    Their amazing hot salsa!
    Victoria B.

Oh my goodness! So glad that Aloha Salsa Co is now at the Wednesday night market in Kakaako. My friend and I went to the market solely for Honey Slush after our workout, but the delicious smell in the air led us to Aloha Salsa Co. I've lived here for almost 4yrs, coming from SoCal & my husband from TX, so we have always been on the hunt for amazing tacos/burritos/anything Mexican. My husband is deployed, so he didn't get to try this company's salsa or food before he left, but I'm so glad I did. I've had a lotta tacos and salsa on island, but these shrimp tacos were the best I've had while living here - the shrimp are big and cooked perfectly. Their salsa is equally amazing and so fresh. So good that I bought another 3 tacos -- no shame. Mike and Fabio are awesome! Their food and salsas pack a lotta flavor. I'm already thinking about getting these again next Wednesday. Thanks guys!!

HUGE breakfast burrito from the kailua farmers market on Sunday.

Great find at the Kailua Farmers Market on Sunday's. It's a bad idea to go food shopping while hungry because you'll end up buying everything your nose smells. Haha When I saw their sign that said breakfast burritos, my heart skipped a beat. I love me some burritos and boy was this one well worth it. On the griddle behind, I could see them heating up some tortillas along with what looked like fried rice full of Portuguese sausage. When the gentlemen asked if I wanted it cut in half, I said sure... easier to eat maybe? I luckily, didn't have to wait too long as they were preparing for a rush and wanted to get ahead. So right when I ordered mine, one was getting off of the grill. Nice! When he handed me the plate, I understood why he asked if I wanted it cut. This buggah was massive!!!! It weighed like a newborn infant. Hahha. I decided to hold off on eating it until I got home to kaneohe. We walked around for a little more but to my surprise, the burrito was still hot by the time I could eat it! It was perfectly wrapped and fully stuffed to the edges. It takes some made skills to be able to stuff and close a burrito like this. I'm pretty sure they place the edge on the grill to seal it a bit but it was great! Inside it was filled with fried rice and big chunks of sausage. There was a fried medium egg in the middle, some type of aioli, perhaps a chipotle one? And also a hashbrown! That was a pleasant surprise. I don't think there was any cheese inside but I could be wrong. Maybe I just couldn't see it. I was extremely hungry and like to think I'm a pretty good eater. But I could only finish half of this bad boy. Very filling and full of good stuff. Would've been nice if it came with a side of salsa though!

Aloha Salsa Co. is all about the freshness that is so lacking in store bought salsas. Came across their tent at the Pearlridge Farmer's market on Saturday mornings. Apparently they also are at the Kailua farmers market and are going to be at the art and flea at South Shore marketplace every 2nd friday of the month. They have over 7 flavors of salsa to choose from. My favorite is the pineapple habanero. Such a balance of heat and sweetness. Their garden salsas range in heat level from mild to hot! I also surprisingly liked their blueberry basil salsa. Yes, you read right, BLUEBERRIES in a salsa! Very tasty with a beautiful deep blue color. Sample them on a freshly fried tortilla chip. The chips are a bit thicker than your average ones, making it the perfect vesicle for all the yummy salsa. At the Pearlridge farmer's market you can get their tacos and burritos. These are hands down some of the best tacos and burritos I've ever had. The rub on the chicken is so flavorful and smells intoxicating when you approach the tent. They often sell out so I recommend going early. The guys behind the tent have really good energy and will share their passion for their products with you. Thanks Fabio!

Location: They have a tent at the Pearlridge Farmer's Market. Parking: Lots at the Farmer's Market Service: Attentive to their customers. Food: Their breakfast burrito is on point!! Very filling and best to share it with someone. Yummy seasoned chicken, two eggs, tater tots, and cheese topped with sour cream, their special sauce, guacamole and cilantro. Masterpieces take time and it's worth the wait. Wait time could range from 5-20 minutes. So, place an order, walk the market, and then head back to stuff your face with goodness.

First, being Hawaii, decent means not using pasta sauce to replace pico, not using shredded processed cheese, and not using refried beans from a can. Don't think of comparing this to that "authentic ethnic" spot in LA or the over border drunken stint in TJ. All the requisites from tortas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, sopas including pozole and menudo, on offer. Complimentary C&S, just OK. Kinda soggy chips and the watery salsa doesn't much depth despite being fire roasted and not much spice heat. No complaints on the basic rice and refried beans that accompanied the large, stuffed trio of chicken empanadas (usually comes with two, add an additional for $5). Flavorful enough but not that complex mole. They are finished off with some sour cream, raw onions and crumbled cotija. Solid. Fast, friendly service with servers who seem to know their regulars well. Fair pricing with almost everything sub $30. It is what it is. Not bad for Hawaii and works to scratch the Mexican itch.

It was simple, comforting, and absolutely delicious. My son, who's from California and very serious about his Mexican food, said it was the best bean and cheese burrito he's ever had--which is definitely saying something! The portions are generous, so you definitely get your money's worth, and the spicy sauce has the perfect kick with amazing flavor that takes everything to the next level. It had a lot of cinnamon, but not worth the expensive experience. The size of the cup was smaller than a 12 oz can of soda. Few sips and it's gone. Definitely not worth the money, Horchata costs $5.00. Soda costs $3.00. If you need to get the soda. I expected it to be the size of a regular drink anywhere. I was very disappointed after he brought it out. I had the steak quesadillas. Comes with side of beans, choice rice underneath, and choice sauce like pico de gallo, and sour cream. Steak tastes good, tortilla was crispy. I liked their pico de gallo. The man at the counter didn't really talk much but he got the food out quick. We beat the rush and watched the line go down waiting for the drink. One man behind the counter. They play music from a playlist via tv on the wall. There is bench seating against the wall and a few small tables. Busy considering parking is really tight, it's a triangle shaped one lane lot across from the city mill.

It still blows me away that these Mexican restaurant owners don't ever seem to check out the good examples out there. With this food, the beans should be central and I do give them credit for serving whole beans and not bean paste. However, these people seem to cook these underdone beans from the back of the package. At 11:15, the meat was all prepared on a steam table and not fresh nor juicy or tasty. And like the other awful Mexican places here, they are putting guacamole dip on it which carries a taste of raw garlic that just ruins things. It was edible. The other problem is that I arrived on a Thursday, expecting a discount. The menu on the wall showed a price of $14 for my burrito by I was rung up at $17.50. When I reminded the cook/cashier he applied a discount. If this is by accident, you should lose two stars for borderline criminal behavior but I'm trying to be nice. And yeah, it might be the best Mexican on this island, I don't think any of them really know what they are doing. And no, we don't need fries in a burrito, just find great recipes without so much garlic and sugar. It's just gross. Well, I did eat half, it's big enough and the decor is fine. But who wants to eat at a place that charges you over and above the displayed price.
