By far one of the best dry cleaning spots in San Diego, 5th Ave Cleaners is fantastic. They actually answer the phone, which is rare these days, and they consistently deliver on their services. If you're in the area and need reliable dry cleaning or laundry help, this place is super convenient and dependable. The customer service is excellent friendly, responsive, and professional every time. The cost can be on the higher end, but it's definitely worth every penny or nowadays, every nickel for the quality and reliability you get. Parking can sometimes be a bit of a challenge, but it's not enough to take away from the overall experience. For emergency overnight dry cleaning situations, this place is a true lifesaver. I really try to never leave a negative review even if I am having a negative experience, because sometimes things just happen, or someone is just having a bad day. In this situation though, I unfortunately believe that a negative review is fully warranted. I have been going to fifth Avenue cleaners for years and used their fluff and fold services as well as the dry cleaning services more times than I can count. I never had an issue until today. I have a wool blanket that I have had dry cleaned there before. Since the blanket is wool and it is an expensive blanket, I get it dry cleaned instead of trying to put it in the washer and dryer because I know that that will ruin the blanket. This blanket got a stain on it - as well as cat hair. I brought it in to get it dry cleaned- and they literally told me that they could not dry cleaned the blanket and I would have to get the stain out myself before they even tried. Isn't that why you bring something to dry cleaning? To get something professionally cleaned, especially if there is a stain? I would have totally understood if the stain did not come out completely, but to say that I would have to get the stain out myself and then bring it to them afterwards made absolutely zero sense. And to be clear, I was not misunderstanding the situation, I was literally instructed to try to remove the stain myself before bringing it in to get dry cleaned. I asked if they had any recommendations of what cleaning products I could use to not ruin the wool, and they said no. Also, this blankets specific washing instructions state that it must be dry cleaned. So that's all I was trying to do! I took it to North Park cleaners, who removed the stain and dry cleaned the blanket for $25 no issue. When I have taken this blanket to Fifth Avenue cleaners in the past, they charged me $60 and that was just to have it cleaned, no stain removal even! I just find it odd that a dry cleaner would tell me that I need to get this stain out myself and then bring it to them to be dry cleaned - and also tell me that they have no idea what product I could possibly even use. read more

Asked them to iron back the fold on my trousers. When I went to pick it up, the work hadn't been done so I asked the old man about it. The old man was very impatient and didn't understand my request, and continued to answer a question I never asked. Also they added a fold that didn't exist before so my trousers are messed up. read more

Be careful when doing business here, both times I did not have a good experience. The first time the lady who helped me was very rude but I let go and thought not everyone here is that way. The 2nd time here I was dropping off a dress to be dry cleaned and I was told I HAD to pay before leaving the dress. The first time I left my item I was told I also had to pay before leaving it. When I went to pick up the dress, I was told it was not paid for and that the receipt I had should've been stapled to the order and that is how they usually do it. The gentleman who was helping me told me I was fine to go, and I received a call today saying I the dress was not paid for and I needed to contact the store. upon calling the store, I was told that I need to send a picture of my bank statement or the receipt that I paid for the dress. I asked why this was needed when I picked up the dress in person. They did not check the receipt when I had it there. The gentleman on the phone told me they DO NOT require payment to leave an item. I do have many items that need alterations - which is a separate entity from the dry cleaners. Although it is housed in the location. For the most part I see they have a lot of business. The staff is always pleasant. The venue is always orderly. As far as pricing goes I couldn't really tell you - I do not have many items that required dry cleaning. Not sure how the alterations got such a bad reputation. Not sure if it's a different lady from the other reviews, but the main one Laura is awesome. I hands down go here for my alteration needs. As someone who sews but doesn't have the time find pricing fair for the quality & expediency of the turn around time. Plus the dry cleaners press it to perfection. I took in my mattress topper for dry cleaning and they completely ruined it. They gave it back to me lumpy and it had clearly shrunk. There are also some holes that weren't there when I brought it in. I've been bringing my garments to 5th Avenue Cleaners for the past two years, but unfortunately after this experience I will not be back. Last week I brought in a dress that I will be wearing to a wedding for alternations. I had the hem shortened and some fabric on the sides taken in. When I got the dress back, the waist area is now bunching from the way seamstress took in the sides. I didn't feel great when I left the dress because I felt as though she was rushing when we were taking the measurements, even though I was the only customer in the shop. This review is for alterations only! 3 months ago I took 3 pairs of trousers to be turned up. The seamstress was very cold and didn't even say hello as I waited for her to stop sewing and look up at me. She was reluctant to look at me or discuss what I wanted so I ended up telling her what I wanted and explaining in detail. When I took the garments home, the hemming wasn't even level on one of the legs I was so annoyed, I didn't take it back which I regret. More recently I had more alterations to do and went back only to see the same lady doing the same thing and ignoring me even after I said Hello loudly. She likes to ignore people I don't know what here problem was but if she's not happy there she should move on and let someone else in who needs the job. On one of my garments she hemmed with the wrong colour thread I couldn't believe it!, It looked awful and stood out. I turned the corner and went straight back to her, only to be ignored so I stood in front of her getting irrate until Lily stepped in ,saw the problem and helped me get it corrected. This place was ok. I asked to get my wife's wedding dress which is a really a small thin one and was quoted 53$ and would be don't in two days. I needed it in 3. I go same day I was quoted and dropped it off. I come back the day it's due and they hadn't even started on it. It was still on the floor where the owner had left it the day I dropped it off. (Also the lady on the phone when I would call and see the status of it was very rude I forgot her name. ) I was told it would be done the day of I needed it and it was. The same lady on the phone was the same one that had me pay at the end and was surprised the owner charged me 53$ when it was supposed to be much more I can't remember exactly how much. Regardless she charged me the 53$ and didn't even apologize for what happened. Would not go back. read more

What a terrible experience! It should have been a red flag, when the guy at the register was talking so low and mumbling to the point I could not understand what he was saying. Where my experience gets awful was the pick up. I told them upon drop off I wanted: 1 shirt (that was new)- pressed and folded 3 shirts-dry cleaned and pressed and folded So I'm picking up my shirts two days later, and even thought I have my ticket, the owner can not locate any of my things. This goes in for ten minutes. Finally, he finds the shirts, and as you can imagine, my shirts come on hangers. I proceeded to tell them that was not what I ordered and asked if they could fold them for me. The owner agrees and tells me they will be ready by the end of the day. The next morning rolls around, and I go out of my way again to pick up my shirts. They are folded and looking "Ok". The original guy who helped me was back again, and he rang up a ticket that was 10$ more expensive. I was not happy when I saw this due to the fact that they messed up the first time, and I had to come back. Long story short, the owner was completely rude, and told me he didn't have time to argue with me, and walked away. This was completely unprofessional, and due to it being my first time using these guys, I will not go back. Too bad! read more

When I asked to speak with you one store told me you were at another location, I called that store and they said you were out of town. In addition I was interrogated by your staff stating my short came in this way. When I said no I still have the tags I tore off when I dropped it off I was asked "why the hell would I dry clean a new shirt?". I came here on a Saturday morning, during their alterations posted hours from their website. I was told that no, despite what the website says, the seamstress does not work on Saturdays. The older man who I spoke to however, was kind enough to call in someone to pin my dress for me, and the seamstress would get to it when she returned Monday (apparently she only stays until 3ish during the week, and I work out of the city, so it's hard to get down in time before she leaves) I had a dress which needed to be taken in a little bit, and have the straps sewn into place. I had about 2 weeks for the alterations to be complete, and was told they'd have it done the next day if I needed it. I was given the date of the following Thursday, before 5PM, so I could see the seamstress if need be. Arrived around 330 (left work early for this) but my dress was not ready. I had to leave work early again the following Monday to pick it up. When I got there, the dress was ready, but on a different hanger (I use specific hangers for my garments as to not damage my items), and asked the young man where my hanger was. He shrugged, looked around, and shrugged. I asked what happened, was it thrown away or something? He just walked away from me after I paid and ignored my questions. I found this behavior VERY rude, they had lost or disposed of my personal property and did not care, at all. I get my dress home to try it on, and while the alterations that were performed were done well, and fit, they did not sew my straps in place. The tickets clearly states to sew the straps, the straps were pinned and everything, they just DID NOT complete my garment, despite me paying for it. Being so close to the event, and not being able to get there before the seamstress is sent home, I have to figure out something else in order to either make the dress work, or find a new dress in such a time crunch. I'm very disappointed because the man I originally dealt with was very kind and considerate, but then anyone else I dealt with was very rude, or did not complete their work. I have tried reaching out via email and FB messenger (complete with photos), which I can see they have read my messages, but are ignoring me. I will not be returning to give them any business, and due to their ignoring me, I have to now file a claim with my bank to have the funds returned. read more

I needed a dress for my Niece's Wedding but after shopping at several stores, it was frustrating to not find anything. I had a few long dresses I had for cruises, Captain's dinners. I thought maybe one of them would work if I had it shortened and wanted it hemmed "higher in front and lower in back." Laura did a great job and steam-pressed it. It looks like a new, more on-trend style. She had it done in one week, even though I had 3 1/2 weeks before leaving for the wedding. The cost was $40 but it was two layers of a rolled hem which is very time consuming and not easy to do. I never thought I'd get anything I owned dry cleaned until my taste in clothing began to change! Luckily 5th Avenue Cleaners is here to help me with that! They've been my go to cleaners for a while and their excellent location makes them easy to reach from both home and work. Last week I dropped off a dress I had picked up from a vintage resale shop and the alterations lady was fantastic about pinning it up faster than I could put it on! Upon Saturday's pickup it was perfect and also cleaned for me! Just today I stopped in with a very great find of True Religion Brand Jeans I found at a resale shop for $24! The same sweet alterations lady hemmed them and repaired my zipper for me and had them ready before closing time! I was so excited with her quick fix and that I could wear my new jeans this weekend! She did an excellent job on them and even made the stitching at the bottom of my jeans match the original designer hemline style. Bravo! All of the staff in here is incredibly nice and they really work hard to make your clothes come out fantastic. Love them! read more

REVIEW FOR TAILORING: I'm so excited for the opportunity to tell you how horrible this business is. I brought a velour tracksuit here to have the hem taken up on the pants. Brand new, tags still on it, cost me well over $100 (I know, what am I doing spending that kind of money on a tracksuit, shut your mouth). First, she made one leg shorter than the other. I mean, so badly done and unprofessional that when you just held the pants in your hands, and smoothed the legs out together, you could see one was a full inch shorter. How that passed muster to hand to the customer is beyond me. Then she offered to give it another shot. So she takes down what she's done and tries to match the legs and make the short one a little longer. Now the hem is all wonky, but I'm hoping that at least it will be long enough for me to wear. She did manage to get the hem to come down a bit, but I still looked like I was wearing high-waters in flip flops. I should have had her fix it a third time, to capris. But I was too horrified with the work. When I complained, she blamed the fabric. Like this is such a tough fabric to hem I should have known better. Obviously the manufacturer had no trouble stitching this fabric. I tried to leave without paying for it and she threatened to call the cops on me. So I bought this tracksuit, and then paid more money to have it ruined. Awesome. Sadly, It's been 1 year and I'm finally donating this hot mess to a thrift store. Maybe a certifiably tiny person will waltz in and find a track suit, for the first time ever, in their size. read more

I used this dry cleaner about 10 times before having several problems over 2 visits. The first issue was regarding a repair. When I went to pick up a sweater that was supposed to be cleaned and repaired, the repair had not been completed. I had to wait for 10 minutes for the lady to sew it. Another time I dropped clothes off, I told the man that I had a coupon that had been emailed to me. He made a note of that on my ticket. When I went to pick up the clothes the tall middle-aged woman that always wears shapeless dresses was on the phone in the back. I patiently waited at the counter for over 3 minutes. Then she came to the front and didn't say "thanks for waiting" or "sorry about that". When she told me the price, it did not include the discount and she was charging me for $8 for a button repair. I didn't ask for a button repair. She told me that the person who helped me previously noted that there were 4 loose buttons. She asked me if I sewed. I don't see what that had to do with anything. She wouldn't let me take my things without paying for the button repair. She admonished me for not bringing my email regarding the discount when I dropped off my clothes. While I was arguing with her, the phone rang, she did not excuse herself before answering the phone and told the person calling that they shouldn't call during lunch time and to try again later. What a rude, unprofessional person. This place sucks. For an $8 "button repair" this idiot has lost a customer. AWFUL! read more

If you're someone l like me who has business clothes and you go to the dry cleaner regularly, search for another place. If you're just looking to get a few pieces done and don't mind waiting 3 days, then I guess go here if it's convenient. Here's why. I've now been there twice, and chose because of the decent reviews and the convenience on my way home from work. First time I went, I had to pay extra to get it by the end of the day. Okay, that's fine. Then, I get my clothes and one of the pants that I SPECIFICALLY pointed out, no-crease, like I do every time, had a crease. Not too big of a deal, but on my first trip this was disappointing. So I had to go back again to pick it up. Then, today I went, and needed my clothes the following day, and it is still an extra fee! The last place that I loved in PB didn't charge any "rush fees" even if it was the same day. I think that's a bit outrageous, I could understand same day service being a fee, but if I have to pay $0.50 extra per shirt to get them the following day, that's too much. read more

I don't use them often but come wedding season the dry cleaning industry gets a few bucks from me. So how do you build loyalty to a dry cleaner? For me it really boils down to three things. Proximity: 5th Avenue Cleaners is not the closest to me but is certainly the most accessible. There always seems to be plenty of parking (metered) and it is easily located and visible from the street. Turn-around: I have never come here in a bind so I am not sure if they can pull off same day but I have brought items in here on Wednesday afternoons for a mid-day Friday pick-up and it has never been a problem. Price: Not the cheapest but it isn't expensive either. I paid $10.10 for a pair of pants and a shirt to be cleaned and pressed. I've had cheaper but we aint nicklin' and dimin' here. BONUS ROUND!: Help yourself to a butterscotch candy by the door and a complementary cold bottle of water from the fridge next to the front door! read more

I just tried 5th Ave Cleaners for the first time this week after finding their coupon for 20% on Yelp. Since I haven't been to a dry cleaners in a while I had quite a pile of clothes--18 pieces of skirts, coats, sweaters, shirts, etc. The total, with discount, came to $71.40 and they were supposed to be ready in a few days. I got a call before that though about a shirt they tested and found out it would bleed and therefor should no be dry cleaned (despite what the tag said). They gave me detailed instructions on how to hand wash it and the cost was deducted from my invoice. The also discovered that a dress they billed as 'long' was really 'short' and credited my invoice for that as well. The place was clean, my clothes look good, and the staff is honest. I went there with 2 pairs of pants, 3 blouses and a suit and it was $28.00 with the 20% coupon. It was a 2 day turn around and my clothes looked great. Everyone there was very nice and I liked that you can see everything that they are doing. They are also GREEN certified so I like them even more now. On their website they have coupons so that you can get the 20% off on any day but if you don't have access to a printer or just forget it you can go on ANY Tuesday and get the 20% off. The location is great and there is plenty of parking. This is my new place to go. Its nice to have a cleaners you can trust. read more

This place is a lifesaver. Totally amazing. The story: The night before an event, I realized there was a hole torn through my black cashmere sweater! I had planned out my whole outfit and without the sweater, it was ruined. :( I freaked out and rushed to 5th Ave Cleaners in the morning and they had it mended and ready in just a few hours. I don't normally like to complain but I felt others should know to avoid this dry cleaners. I've had two major incidents. The first was when they lost my dry cleaning (about six pieces of clothing). Turns out they gave it to the wrong person and it went missing for over three weeks. When they finally tracked down my clothes, they had the nerve to charge me to which I refused. And there was no apology. A few months went by and I decided to give them another chance. The second incident happened today when I went to pick up my winter coat. I came home to find they gave me the wrong coat! I called and it took them awhile to locate it and once they found it I went down to exchange it. No apologies. No refund. No customer service. I must have tried five or so before finally settling on 5th Avenue Cleaners. 5th Avenue Cleaners is everything that's right about a business. It's family-owned - I think the owner's name is Armand. He's super nice. He's always polite and grateful for your business. They offer 20 percent off if you drop your clothes off on Tuesdays but my lazy self can never seem to get there then so when I went on a Saturday, he gave me 20 percent off just the same. Very cool. The location is very convenient - it's a good-sized shop on 5th with lots of available street parking. Prices are OK. Sure, there's cheaper dry cleaning elsewhere but I trust that my goods will come back in better condition than before when I take them here. And turnaround is pretty quick, too. They also sewed two of my buttons back on a very beloved coat so boo ya - one-stop shop! I love this place. read more

I was referred to her by White Flower Bridal boutique and had a dress for my courthouse wedding that needed some alterations. She did an amazing job. Called them late on a Tuesday to inquire about getting a dress altered and ready in about 4 days. I told them what I wanted done and when I needed it by. They said that they could get it done by Saturday and that I should come in on Wednesday and the seamstress would be in from 9 to 3:30pm. I went there on Wednesday morning and was seen right away. Hello, as I was driving downtown San Diego looking for any alterations place I was so lucky to found one inside the 5th ave cleaners when I was looking for a "hole in the wall" type of place I had found a great alterations seamstress Lety to fix my "raggedy jacket" while I waited for it since I had no idea that it was going to rain again that day, not only she was fast and professional but she' have made the jacket look like new again and kind of fussed a new lining in it!! for a great 29 bucks can't be more satisfied than that, Thank you so much for the great job you did on my old jacket lining!!! read more
