Which I could give a review of the meal but the staff was more concerned about the fact that they close at 6 pm. We walked in before 530. Every question on the menu was received with what appeared to be annoyance and impatience and answered with shortness and more questions peppered with attitude directed back at me. The shop was EMPTY. The plaza had one car. No one else but my husband and I looking to patronize. Been coming here for as long as I remember it being open. I put so many people on to this place as my "favorite" doubles in south florida. I decided to swing by for 2 ($5.50 total) doubles. I asked the lady for extra cucumber on it (its included for free). And extra tamarind sauce. (A little more of a squirt). The lady put maybe the size of a quarter of cucumber in both. Which is 100% the normal amount. I asked for a little more in one. She put maybe the size of a dime worth more. I gave up caring. Then gave me the normal amount of sauce. The short hair manager that was sitting down eating on her phone kept hearing "extra" "little more". Regardless of the extra not actually being given. The lady got up ran over to the register to check me out and instead of it being $5.50 before tax. It was now $8.00 before tax due to her adding a "small side of cucumber". She charged me $2.50 for i swear to you 1 cent worth more of cucumber. It was the size of a dime more of shredded cucumber. The first lady didnt mention it would be extra. The manager didnt mention it and I saw it pop up on the screen for 1 second and she didnt even mention it. Im not coming back ever again. Nor am I promoting this store again. I have gotten over 100 millions views on social media in the last month and all I have to say is ive chosen to leave a yelp/google review. Its not about the $2.50. As soon as my cousin saw the name, she lit up, as mentioned an Ali's location in Brooklyn that always had lines around the block. We decided to give it a try, and it did not disappoint. The roti and doubles were deliciously fluffy, and all the dishes were packed with flavor. The servers are always kind and welcoming, which is a rare find at many Caribbean restaurants. Sometimes they even play soca music, adding a festive vibe that makes me feel like I'm at Carnival. Keep in mind, this is a take-out only restaurant with no tables or seating inside. I had some of the greatest doubles--"melt in yuh mouth"soft, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. My children ordered roti with curry chicken breast, and they said it was delicious. I liked the fact that they had the bone in and boneless option for kids preference. The staff prepared everything fresh right in front of us, using gloves and maintaining a clean, organized space. The food from this place is amazing. However, their service not so much. When we first walked in, I started my order with 2 doubles, and the lady left to go to the back to grab the hojaldres. Then she kept asking if that was all, and I said no, and I kept repeating mh full order of 3 more things. And she kept forgetting, and made my doubles. Then she went to get the roti from the back, and the saltfish pie from the front. Then she went to the back to make the carimañola. While she was in the back frying it, another lady asked me what my order was, so I told her my full order, and she went to the back to repeat my full order, which confused the other lady, because I think she thought I was making a new order. They finally figured out it was the same order, and I was rung up for my order. I paid, and then waited for the carimañola to be done. Finally we got our order. We ordered 2 doubles, dal puri roti, carimañola, and saltfish pie. Everything was still very hot when we opened up the bags at home. The doubles were very good loaded up with all the sauces of tamarind, a green sauce, and a red sauce. The dal puri roti was very soft and savory. It was huge! The carimañola had a good texture. Crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. The yuca was very good, but I feel like the meat filling needed a bit more flavor. The saltfish pie was very flakey, but the saltfish itself was very dry, and was in a spicy sauce. I feel like the flavors weren't that great. If you go I suggest you get the doubles, and try their curries with the roti. Everything was $14 for the 2 of us, so the price was very good. We were so full we didn't even finish everything. I just feel like if the staff had better organization they would definitely be a 5 star establishment. There needs to be someone in charge. Came by for some Trinidadian food in a road trip in Florida. The shop is casual and located in a small strip mall. There's parking in the front and very ample parking in the back as well. The staff were extremely friendly and food came out lightening fast. We got two doubles which were a delicious mess of chickpeas and roti. They were generous with the filling and gave us a healthy splash of their hot chili sauce as well. The beef pie was good but not as differentiated and a bit skimpy on meat filling, but the doubles really stole the show. Interior has some seating but is mostly take and go. Went here for the first time, we love Caribbean food overall but there are so many different cultures & we're unfamiliar with Trini food. The waitress was very patient & helpful explaining the different dishes. My husband had the lunch special: fried swordfish, rice & beans & a salad. He enjoyed it but wish he would've gotten some kind of curry. I ordered 2 doubles, one was goat curry, the other was vegetarian wirh pumpkin, chickpeas & spinach: og my goodness, SO DELICIOUS!!! The atmosphere was very warm & friendly, it's a really small spot (seating for about 10-12 folks maybe) but you can taste the love in the food. I'm not Trini , I love the culture so much but I'm not well versed in the dishes . So it may take time to convey that . Sadly if you are like that Ali's will give you pretty poor service . Being short with customers while they are just trying to figure out what they are ordering or what they want is wrong . Also it felt like I was rushed to explain myself because she was helping out another customer . No one and I mean no one told her to stop what she was doing to help me . I could have waited but they don't care all because I was told that on SATURDAY a couple of beef pies would be put aside for me on Tuesday when they usually arrived . I have been going to Ali's for a few years--pretty much since it opened in our neighborhood. I was thrilled to see a Trinidadian eatery nearby. Mostly we get the doubles (made with two baras--flat fried dough--and filled with curried chickpeas). You get spicy sauce or tamarind sauce in your doubles, I prefer tamarind on the side. Two doubles makes a meal! And at about $2.25 each, it's a good deal. Recently I tried the chicken pelau (a one-pot dish with chicken, rice, pigeon peas, and seasonings). It was delicious. So, last Saturday I decided to get some take out food for the family's dinner and to try a few more of their offerings. I ordered 4 doubles, 2 carimanolas (from Panama, it is a torpedo-shaped yuca dumpling stuffed with chopped meat and deep fried), 1 chicken pelau, 1 curried chicken with roti, and 1 chicken stew special that came with white rice and macaroni and cheese and callaloo (Caribbean spinach). Most chicken meals cost from $9.99 to $14.99. Be warned that the chicken usually is not boneless. Though some boneless meals are available at a higher price. The doubles were delicious, as always. I adore their tamarind sauce. So, was the chicken pelau. It was my first time having the carimanolas (I grew up with a Panamanian godmother who would make them for me from scratch) and they were decent. I would have all three again. The curried chicken was OK, but not a stand-out meal. And I had to eat my chicken wrapped in roti with a knife and fork for fear the wrapper would fall apart. The stewed chicken was a bit dry. Mac and cheese OK. I was turned off by the callaloo because it was pureed and poured into a Styrofoam cup. Yuck! I thought. But I made myself try it. And boy was I surprised at how deliciously flavorful and spicy it was. But I still didn't care to look at the green mush in my plate, so I rolled it in the white rice to eat it. :-) There are two drawbacks to this place. Parking can be tough. The few spots in front of the store go quickly. I am told there is parking in back, but once you exit the lot, you have to do some major maneuvering to come around and get back to the lot behind the store. I usually park in the strip mall south of the restaurant and walk to the store. The second negative is the slow service. The staff, especially the young man up front, is very nice. But, a woman ahead of me had phoned in her order and got there and still spent about 30 minutes waiting. After I had put in my order and paid for it, I watched at least 4 or 5 people come and go, mostly with orders of doubles. Fine. I had to wait for my meals. But then when it was time for me to head out, they had run out of the wrappers for the doubles, and I had to wait even longer for them to fry some more. Say what? Shouldn't my wrappers have been put aside and let the ones who walked in the door later wait their turn? The food manager was not on the ball. And it took about an hour for me to get my food. Don't go there expecting anything pronto! Now, I will point out that lots of the items (especially the breads and such) are made fresh. That's a plus. But waiting too long for your food is the norm here. Because I prefer my own curried chicken and brown stew chicken, I won't be ordering either of those again. While I was there, I saw a few orders of curried goat go out the door, so I may give that a try. I am definitely sticking with the doubles, carimanolas, and chicken pelau. Will I go back? Absolutely. But only when I have lots of time to spare! read more

I always need my vegetarian plate with my roti and curry. The vegetarian platter is simple and fresh. The goat curry was a great choice with a generous portion. The plantains were fried to perfection and not oily at all. The curry was very well balanced. It definitely reminds me of home cooking. Im not a fan of restaurant style curry with the excessive spices that gives you heartburn. Came here right before a flight in FLL. As a Seattle half Guyanese gyal coming to Florida my first instinct was to try to find Guyanese food here since it's closer to Guyana and I can't keep eating the food my mom makes there's also only one Caribbean restaurant in all of Seattle that serves Guyanese food and it's not that good. Found this gem through Yelp: serves Trinidadian and Panama style food but very similar and most the same as Guyanese cuisine. The minute I heard you can order buss up roti I knew I was in the right place! Serving woman was very nice and helped me order the right tings as I had never really ordered Guyanese food except through my mom who is 100% Guyanese and know what's she's ordering. Highly recommend ordering doubles with all the toppings so good! Aloo pie, goat curry and peanut punch also! The curry is spicier than I normally have made for me but that's because I can't handle spice and my mom is nice but true authentic is spicier like this one. This is the first time I had roti, but it won't be the last. If you like curry, and have never had roti, I highly suggest you try Ali's Roti Shop. First, let me say when you go in you are welcomed with a smile. As some of the other reviews have said, the ladies in Ali's are welcoming and don't mind questions. For example, I thought roti was curry wrapped up like a burrito, but the menu says - chicken AND roti or beef AND roti. So hoping they would forgive my ignorance, I asked about this. (You can have yourcurry wrapped in roti like a large sandwich or separate is the answer by the way.) The portions are huge here!! So I suggest getting the roti on the side. Picking it up as a sandwich was yummy but messy. In fact, with the portions as large as this, I could have made several burrito like roti instead of just one huge one. The curry itself was slightly hot, according to my friend who was with me, who is Jamaican. His tolerance is higher than mine. I would say it is medium spicy lol. It was very tasty and filling and not so hot that I couldn't taste the spices and flavor. The curry spice is the star as are the big pieces of moist chicken. I also got a piece of carrot cake, which was moist and delicious with just the right amount of cream cheese icing. It was also a large portion. To drink, I got their pineapple ginger juice that they make there, and it was perfect- spicy and sweet. The place itself is very clean and homey. Overall, a great first experience with roti!
