My husband and I usually have our go to Lebanese spot that we love, so we honestly weren't expecting to find somewhere that could top it. We decided to switch things up and try Skaf's On York, and wow, we are so glad we did because this is officially our new favorite! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The falafel was hands down the best we've ever had. They were perfectly crispy on the outside, flavorful, and so tender on the inside. The hummus was also incredible, so creamy and smooth with just the right amount of flavor. The chicken was juicy, well seasoned, and had that perfect grilled char, and the rice was delicious. Even the cabbage salad was fresh, crunchy, and a perfect compliment to everything else. And the portions are HUGE. We were genuinely surprised by how much food we received. Everything was packed so generously, and they even gave us a whole pack of pita, which was such a nice touch. We had more than enough food for and plenty left over to enjoy later. You can really tell they care about the quality of their food and the portions they give their customers. Skaf's On York absolutely knocked it out of the park. We went in thinking we were just trying something different from our usual spot, and we came out with a new favorite. Because I was familiar with the Skaf's restaurant located in Glendale, I was curious how Skaf's on York would compare. I've visited twice for lunch, and both times I had great meals! I've tried both the regular and classic versions of the chicken shawarma wraps and liked them both. The classic style comes with fries on the inside of the wrap, and I thought the chicken was flavorful and not dry. The service was friendly, but during my second visit the staff seemed overextended given the number of tables they had to cover; this may have led to the error in getting the wrong side with my meal but they were quick to correct it once I brought it to their attention. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and overall I thought it was a great spot to have a casual meal. read more

I am mad that I never drove far enough down York to discover this place and only discovered it after it was suggested for a lunch meetup. I needed this place in my life sooner! Let's start with the drink....I'm not a fan of anything rose flavored or scented so I wanted to make sure the rose flavor wasn't too strong in the Jallab. Since I was told the rose flavor is pretty prominent, it was suggested I do the Jallab with lemonade. What a perfect selection! I didn't pick up any rose flavor and the drink was so pretty. This is a refreshing alternative if you don't want to go with a soda. I already had my heart set on the appetizers and fortunately the other person was on board with the same choices. For dippers, I always go with a yogurt and cucumber appetizer and the Babaghanouj did not disappoint. These sides came with three pieces of pita bread. Neither side was overly garlicky and paired well with my entree. If you love cheese borek like I do, get you some cheese rolls. My only regret is only getting one. The cheese rolls were perfectly flavored and not overly salty. Now for the entree...I already had my eye on three meats so the waitress said to go with The Your Way Plate, which came with a kafta and tenderloin skewer. I also added a lamb skewer on the side. Both my lamb and tenderloin skewer were cooked medium and they were perfect. Lamb is one of those dishes that can be a hit or miss because if it's not cooked right, it will be chewy - mine was perfect! And, the spices they use to cook the lamb in will have you trying to pick up every last drop of juice with your pieces of meat. No complaints with the kafta either. I chose rice as my side because I love me the carbs. We went on a weekday for lunch and parking was easy enough to find on a side street. The staff was friendly and there was indoor and outdoor seating options. This place gets a yummy in my tummy rating and I will be back sooner rather than later. read more

I've eaten at Skaf's On York about four times now, and it's easily become one of my favorite neighborhood spots whenever I'm craving Lebanese food. My go-to order is the lamb kebab plate with half rice and half cabbage salad. The lamb is always cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and incredibly flavorful (I usually order it medium well). The rice is delicious, but I especially love the cabbage salad, which is tossed in a bright, refreshing mix of lemon juice, olive oil, and garlic. It's the perfect balance to the rich, savory lamb, and the meal always leaves me feeling satisfied without being overly heavy. The restaurant has very limited indoor seating, so if you can, I'd recommend dining in. This is one of those meals that's best enjoyed fresh and piping hot. I like taking my time cutting the lamb into bite-sized pieces and savoring every bite. If you're planning to order takeout instead, I'd suggest the combo plate with the chicken, tenderloin, and ground beef skewers, also with half rice and half cabbage salad. Those meats are softer and easier to enjoy on the go, especially if you're eating shortly after picking it up. And don't skip the garlic sauce--it is absolutely delicious and takes everything to the next level. I've been here a few times before and always enjoyed it - great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, my experience tonight was so frustrating. ​I placed an online order directly through their website for dinner (two chicken shawarma wraps, a falafel appetizer, and dolma). When I arrived for pickup, there was some back-and-forth at the front counter before the employee admitted she had given my order away to someone else. It's incredibly annoying because this could have been completely avoided if they had just verified the name or order ID before handing it off. ​To make things worse, when we asked them to remake it, they told us they were completely out of chicken shawarma anyway. They initially offered to give us a similar meal and a single free side, but after already wasting our time, that didn't feel like a fair solution, so we asked to cancel. Only after we were visibly annoyed did they offer to comp the whole meal, but by that point, we just wanted to leave. ​To their credit, they did try to make it right by giving us a $40 credit, which I appreciate. Came here randomly and am absolutely glad I did. Parking is street parking only. They have seating inside as well as outside for to go orders. The worker here was super nice and explained their items to me since I have never been! I ended up getting the chicken shawarma plate with the cabbage and rice. Finally got to try Skafs and it's safe to say I'm hooked! Despite trying an array of Mediterranean food, I've always felt shorted with the food and pricing. Skafs has that hard to find balance of quality, flavorful, food and reasonable pricing. Food- the spicy garlic potatoes are crispy and filling this was my groups favorite appetizer 5/5. The cheese roll is amazing and my personal favorite 5/5. The lentil soup is so so so delicious, I'm always in search of a good soup (bonus points that it's vegan), the falafel wrap was the only dish that left me wanting for a little more. This is such a great spot in Eagle Rock. A mom and pop type place with a warm vibe and kind of a playful retro feel inside. There's a few tables, great for an intimate meal rather than a group setting but it's comfy and cute. We got a lot of items and every one of them was packed with flavor. The chicken kabob skewer was especially juicy and delicious and I wish I ordered more. The only thing I would say is it was quite loud inside due to acoustics and upbeat music playing so I would advise anyone with noise sensitivities to think carefully about possibly dining here. Parking is also pretty difficult around the area, so leave plenty of time to park beforehand for nearby street parking (there's no lot). But still, I'd definitely come back for takeout to try more of their menu next time, it appears to be slightly different in what items you can order at dinner. Excited for more next time! read more

I decided to check out Skaf's on York since I was in the area and I was blown away! It's on a busy street, so street parking is a bit limited in front and in the residential area. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with a warm and inviting home-style setting. It's like you're invited to a cozy dinner party. They have both indoor and outdoor seating available, but the indoor area is a bit chilly. There aren't many tables indoors or outdoors. We were quickly greeted by Joshua, who offered us indoor or outdoor dining. We chose indoor, and they gave us menus, answered a few questions, and gave us some time to look over the options. There was one group at a table indoors and a couple of parties outside eating. The place fills up quickly, so it's best to come early or maybe even order out. We received our appetizers, which were delicious. Our main courses came out, and they were even better. The food was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Even though it was busy, Joshua still made sure we had everything we needed. An additional waiter showed up while we were dining, and the entire staff seemed to have a great vibe with each other. The service and food were both excellent. We didn't feel rushed at all, and we really enjoyed our lunch. The music they played was also great. We ordered stuffed jallab, grape leaves, babaganoush, fried cauliflower, and the tenderloin and chicken kabobs. It was all SO good. We let the waiter know it was our first time trying Lebanese food and he went through the whole menu with us, which was extremely helpful. I love rose flavored drinks and desserts, so I was excited to try the jallab recommended by the waiter; it's now probably in the top 5 drinks I've ever had. The grape leaves and babaganoush were a must for us, since we wanted to try dishes that were different from what we have tried before. The grape leaves were herby and hearty, and the babaganoush was flavorful without the tang of a hummus, which I enjoyed. The fried cauliflower was crispy and hot with a creamy sauce that paired well. We liked the tenderloin kabobs a bit more than the chicken since it was juicer and more flavored. The interior is bright and airy, complimenting the hot afternoon perfectly. There was unfortunately no dedicated parking lot but there is street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. I love this place! My go to for Mediterranean food. They have great customer service. Yesterday their app wouldn't let me order the cabbage salad, which is my absolute favorite, without a protein. So I went ahead and added the grilled chicken to the order and sent them a message on the app letting them know it wasn't working properly. They called me back to let me know they got the message and how they were going to rectify the order. And ended up giving me cash back for making up the difference, even though they actually added the chicken anyway. Not sure how that all happened, but the fact that they actually called and paid attention is an example of the good customer service they provide. read more

I don't know how anyone could rate Skaf's on York any less than five stars--everything was sensational. If you love shawarma, you have to try the mixed shawarma plate. It was so fresh, tender, and flavorful. We paired it with smooth garlic and tahini sauces, and we couldn't stop savagely scooping up each bite. The rice, cabbage salad, and pita were incredibly fresh and delicious. The service was top-notch. Daniel and his team were friendly, welcoming, caring, attentive, and eager to please. They take great pride in their work, and the food and service reflect that pride. The setup is smaller, cozy, clean, and comfortable. Most of their business seems to come from to-go orders. But I'd advise dining there if you can get a table. We will absolutely come back next time we're in the area. This is, without a doubt, a 5-star spot. read more

We arrived around 6pm on a Friday night and were seated quickly. The service was friendly and prompt. However, I'm docking points for two reasons. First, the falafel was basically scorching hot shrapnel. It was unbelievably sharp, and disappointingly crumbly. Second, I am not a fan of being upsold without disclosing that it costs extra. Garlic sauce should not be $1.50. Adding broken bits of baklava to a dessert should not cost an extra $2. If it goes so well with it, shouldn't it come with it in the first place? Easily the best thing that I had, and I would go back just to order this. Kefta Kabob - I usually judge a kebab place on their kefta/lula and this one was pretty good. Seasoned nicely but when I went it was a tad overdone. Not a problem, however. Shish Tawook - I always appreciate when a chicken breast is juicy. Again, seasoning on point.
