What went wrong? Well, service was great. The place inside is cute. We sat outside and enjoyed the view. So what went wrong? The food was 2 stars across the board. My husband was just happy they had beer. I was starving and the food still tastes blah. Avoid the cheese curds they taste like a bad soggy cheese toast. They are super airy and the cheese is just dry. Fried calamari and shrimp is doable. They should use that batter to on the cheese curds. I was craving fried chicken so I went ahead and ordered the chicken and honey. It was so-so. It came with a flavorless cole slaw and corn. My husband and friends ordered sandwiches which they didn't like either and I doubt their worth ranting about. Caramel chocolate pudding is a seriously boring ass desert. It was great! Came in w/my girlfriend when we couldn't get a table at Kashkaval. Looked at Medi but too pricey and didn't look fun. Kept walking down 9th and what did we spot. Alfie's? Yes! A pub. Both my friend and I are avid wine drinkers so a pub wasnt what we were looking for but.........we walked in anyways since it looked happening and cozy. We were greeted by very nice people who showed us to a table. The menu was pub fare but more upscale. Food was super delicious. Fish n chips, mussels?...buttery mussels. Met up with a girlfriend for HH at this local spot and LOVED it. The HH drink ($5) was a little sweet but still tasty- I wish I could remember the name. And my friend enjoyed her spicy margaritas ($5) thoroughly as well. The main attraction of the evening was the LOBSTER PLT. Lobster? Done. Pork belly? Done. Sweet potato fries on the side?! DONE AND DONE. There's no way this entree can fail. It was just as awesome as it sounded on the menu and I demolished that ish. I went this restaurant/bar with my husband and friend of us in Saturday night about 10pm. The seats was available when we got there but soon got so crowded in an hour. The food we had was great! Mac & Cheese is very cheesy, The fries was crunchy and Calamari & Shrimp was flavorful. We had a good drinks, eat a lot and talks a lot...it was a good night out. Only thought was the staff were nice in the beginning, but I felt they were a bit pushy to let us finish the food and I didn't enjoy that. but we were happy overall so I gonna try this place in somewhere weekdays thought. read more

The Wild Mushroom Crostini, Mussels and the Pan Seared Salmon are the dishes I've tried during my visit and thought were really good. The Charcuterie Board however was just okay I feel. I like to order the Abita Purple Haze when I come here, but they do have great beer selections ... many style of beer to choose from. The outdoor seating is very relaxing when it's nice out. Excellent Scrambled Eggs During the pride parade, we rolled in with 8 people for a late brunch and were seated immediately. The place was almost empty. The bar's theme is incredibly intentional and detailed. Take out the TV and you could be back in time a hundred years. Food I love that they include a drink with all items on the brunch menu. This is win-win and gets everybody in a good mood. I was amazed by the Hangover (2 eggs scrambled, sausage, slab bacon, home fries and a heaping portion of greens, 14). Normally, scrambled eggs in restaurants is dry, but they managed to cook it just little runny. They are lighter on salt, but in a good way. The sausage was exactly oil enough and salty enough. The salt here balanced out the eggs. The slab bacon is the only part of this meal that could be improved. I thought it could have used less time in the frying pan. I always appreciate balance in meals and that means having vegetables as a key player instead of an afterthought. This plate was exceptional in this regard. My friend and I popped into Alfie's for a Thursday night dinner and HH experience. They have a few specials running from 11am-8pm, but we both elected to order of the extensive craft beer menu. They have a ton of beers on tap, so I recommend trying them out if your a beer drinker! We each also ordered a make your own burger, which was huge and messy. With a hearty helping of fries to match, it's surely a good bang for your buck. Service is pretty good. Our waitresses check on us, but we didn't feel rushed to leave. The ambiance is great too. I clearly never masted the art of research. Simply because I can't remember what restaurants are in my neighborhood, I google and yelp everything. I was looking for the double whammy of spring time eats: Happy Hour and Outdoor seating. If you're to yelp Happy Hour and Outdoor seating in Hell's Kitchen, you would think there is nothing in the hood. Havig lived in the neighborhood for too long, I was smart enough to know that a bunch of restaurants open their windows or put tables outside. Lucky for us, when I got to Alfie's I realized happy hour lasts until 8pm! Solid decision making on my friend's part to come here. Not so solid decision making, ordering the beet salad. Alfie's is a neighborhood bar and restaurant in a space that has been a revolving door of restaurants for the past few years. At 9th Ave and 53rd street, it is in a prime HK real estate location but unlike most of the spots on 9th that are mainly just restaurants, Alfie's is both restaurant and bar. 9th needs a few more bars, IMO. Alfie's seems to attract a young, mid-late 20's crowd, who come in groups either to booze and eat or for date night. The scene is lively, with decent music playing and on weekend nights, it gets quite crowded - much more exciting than the sleepy thai / Italian / etc. places that line 9th. I have been there a couple of times for dinner and drinks and I have always received good service - greeted quickly at the door and seated promptly, friendly wait staff and bussers swarming around clearing empty glasses and plates. I usually get the cheeseburger when I go. It is it thick and juicy with a heaping portion of melted cheddar on top. It is very tasty and the definition of comfort food. The fries are excellent as well. As mentioned above, it gets pretty full at night on weekends, so if you plan to go with a group for dinner, plan to either get there early or be prepared to wait at the bar for a while and have a few drinks - which is not a bad thing. read more

I came here with a friend to catch up over drinks, and was pleasantly surprised by the food quality. Ambience was dark and cozy. It felt like a typical pub you'd find anywhere else in New York. Service was great! They checked in often and were very friendly. The menu was small, but it was very well done. I ordered the fried cheese curds and the brisket sandwich. The cheese curds were perfectly fried without being too battered. The brisket sandwich came recommended by the waitress, and boy was she right! It wasn't too sweet and it was very tender and tasty. Literally everyone there is so friendly and really takes care of the patrons. The food at Alfie's is yummy and moderately priced. The drinks are strong. The atmosphere is always fun, as a neighborhood bar should be. Great for chill nights, and for getting " lit". They have a decent happy hour --and my fav "fall frozé". We stumbled upon this gem during the last few hours we were NYC and I'm so glad we decided to go in. The bartender (who I think was also a manager) was very personable and helped us in making beer decisions (we wanted something local) and food selections we had the Lobster PLT (lobster roll with pork belly, lettuce and tomato)...DELICIOUS! Our server was nice; however, appeared rushed and she only came back once during our meal. The food was good; however, it did not stand apart from any other typical pub food, and in fact, I thought I had much better at other places I have been. We ordered the Alfie's Burger and the Brat Sandwich and split them. Again, we thought they were good; however, did not exceed expectations. Came here with a group of 5 for brunch on a Saturday morning. Having read all the reviews was hoping to have a good experience but the food just overall fell flat. I ordered avocado toast and it was so bland and did not have any flavor which was disappointing. It comes with green salad which has no dressing so this dish overall was a fail. Two of the girls ordered eggs Benedict and said they enjoyed their dish so it seems like it's hit or miss. Only half of us really enjoyed our meals. I love it when I don't have to wait to get brunch in NYC, especially during the frigid winter. I love it even more when each entree comes with a morning cocktail of either a bloody mary or mimosa. There is ample seating here but a lot of the table seating gets taken early, leaving the high tops for up to parties of four. It didn't matter for us since we were all tall enough to sit on the high tops and I had a perfect view of the TV to catch the NFL divisional game. We made it super easy for our waitress by ordering the steak and eggs, over easy and medium rare steak. The eggs and steak came out just the way we ordered them and I liked how they pre cut the steak for us into bite sized pieces. The food was done very well and definitely hit the spot for a good Sunday brunch. The bloody Mary's really are great! Not as spicy as I expected but they have a nice subtle horseradish flavor. You get one free drink with your meal: either a mimosa or Bloody Mary. I got the French toast which was made so much better by the fact that there were caramelized bananas and REAL maple syrup. My fiancé got the pulled pork Benedict which was also very good. Awesome addition to this area. It has some competition nearby, but this place has definitely carved out their niche. Plus, the bartender is this super hot guy with an accent. Very comfortable atmosphere to sit and have a drink with friends. They even decorated for Halloween! I was there hosting yet another event for students, and the bar manager was extremely accommodating. He even turned down the music for a minute so we could announce the results of our charity raffle. He also helped me hang our banner in the window and stopped by regularly to make sure that we were all set. Drinks were reasonable. For happy hour, $5 cosmos and appletinis? You'd have trouble finding that price at an Applebees in Oklahoma past 7pm, and this is Hell's Kitchen NY. I'll definitely be back. read more

A restaurant/bar like this is not something that anyone ever travels for, but I will say that if you're ever in the midtown west/hell's kitchen place and you want a drink or food, you could do FAR worse than Alfie's. The service was attentive and polite. The guy (assuming manager) was very welcoming the two times that I've been there. Alfie's has a pretty decent beer list (didn't try any mixed drinks) of both drafts as well as bottled beers. Our server was able to explain the beers also, which was really helpful for my friend who doesn't drink beer often enough to know what she likes. The food was pretty on point. We went here for brunch at around 2:30 pm (yeah hungover from previous night!) and this place was relatively empty, so we didn't have to wait, to be seated. We also got our complimentary drinks with it. We got the Bellini and Bloody Mary. Both were just about OK. I thought they were watered down... Regarding the food... our pretty little hostess goofed-up part of our order but we won't take away any stars because she did resemble Dakota Johnson a little bit, and then was kind enough to offer my Mrs. a free Bellini to correct her mistake ;-). Food was nice. My wife didn't enjoy her Pesto Chicken too much.. said she didn't really taste pesto too well and the Chicken wasn't moist.. was a bit dry. As for the burger.. yes, I totally agree with fellow yelpers.. they are really good. However, I am also a fan of Five Napkin Burger on 45th and 9th.. both burgers were nice and juicy... 5N just has a slight edge because of the sauce they use on their breads.. However, 1 complete star for their sweet potato fries.. they definitely beat 5N with this one! Overall, good experience. 1 star specially for carrying Ithaca's Apricot Wheat on tap. Came here for a late brunch on Saturday. Ordered the Steak & Eggs. Honestly, it was the best Steak and Eggs I've had in 5 years. The steak was tender, moist and delicious. It comes with a gorgeously green chimichurri sauce. I've been to a lot of places up and down 9th Avenue in HK and can't believe I've been overlooking this place for so long. Really excellent job! The blood mary could use some work - too heavy on the mix. But just nitpicking at this point after that delicious brunch steak. Service was also great.
