However, I got food poisoning all night after eating this. Contacted the store with no response. Would definitely be too scared to try this place again. The portions are as large as they come. Chances are a mini plate is probably enough food for one sitting. I usually always get the mini chicken plate and it's packed with more than enough protein. If you're really up for it then get the full plate but don't say I didn't warn you how much food it is. read more

Wow the food here is delicious! My husband and I ordered the chicken katsu and the chicken combo which has katsu and bbq chicken. I was really impressed by the portions given and the pricing. We really got a lot of food for what we paid. It is definitely worth it. Usually my husband can finish meals in one sitting but this one he had to save for later. The chicken katsu was perfectly breaded and the meat was so tender and cooked just right. Some other Hawaiian bbq places don't portion the breading and the meat correctly and either overcook the chicken which takes away from the chicken katsu. The bbq chicken was cooked perfectly and the meat was so juicy and soft! I loved it and I can't wait to try all their other bbq plates. The macaroni salad was also delicious! I don't usually eat it but I did with this meal! One of the better Hawaiian places I've tried and would recommend over L&L. read more

It's true that my low-carb diet shouldn't make this an issue, but I can't help that I'm an Asian who grew up with a deep appreciation for this main staple. If a restaurant offers rice as a basis of their dishes, then it should be decent rice. It's a major pet peeve of mine when a restaurant's version of rice is rendered inedible. Aloha Hawaiian BBQ may be focused on their BBQ more than anything else, but really? How can simple white rice be so neglected? I have a feeling most people end up tossing their heaping portions of rice away because it was too dry and hard to swallow. The only way to salvage it was to bring it home, add more water and cook it some more. Can't do that for the musubi though -- that was a lost cause. The staff was super friendly and efficient, the space clean and well-lit, and the prices are very reasonable; however, the food--although generous--is not a draw for me. Besides, I rarely ever eat Hawaiian food because sweet+salty flavors like teriyaki or sukiyaki are not my thing. If I ever do have it again, L&L would be a better choice. read more

Wow ! Completely surprised to open the container and see what seemed to be a triple serving of teriyaki chicken. Had to double check the receipt - yep just $10.99. Super delicious. Plus tasty layer of soft cabbage. Posting pics, showing half finished order which had 3 slabs of chicken almost as big as a rack of ribs. Would feed 3 pretty hungry adults lol. Note to owners - while you certainly want to continue to support your loyal local customers by keeping prices low, if you ever get desperate to survive I'd pay $8 for a single slab, $14 for 2, and $19 for 3...Great stuff! read more

In all honest i typically love this spot but the food i got here tonight was not okay. I live a quarter of a mile away and got home my food was cold. The rice was more of a mush/ mash than it was rice, almost like it was cooked for to long and (I couldn't eat it mash rice is not good) . In all honestly they gave me half a scoop of macaroni salad -_-... I go here all the time the food is typically way better than this... But if this is what y'all about to start giving lDK . I would say check your food before you leave. The person who made my plate know you wrong for that... However after i warmed up the chicken and veggies they were could. Place is very clean and nice obviously because it's new.. there was this guy kept cleaning and sweeping which was nice to see that! Ordered 1 plate for the 2 of us and we still couldn't finish it!! This is my go to spot for Hawaiian food when I work in Garden Grove office. I eat here at least once a month. To be honest the food isn't any different in flavor when compared to other places I have been. Don't get me wrong it is delicious but what separates this spot from everyone else is the huge portions they serve! I love their chicken katsu and Mac salad. The bbq chicken is also excellent . The rice is also very good but I'm Asian and eat lots of rice so to me it's played out. This spot has me coming back for more. The price is very reasonable. read more

Really solid place in Garden Grove for Hawaiian BBQ. They give really big portions so they're perfect for sharing. The chicken is crispy and moist, not cold and dry. Been here several times and it's been decent enough for me to come back. However, today I came in and ordered an order of musubi and a side of mac salad. I ate about 1/4 of the mac salad, sat it down for a minute or so, and about 15 minutes after eating the mac salad I was overcome with nausea and piercing stomach pains. The mac salad was OLD AND SMELLED SOUR. It's been about an hour and I still feel horribly sick and even had to pull over to throw up on the side of the road. Unacceptable. read more

I usually go to the Aloha adjacent to South Coast Plaza and decided to go to this one as it was closer. Big mistake. Rice n Mac - rice was average but Mac was perfect with mayo to macaroni ratio. Katsu sauce - it was sweet n thick, how I like it - not bland n watery. Was looking forward to trying this place since we travel to Hawaii a lot and wanted to see if there were other good local places like The Loft. I agree with other reviewers in that they give you huge portions. But for me the food we had was just average. We ordered the chicken combination (Hawaiian chicken and chicken Katsu), and Kahlua pork. The chicken was kinda chewy and we could tell from the taste and texture that they did not remove much of the fat before cooking. The katsu coating was nice and crunchy, but you could tell they cooked it in old oil as it was kinda dark brown versus golden brown. The kahlua pork did not taste like island style kahlua that is juicy, tender, and with a hint of smoke. You could taste the smoke but the meat was a little on the dry side and not flavorful enough for our tastes. Others may like it like this. FYI - one of their combos could feed 4 people.
