I stumbled upon Almaya by chance after a quick thrift run nearby. I've passed the food hall before but never stopped in--until today, when curiosity got the best of me. Out of the variety of food options, Almaya immediately stood out. I asked what was popular, and the lovely host recommended the Shawarma Chicken. However, I had already spotted the Salmon Burrito on Yelp, and it looked too good to pass up. I took a chance--and I'm so glad I did. While waiting, I chatted with the host, who shared that the restaurant has only been open for three months and is a family-run business. I always love supporting family-owned spots, and I had a feeling this was going to be special--and I was right. The Salmon Burrito was phenomenal. Flavorful, fresh, and satisfying without being heavy. No exaggeration--it was one of the best meals I've had in a while. I am absolutely amazed. I'm in love with Mediterranean food, so I've gotten it from various cities, even as far as Riverside. I always get the same dish: Chicken Kabab plate. This, so far, has been the BEST I have ever had. Their food is packed with savory greatness, and not at all too intense. The chicken was so moist and soft. It wasn't at all dry. I was impressed! The rice accompanied the chicken so well. I usually ask for garlic sauce because I'm addicted to it, but everything on my plate was already so good that I completely forgot about it! I'm a little picky when it comes to the hummus, because I love it so much, but this place does it right. I wasn't too fond of their pita bread, as it tastes more like a funnel cake to me, but it was still good for a few bites! Their salsas were AMAZING. They definitely were more Mexican style, but the flavors went perfectly with the chicken and rice. All in all, the person who put this menu together knew exactly what they were doing, and the chefs followed that up beautifully.
