Fried Cauliflower Wrap
Aishika S.

Fireeee. So glad I randomly found this place. My friend and I loved what we got. The Beirut Palmer drink, the hummus, and the cauliflower wrap. The service was fast and our waitress was nice! The restaurant itself is so cute and homey feeling inside. Will deffff come back.

What a fantastic, family owned spot in highland park. It's small but has a cozy vibe, great service, and incredible food. We had a "family style" dinner where we ordered some dips, apps, and 2 main dishes to share. Portions were great and food was fresh, herby, and super tasty!!

Came here randomly and am absolutely glad I did. Parking is street parking only. They have seating inside as well as outside for to go orders. The worker here was super nice and explained their items to me since I have never been! I ended up getting the chicken shawarma plate with the cabbage and rice. It comes with shawarma sauce as well as the garlic sauce. Chicken was grilled perfect, not fatty at all. Demolished the cabbage and rice as well. Pita came with it as a side no extra cost, made my own little wraps and ate it! It was so good!

Finally got to try Skafs and it's safe to say I'm hooked! Despite trying an array of Mediterranean food, I've always felt shorted with the food and pricing. Skafs has that hard to find balance of quality, flavorful, food and reasonable pricing. Food- the spicy garlic potatoes are crispy and filling this was my groups favorite appetizer 5/5. The cheese roll is amazing and my personal favorite 5/5. The lentil soup is so so so delicious, I'm always in search of a good soup (bonus points that it's vegan), the falafel wrap was the only dish that left me wanting for a little more. If there was some feta in there, it would be perfect... 4/5.

This is such a great spot in Eagle Rock. A mom and pop type place with a warm vibe and kind of a playful retro feel inside. There's a few tables, great for an intimate meal rather than a group setting but it's comfy and cute. We got a lot of items and every one of them was packed with flavor. The chicken kabob skewer was especially juicy and delicious and I wish I ordered more. The only thing I would say is it was quite loud inside due to acoustics and upbeat music playing so I would advise anyone with noise sensitivities to think carefully about possibly dining here. Parking is also pretty difficult around the area, so leave plenty of time to park beforehand for nearby street parking (there's no lot). But still, I'd definitely come back for takeout to try more of their menu next time, it appears to be slightly different in what items you can order at dinner. Excited for more next time!

I decided to check out Skaf's on York since I was in the area and I was blown away! It's on a busy street, so street parking is a bit limited in front and in the residential area. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with a warm and inviting home-style setting. It's like you're invited to a cozy dinner party. They have both indoor and outdoor seating available, but the indoor area is a bit chilly. There aren't many tables indoors or outdoors. We were quickly greeted by Joshua, who offered us indoor or outdoor dining. We chose indoor, and they gave us menus, answered a few questions, and gave us some time to look over the options. There was one group at a table indoors and a couple of parties outside eating. The place fills up quickly, so it's best to come early or maybe even order out. We received our appetizers, which were delicious. Our main courses came out, and they were even better. The food was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Even though it was busy, Joshua still made sure we had everything we needed. An additional waiter showed up while we were dining, and the entire staff seemed to have a great vibe with each other. The service and food were both excellent. We didn't feel rushed at all, and we really enjoyed our lunch. The music they played was also great. From start to finish, Skaf's on York was great.

Omg this place was amazing! The service is so good, and the food... phenomenal. The waiters are quick to greet you, sit you. The food came out quick, and service always made sure I had water in my cup. Very chill vibes, and beautiful restaurant. So pretty. My new go to.

Chicken, Shawarma wrap!

I love this place! My go to for Mediterranean food. They have great customer service. Yesterday their app wouldn't let me order the cabbage salad, which is my absolute favorite, without a protein. So I went ahead and added the grilled chicken to the order and sent them a message on the app letting them know it wasn't working properly. They called me back to let me know they got the message and how they were going to rectify the order. And ended up giving me cash back for making up the difference, even though they actually added the chicken anyway. Not sure how that all happened, but the fact that they actually called and paid attention is an example of the good customer service they provide.

What an incredible find! I am amazed at how incredible every single plate was, as soon as I had just a bite of the spicy potatoes I knew I would have to return! The lamb kebab was incredible I highly recommend that plate and the potatoes for sure!!! Thank you to the waitstaff who helped us, everyone was so kind! Seating is a bit limited inside so plan to be out with a light jacket!

Shrimp kebab plate with cabbage salad

Wow all the flavors! We got the shrimp kabob plate w/the cabbage salad, the cheese sticks, babaganoush, kefta and sirloin kebab combo and jalab to drink. So much goodness! The waitress was helpful in giving suggestions and service. The store has a hipster vibe but plenty of outside sitting and dog friendly outside.

Trying Lebanese food in Highland Park. Located on York Boulevard near Avenue 49, only street parking available. Excellent service, ask for Vincent, he took great care of us and made some great recommendations! my favorite was the cabbage salad, light and refreshing. Looking forward to coming back and trying other items on the menu.

Mixed Shawarma Plate, Cabbage Salad, Fattoush Salad

Shout out to Daniel, one of the owners, and the team at Skaf's on York for providing a 5-star experience. I don't know how anyone could rate Skaf's on York any less than five stars--everything was sensational. If you love shawarma, you have to try the mixed shawarma plate. It was so fresh, tender, and flavorful. We paired it with smooth garlic and tahini sauces, and we couldn't stop savagely scooping up each bite. The rice, cabbage salad, and pita were incredibly fresh and delicious. The service was top-notch. Daniel and his team were friendly, welcoming, caring, attentive, and eager to please. They take great pride in their work, and the food and service reflect that pride. The setup is smaller, cozy, clean, and comfortable. Most of their business seems to come from to-go orders. But I'd advise dining there if you can get a table. We will absolutely come back next time we're in the area. This is, without a doubt, a 5-star spot.

The place is pretty small and hard to navigate around the seating. The best and our favorite of the three wraps was the tongue wrap. This was seriously outstanding and one of the best I've had. It was juicy, lemony, cooked well and flavorful. After that, things went downhill. The vegetable wrap was greasy, almost slimey, and falling apart. The vegetables were all soggy and there wasn't much flavor. The chicken shawarma panini was the biggest disappointment. This was so salty and had a bad taste like the chicken was rancid. It was dry and just not good at all. On the way out we spoke to the owner and mentioned how salty it was, to which he said he knows about it and people complain about it often. So why isn't there a change? Sadly not a place I would return to

The filling of rice and ground beef is soft. The eggplant is much softer. They are cooked in a tomato sauce and served with a cool creamy yogurt. Babaganouj: This mezze is a roasted eggplant dip. The eggplant is mashed with tahini and lemon juice for a smoky and slightly bitter flavor. It's smooth, creamy, and a bit chunky. Parking: There's a little lot to the side. We arrived midday on a Sunday and we're promptly sat, having been given the option for patio or indoor. We chose the patio, and between the clematis, lantana, and olive trees it is a very lovely setting in which to enjoy a meal. We were promptly brought a bottle of cold water and glasses, and our beverage orders were taken. I had a honey lavender latte with oat milk, and my husband had Lebanese coffee (no milk no sugar.) my latte was fragrant, the perfect temperature, and just the right amount of sweet. The Lebanese coffee was smooth, floral without being perfume, and excellent. We started with the falafel and the batata harra. Both absolutely excellent. For our entrees we selected the shakshuka and the Lebanese egg pie. Both were also excellent. Everything was well cooked, well presented, flavorful without being overwhelmed by any component. We took home a baklava tart, because we simply did not have the ability to eat more at the table. It was tender, moist, not too sweet, the pistachio flavor coming through as nutty and grassy, seriously so good! And it's worth noting, this whole restaurant is gluten free. I would not have realised if I had not known ahead of time. The texture of the pita with the shakshuka was exactly what one would expect, as was the bread of the egg pie. The pastry of the tart was flakey and delicious. And having said all of that, the service is what puts it above and beyond. Everyone was warm and pleasant, and seemed to genuinely appreciate the compliments. Staff seemed like they liked their jobs, which for me is always a good sign.

Their arayes are a must -- it's basically like a lahmajun with two pieces pressed together, and it's insanely good. I usually go all in and order the tabbouleh, babaganoush, a pound of lula kebab, and shish kebab. Honestly, if you're with 2+ people (or even just really hungry), ordering by the pound with sides is way better value than getting individual plates. You get more variety and it just feels like the right way to eat here. Every now and then I'll switch it up and get the liver plate -- it comes with tons of greens and onions, and when you wrap everything in their fresh pita, it's incredible. Not an everyday order, but when you're in the mood for it, it hits. If you dine in, the indoor decor is super nice and really gives that authentic Mediterranean vibe. When a server finally came over, the first thing she said was "Ready? Ready?", no greeting, no welcome, nothing. We were never brought water. I had to ask a busser for it because the server walked past our table multiple times, clearly saw us, and chose to ignore us. The food runner was also rude, he dropped the plates on the table without saying a single word. Throughout the entire meal, no one checked on us. No "How is everything?" No "Do you need anything?" Nothing at all. Meanwhile, we noticed that nearby tables were being greeted, checked on, and treated kindly. When we asked for the check, the server literally threw it on the table without saying a word. The experience was so bad that we decided not to leave a tip; Something we never do, especially since we truly value good service and I personally work in the restaurant industry. I don't know if the treatment had anything to do with how we looked or how we were dressed, but I've never felt so ignored and uncomfortable in a restaurant before. Ambiance (5/5): Although we didn't sit inside, it was super cute, with classy boho vibes. The restroom was clean and well-decorated (although, not gonna lie, I don't know how I felt about the big mirror facing the toilet). The outside patio area was airy, and although right by the street, I didn't find it unpleasant. Service (3/5): It was just so-so. They sat us down quickly, gave us our menus and checked on us maybe twice. It wasn't super busy, but we had to wait to ask for things like extra plates and water for our dog. Food Overall (5/5): Food was delicious. We got the beef shawarma lunch special and got fries for the side (extra charge) and also the chicken shawarma lunch special with the hummus side. Beef Shawarma (4/5): It had a nice toasty flavor, perhaps from the spices, and the pickled veggies really complemented it. My only complaint was that I wish it had a bit more of the white sauce (maybe adding more hummus would have helped). It was also strangely a bit watery, maybe from the veggies. Overall, it was still a yummy wrap. Chicken Shawarma (5/5): The chicken shawarma tasted more balanced to me overall. I don't recall the meat being dry, although I did also slather it with a bit of hummus. I thoroughly enjoyed this wrap. Fries side (5/5): Their fries are made in house and it tastes so fresh. It was crispy on the outside yet still gooey and moist on the inside. I'm not sure if they make their own ketchup too, as it looked clumpier and tasted really fresh too. The kids gobbled this up. Hummus and pita (5/5): It came with a generous amount of both hummus and pita. The hummus was well flavored and blended, and it really complemented everything on the table. The pocket pita bread was not what I had in mind (I'm used to thicker ones), but the kids really loved it overall. Ice cream (4.5/5): We ordered two scoops from the dessert menu. They were both really thick, creamy and almost chewy like liquidized mochi. It was a very interesting texture but nonetheless a nice tasty treat on a hot day. I much preferred the vanilla bean, as the pistachio tasted and looked rather artificial (and I'm a pistachio ice cream lover). This place had so many to-go orders during the afternoon we were there. I can see why. Food is super fresh and tasty. I think we will be back the next time we are visiting.
