We dined as a party of four for an early dinner Saturday. We were seated immediately and drinks were brought out right away (4 waters and 2 soft drinks), which was a great start. After that, the experience slowed down quite a bit. When ordering, the new menu was confusing. Everything is now essentially à la carte -- you order a meat or sandwich and then choose a side at an additional cost. We ordered one 3-meat combo with garlic fries, one 2-meat combo with mac & cheese, a tri-tip sandwich with garlic fries, another sandwich with regular fries, and a large onion ring for the table. There was also confusion about sides. We initially asked for a large garlic fry with the combo and were told it only came with a small side, but also that the side wasn't included in the price. The ordering process felt unclear for both us and the server. Food took about 25 minutes to arrive. During that time, we had to ask multiple staff members for utensils and condiments (BBQ sauce, ketchup, ranch, and Tabasco). We asked three different times before receiving them, and by then the fries were mostly gone. Food quality was mixed. The sandwiches and sides were actually very good, and the tri-tip was flavorful. However, the smoked BBQ meats were very dry and the house BBQ sauce was not appealing. The dining room was also quite cold during our visit. Our total bill was about $200 for four people. At that price point, we expected stronger service and more consistent food quality. The restaurant used to be a favorite when we first moved to Patterson 8 years ago, so this visit was disappointing. After a hot day at the Apricot Fiesta in downtown Patterson, the SO and I wanted to go someplace outside of the festival to avoid festival prices on food. After a quick Yelp search, Almond Wood seemed to be the only sit-down restaurant outside of the festival radius that was open and intriguing to us. It was also highly recommended by a friend and coworker of the SO's. Located right off the I-5 in the same plaza as the Patterson Cafe, Almond Wood looks to be the next new date night spot for locals and pit-stoppers alike. The inside is very open and airy, and their waiting room is unusually large? But it's got giant Connect 4 and foosball to help pass the time. We came on a Saturday afternoon and waited about 20 minutes until we were seated. Upon sitting down, we were met with an extensive menu from BYO (Build Your Own) pasta bowls, to BBQ, to pizza. We ordered: - Green tea w/ passionfruit - super refreshing with a hint of passionfruit, and definitely unsweetened. So if you prefer your tea sweet, I recommend to ask for sugar or pick a different drink. - Crazy spuds - or "Animal fries" per our receipt (I guess to avoid a lawsuit from In-n-Out). Definitely a burger-flavored fry dish and delicious. - 2-Protein combo - we went with the Angus brisket and Angus tri tip with a side of mac n cheese and corn bread. Highly recommend the corn bread and both meats. Mac and cheese is standard, and super tasty still (and huge portion!). We also received all the BBQ sauces they offer: Cali Gold (mustard based. While the staff are very pleasant, there is an issue with consistent quality of food. This was once, one of my favorite places to travel to, and eat while in Patterson. The kitchen team needs a tune up to clearly understand the recipes and the importance of consistency. As an example, the Brussel & Arugula Chips. There's an obvious disconnect in preparation from Chef to Chef/Cook to Cook. I like to use this as an example of success in the Resturant Industry. No matter where you go in the entire world, if you go to a McDonalds you know exactly what you are going to get. If you're in Japan or the UK, Mc Donald's taste the same. Consistency is King in the Resturant industry. That is the only reason Mc Donald's is so attractive with consumers. Humans are creatures of habit. Whether you have one Resturant or thousands you have to be consistent. Now, having said that, I by no means suggest that Mc Donald's is a good place to eat, I'm just trying to emphasize the point, that your entire team should function as a team and be consistent. I should not feel, that I need to call and find out who's cooking to ensure the quality and consistency. Also, stop making short cuts and changing your menu of drinks. There was a horrible stench that hit us upon entering the restaurant. We shared our concerns and the staff was kind and explained what was going on with the building (that they have no control of). Placed a to-go order online. Ordered brisket, burnt ends, chicken thighs, fried pickles, and 3 chicken nuggets and fries kids meals on a night they offer 1/2 priced kids meals. They adjusted the total accordingly and apologized for the inconvenience. I would have paid online prior so I could take advantage of the curbside pickup had the pricing been accurate. Just keep that in mind when ordering online and taking advantage of promotional pricing/offers. Make sure it's accurate. The brisket was delicious. The burnt ends were melt in your mouth tender. The chicken thighs were relatively plain but perfectly cooked. No sauce on them which was actually great. We ended up using the chicken for a recipe the next night since we truly enjoyed the brisket and burnt ends more. Friend pickles were excellent. The sauce it's served with was amazing. Kids meals were good. They ate 'em. Not much more to say. It was chicken nuggets and fries. Hard to mess that up. Lol. My only suggestion is the containers. I'm not a fan of hot items being in plastic containers. Would love to see a simple paper liner on the bottom in between the container and the food. 10/10 recommend though. The service was great and the ambiance is nice, family friendly, gastro-pub vibe. There was strawberry purée / chunks on the bottom that wouldn't mix with the lemonade. Due to this, it tasted more like sugar water with strawberry chunks - Nachos: these weren't that bad.
