After I read the NY times top restaurants 2026 in LA today. I knew I had to try. The Brussels sprouts taco was delicious. The breakfast burrito was perfect. I look forward to trying their other food.... but not until the street repair in front of restaurant is finished.

Amazing! Came here on a rainy day and the hot cup of cafe de olla warmed my body and soul! It was fantastic-- a must order if you come here, along with one of their breakfast burritos! I loved the birria breakfast burrito. Friendly friendly service! I just loved everyone's energy and the vibes of the place.

This place was worth the hype. I think what sets Macheen apart in the breakfast burrito category is the value, each one costing about $15 including tax. Since it is difficult for us to make a trip out there, I ended up getting multiple meat options with plan to freeze portions of them to enjoy later on a rainy day. We tried the birria and pork belly which both were excellent. The birria was juicy but not in a way that made the rest of the burrito soggy. The pork belly was moist with good flavor, reminding me of Cantonese style roast pork (燒肉). Sauce options: I would lean towards the chipotle aioli to complement these meats. The other was a salsa verde which was ok. Easily found street parking. Ample outside seating.

Personally one of my favorite taquerias in Los Angeles that doesn't serve your usual meats and tacos along Sonoratown and Evil Cooks I love their pork belly tacos and their burritos, service it's always very friendly and the ambiance it's very casual

Finally, a breakfast burrito that meets the hype! This burrito was a 10/10. I've never had pork belly in a breakfast burrito, and it was FIRE. They also use Swiss cheese which was also different, but it worked. The green salsa and Chipotle aioli both hit. I'm definitely going back to try the brisket joint. Again, parking is atrocious. So order online and have a passenger hop out and grab the food. Definitely going back.

Everyone keeps saying the burrito is too small but yall this is the perfect size. You won't go feeling too stuffed you leave feeling satisfied. I got the birria burrito because the brisket one was out. I did show up at 12pm so it's kind of late for breakfast. Anyway burrito was a true 10/10 so much flavor and all well balanced. I will becoming back for more! Also the space is cute lots of seating indoor and outdoor and they have a book shelf so you can read for a while after you eat!

*** Los Angeles Times 101 Best Restaurants (2024): #73 *** On my mission to try as many restaurants as possible from the Los Angeles Times 101 Best Restaurants list this year, I ended up at Macheen for lunch this past Saturday around 1pm. While I had read that their breakfast burritos were perhaps the best in Los Angeles, I was more interested in trying their tacos. I'm very happy I did. To eat, I ordered a brisket taco and two birria tacos. The birria tacos were out of this world. While I've had some pretty amazing food lately, Macheen definitely stands out as a favorite. If you're in the area, go ahead and give this place a try!

A bit of a wait at times and parking can be tough, but the breakfast burrito is solid! Love the crunch of the potatoes in this one.

tl;dr you can't miss the well-balanced birria breakfast burrito at this Boyle Height breakfast pop-up, but skip out on the underwhelming pork belly Breakfast in Los Angeles can lean into the extremes, from grab-and-go shakes to hours-long bottomless brunch. But one SoCal staple combines convenience with pleasure -- the breakfast burrito. Breakfast burritos are never more than a stone's throw away across the Greater Los Angeles area, but one highly recommended spot is Macheen, a breakfast-and-lunch pop-up that operates out of the Milpa Grille in Boyle Heights. The cramped shared space sports various shades of beige, from the vinyl floors to the slatted walls. To the right, the menu is framed next to maize-related collages and other mismatched artwork. On the left, a hand-painted community fridge is pressed up against a cluttered bookshelf. Order from the table-clothed pop-up adjacent to the kitchen counter. Outside, weather-worn wood tables are arranged underneath a canopy-covered street-ery, and contemporary R&B plays from crackling speakers. I arrived at the tail end of the lunch service, and nearly all of the outdoor seats were taken. I jumped in the queue for a Birria Breakfast Burrito, and 15 minutes later I was handed a surprisingly heavy styrofoam takeout container. Although the burrito looked small within my large takeout box, it was dense and heavy. The thin-yet-sturdy flour tortilla was filled evenly with crispy tater tots, fluffy and cheesy scrambled eggs, and flavorful but chewy birria. The flavors were rounded out by rich aioli, sweet and spicy salsa roja, and gently chili-forward salsa verde, culminating in a wholly enjoyable breakfast treat. When I spotted Macheen again during their Sunday Smorgasburg pop-up, I was excited for round 2. This time, I opted for the highly recommended Crispy Pork Belly Burrito. While all of the shared ingredients were as enjoyable as remembered, the "crispy" pork would, unfortunately, more aptly be described as "chewy". The breakfast burritos run just over $13 and offer a tasty if not moderately undersized meal. Admittedly, the pork belly was underwhelming, but I still am eager to give Macheen another go -- whether for a repeat birria burrito again or to mix it up with the breakfast tacos.

Macheen is the place to go when you need to recharge or start your day right. Breakfast Burrito: The scrambled eggs are soft and creamy. Combined with the Swiss cheese, they are almost gooey. The tater tots are crispy and drizzled with chipotle aioli. With such a solid base, any protein would taste great. The tender brisket The iced coffee has a nice floral flavor. Dining Area: The small spot has about six small tables inside and the sidewalk patio has a few covered tables. Parking: Street parking is easy to find out front.

Macheen's breakfast burritos are with really good texture and bold flavors. The accompanying burrito specific sauces really complement that specific burrito's flavor profile. You can mix up the sauces but they are specific for a reason like adding spice or cutting the richness of a bite. The service is friendly and good, staff is very knowledgeable about their offerings. The coffee drinks are yummy and the lemonades slap. The outdoor eating spaces is cute and Dog friendly.

I've heard of and had this spot on my list of places to go to for a while because of their breakfast items. Specifically, I wanted to try their breakfast burrito and tacos. This place is a small, chill café that also doubles up as a few other places (collectively a restaurant and a coffee place with different names). When you walk in your greeted with friendly people and service, you order at the counter and wait for your food. I ended up getting a birria (braised beef) breakfast burrito and a pork belly breakfast taco. After the first bite, I knew that the entire burrito experience was going to be amazing lol. So much flavor bursting from that braised beef. The taco was not only aesthetically pleasing, but the flavors and textures were all great. This place really does have great breakfast items. Definitely a spot that should be in your rotation. The neighborhood was pretty busy, but I was able to find street parking nearby.

The first time I went on a weekday in the middle of the day, so it was super empty and not the best because nothing was being made fresh- the meats and potatoes were kind of just sitting in bins so although the flavor was there, the cooled down temperatures really affected the taste. HOWEVER, I visited a few more times after that, these times all late at night, which really turned my experience around. I think at those times there were a lot more people and long lines, so everything was being made fresh and it being hot just made the food taste so so much better. I love how the toppings are all self-serve, and the hot potato is my favorite side. Carne asada, lengua, and al pastor are my go-tos. You'll want to add hellaaa green sauce to everything- I could literally drink that stuff straight. For for first timers, I'd recommend ordering the Villa's Trio which is what I got. Those come with the Ranchera Asada quesotaco as well as the Papas con Chorizo and Black Bean con Pollo quesotacos which are a trio exclusive. All the tacos were meaty, flavorful, and crispy. You honestly don't even need the side sauces since the tacos are already flavorful on their own. Great quality. I also got the Watermelon Agua Fresca which was refreshing, tasty, and sweet. Goes well with the tacos. I also got the Jamaica Agua Fresca, but that one was a bit too tart for my liking. The line can get long, so I would prepare to wait for up to an hour on weekends. There's ample free parking at the grocery store lot nearby. For seating and tables, it's limited and competitive. You just have to get lucky if a spot clears up as soon as you get your food. I also like how the restaurant handles crowd control. They allow a couple of people at a time to go inside, order, and get their condiments. You wait outside until they call you for your food. I like that it didn't feel crowded while I was getting my condiments. I highly recommend this spot and I will definitely be coming back.

Having been to so many taco stands, I think what makes Tire Shop Taqueria really stand out are the right-off-the-grill charcoal-grilled meats, the freshly made tortillas literally in front of you as you are waiting on line, and the free guacamole that comes with each taco. The ordering process is like any other taco stand, though one difference is here the salsas/guacamole are all handled by the staff. If you'd like more of something, just ask them instead of reaching for the ladle yourself. There is a separate area though for grilled onions/peppers and radishes you can serve yourself. I got the asada, chorizo, cabeza, and al pastor, and they were all so good. The asada and chorizo are specifically grilled over charcoal, and that flavor really shines through. I loved how meaty and tender the cabeza was too, and the classic al pastor hit the spot. They have large communal tables setup, so it is a great friendly vibe to enjoy your meal I will say, the surrounding area is not the best in LA, especially given how the taco stand is only open at night. The parking lot is quite small, so I parked on a side street that had some abandoned cars, but of course, if you are in/from LA, this is not that new for us. I would hesitate if I am a tourist though to make it out here. Anyhow, the food really is worth it here, and I can't wait to be back!

We found easy street parking in the neighborhood on 41st Street, and waited in line for about 15-20 minutes. We ordered the asada tacos. They pre-sauce your tacos, which was fine by me, but my boyfriend who can't handle as much spice would've preferred it on the side (so warning for anyone similar! they do put a little habanero on them, so just ask them for salsa on the side). I think I ran into a problem of reading too many raving reviews -- these tacos were good but I was expecting them to be mind blowing, so I was a little disappointed. I tasted the charcoal char, but kind of wished the taste was more pronounced, or at least the meat more seasoned. The hand made tortillas were definitely the coolest part, but I thought they were a little dry too. The ladies whipping those out are artists though. Actually, all the workers here have the assembly line down to the tea, and they definitely add a little flare for a show. I particularly liked how they had a lot of seating at this location, instead of just a couple stools lying around like most taco trucks. It felt more like outdoor patio seating than a normal taco stand. They could probably take more time to wipe down tables more often though. Overall would visit again if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way for the tacos here.

The tacos were loaded with a pretty decent amount of meat and toppings. But sadly we were far from impressed by the flavor. The asada was okay and better than the tripa, but it paled in comparison to our go-to taco trucks in the area which only costs $1. And the tripa was strange to eat in taco form. The tripa is crunchy small pieces so it just feels odd to eat in a taco. Maybe if it was just served as an appetizer to eat by itself, but even then, it kinda just feels like you're eating pellets. Don't see the hype unfortunately.
