Updating my review since I came here to eat in person. As suspected, eating here is the way to go. I have had Berlin on my list of places to try in person and it did not disappoint. Restaurant is pretty small with 2 tables inside and shared seating outside. The employees were all super friendly. I ordered the sandwich this time because I saw someone else order it and it looked very tasty with chicken and original sauce. The doner came out fairly quickly. The inside was exactly how I remembered it. The meat was generous and tender. The veggies were fresh. Everything was so much better when I ate it there. Also, the bread was nice crunchy. Definitely this doner should be eaten there for the full experience. I am definitely going to come back here next time my doner craving hits. A few logistics, there's a small lot for parking but I can see it getting crowded during peak time. And no restroom inside.

Doner Sandwich. Kabob tasted like space hydrogenated chicken. Also weird taste.

Horrible. Absolute trash. One of the worst middle-eastern style sandwiches and the first and last time I order anything doner or Turkish style pita breaded sandwich probably ever. What a joke. I have no idea what I deserved to get such terrible quality but here goes: I ordered the chicken kabob style 'classic doner sandwich' with fries. Truly absolutely disgusting. I've never had hydrogenated chicken breast, but it was quite leathery and had zero flavor . No salt. No pepper. No spices . Tasted like old jerked shoe leather space hide meant for Apollo missions. I mean it tasted like imitation 'veggie' chicken meat, but it wasn't . Taste was that bizarre. Fries were no better. Over cooked, and tasted like it had been sunbathing under the lamp for hours. À horrid experience . I cannot believe for the life of me that Berlins has like over a thousand reviews with an aggregate 4.5 stars. Success must be going to the chefs head !

Stopped by Berlins German Doner on a Tuesday afternoon for a quick snack and had a great experience. The place is casual but clean, and the service was extremely friendly. You order at the counter, and while the menu is limited, the food really delivers. We tried the Doner Box with beef--super tasty meat, extra crispy fries, and flavorful sauces that tied everything together. Great spot for a satisfying bite. Will definitely be back!

Donar beef and lamb , drink and fries. About 20 dollars with tip . A good value, and a delicious sandwich. I've come here enough to fill up several cards with the stamps. I'm never disappointed.

I come to Berlin's all the time because my barbershop is in the same plaza. Almost every time I get a haircut, I end up grabbing a sandwich here--it's become a routine. Mateas and Luis are the best. They're respectful, fast, and genuinely know how to take care of customers. I've even seen them give free sides like French fries when orders take longer than expected, which shows real appreciation and good service. I usually get the chicken wrap or the doner with house sauce, hot, and spicy. I'm not personally a fan of lamb, but a lot of people love it, so it's worth trying. The chicken, though, is a must.

We just revisited Berlin's and found it to be as delicious as ever! We ordered the Chicken Doňer Wrap and kept wanting me. Very flavorful. The shop was spotless and inviting. The two male employees (Saturday early evening) were very nice and welcoming. We drove a distance from the South Bay just for Berlin's! We'll be back, of course, but wish you opened another location down in the beach cities. We'd be your best customers! Great food!

Came here on a Thursday evening around 6 to grab dinner. It's impossible to find Berliner-style döner kebab in the US, so I have to try it when I see it. It's a small shop with limited seating and the folks working there were incredibly friendly. I put in an order at the counter for the beef and lamb Döner sandwich with feta and the spicy sauce as well as a side of pita and garlic aioli. The flavor was a thing of beauty, I haven't had anything as good as this since my first time having Berliner-style döner in 2014 in Europe. It tasted so good that I went back and put in an order for a chicken Döner sandwich with feta and spicy sauce. This one was also incredible. So glad I came here and will definitely seek it out again the next time I'm in LA. Highly, highly, highly recommend coming here!

Don't quite know what to make of this place. Food is fresh and bright and tasty, but a bit above normal market prices. I ate my whole rice bowl in one sitting (chipotle usually lasts me 2). For $20 it's just not a substantial amount of food. Don't know if it was just a lacking day lol. Service staff are great, keep it clean, very prompt and professional. Also why is it named and classified German?! Maybe i'm uneducated here but it didn't taste German at all! Enjoyed it though. Still would come back though, simply because the food tastes real and clean. It's worth the price for the quality upgrade here in my opinion.

Lamb and beef combo is the best. Juicy, spiced right, never dry-just perfection in every wrap.
    David K.

Five stars! Berlins' donor sandwiches are legit delicious-always fresh, packed with flavor, and consistent since way before COVID. Never had a bad bite here. Keep killing it!

I ordered the Cordon Bleu Schnitzel with Brussels sprouts and spätzle on the side. The schnitzel was easily the highlight of the meal. I don't come across Cordon Bleu very often, so I was excited to try it, and it absolutely delivered. The Brussels sprouts were a great pairing, and while the spätzle was pretty simple with a light buttery flavor, it complemented the richness of the schnitzel well without overpowering it. The service was great throughout the night. Our food took a little longer than expected to come out, but it was a busy Friday night and our server kept us updated the entire time, which I really appreciated. My friend was also celebrating his birthday month and was given a free Beer Boot, which was a really fun touch. The atmosphere was lively and perfect for hanging out with friends. We were there while the NBA Finals were on, which made the restaurant feel even more energetic. One thing I also appreciated was how easy parking was, there was plenty of street parking both in front of the restaurant and across the street. Their menu consisted a huge selection of beer, sausages and dipping sauces for fries. We opted for the Duchesse sour, Dr. Browns Black Cherry pop, Duck sausage, Buffalo sausage, and small fries with curry ketchup. The ambience was great! It felt like a beer hall since it had long tables and benches in the middle, everyone was drinking beer having a great time. There were also smaller cozier tables on the side if you wanted a more intimate space. We enjoyed our drinks and people watched while we waited for our food. The Duchesse red ale sour was really yummy, it was a good balance of sweet and tartness. We got the duck, bacon, and jalapeño sausage with sweet peppers and caramelized onions, the hot dog was delicious!! The sausage was a bit rich but the savory flavours were incredible, it was grilled well with a nice crispy skin and paired really well with the sweet peppers. You also get a huge selection of different mustards to try - yellow, dijon, seeded, honey, brown, you name it, they've got it. The buffalo, cherry and mint sausage was very good as well, but it's a bit more dry and gamey than the duck. The grilled bun is just ok, it's a solid blank canvas to highlight the tasty sausages. The fries are fat boys and seasoned very well. I normally am not a fan of thick fries but these changed my mind, the curry ketchup gave it a nice complexity as well. I just wish they gave you more sauce since the fries are so chunky. :) Had a really fun time overall and can't wait to come back and try their other sausages and beer options.

The most we have seen so far, it was more a "business plan" let's do what Americans may think a German beer garden looks like. Our friend, the LA promoter Vahe, took us yesterday. We found a little gem, grown over the years, with an actual German owner and a service that had more than basic knowledge of German food. Nice! The ambiance was what you would expect from a place like this, less stylish-designer but more owner look-what-we-brought-from-Germany over the many years. The food was actually good, reasonably priced and generously portioned - the sauce platter really deserved its name "platter"- Came with great German curry ketchup. It would be too much to brag about the food, it was decent better than just OK version of classic beer garden dishes. But one has to be fair: where in German beer gardens you find food really worth bragging about? So while I was really tempted to stop at 4 out of five stars, I give 5. After all, it matches my most key how-to-get-5 element: would I do a 30+ min detour just to go here. If someone asked me to show them decent German cuisine in a somewhat authentic ambiance, I would take them here. The Kiez may be closer to our home, the Wirtshaus more stylish, but here we found the hearty welcome we missed elsewhere.

Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. I ordered the chicken schnitzel with mushroom gravy, my boyfriend got the Hungarian brat with spaetzle, and our friend ordered the Hungarian brat on a roll. Starting with the schnitzel: it wasn't completely terrible, but it definitely wasn't good. The breading was some what soggy and sliding off the chicken, and the chicken itself had almost no seasoning besides an odd lemony sourness. The mashed potatoes were honestly awful -- extremely sour, like they were overloaded with sour cream but missing butter, salt, or any real flavor. I LOVE mashed potatoes and only managed two bites before giving up. The red cabbage was overcooked, mushy, and had a slightly off taste. Overall, the schnitzel plate was maybe a 2/10, and those points go solely to the fact that the chicken itself was technically edible. My boyfriend's meal somehow managed to be worse. The bratwurst was fine, but tasted frozen and reheated rather than fresh. The sauerkraut, according to him, "tasted like dirty socks." The spaetzle was genuinely offensive -- mushy, overly bland, and tossed with what looked like hydrated diced mushrooms that literally tasted like dirt. I honestly questioned whether it had gone bad. Beyond the food, the restaurant itself felt dirty and had a strange smell throughout. It honestly seems like a place locals may still visit out of habit or convenience, but it no longer reflects what I imagine it once was. It's unfortunate, because there's something special about a restaurant that's been around for 65 years and still tries to maintain its old-school charm. Sadly, the food and cleanliness just don't live up to that legacy anymore. Save your money unless you're only stopping in for an overpriced German draft beer. We definitely won't be back.

However this last visit (05/04) was very disappointing. The person taking the orders seemed to be very distracted, and appeared to be annoyed that she had to serve me. Additionally, room had opened up at the counter, and I sat myself while waiting for my food. My food sat for a good five minutes while she was talking to another guest, and delivered it to me curtly. The cook had to deliver my fries when done, since she was still having an in-depth with the other guest (we were the only guests there). The cook had to alert the person taking orders again that I wanted another $4 + bottle of coke. Additionally the currywurst was not as good in terms of flavor as before. The sauce was not as flavorful or spicy as I remember, even though there seemed to be the same amount of curry powder on the sausage. I'm not sure why I was treated this way, I was cordial, and left a tip when I ordered (even on the bottle of coke that I had to beg to get). Hopefully this is just a one off, as I used to enjoy coming here.

I wish there had been more caramelized onions to provide a more tasty contrast with the mild perogies. The highlight was the flaming cherries & cheese (it was cream cheese) crepe. Tasty and fun! The modest sounding chocolate pudding is also surprisingly delicious. Service was attentive.

Disappointingly quiet, we entered the cozy restaurant adorned by newspaper clips, polish coats of arms, and were greeted by our friendly waiter. I had the meat patties ($24) which were delectable. Rich ground beef and pork spiced perfectly and fried with an accompanying gravy. Rich, but not greasy. My wife had the chicken schnitzel ($30) which was good but not groundbreaking, and the kids a number of perogis ($25) I found excellent. Accompanying the two adult meals was soup (a delectable tomato and a surprisingly sour savory pickle) and salad. We concluded with a delicious strawberry jam crepe ($15, see photo). The soup and meat paddies were the strongest entries on the menu that evening. The service was warm and genuine, taking our order, giving recommendations, communicating in polish as per our preference, and the restaurant was cozy and clean. Prices, as listed above, were reasonable considering the accompanying soup and salad. Overall, Polka is a solid restaurant with excellent food and service at a good price. Delicious, hearty, and with a cozy atmosphere it is perfect for a date or small family looking for a genuine taste of Eastern Europe. Food: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 4.5/5 Value: 4/5
