This location is well-stocked, generally clean, and the employees are great. It gets crowded around mid-morning on the weekend, but if you get in when they open at 9, you can be in and out in 20 minutes. Remember to bring a quarter for the cart, bags for your groceries, and extra money for all of the stuff you didn't realize you needed in what I call the "random stuff" aisle. read more

What the heck is happening at this Aldi? We were coming home from Ellicott city and needed milk and onions. Aldi has the best prices, hands down, so we decided to stop at a location on our way, a location we never been to, and will never return. Upon entering the store, I could not help but notice how incredibly dirty the floors are. If a grocery store looks this dingy and unkempt, I don't really want to buy something that is going into my mouth there. Even if I do wash all of my product before consuming it. But it was the lines at the checkout that made us turn around and leave. I realize that grocery shopping on a Sunday can be a bad choice. Everyone is shopping for the next week's lunches and such, but there's no reason why a line should stretch that far to the middle of the store EVER. Inventory can be inconsistent, but overall good for staples and snacks. Such a great grocery store! The best one in this area in my opinion. The products are cheaper here than at most other grocery stores and the quality is still great! I especially like getting eggs and produce here. I always get green grapes and they stay fresh longer than other places. The cashiers are also very efficient and great at their jobs. They quickly scan all the food and you can even put in your card as they are scanning the food to make the process go by even quicker. Just make sure it bring a quarter with you if you want to use a cart! They do this to prevent people from stealing their carts. Also bring your own reusable bags if you have them. Even when there are lines for check-out, they move quickly. You may not get everything on your list, for instance I'm always stuck going to a second store if I need basil or sage for a recipe, but for the stuff they do carry, you won't find it elsewhere for cheaper. Now that it's fall, they sell pure canned pumpkin for 0.89, whereas Harris Teeter carries it for 2.39. In sum, pending your meal prep for the week, Aldi is not likely to be your "one-stop shop" but worth visiting for the cost-savings. read more

We don't need to buy major brands for non-fresh foods so we appreciate the passed along price savings. Aldi is my secret to being an amazing party hostess. My favorite thing about Aldi is the incredible amount of fancy crackers and fancy cheese for low, low, prices. I put together a banging cheese and meat plate to bring to a party recently that cost $10 and was bigger and better than the $20 plate you can buy at Wegmans. Lots of other great things here if you are hosting a party, so make this your first stop. It is true that the food is "off brand" but it's usually the same stuff just put in non-name brand packaging. They also don't always have the same exact things or a full selection (lots to choose from but it might not be exactly what you need), so you may have to make another stop if you have specific needs. But it is so worth it based on how much money you save. Other great items to get here: their $4 face creams get fantastic ratings in blind tests, spices that cost a fraction of the cost in a regular store, the light and fit ice cream bars are awesome. Take a quarter for the cart, take your own bags, take a debit card or cabs. Leave your judgement at home. Walk out with a cart full of goodies, and extra money in your pocket. While this isn't the biggest or best Aldi in the entire metro area, it is the one closest to me so I'm there most often; it's always well stocked, with good customer service, and generally friendly fellow patrons. Yes, sometimes people hang out near the front door, but I've never been asked for money or for anything else. It's fine there. I literally have been shopping at for 9 years and never experienced such a lack of customer service. I elected to shop without a cart because of the coin shortage most places have stopped giving out change, so I didn't have a quarter. I recently broke my hand so this wasn't an easy task. The shopping trip was fine, even tho I had to put the box down a couple times. I get to the cashier and check out as I go to push to the cart to bagging table to off load my items and bring the cart back. The cashier tells me "oh no baby leave my cart". I have literally never had this happen even when my hand was not broken, the cashier's would at least let me or any other customers use the carts to off load items. Or at least ask. read more

Wegmans, Whole Foods and Safeway are just a few of the major chain supermarkets in the Baltimore area. This essentially can pose a huge problem when you're trying to maintain your healthy eating habits.. wanna know the secret to staying a lean mean fighting machine and saving mons in the bank? Aldi. I don't care what anyone says about the area... yes, Aldi's is located on Baltimore St. BUT if you aren't going here at night (keep in mind the store closes at 8PM every night) then you won't have an issue. I came on a Saturday, same usual quick and friendly service. I wound up with an entire cart... this is not an exaggeration. Steak, Chicken, Fish, Pork Chop, bananas, eggs, milk, cereal, asparagus, avocados, apples, oranges, kiwis, grapes.. you name it, I got it. I mean, I did have to stock up my new home with all the essential goodies :) My total bill came to $83 and some change. Talk about a deal! Eggs, Milk and Cheese are marked down by 1/3 of the regular price you would pay in Safeway. Maybe it's time to try something new out? Just some food for thought... Best secret for foodies. This ain't your Wegmans, WFs, or Harris Teeter's. But did you know they're owned by the same company as Trader Joe's? Yeah. You know it! Don't listen to the "Aldi's sells horsemeat" stuff. Just don't buy meats here. I actually can't say, and even if they do sell horsemeat, that's okay because I have never gotten meat or intend on getting meat here, but the things they are great for are the following: 1. What folks have said about fancy crackers and cheese. Think Trader Joe's. But even more proletariat. 2. Blackberries for $0.89/carton?! What?!!! And they're FRESH! 3. Grape tomatoes for $1.50? 3. This is a decent place to come to when you're trying to save a little cash. Most of the items here are not going to be brands that you've EVER heard of, so if you're not a stickler for well-known brand name products and don't mind generic versions of things, this store may work out well for you. The prices are very good for most things. The only thing that I would not recommend is the bread - I do question its quality. It didn't even last for a week before it started getting stale - by that time, it was pretty much only good for feeding the birds outside in the backyard. H&S Bakery Outlet is close enough to this location that you shouldn't really need to purchase bread here, so I wouldn't. Aldi is like Save-a-Lot stores - very no-frills and basic. They won't give you bags here (or they'll charge you like a quarter for each one) - either bring your own reusable or you can use the cardboard boxes that they stack up in the corners, but they go pretty quickly and they're not real sturdy, so reusable ones are best. They also charge a nominal fee to use their shopping baskets, but it's refundable - sometimes a previous shopper will finish as you come in and will offer you the use of their basket, too. Be aware that this location is in a semi-sketch area - I wouldn't come here after dark by myself. It's right on the border between an okay neighborhood and a REALLY rough area, so be careful. I pass this Aldi store on my way home from work everyday and I was always curious. After reading reviews on Yelp I decided I had to stop to see what the craze, and apparently super cheap prices were all about! ******Few things to note: No Carts No Bags (bring your own or only get a couple things) No (or only a few) name brands No credit card (debit only) I did not see any carts out front of the store at all, so I guess this is true that they do not let people use carts or baskets. I was only grabbing a few things and I brought my own reusable bags, so not a huge deal. Upon walking in you are forced to walk down the first aisle to the end because you are surrounded by boxes on either side of you. Their merchandise displays are literally stacked boxes of how the items were shipped and the top box is opened for you to grab what you want. This was difficult in the freezer section.. it is hard to tell what is in there and everyone stands and stares. Name brands are not their style. Everything was an off brand. I was very skeptical of a bag of tortilla chips that I grabbed for only $1.75 (usually Tostitos go for $3.50 a bag). I also grabbed a couple avocados, eggs, milk, big bag of hash browns, an apple slicer, paper plates and a few other little things... my total was $14! Now again, was completely skeptical of the quality of these things. The register was awkward. I put my items down on the conveyor belt (even though there were a couple people in front of me who did not put their items down). Well, my stuff moved to the front and the lady started scanning away... needless to say I got to butt in front of the man in front of me, but the woman made me feel like a jerk about it! And said it was the mans fault for not putting his stuff down... I told him sorry but he just glared at me. She was very quick with the scanning and I got flustered. I payed debit (because credit is not an option). Then quickly had to bag up all my stuff myself while the man is still glaring at me. **awkward** Overall... $14 was a win... the people working there are not the nicest in the world. The tortilla chips I was skeptical about were edible, not my favorite, but they weren't bad. The avocado and hash browns were excellent. For those of you who don't know, Aldi is a German ultra-low cost grocery chain that is about 20-30% cheaper than Walmart for lots of items. The E Fayette location carries so-so produce that costs far less than Santoni's or Safeway. The selection is also pretty good considering Aldi doesn't have the full range of products like most stores. The best part of shopping here is getting the German made snacks and chocolate that are sent over by the parent company. If you live along E Baltimore, it's definitely worth a try. Bring a quarter to use for a cart. (Quarter is returned on exit). I usually head directly to the organic produce section for tomatoes, carrots, small pickling cucumbers. I got some grand organic pomegranate vinegar. But on returning it seems to have been a once a time event. I couldn't find in again. So sad! I love their frozen organic pizza. But who doesn't love pizza. I get all my home-bake pizza from Aldi. Bring your own bags or opt to use the many empty boxes available. Now that is nice. It helps the earth to recycle, you know. ALDI is awesome! They have a different business model that can take a little bit to get used to - but every single thing they do differently is to save you money and it really shows - they are incredibly affordable! - Carts - you must have a quarter to unlock the cart from the others - when you return your cart you will get your quarter back - Bags - they do not provide free bags, you can buy some for about $.10, bring your own, or use empty boxes that used to hold merchandise - Debit, cash, or EBT only - Really fast checkouts, but typically long lines. Part of ALDI's savings is that they are organized to need less staff - this means fewer check out lines, but they are also designed to move really fast (items have multiple barcodes to make scanning them efficient) - Products aren't on shelves - they remain in the boxes they came in - this means that ALDI does not have to staff people to take items out of a box and put them on a shelf. This saves you money. It does make the store look slightly less appealing, but you'll forget all about it when you see your $$ total!! - Name brands - nope they don't carry them - but again this is a discount grocery store. Their generic version of most items is quite good One of the best parts of ALDI is that unlike other less expensive stores, they stock a lot of products that you don't usually see - like hummus, some organic products, whole bean coffee (!!), fancy cheese (feta, brie, goat - and they are actually good!) etc. However, the downside of only carrying a small selection of products is that when they are out of what you want - they are just out and you have to go elsewhere or wait until your next shop. Overall, I absolutely love this place. That said, this location is not in the best area. I do not go here after dark and whenever possible I bring my fiance with me (even during the day). I am probably overly-paranoid, but I was attacked in a Save-A-Lot a couple years ago on a Sunday afternoon by a complete stranger... so I am kinda nutty about grocery shopping now (even at stores in better neighborhoods I tend to look over my shoulder a lot). If you work to hard to be ballin' on a budget, this place is for you. I've been going to safeway/vons for pretty much my whole life. They're nice, clean stores but a little pricey, especially when compared to the terrific prices that Aldi's boasts of having. I normally would spend $60-100/week shopping at Safeway. At Aldi's I typically spend $40-$50/week. The store is pretty solid. It looks a little rough and the surrounding neighborhood does too but it you can get over that then it's totally worth it. The employees are very kind. The produce/meat selection is a little scant. In fact, they don't have a lot of specialty items but you can get by with just doing your run-of the mill shopping here. Walking into Aldi for the first time was almost a surreal experience. From Millville to Living Active, there were brands I've never seen displayed everywhere! Even more bizzaro, the prices were extremely low. I've discovered the lines can grow long, but it's nice to have a grocery store with good prices.
