Just had a disturbing experience shopping at Alpine. We have supported them for quite a few years and as a family of five we've spent thousands of dollars there. Today I went into the Sterling store looking to buy a ski helmet. I asked one of their sales people for help. To make a long story shorter, he went through their various options with me in a friendly way. One helmet that I had expressed interest with was also available online at back country. I asked him if they would price match. He hesitated but said they would consider it. I then mentioned Back offers a 15% discount for first time buyers. He literally said, "buy it online" and walked away from me. I totally understand if they can't match online pricing and wouldn't expect them to if they don't need to. What got me was how incredibly rude he was to someone who has been a great customer. All he needed to say was, sorry but we won't be able to match that pricing. Not a very smart way to treat your valued customers. I always treat people with respect and expect the same in return. We will never buy from them again. read more

The staff was friendly and helpful, they had what I needed, and they did a wonderful job with my special order, too. We went there to get our teens new ski hats because they have the coolest selection. Chris, I believe he's one of the owners, helped us. Of course, we didn't get out with just hats because they have an amazing selection of pretty much everything you can think of. We left with an additional long board, a skate board (both assembled custom right then), several pairs of gloves, and a new pair of sunglasses for mom. :) Fantastic customer service, good prices for quality merchandise...love Alpine Ski! My daughter came in to get sized for boots on 11/23 and was approached by someone who seemed to be in a rush. He had a flannel on and a hat, older gentleman. She has a feeling it was the owner. He immediately rattled of her ski size without putting any to her face and when she asked about boots he pretty much just laughed at her and treated her like a complete idiot. It also seemed like he thought she couldn't afford to purchase any boots. She had socks in her bag and was fully prepared to sit down and try some on in the hopes of purchasing a pair. There were plenty of people in there sitting down and getting sized and the way he treated her did not make her want to even ask to get fitted for anything. She tried to ask questions but he rushed her out of there and his attitude was so terrible. Super arrogant and acted like a know it all when he was clearly dealing with a beginner who was willing to learn and try on for the right sizing. She is super upset and I do not think it's worth making the trip out to Sterling for terrible service. read more

Highly recommend! Tyler was able to provide me one of the best customer services experiences I have ever had. My mother in law bought me a gift card to the Alpine Ski Shop thinking it was the one in Missouri and of course it wasn't. I called the shop and Tyler patiently asked me what I needed, telling me what websites to look at to see what I am buying over the phone. We finally figure out what I needed and he accepted the gift card over the phone, took down my info and shipped me my order that same night. He was very knowledgeable and was so patient and caring about what I needed. If I lived by Sterling, this would be my ski shop for sure!! read more

This is place is awesome! I came by myself hoping to buy my first pair of skis and boots, and everyone was super helpful. Matt helped me try on some used boots in the swap and then directed me to Chris but didn't leave until Chris got there. I really appreciated that. Chris was straight forward and helped me find the right gear for me and my level - someone who skis 2-3x/year on intermediate/advanced slopes. Wow, Pat of Alpine Ski Shop Sterling made me feel like a wealthy celebrity, although my purchase was only $270.00. Pat gave me all-star customer service. I had called early on Monday, December 21, 2020 and told him about my desire to skateboard. I have never skateboarded a day in my life. He was extremely helpful over the phone, which made me decide to drive to Sterling. When I got to the store, he picked out several longboards, discussed the pros and cons, demonstrated how to use them, and showed me how I should maintain it. He must have spent over 25 minutes with me. The store was crowded but he was patient and gave me his undivided attention. I live in DC, and it took me over 40 miles, and well over 90 minutes to get to Sterling. Yet, this will be my only stop for skateboards in the future. Bravo, to Pat and the Alpine Ski Shop Sterling. I just recently bought some new snowboard boots from Alpine; after an associate took time to get to know me and the type of riding I enjoyed, I was pointed to the perfect pair of boots. It didn't stop there, though; he then helped me heat-mold them so that they fit perfectly to my feet. I was able to strap in and snowboard in pure comfort this last weekend! I was very happy to finally find the entrance to the store, because at the beginning of my shopping I missed it somehow. It turned out to be my miracle store: wide variety of boots, even women sizes, great choice of skis and accessories, best prices available around. Wow ! With the help of Tyler and Chris it took me no more than half an hour to choose the right boots, skis, poles, and fix the bindings. Amazing ! And for me, the first time buyer, choosing boots and skis is a very big deal. I thought, it would take me a couple of weeks, at least. Special thanks to Tyler, I went skiing right the next day ! If this place wasn't out of my way I would be in this shop all day every day!! I like this place better than Ski Chalet just due to the amount of gear they have in the shop. First of all, they have variety, they have friendly folks that work there, what else do you need? I wish this place would move Ski Chalet out. So this place is tucked away in a weird location off some random road (I wasn't driving so I wasn't paying attention). I entered and was surprised at the amount of clothing they had for women! I hate going to places that blatantly cater to men but this place was different. I quickly chucked deuces to my hubby to check out the stuff they had in the women's section. What made more excited were a few signs that had four letters: S.A.L.E. Sold! I really wanted to spend some cash in that store but I had to hold back and get a grip. I found my hubby trying things on (more than 3) and that shows that it definitely got his attention with the few things he thought were pretty good buys. Their glove section seemed to be pretty popular with folks that have larger hands because all the M/L stuff was gone. They have good stock with snowboards and skis. I don't ski but I could tell they have everything for adults and kids, beginners and advanced. I moved over to the cooler side (snowboarding side) and checked out some of the boots and wasn't too impressed with what I saw but for those who are beginning I assume it would be impressive. I turned around to catch a bit of the Nats game and realized I was standing there for about 10 minutes and realized what I was there for -- SNOWBOARDING GEAR! I bought my stuff and got an ASS sticker to take home to either put it on me or my car. I chose neither but it was nice to carry that ASS sticker in my hand. I'm sure you all know its the Alpine Ski Shop (ASS) and when you buy something they will give you an ASS sticker too. Nice to know we found out we love ASS on such a nice day...too bad ASS is out of the way. Overall great store! read more

The guy that helped me gave me good advice and spent time with me to find a great pair of boots (at a stellar sale price!). The employees were knowledgable, laid back, and not snobby at all. I was pleased with the selection of ski gear and the help with ski boot fitting in March 2014. I was not pleased with the customer service after the sale. I had a problem with the Hotronics boot heaters purchased at Alpine and installed by their technicians. The plugs on each heater split after only 4 ski days. The problem turned out to be chair lifts hitting the top of the boot batteries. Certainly this is a design problem with the Hotronics batteries, but also an installation problem since the top back of the boot was where the salesperson recommended placement. When the first plug split, Alpine staff blamed me--they said I must have stored the boot improperly or pushed on the plug. When the next plug broke and I figured out the source of the problem, the Alpine ski technician told met that that was why he recommended placement on the side of the boot rather than the back. There was no explanation or apology given to me regarding Alpine's recommendation and installation of my batteries on the back of the boot. I have a $239.00 useless set of ski boot footwarmers and useless brackets on my brand new ski boots. I won't be going back to Alpine Ski Shop. read more
