Aloha Dental was such a pleasant surprise and experience! Like most people, I dread going to a dental office and having my teeth poked and prodded by sharp objects but from the second I walked through the doors, I felt completely at ease. The waiting room was drastically different from the cold and mundane environment I've come to expect from other dental offices. Reggae music, an old school Donkey Kong game and plenty of room. I was greeted by a friendly receptionist and within a couple of minutes, I was taken back to the examination room for my cavity filling. Dr. Mulgrew and his assistant Kevin were friendly, funny, attentive and engaging! My cavity was filled in less than 30 minutes with no pain. This is now my official dental office! Just came back from my first appointment at Aloha Dental and have nothing but great news! Hate to admit it, but I've still been scared to go to the dentist, even as a grown up- but no more! From making the appointment to walking in the door, the entire staff was extremely friendly and clearly love their jobs. I barely had to wait unlike your typical doctors appointment, and was quickly attended to by my dental hygienist who was a sweetheart. Everything was taken care of thoroughly and I was even able to get a small cavity taken care of without having to schedule another appointment. I just had a filling that was cracked replaced. I HATE going to the dentist, who doesn't right? It was honestly the easiest, painless hour ever! Great office with a sweet legit tabletop arcade machine in the waiting room with all the classics like galaga and Mrs. Pacman. This office is totally Austin. A few of their employees have tattoos and colored hair and they always play great music! Very polite front office and clinical team. I called them at 11:30 telling them I had a broken wisdom tooth and I was home by 2pm. So i used Aloha Dental for a lot of work over the last 12 months , i will say the doctors did great work , but i had a customer service problem after something went wrong and i decided to go to look for a new Dentist . After a few months i was hit with a $700 bill from Aloha which they just pulled out of thin air because i had paid them after every procedure and my Insurance covered the rest . So i went to speak with Aloha and i was handed over to the owner or Boss lady , she asked me why i would not come back and i explained the situation (That i had a bad experience with their customer service ) , so she proceeded to offer me a deal i could not refuse , she said if i cam back she would discount the $700 bill to 200 and during my next appointment i would have cleaning done (which would be covered by my insurance) and i also needed a flipper which she promised i would only pay the lab fee of $70 , i was so happy and i payed the $200 and re-scheduled my next appointment (which was this morning ) . I had my cleaning done and then when it came to preparing the mold for the new flipper i was hit with the bill of $700 , they circled part of the bill that read $230 and said this is what i will pay and to sign here , i was confused and i signed the form , but when i realized that this was not the $70 deal i had made with the boss i immediately stopped the procedure and tore up the form , i went to reception and explained that i had made this deal and that they did not keep their end of the bargain , the lady just sat there and had nothing to say , so i was charged another $55 for the cleaning which they said would be covered by my Insurance , and i will probably receive another shock bill in a few months saying i owe for something else they decide to pull out of thin air . This woman (Owner , Boss ) is a liar and a cheat , the rest of the staff are just doing their job and i have no beef with any of them , but i will never ever use Aloha Dental again , and i will be posting reviews about what has happened to me on as many sites as i can so this will not happen to anybody else . I am a very honest person and i am a very fair person , and i truly believe that when somebody makes a deal that they should keep their end instead of being a sneak and a cheat . If you want to have an honest experience do not use Aloha Dental , they will cheat you out of every penny you work hard for . They are a disgrace to the service that America prides itself on and this Owner/boss lady should be ashamed of herself . This place used to be amazing. Unfortunately it has done a complete 180. I'm thinking another dentist bought the practice because it's like night and day. First off it took TWO HOURS to do my cleaning. Why you might ask? Because I didn't confirm my appointment by text (they had the wrong number) so they double booked. The cleaning was extremely painful. The hygienist just kept saying I'm sorry you should have flossed more. I've never had a cleaning hurt like that. They also forget to press play on their DVDs every time I'm here so you're left watching the menu to some kids movie on repeat. Torture. Then I come back to pick up my retainer which apparently I need an appointment for. After 40 minutes of waiting I finally ask if I can just take my retainer and not be seen. Nope. They finally take me back and it takes all of 5 minutes to make sure it fits. This place used to be aptly named "Aloha" because it was a relaxing and unique experience. Now it's just like every other money making machine out there. You couldn't pay me to go back there. read more

Being the type to not go to dentists because of my overwhelming fear of drills and scrapings it was a relief to find a dental office that catered to my fears. Whit and his crew are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. From the most gentle teeth cleaning to the massaging chairs my experience was nothing short of wonderful. I plan on coming back to get some of my fillings looked at in a couple months and i know i can truly trust my teeth to Aloha dental. Wonderful experience - and I hate going to the dentist! The reception/insurance staff at the front desk is very helpful and up front about costs. The hygienists are all very friendly and gentle. I tried to make an appointment to have my teeth cleaned and advised them that my last set of X-rays is only 8 months old and would be sent over from California. They told me that they needed to take their own set of x-rays, they could not use the previous set taken, and to be a patient of theirs I would HAVE to take a new set of x-rays. I do not want to bombard my head with more unnecessary radiation. It is obvious hey are only wanting to take their own set so they can charge my insurance company for the new X-rays instead of caring about the health and radiation exposure to the patient. read more

Not feeling the island vibe. Went in for a toothache and was given the usual dentist ploy of installing fear and anxiety. I came in for a slight toothache and they cleaned my teeth for $150. Was them told I needed a deep cleaning for $1000. When service people ask your profession it's a good idea not to tell them anything. A chit chatty assistant tries to work her magic by asking a lot of questions that have nothing to do with dental care. And how are you suppost to talk with steel probes in your mouth anyways? All my regular cleanings went very well. Front desk staff was so nice, office was always clean. My negative review is about having a wisdom teeth removal done here involving getting a quote feom Aloha Dental including my dental insurance deductions. I got a quote before setting a date for the procedure-- ~$500. I found this reasonable and set the date. Removal day comes in late March 2015, I pay the quoted total, have my teeth removed and go home. I heal just fine, go in for checkup and am sent on my way. In September 2015, I get a bill from Aloha dental for the amount that I had already paid to them on removal day because Aloha dental said that insurance now won't cover two teeth that were removed, 6 MONTHS PRIOR. I talk to Dawn, the office manager, and she said she would handle it, and that it can take over a year for insurance to accept it. Over a year later, Im still trying to contact Dawn for updates and a collector is now sending a bill notice. Moral of the story: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IF YOU NEED WISDOM TEETH REMOVED. read more

Dr. Mulgrew is a charlatan that pushes scripts and referrals. He told me that a dental bonding was not possible, that the only solution was an invasive and expensive surgery that apparently only his referral knew how to do correctly, and that his word was gold and he spoke for every professional oral doctor in the city if not the country. He then shoved me out the door and forgot about the other half of the appointment. I had to receive the other half after waiting in the reception area for another 10 minutes, at which point he patronized me and pushed me out the door again. I went and got a second opinion from Austin Dental Spa, which completely invalidated his diagnosis. I will be dealing with anyone who is not Mulgrew and his affiliates from now on. Again, Dr. Blake Mulgrew is a snake in the grass charlatan that will treat you like a mark. He is an accomplished narcissist and displays considerable aptitude at manipulating his patients into accepting unnecessary procedures and medicine. Avoid at all costs. read more

Full disclosure, I had not seen a dentist in around 10 years before my visit to Aloha. I would definitely classify myself as having a dental phobia. I was finally persuaded to visit the dentist by a large cavity that ended up needing a crown. My initial cleaning from Zoie was easy, fast and surprisingly almost pain free. She kept me in the loop with everything she was doing. She really helped ease my nerves. The next stop was with Dr Wang. He let me know exactly what my dental issues were and what was needed in order to correct them. I ended up getting a lot of work done, including a temp crown, and several cavities filled the same day. I am grateful Dr. Wang along with James and Kevin(dental assistants) took care of EVERYTHING apart from the finished crown that was being made for me. My follow up visit for the final crown was just as pleasant. The front office was nice and easy to deal with and worked with my insurance to cover almost all the cost. My husband and I both went according to our dental insurance. The man, guess Dr. wHit? Fine, great! My husband, however had a dangerous experience. They to operate on the WRONG side of his mouth. After having periodontal scaling gone, we went in a week later, and they actually Argued With HIm about which side of his mouth had been done the week before. Seriously! I needed to be seen quickly and was given a next-day appointment. Yea! The location and parking were easy and convenient. The office was pleasant, w/ videos of Hawaii and the ocean going in the waiting room. Every single person in the office was helpful and nice - truly put me at ease as much as was possible for this nervous nellie. The dental chairs gently massage your back, which lowered my anxiety over being there. I explained my issues and they listened and respected my wishes. I was given a gentle cleaning with recommendations for possible work in the future - a couple of things to watch and think about and perhaps revisit in 6 months. No heavy sales. Dentist Jumper is very youthful and easy-going, i.e. not like the scary dentists I've been to in the past. He and his staff were very sensitive to my pain tolerance and made sure I was comfortable at all times. The gal that kept the books ran interference w/ my insurance company and thoroughly explained all the financial details - what was my copay amount and why. I found the whole experience to be 5-star. If you've had horrible experiences in the past - this is the place you need to try next. A week later - they said they'd send my digital x-rays, but to date have not done so. I can't tell everyone enough how happy I am that I chose Aloha Dental! Having severe pain this morning they graciously gave me an appointment to come in straight away. I get there and to no fault of the staff there was a mix up with my insurance. The other offices I was told I had to go to by my insurance company would not accommodate me until mid March!! With severe tooth pain! Needless to say I broke down. The whole staff there were so kind and comforting and kept telling me it would be ok and it was! Things got straightened out and I was in the dentists chair and again treated very well. Every step was explained to me and I was asked numerous times if I was doing ok during the extraction down to letting me pick my favorite movie on Netflix! Aloha Dental will now be my place to go! The customer service the front desk at the Riverside location is beyond outstanding! They always greet you with a smile and are more than helpful with any question. Recently my job changed insurance providers so I called to ensure Aloha Dental was in network (they were) with out prompting or having to answer 5 or more questions to verify who I was, Gregory told me that he would update my information as they had all they needed in their system to do so. Literally BEST dentist experience I've ever had- and I've spent my whole life scared of the dentist. Just went in today for a simple teeth cleaning and the staff was extremely friendly, the technician was very mindful of my comfort level, and best of all they didn't shame me and make me feel bad for not coming to a dentist for so many years! It's one thing I typically dread, but I appreciate that they were transparent about the work I needed done but without making me feel bad about it at all. Felt so good that I made an appointment to come back two days later and get my cavities filled. Just completed that and can still vouch that this was a great place to get it done! Pain was minimal and again, dentist was very attentive to any uncomfortableness (and there was barely any). Had my cleaning done here. The office is really nice and clean. The hygienist was a guy and he was gentle and super personable! And, I needed a wisdom tooth extracted and was really nervous about it. Today I truly found out how much Aloha Dental takes care of me when Radio Shack had my vehicle towed away. The office was buzzingly busy but still they gave me a lift all the way to the tow facility and made sure I got my vehicle back. To boot, I gave Dr. Shedeck a little hard time about wanting to get my tooth checked by a periodontist and he worked with me on that even though the periodontist (as he must have known) gave me similar information. And on top of that, the office is extremely knowledgeable about insurance issues like a mouse knowing it's way quickly through a maze. I moved to Austin a couple of years ago, and finally decided to get the family to a dentist! After all my friends recommended dentists who were on the other side of town, or who charged and arm and a leg (we don't have dental insurance), I decided on Aloha based on Yelp! reviews and the office's proximity to our house. What a find! The building is brand new, so the facility is very nice. And everyone from the receptionist to the hygienist to the dentist is so professional and super friendly. My three-year-old daughter saw Dr. Bernal, and I saw Dr. Burns. They were both terrific. Dr. Burns was so lovely and sweet, and didn't try to talk me into a bunch of unnecessary dental work, like so many dentists I've seen. My daughter actually seemed to enjoy herself, getting to watch "Finding Nemo" while being examined, then selecting a couple of toys from the treasure chest. And their discounted rate for those without insurance is so great - and includes teeth whitening gel! I can't say enough good things. The dentists here are the opposite of every dentist I've been to. I hate going to the dentist because they are typically rude and lecture me as if I'm their kid. If I've got cavities I know why they are there, I don't need to listen to you yammer on about flossing while you slice my gums open with your scraper. The dentists here are down to earth, tell it like it is, and don't harass you. They made me regret waiting so long to return to the dentist by being awesome. read more
