmosphere. They have a great big board on the side with the specials. I chose the teriyaki special made spicy. They were extremely friendly when taking my order and engaged into a conversation on what I do. I grabbed a soda and sat down, we waited for a little bit and they called my spicy teriyaki. I dont know if its because I was hungry but EVERYTHING looked delicious and trust me it was! The salad was delicious, the rice was just right ( not too wet and not too dry ), and the spicy chicken was excellent!! It had so much taste.
