Coming from a doctor family, and even having a dentist as an uncle, I know what generally should happen when seeing any kind of doctor. In high school, I decided it was time for me to get my wisdom teeth pulled, as I was having some general soreness from the pressure. Alex is the father of my best friend, and I had asked him if he would be willing to do this, and he agreed. Going in, I had decided that I would be awake for the procedure, which was a little frightening, but Alex was great about it. He took his time with numbing and made sure I was alright throughout. Of course, there's nothing fun about what you hear during dental procedures, but he let me blast my music with headphones so that I could try to drown it out. We did my wisdom teeth in two sets - the left and the right, after he had recommended it, and it was honestly a great decision. I was able to eat on the other side while recovering. After each treatment, he made sure to go through what I needed to do to have the healing process go smoothly. Now, years later, I still go to him first whenever I have any dental questions -- even before I go to my uncle! read more

The girl that runs the front office is rude and incompetent. It started with her not being able to find that I was insured...even after handing her my card. She made me get on the phone with the insurance company and the company told me they don't know what the problem is, because it clearly shows I'm insured. Just her demeanor made me want to walk out right then and there. I met with the doctor and we came up with a plan for what I needed. I liked him...he was great. A few days later I had an infection starting and called in. The Dr. had me come right in and gave me prescriptions. He was again great. But the front desk girl once again was incompetent. I needed a tooth pulled and she couldn't get the insurance to approve it. She said it was major surgery and could take up to 6 weeks. . She also told me I had to call the insurance company myself to get the approval. What? Isn't that your job? I've never had to do that. She was always rude on the phone and made it seem like she was being put out. I finally just googled another place nearby with great reviews and got right in two days later with my insurance approving the simple procedure. They needed the X-rays from this place and once again the girl couldn't even send them over when asked. The day of the surgery they called again to ask and she sent over a pixelated X-ray that they couldn't read so they just took another one and didn't charge me. Such a bummer, because I'm sure he's a great periodontist. I just DO NOT recommend his front office girl. She's incompetent and rude. read more

His staff is very friendly and made sure I understood the post surgery instructions. This review is on behalf of my mother and her experience with her dental implant surgery with Dr. Pezeshkian. The extraction of four teeth and placement of implants went smoothly, until her last appointment when she was told AFTER the procedure that: 1) Dr. Pezeshkian does not attached abutments to his implants, which he failed to mentioned (on top of that he didn't mention until after the procedure how much extra charges will incur to complete the tooth replacement treatment). A thorough dentist should be able to tell you a step-by-step process of your treatment. I recommend finding a doctor who does the whole 9 yards... implant, abutments and all. 2) Dr. Pezeshkian did not consult with the patient on her options before treatment. In this case, one of the implants was more complicated and there were two ways to tackle it: (a) a more "traditional" (less skilled) method by leaving the back tooth crooked thereby costing more to fill the crooked tooth, or (b) a more involved and skilled method (this case.. a sinus augmentation) but resulting in a straight tooth. Being an old-fashioned dentist, the Dr. went for option (a) and failed to inform the patient until AFTER the procedure what he had done, leaving the patient with a crooked tooth and eventually costly tooth as it is an atypical one. Maybe the Dr. thought that option (a) was the best for the patient, but that should be up for the patient to decide before drilling into his/her mouth. I'd say this incident violates ethical conduct. Overall, Dr. Pezeshkian may be a great dentist, but one this for sure is he SERIOUSLY lacks doctor-patient communication. I'm almost positive this isn't his first case of "miscommunication." I mean, there are probably far worse dentists out there, but there are also a lot more skilled and friendly ones if you look harder (or just lucky). read more

After annual dentist appointment this year (2012), I was told that I needed to see a Periodontist in order to fix my receding gum on one of my lower teeth. So I went to Dr. Alex A. Pezeshkian with the problem. He told me that he would need to do a skin graph on it, by taking a piece of skin from the roof of my mouth and stitching it onto the exposed root of the tooth... He was very brief about it, and didn't give me any other information, even though I told him that it did not bother me as it was and even though I asked him if he really thought the procedure needed to be done.... I thought it best to listen to the doctor, and since I am very busy, I didn't look for another opinion, I just scheduled my appointment for the surgery. It was the WORST SURGERY EVER! I have had braces, wisdom teeth pulled, and other surgeries, but I have never felt like I was in worse hands. I was awake for the surgery, but thats not the problem. Dr. Pereshkian did not check in with me once to see if I was okay.... At one point, mid-surgery, I had to tap him so he knew he was hurting me.... It was awful. Even after the surgery, I was given gauze and told to wait... I felt uninformed, frightened, & like i was an inconvienience in Dr. Pereshkian's schedule. When having the surgery he made sure I was not feeling any pain. Everything went very well. I am back again having a bridge replaced with implants. I've been seeing Dr. Pezeshkian for nearly a decade. I've had everything from tissue grafts, to implants, to deep cleanings, to some other stuff I can't even remember the name of. I started experiencing receeding gums and bone loss when I was only 15. Ten years later and all those gum grafts from Dr. P have saved my teeth. I literally dont trust any other dentist after seeing Dr. P. I go in there with an issue, he tells me what i need to have done and I do it. There's really no need for a second opinion because I've basically had every tooth in my mouth operated on in Dr. P's office at some point and so far so good. As for implants with Dr. P, getting an implant is like, a year process, but every check up and xray that has to do with the implant is covered in the cost of the overall procedure. There is no copay or office fee each time you go in to have Dr. P check out your implant, and he'll check on your implant every two months for nearly a year after the initial tooth removal. He doesn't put an implant in and send you on your way. And yeah, he doesn't put the actual crown on the implant, you have to see another dentist for that, but Dr. Devani, who he reccommends for the crown is just as gifted as Dr. P. As for the person who said the gum grafting was the "worst surgery ever," yeah, he has to remove skin from the roof of your mouth and sew it somewhere else, it's going to hurt. Dr. P is a highly skilled oral surgeon, this is not like getting your wisdom teeth removed. It hurts but Dr. P is the ONLY person i trust with such specific oral surgery. I've had about 8 gum grafts and so far there hasn't been a single issue with Dr. P's handiwork. Since I have such weird periodontal/gum issues, my regular HMO dentist charged me several hundred dollars for Arestin (antibiotic for deep pockets) and when I went to see Dr. P, he told me that Arestin is bullshit and that my regular dentist took advantage of me and clearly didn't see that I have much more going on with my gums that just "deep pockets." So now, I just pay the cash price and have Dr. P do all my deep cleanings if I don't have insurance at the time. read more

I was pretty nervous to get more dental work done. But when I sat down with Dr Pezeshkian he goes by Dr. Pez his confidence reassured me that he knew what he was doing. The first step to the procedure I had to get done, he numbed one small area, and then the nurse/assistant that is "so nice" she would wait with me to make sure I am ok. Then after a little while Dr. Pez would come back in to continue numbing. Everytime I would finish with a small section of my gums he would have me do a following up each time. To make sure I am healing the way I am suppose to. I was able to make payments when I would come in for my dentist appointments. Most of the time it was differant amounts. What ever I could afford at the time.. And Dr. Pez is OK with that because he knows I will pay him the full amount. The whole staff is very friendly, even though they are very busy. He has over 30 years experience in his field and he is the most highly educated He was referred to my family about 5 years ago by 2 general dentists that our family has gone to and I would trust him over any other doctor. I am very nervous and scared when it comes to dentists but when I went to him for implants he made me feel very secure with his knowledge and experience. I highly recommend Dr. Alex Pezeshkian. He is a consummate professional: competent, skilled, accurate, and up to date on the latest techniques. Dr. Pezeshkian and the members of his staff are pleasant, knowledgeable, and immensely helpful. Because I had so many bad experiences with dental work in the past (pain and poor results) I was quite apprehensive when my regular dentist told me that I had significant bone loss and would need to have some teeth removed, bone grafts and most likely implants. My dentist referred me to Dr. Pezeshkian and even though I trusted my dentist, I was initially pretty guarded and untrusting. Over the past few years it's been necessary for me to have extensive dental work which included the removal of eight molars, bone transplants, sinus lifts, and implants. The only pain I've ever had because of the surgery was so minor that a couple of Tylenol was all I needed. I literally just came out of surgery from Dr. P 's office . I still don't know how much pain I will have during recovery, but I can say that the procedure and specially the numbing part were pain less. I have been to at least 7 dentist in my 36 years and this was the first time that the numbing was sooooo smooth and hardly pimchy. Dr P truly has gifted hands. I have been a patient of Dr. P.'s for over 20 years because I have complete trust in his abilities and expertise. When I was about to lose a tooth to gum disease and an abcess, he offfered to try to save it and he did. I still have that tooth 20+ years later. Because he is the best, I have followed him from his first office in Glendale, then to Torrance, and presently in Cyprus, where I have to drive 40 minutes to see him. It is worth it because he is an expert in his field. In addition to two successful gum surgeries, he has provided ongoing, excellent follow-up care, providing instruction on how to maintain healthy gums. I highly recommend Dr. Pezeshkian. read more

I do not recommend this doctor. OFfice staff is unorganized. They definitely need more staff. I will not get into specifics on the procedure recommended, but I will tell you that if you have a dental HMO plan, it is likely that when you are referred for a specialized area, these doctors tack on more and more so they can make money. In my case, I was told i had to have surgery. Yes, one area maybe. they said they would call me the next day to make an appt. I had to call them for the follow up, two days later, because they never called. Also,when i left, being horrified of the news, I soon realized that they didn't explain the procedure, give any explanation...they just said surgery with a brief description and made it sound like roses! Well, I went home and found myself researching. Finding myself writing down questions. After researching and talking to others, I opted to see another. Boy am I glad I did that! I do not need what was recommnded. They lack communication skills, professionalism and empathy. Furthermore, I question the Ethics in this practice at this office. read more
