Went here based on the good reviews and pictures of the food. Sadly, was very disappointed. The server looked incredibly disinterested to be there and was very abrupt. Ordered a steak (medium) and scrambled eggs. The steak was extremely well done, the eggs were a browned, hard yellow puck, and the breakfast potatoes were soggy. The toast was fine at least. Just finished eating at Alina's Cafe. Granted it's a Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. so it wasn't crowded at all and while the breakfast choices were not as huge as some places, what I had was very good. I visit up here pretty regularly and it's worth the Uber ride from my hotel to eat there. Definitely recommend. read more

Customer service is ok! But Never again! Food was not it, eggs only scrambled or over hard eggs, price well it's expensive! Breakfast potatoes were not cooked and still hard, I don't think anything was fried or actually cooked . I was happy to see someone that knew restaurants take this place over and we like the new name. Went in there for a late breakfast but had lunch instead. Decided to share a a couple of items to try out. The burger was very good, one of the better I have had and the balsamic chicken sandwich was very good as well. Both were good size and fresh. What came with the items was the pork and lentil soup which was fantastic, I would be happy with just that. Great service. We will be back soon read more

We used to go to this place when it was Anchor for a $5 mimosa or Irish coffee on the weekend. It has a comfortable coffee house vibe with couches and semi secluded table seating if preferred. The food was ok, I think the main problem is the service and lack of training. When we arrived we went to the counter to ask if we seat ourselves, they pointed to a table. My boyfriend was looking at the bar counter and they said "you can sit there, but I am pretty sure that one chair is broken ha ha" why the broken chair is still out to sit on is a question in itself. The original server that seated us self admittedly could Not pronounce the two beers they had on tap and didn't know anything about them just said they were beer. One was bodhizafa from Georgetown which I am familiar with and told her how to pronounce it and explained it was an IPA. The other one was just described as a beer from xyz brewery. She quickly brought our beers and ice waters and let us look over the menu. After quite a while about 10 minutes or so. We could see the two servers standing behind the counter chatting amongst themselves and staring at their phones. No big deal, just kind of annoying when you are waiting to place your order. I approached the counter and asked if we could order. The second server came to the table to take our order, I had a few questions about the menu, to which she just looked over my shoulder at the menu to find the answer. One question was what kind of dressing do you have for the salmon creek Cobb salad? After looking over my shoulder for a minute she had to go to the back to ask, we also asked what the soup of the day was and she again had to go back and ask. We ended up ordering the chicken sandwich and Salmon Creek Cobb. We subbed the regular cheese for swiss on the sandwich and I asked for dressing on the side. When the orders came to the table the sandwich had the regular cheddar on it and my salad had salmon on it. It didn't look like our order so I asked if it was correct and she said you ordered the salmon cobb, I said the name Of the salad was salmon creek Cobb, I didn't ask for the up charge of salmon, (which maybe a name change would help alleviate this mix up) and he had ordered different cheese. They did offer a correction of my salad to take the salmon off or make a new salad. I don't like wasting so I said there's no reason to remake it. There was no resolution to the sandwich, but again we don't like waste so we ate it and it wasn't a big deal. The food was ok, and the mystery beers were nice. I really hope these owners take the time to train their servers, this could be a fun weekend hangout. read more

Small, friendly cafe with a surprising large menu. I liked that there were the typical heavy breakfast/brunch options for when you're okay with taking a nap after (French toast, Croque Monsieur, decadent pies), but also very veggie-forward and lunch options served all day if you need to keep moving. Seems like a great spot to treat yourself in Des Moines whatever your mood, and close enough to walk to the water if you want after. I hope this place thrives, I'm excited to go back and try more off the menu! read more

What a lovely little find. Very nice and cozy inside. The service was amazing. I had the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. It was very yummy. They were even decently seasoned ( which is usually hard to find). I am very picky about biscuits and gravy and I would definitely come back for these. I ordered a hot green tea and was pleasantly surprised it was a Jasmin green tea and it was made perfect, not at all bitter. I would highly recommend eating here. My son was in town and wanted brunch. I haven't visited Alina's yet and really wanted to give this local business. We both had the baked eggs with some kind of delicious cheese sauce. Just thinking about it three days later makes my mouth water. It was served with crunchy sour dough toast and marion berry jam. The portion size was perfect and so was the price. The waitress was attentive and the place clean and tidy. We were both extremely satisfied and want to return soon because the menu looks so good with some really different combinations of burgers and sandwiches. Try this place out! read more

Service at the counter was fine, discount if you use cash!
