Usually, most dental experiences make me anxious at least, and abhorrent at best. I mean, I have NEVER had a pleasant experience at a dental office... Until now! I was in desperate need of a deep cleaning and rectifying a few cavities. So I searched for a reputable dentist with great reviews who happened to be nearby. Then, I stumbled upon the holy grail of dentists and dental staff! These people are amazing! The wonderful woman on the phone, Elsa is as sweet as can be. She happily scheduled an apt that was within a week. I came in and expressed my disdain for dentists and dentistry altogether. She told me not to worry that I was in good hands. The dental assistant ( also very sweet, but I forgot her name) was very attentive and calming. She also made sure I was comfortable. Now, for the dentist himself, Albert Tsang, DDS... He was phenomenal. He explained EVERYTHING before he commenced, and make absolute sure I was completely comfortable the entire time! I felt like I was being heard and he made an effort to answer every question I had. When I called about the swelling and left a message, HE (as opposed to someone else) called me back and and answered my questions. How amazing is that?! This is a rare follow up review (not sure it's allowed but my last review was 5 stars and was in 2017). This review is post-covid19, and it's 5 stars AGAIN. Why? 1) Dr. Tsang's Appian Dental appears to be doing everything reasonably possible to provide safe dental care (a little annoying as my check-in took longer, but understandable under the situation); 2) even though Elsa retired, the staff is always friendly; 3) I notice an effort to provide a diverse staff (I am multi-cultural, and enjoyed seeing an African-American dentist / hygenist / staff person at the office: great role model for my daughter); 4) Dr. Tsang demonstrates a patient, respectful, and people friendly manner (which I myself might find hard to maintain after meeting zillions of patients year after year). 5) I could probably go on, but opportunities like this don't come by all the time: I highly recommend you just stop by and try this dental practice while it's under Dr. Tsang, and while you still can! read more

I've never wrote a review here before, but I think this practice deserves some insight. It was the best experience I've ever had at a dental office. I live 30 min away from Pinole, but after the recommendation from a friend, I decided to try this Pinole dentist office. Environment: It was easy to find, nestled in a dental building complex. The practice was very bright and clean, love the plants and the front office lady was very pleasant to talk to. They even had packets of chewing gum on the counter, delicious!! I didn't have to wait for more than 5 min before the assistant led me to the back where they had T.V.s with some nature show on. Staff: Like most people, I am usually very nervous to get dental treatment, but the assistant was very friendly and welcomed me into the practice. She even offered me headsets during the treatment to listen to music. Very professional and polite. Doctor: Dr. Tsang made me feel at ease about the treatment I needed, explained what and why I needed them. He was very informational and so efficient. He made me feel very comfortable discussing all the cavities I had and how to prevent them. Most docs only care about doing fillings and crowns or whatever treatment they can get out of me, but Dr. Tsang actually took the time to talk about a special toothpaste and mouthwash that would help reduce my bacteria load and showed me how to use them. The attention and care he gives to his patients is amazing. Treatment: It was done before I knew it and I didn't feel a thing! Well, the probing was a bit annoying, but he was pretty fast with it. Finished an exam, cleaning, and a filling before the hour was done. Love it! I'll definitely go back for my 6 month. read more

My family and I have been going to this dental office ever since I can remember as a little kid, all the way back to the Dr. Au days some 30+ years ago, so this review is way overdue for both Dr. Tsang and Dr. Au. Their office manager, Elsa, has been there from the very beginning and she is like family to us. We have had such an amazing experience and high quality dental work from them that we have never once thought to switch dentists. Once Dr. Au retired, we were a little unsure of whether his replacement would fill his shoes, but after my first appointment with Dr. Tsang, all of our worries quickly went away, and I've continued to be his patient ever since. He is super friendly, great chair-side manner, extremely knowledgable, and most importantly, a really good dentist. I also love how he brought a modern touch to his practice and is utilizing the latest technology available. Of course, he has an amazing team to boot. In addition to Elsa, Rosanna is an excellent oral hygienist. She always cleans my teeth with such precision that I have a great experience every time. I've heard bad stories of other dentists/hygienists who are rough with your teeth and gums, where they feel sore after their appointment. Never with Dr. Tsang and his wonderful team. Dr. Tsang is literally the best dentist I've ever had! I've been to a lot of different dentists, because none seemed to be right for me or my family. My orthodontist (Axelrode, directly upstairs from this office) recommended Dr. Tsang, assuring he was the best in the area, and they were right! I needed to have a quick check-up because I had an appointment to put my braces on the following week, and they were more than willing to accommodate. They had a cancellation, and were able to squeeze me in the following day! Everyone on their staff is so sweet and caring. The overall atmosphere of the office makes it very inviting. Dr. Tsang is super kind and patient. He is the only dentist I've had that actually reads the comments I make (on the paper that needs to be filled out before the appointment). He cares, and is completely understanding. I usually get a bit of anxiety going to the dentist because I'm really sensitive, but Dr. Tsang was very gentle. He also takes the time to explain to you how to improve your dental health, and teaches you about your teeth. I'm recommending this dentist to everyone! I had a tooth emergency and wasn't a patient but they fit me in. The staff is very helpful and the office is immaculate. I needed a crown and rather than making me wait to come back they fit me in immediately. I don't have insurance and they offered a cash discount. They gave me headphones with Pandora so as to help drown out the sound of the drill and sunglasses to shield my eyes from the glare of the lights. The ceiling has lighted images of the sky which are very pretty. There are flat screen tv's with nature videos (no sound) playing on the walls in each room. Did I say it was painless! The next day they even called me to ask how my mouth was! That has never happened before! He will be my dentist for as long as I live in Ca.! Way to go Dr. Tsang! read more

I've never had a dentist whip out a Nikon and start taking pics of my teeth, but it was nice to see both xrays and digital photos of my teeth. This is the best dentist I have visited. I usually don't write reviews in yelp but I had to do this time because I want everybody who see this review to know how amazing this team is. I love everybody in the office. Before coming to Dr. Tsang, I was dead scared of going to the dentist. Since I walked in the office the whole staff treated me amazing. They truly care about the wellbeing if their patients. I had a deep cleaning and some fillings and the whole process was just great. They offered me a blanket, played my preferred music and asked me how I was doing during the whole procedure. After they were done they walked me step by step on how to care for my teeth and game me an amazing dental kit (FOR FREE). The only reason that I had momentarily deviated from my current doctor is because I had won a $500 valued ZOOM whitening treatment at a bridal show through Dr. Tsang. I was expecting there to be strings attached, but no, nothing. This is a perfect example of the kind of person Dr. Tsang is as well as the staff he has working for him. They are sweet, honest, and very professional. While the exterior of the building looks old school, dont let it fool you...his office is very nice on the inside and his equipment is all super new and up to date (especailly in comparison to where I go now). I have seen my fair share of dentists for a variety of procedures over the years and can honestly say that Dr. Tsang is a highly competent professional who truly cares about the well-being of his patients. I visited Dr. Tsang after receiving treatment from another dentist whose work I was not happy with. Dr. Tsang conducted a comprehensive evaluation and explained to me in plain English the dental issues that needed to be addressed. Moreover, he recommended a great toothpaste for my tooth sensitivity as well as an air flosser, both of which they sell in-house for a very reasonable price. I have found both items effective and continue to use them. Dr. Tsang's prices are very reasonable, which was important to me since I had already exhausted my annual insurance allowance with the last dentist I saw. I needed to have a crown placed on one tooth and Dr. Tsang worked very diligently to ensure the crown was fitted properly and my bite was aligned. Another bright spot to mention is the front office staff and hygienist are also very professional and friendly. If you are someone like myself who has gone to a number of different dentists over the years in search of someone who is highly competent, thorough, friendly and patient, I would highly recommend Dr. Tsang! read more

Dr. Tsang and his staff are excellent!! The front desk is very friendly, helpful and are always accommodating to my schedule. They also are wonderful at follow-ups and making sure that your experience went as expected. Dr. Tsang and his dental assistance are great at explaining procedures. I just had some cavities filled and they made sure I was comfortable and told me to follow up if I have any trouble at all. My experience with cleanings have also always been great and at the end you get a goody bag with all the essentials to keep your teeth healthy. :) My husband also goes to Dr. Tsang and when he had an emergency in the evening Dr. Tsang called after business hours to help!! I am new to the area and need to find a dentist for my routine care. After reading mostly positive reviews I was really hoping this place could work out for me. I called to schedule an appointment and as soon as the receptionist picked up and I told her it would be my first time there she started speaking in a belittling tone. As I was providing her the information she was asking me for about my insurance I asked her a clarifying question (she was not very clear and had a slight accent) and she paused, sighed, and then said, "That's what I had explained to you already honey!" Her attitude was completely unnecessary. If my experience was so awful in the 5 minutes I was speaking to this person over the phone, I can't imagine actually going in there and trusting them with my dental care. I started going to Dr Tsang 4 years ago when getting quotes for a molar implant. He quoted $500 less than the next lowest dentist and had good reviews, so I went with him. The procedure was efficient and painless and Dr Tsang was communicative and conscientious throughout, and 4 years later I've had no trouble at all with the new tooth. Since they charge a very reasonable price for cleaning (I'm a cash patient) i kept going, and I've had nothing but positive experiences there. Dr. Tsang and the previous dentist (Dr. Au) were never pushy with their services but most importantly, the work has always been great. Not only are the dentists knowledgeable and great with their work, Elsa, a lovely lady at the front desk, is the foundation of this practice. I've been a patient at this office since 1968. The practice was taken over twice since. Along with the new practice, each dentist adopted the high standards inherited from the previous dentist. Those principles being, an emphasis on preventive dentistry and to NOT perform unnecessary procedures. When I moved from the Bay Area to a new town, for convenience sake, I sought out a new dentist. After careful screening of several candidates, I chose one and went in for my 6 month check up and cleaning. As soon as the new dentists saw my insurance, he claimed that I urgently needed to have two "cracked" dental crowns replaced. Before I left the office they had my insurance preapproval for new crowns that would cost me a $1900 co-pay. A few days later, the same dental office called me in for a procedure that turned out to be for someone else. They called again confusing my name with another patient's. After getting a DOJ scam alert about unscrupulous dentists maxing out insurance, double billing and performing painful, expensive and unnecessary procedures on unwitting patients, I went back to Dr. Tsang for verification. As it turned out, not only are my teeth, crowns and fillings in great shape, he couldn't find a darn thing wrong with my teeth. Dr Tsang and his amazing staff saved me THOUSANDS in unnecessary dental costs, not to mention my time and pain, but also the cost to my dental insurance. I'm deeply indebted to this honest man. It's a four hour drive from my new town, but worth it for a great smile! read more
