Good sandwich spot where they make their own bread and it's freshly baked every 20 minutes. I got the hot pastrami sandwich and the bread was truly very tasty--crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside. The pastrami was pretty good as well, had nice flavor and came with mustard, pickles and peppers. Across vast competition in the pastrami sandwich space in LA, this sandwich stands its ground and is definitely worth a try. As a side, I got a small caprese salad and it tasted very fresh and yummy. The place itself is updated and has inside and outside tables. The customer service was very solid. Would come back here again!

    The Godfather (L) $17.95

What I Ordered: -The Godfather (L) $17.95 Works w/Extra Hot Peppers "Come at the king, you best not miss" - Omar from The Wire. That's how I feel about All About the Bread's take on the Godmother sandwich. All About the Bread's "Godfather" sandwich features a blend of spicy capicola, mortadella, ham, prosciutto, and Genoa salami, along with provolone cheese and standard toppings. I added extra hot peppers, but, in my opinion, they weren't very spicy; they seemed to use Giardiniera peppers. Also, be aware that they use a generous amount of mustard. While the meat quality doesn't quite match Bay Cities, the bread at All About the Bread is truly exceptional and lives up to their name. It's much softer than Bay Cities' chewy filone, so your jaw will thank you. I particularly love the bubbly crust; it offers a satisfying crunch without being overly chewy, and the bread's fluffiness is something special. You should definitely check it out! While Bay Cities may have the edge with their version of the Godmother/Godfather, All About the Bread's bread is superior. I'd explore other sandwiches here, but I wouldn't order the Godmother again because I find it more enjoyable at Bay Cities. The Godfather isn't the king of Italian subs in my opinion, at least not yet. My friend, who frequents both places, agrees that Bay Cities' Godmother is the better choice. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the sandwiches are prepared quickly. I appreciate the shop's ample seating both inside and out, and it's nice to eat and people-watch on Melrose.

Loved the honey lime chicken sandwich! Not sure if mine had any jalapeño - wished there was more heat. The bread was soft and a little chewy (in a good way of course)

Sandwiches were good! Custom service and staff was great! Staff was able to make accommodation for my toddler niece.

We had some very good sandwiches. The bread is the best thing, as name implies. I like a thinner bread with a crisp to it and soft inside and that's it! Generous portion of meat and cheese. Super easy online ordering and our stuff was ready quickly. Nice price for a good size sandwich. I had the Godfather and the regular size sandwich was 2 meals for me. The shop is bright and clean and the staff were incredibly nice. The chocolate chip cookies are great too.

I stopped in today and ordered the Godfather from the really nice guy behind the counter. He took my order and right away I could tell this place was gonna be good. Super friendly, outgoing, and just had good energy. Let's start tho with the interior. Super clean, wide open space with tall ceilings, big windows, and lots of natural light. The layout is simple, and everything feels nice and organized. You can see all the meats and sides through the glass. It just gives off that legit deli vibe, and I love that. Now the sandwich. The Godfather is loaded. It comes with spicy capicola, mortadella, prosciutto di parma, black forest ham, genoa salami, and provolone. Then they pile it with pickles, onions, tomatoes, shredded lettuce, Italian dressing, mustard, vegan mayo, and some Chicago peppers. It's got that classic Italian flavor, and everything inside tasted fresh and balanced. The meats were packed with flavor and the dressing combo gave it that nice tang and little bit of heat. My only really small complaint was the bread. It was great, but just a little more chewy than I expected. I usually like my bread softer, but it still held up well with everything stuffed inside. No mess, no sogginess. Just wish it had a softer bite. I also ordered a side of their potato salad, and I was honestly surprised how good it was. Creamy, cold, flavorful, and you can tell it's made in-house. Probably one of the better potato salads I've had from a deli. Oh, and by the way, the gentleman who took my order?... turns out he was the manager. While I was sitting there eating my lunch, he came over and handed me a complimentary bottle of water. That was classy. First-class move. I'll definitely be back.

Will never come back here again. After I got an order to go, they refused to let me use the bathroom. Apparently, their policy is onlt for dine-in. Manager is on a power trip and petty!

I've had my eye on this place for a year now. Came in on a whim as I was in the area. I had good expectations from all the reviews, but wow, this place really speaks for itself! Raphael was very kind and gave us recommendations on what to get--the Godfather and Milan Salami. Each one an amazing sub, and the bread, incredibly fresh. Definitely will be coming back as it's run by an amazing crew. Glad to have dropped by!

Sandwich is affordable and tasty! They make their bread in house. Highly recommend the godfather with the works. It is so delicious! Just wish they would have an ice cup to go with their canned sodas. Staff are friendly and helpful when placing orders. They have a big screened tv and they were showing football the day I went. They have table indoors and outdoors. Small parking lot in front of them that is shared with other shops.

Pretty good sandwich spot that definitely fulfills your sandwich cravings. I got the Turkey Club which was rich from the mustard and italian dressing. It was really good and I liked the crisp bread too. The menu was easy to navigate and their Godfather is their most popular sandwich. I also tried their Italian sandwich, my girlfriend loved this sandwich. I probably won't go out my way to get All About the Bread but there's really nothing to complain about, I'm just comparing it to other spots.

    The Godfather, medium works!

Shoutout to All about the BREAD! my new favorite sandwich spot. I live in Santa Monica, and will drive out of my way or DoorDash because this sandwich spot is so GOOD! I love a good Italian sub. We have Bay Cites where I live in Santa Monica and they call the sandwich there the godmother. Well folks the Godfather is a way tastier sandwich... just saying, and the BREAD! Omg so good and fresh, best bread in LA. The bread is baked hot and fresh every 20 min. The service in store is excellent, staff is attentive and then even have JUMBO dill pickles! You must check out this sandwich spot if you are on Melrose. I would drive any day from Santa Monica to Melrose because it's that good! #happycustomer #lovethegodfather

We went around 11am and there wasn't a line yet, but by 11:30am it started to get busier and there was a small line. The staffing, service and efficiency were on point. Our server, Kevin, was nice and took good care of us. I ordered the lox, egg & onion scramble with a side of potatoes. It seems like most people come here for lunch and, obviously, for the meat. My meal was fairly bland. I did get a side of the house green salsa and that helped. It was definitely not up to the same level as the pastrami though. I personally wouldn't come back myself, but I would go if someone I was with really wanted to come. Overall, this seems like a great place. They have their own parking lot across the street, they have their operation down to a T, and they really nail the things people come there for. I appreciate that they have alternative options, but I would try something different next time. Maybe their other scrambles or their French toast would be better.

So it's quite the coup that I finally made it on over to the Heights DABS! A slice of that 18 inch pie is on the brain today as I skip up the mini-staircase into the joint. Having just come from another not-to-be-named Pizza spot in the DTLA to NELA corridor, my hangdog face belies my energetic hoppin-pep-in-the-step into Heights, shaking off a droopy and disappointingly dry slice amidst the brain-bleeding profanity laced hate-punk screaming over that joint's speakers as I sized up the Margherita I always use as an avatar to benchmark how we dooooin' in the pizza quality and taste department no matter where I go. I confess I've been captured and SPOILED by love affairs with Greek Pizza in Boston, Deep Dish in Chicago, NYC greezy gooey goodness at 3am, and of course the ultimate seduction of sublime simplicity of the Neapolitan Pizzas of Napoli. Yes, I am a sucker for the traditional brick oven Margheritas and Bufalinas of Italia, just that simple barometer of OG greatness, minimalistic bliss. Less than 5 bucks and 10 min later, I'm ambling down said teeny stairs with a large warm white cardboard box that seems far too large for a mere SLICE. Have they made a packaging error? I was expecting a small thin wilty Dixie plate! These days, we don't wanna waste cardboard, do we? Driving off, I contemplate a spot to pull over along the Arroyo Seco to enjoy my dining behind the wheel. I just can't hold in my wondering, patience is definitely NOT a virtue when curiosity is just killing this Jazz Cat. A quick stop at a red light later, I can't hold it in any longer. FLIP. UP. THAT. LID! Daaaaaaammmnnnn! That is one MONSTROUS slice, as I slyly smile in astonishment! But my sly smile slowly segues to sadness, then semi-panicked confusion, disorientation, even! For THIS is not the Margherita one familiarly recognizes as the artistic minimalistic masterpiece a proper Neapolitan Margherita MUST BE! I am starting to get anxious, angsty, and now a bit ANGRY! what a fool I was! Instead I am misled into chow down mode to consume a Godzilla-sized molten mess of mossy dry basil haphazardly strewn about to and fro across the pie, resembling katsuo bonito flakes dancing around in the disarray of their differential dehydration! Inexplicably, jagged rows of somewhat square Roma tomatoes are lined up in lazy formations like a disorganized military company. What's more, the gooey globs of mozzarella are NOT expertly anchored down to the bed of cheese below, supposed to cling to the pie while providing just enough protruding relief like an old globe map with a mountain range rising above the horizon. Nope, they are instead here and there and almost everywhere, seemingly untethered to the matrix of cheese below, chaotically floating around like slightly rectangular glops of pale possible goodness?!!? JT, hold it together, you must attack this mess while it's still hot. Beep Beep! THE LIGHT HAS TURNED GREEN MANY SECONDS AGO! Get thee to the Arroyo! Minutes later, I'm at my perch. I bite into the unruly beast. I am pleasantly greeted by a most satisfying CRUNCH! Then a chewy tug-tremendous! Then the mass of basil flakiness flying through my mouth and down the hatch, chased by those deeeelish misshapen untethered white cubes o' cheesiness charging down my throat aside tons of tumbling tomatoes! It's an absolute avalanche of WOW! It's like there's a party in my mouth, and the most unlikely heroes showed up and showed out! Let's add the Unconventional Neapolitanical Pizzas of Lincoln Heights to the Lovefest List! Heights DABS, you've made my day. Nothing succeeds like excess. In fact, most people will need a take out box for one less meal to cook. Delicatessen means delicate eating in German, but at a Jewish American Delicatessen, the emphasis is on the Eating, which I am not complaining. 1) I requested an off menu item of having a Reuben sandwich where half is Corned Beef and the other Pastrami. Brent's Reuben has warm Sauerkraut, grilled Rye bread, melted Swiss Cheese, 1,000 Island dressing. Thinly sliced, multi-layered Mound of Pastrami is a bit on the dry side. Curing doesn't create a deep meaty Umami and spicing is present but attenuated. The Corned Beef is moister with bit more Umami & plush, thin multi-layered red colored meat. I have to say the Pastrami at Langer's is cured more intensely to bring out a deep Umami as well as more complex and complementary spicing of especially warm spiced cloves that adds aromatic richness. Brent's Pastrami doesn't seem to reach that kind of apotheosis. 1b) I asked for the steak fries to be fried two minutes longer for a crisper finish which was honored. Not much in way of that distinctive potato earthiness, but acceptable. 1c) Coleslaw is mayonnaise based, watery, bland, but a good cruciferous, fibrous veggie to add more fibre, healthful phytochemicals to counter the meat overload even though it isn't flavourful 2) Carrot Cake is closer to a delicate, dense, moist spice cake. A slice is enormous since it is cut from an extra tall cake studded with crushed walnuts and a cream cheese like not too sweet frosting. At $14 it could feed 4 people. Service is fine. They take your order and run with it. Bit of tunnel vision where it may be a bit hard to flag them down. But the job does get done. Overall 3+ stars
