El Campesino is a pretty decent full-service Mexican restaurant located on busy Cleveland Avenue NW…read morein Canton, Ohio. The restaurant includes a full bar which is accessible from inside the restaurant proper but also has a separate entrance from outside. There are plenty of comfortable tables and booths at which to sit while you dine. The menu is pretty extensive, check out my photos for the entire eight page menu. Upon being seated we were immediately brought chips and salsa. I asked for some queso dip to go with the chips as well. The salsa was pretty ordinary but the queso dip was very delicious. Having not dined here before I asked the server for suggestions. He recommended Molcajete which I enjoyed. It is steak, chicken, shrimp and vegetables and cheese served in a mortar which appears to be made of volcanic rock. The liquid in the mortar was boiling when I received it and continued to boil throughout most of my meal. The dish is accompanied with rice and beans, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole salad. It is served with warm flour tortillas. It's a whole lot of food for $14. My wife and my mother both ordered El Campesino Fajitas which is beef, chicken and shrimp cooked with onions and bell peppers. It was accompanied with all the same items as my Molcajete. My father ordered the Quesadilla Supreme. It's a huge flour tortilla grilled and stuffed with cheese, mushrooms, chopped beef, onions and vegetables. It was accompanied by rice, lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. Everyone enjoyed their food. The portions are huge so we all had enough left over for another meal the next day. Prices are very reasonable. I enjoyed my entree but to be honest I found it to be a little bland. My wife felt the same about hers. I added lots of delicious hot sauce and some black pepper to enhance the taste. The service was excellent throughout our visit, it was very fast and friendly. Our server was very attentive from start to finish. 3.5 stars founding up to 4 for the exceptional service and great value.

We had an appetizer and it was delicious, the verde salsa was scrumptious. We asked if they sold it haha. As for our meal I got pollo con creama and it was probably the best version I've had in canton. He got carnitas and he said they were also delicious, everything was hot and fresh and tasted great. Service was good, the hostess and the waiter were both really nice and on their a game. We never had to ask for anything they just had it that good. The place was clean, it looks like it used to be a jazz club before? It was organized well and was bright and cherry. We will be back for sure, it's tucked away where it is but definitely if you're in the area stop in. It's

My favorite Mexican spot in all of canton, great prices, great food and drinks, and of course great…read moreservice!! Best place to go when it's nice outside.. sit out on the patio with a margarita and a modelo haha! Have to add that they have THE BEST cow tongue (lengua) tacos out of everyone else!!!! Which are my favorite so I'm a hard critic.

To preface, I'm not "that guy" that finds a reason to write a bad review…read more But, I don't know whether to blame the waitress or the restaurant for the awful time my wife, our friend, and I had this evening. The waitress spoke no English at all and had a very difficult time just taking our drink orders. My wife ordered a small lime Margherita, and I ordered a small beer. She brought a medium gold Margherita and a large beer (and charged us as such). The waitress had to get help to take our food order (everyone got tacos). My wife's came with cheese on hers, mine didn't. Our friend got the ground beef tacos and they were so salty that she couldn't finish hers. The waitress didn't come back to check on us. When our friend and I went up front to pay our checks we waited 10 minutes without a response. So my friend called the restaurant on the phone and explained why she called. The employee just hung up on her without saying a word. Then they sent our waitress to cash us out, which she had no problem doing. We had no opportunity to speak with management. I would understand (maybe) if the restaurant was busy, but there were 5 tables with customers and 3 waitresses. Was it solely the fault of the waitress for not speaking English, or the restaurant's fault for knowingly putting her in the poor position that she was put into? Either way, we won't be back.
