This place is fine, but I much prefer Snowdrift tubing park in running springs. We only came here because Snowdrift was closed. Alpine Slide is overpriced, especially if you have young kids who will realistically only want to tube for like 30 mins. They also have a bunch of other rides here that are not included so be prepared for kids to whine to go on other things after you've already dropped like $150 to go sledding. The magic carpet thing was convenient, but they also yell at you if you try to take any pictures at the bottom of the runs no matter how far back you are. You are only allowed to take pictures way over on the side behind this fence where you can't really see much. read more

I came here as a kid and would have so much fun so I wanted to bring my kids to enjoy it too. I came with 8 adults and 10 kids total. Everyone had a lot of fun! As an adult, it seems so much smaller, but, the fun is still there. It's more than just the slide itself. They have a snack bar, race cars, a glider, water slide, and a roller coaster is currently being constructed. The alpine slide is the draw for me though. I've only ever come here in summer and it is always packed. They take cash only and I recommend coming early because parking is difficult past noon. Back to the slide itself, I don't recommend taking small kids at all. The chair lift takes you up to the top so little ones can't ride alone. My goddaughter is one of our older kids in the bunch and she is pretty safe and follows the rules so she did get on her sled on her own. She managed to lose her glasses as she flew off coming down. She was pretty banged up. Tore up all the skin on one of her ears, among other injuries. :( I also saw some adults coming down who slammed into the sleds in front of them because they lost control. Is it unsafe? -Yes But, is it lots of fun? -Also yes. Maybe don't let anyone under 10 ride alone? Or just maybe don't bring kids under 10 at all because even as an adult it's still difficult to control. Imagine an adult slamming into the back of your kids sled. At $20 a ride it may seem expensive but I love this ride! It's so fast, long, and fun!!!! You have to sign a waiver, buy your ticket, then get in line for ride. At the end, they give you a card to show a preview of your video in case you wanted it. I loved watching all of my friends' reactions to the ride. Even if you go just once, it's a memorable experience in Big Bear. read more

My rating is mostly based on the mineshaft coaster being very fun and unlike anything I've ridden before. Although $20 a ride, I'm not aware of anything similar anywhere else, i.e., a personal roller coaster cart where you control the speed! (Of course you can only go so fast, but it's nice that there's the option to slow down.) It went fast enough that I did mentally prepare myself to lose my baseball cap even though I'd turned it backwards lol. I did not feel worried for my glasses at any point though! The line was long, maybe 25 people in front of us when we joined it, but it moved quickly. It moved quickly enough that I did not even think to time the wait. You can ride solo or with 2 people, subject to a 375-pound weight limit. There are cameras attached to the carts that film your entire run, and you have the option to purchase the video if you want. I chose not to purchase my video because I figured I probably just had a silly grin on my face the whole time, haha. The alpine slide was also fun, although a little bumpy and a little noisy, compared to the mineshaft coaster. We did not try the other attractions. After signing a waiver, you buy tickets for each attraction separately near the entrance to each. There are lots of signs posted. Parking was ample, and folks are constantly arriving and departing. read more

Just about 90 min from arrival to our first slide. I don't recommend the tubing. Pretty expensive at $45/person (my 5yo was full price b/c he's more than 42" tall). Cameras and phones are not allowed on some rides, so they could sell you videos that they take of you, and the videos that they captured are not even available due to system failure. $20 per person per ride (mine shaft), they will charge $40 for two people even when one kart fits two people. It's a rip off. If you got a family of 4, prepare to pay $80 to experience one ride Tip: Avoid the Soaring Eagle ride, it was over so quickly. I've driven past this place for years but decided to stop in to try the Mineshaft Coaster, which opened in 2020 and is the first and only mountain coaster in CA. The ride did not disappoint! We went at 3pm and there wasn't a line - we were able to sign the waivers, buy tickets and get on the ride within 5 minutes. The entire ride only took a total of 9 minutes, from start to finish and cost $20 for a single ride, adult ticket ($2/minute!). That's the only reason I docked a star - I feel that for the time you're actually on the quick ride, $20 is a bit steep. A child's ticket is $10 and must be accompanied by an adult in the same cart. You can also ride double but the combined weight cannot exceed 375 lbs. They have a scale there and will weigh you! The ticket/waiver staff were very friendly and welcoming but most of the staff on the track deck appeared less than enthusiastic to be there. The Mineshaft Coaster ride itself was great!! I've never been on anything like it before. You control the speed of your cart and I felt safe the entire ride. You go up and down twice, have a couple steep descents and a variety of dips, twist and turns... even through a tunnel! The track is one mile in length & gives you plenty of time to see the beautiful scenery around the mountain. They also have an alpine slide, go karts, mini golf, waterslide & a chairlift ride. In the winter, the hill turns into a snow tubing park! I'll definitely be back and try my luck at some mini golf. read more

This place has a lot of rides, but the lines are longer than Disneyland rides. We waited in line 1st to sign a waiver for over 40 minutes, and then we had to go get in other lines to buy each individual ticket for each ride and that was another 30 to 40 minutes per ride to buy the ticket and then you have to go to another entrance line and make your way up to get in another line to actually get on the ride . So 3 lines for 1 ride. Waiver , ticket, ride. To get snacks and food at the snack bar the line was over 45 minutes long just to order . 25 min to get food number called. Got the funnel cakes and no forks"out of forks" Two people working in the kitchen for hundreds of guests ordering food. $45 for tubing and it ends at 4 PM so if it's 2 PM you can only go down the mountain once or twice but they're charging you for a day pass? That does not make sense to charge customers this way. Unless you're getting here first thing in the morning, the $45 a person isn't worth it just for tubing. My children ended up wanting to leave after 2 & a half hours and didn't want to do the other karts ride because it was to crowded. They definitely need a better check in process and let you buy the tickets and waiver in one place then go do your rides. Wont return. We spent $180 for 2 people to tube 1 time for less than a minute and buy snacks for a few people. read more

All I can say is I really wish we had more time. During the snow season, this place is packed. Good luck getting in there to park, because we couldn't even get in for 45 minutes. The road was getting blocked and it was just mayhem with the amount of people trying to cut each other off. You won't really get a chance to go on the slide. Maybe once or twice, but that line is ridiculous. If I'm paying that much for a ticket, I expect more. There's a line, before the line, before the line. You need to wait about an hour to get in and find parking, then you have to wait for your tickets, then wait for the rides. You'll only be able to get onto one ride. And it's really disappointing that we weren't even able to anything there. It looks like a lot of fun, but there were car accidents happening left and right. Maybe there should be signs outside or something. read more

Big Bear is probably one of my favorite getaways. My fiancé and I enjoy going tubing and bringing my nieces and nephews here. We try to come when it's not super busy in the winter closer to Christmas time. My fiancé and I recently went two days before Christmas and had a blast. A fun little place where you can enjoy a good few hours (2-4 hours) with the family. The main attraction for our visit was the Mineshaft Coaster, but we ended up doing more than just that during our visit. We also did the Alpine slide, Go Karts & Mini Golf. To be noted, cash only. They do have an ATM on site if you need it. We did the Mineshaft Coaster first and it was a pleasant experience. Children can ride alone at a certain age, but for double occupancy, the driver must be at least 18 years old. The maximum weight is approximately 374 lbs per cart. The cart has a camera attached to it so you can have a video and photos of your entire ride. Although, the video is condensed into 1 min so it's not exactly the entire ride. Hard to say when the photos take, but there is bound to be some interesting ones. The ride goes up and down twice and it goes pretty fast in my opinion. I thought it was exhilarating for what it is, but a bit pricey. There are lag times of travelling upwards so you'll just have to admire the scenery during that time. Afterwards, we did the Alpine Slide, which you pay for ticket stubs and then ride up the ski lift to the top. The bobsled has wheels so you can roll it like a luggage bag. The right side of the slide is more for beginners and the left side are for more experienced riders. We were unfortunate and were stuck behind two very cautious riders so we couldn't go as fast as we want. A bit of a bummer, because I thought they would time us to separate us, but that didn't happen. So this experience was much less exhilarating. Lastly, we did the Go-Kart and mini golf. These two were less than stellar, because the Go-kart track is just a small triangle. You ride non-stop for ~5 minutes, but the track is so "boring" that it gets dull quickly. I ended up doing swerves on purpose to generate more entertainment and pushing the karts to their max speed without braking for fun. The mini-golf has 18 holes and normally we like mini-golfing, but these 18-holes weren't in the best of conditions. There were plenty of debris like tanbark, rocks, and leaves all over the green. The green itself has seen better days. The decorations and environment (like water effects) were dilapidated. There were even spots where you can lose your ball forever if you weren't careful. Not the most pleasant mini-golf on top of being next to the go-kart so you are smelling the karts' exhaust for at least 8 holes. All in all, it was still a fun experience. The Mineshaft Coaster was a bit pricey, but it was a great experience. If you can go first without anyone in front of you, I'm sure the Alpine Slide would be very fun as well. Today was our second day this week and they did not improve. The prices have risen and they lines have gotten longer. DAILY, they have this problem and have not figured out how to overlap shifts so there are 2 workers at the top and 4 lanes open. The staff was friendly, I'm only dinging a star because you have to go to different places to buy tickets. They really should just get this whole thing together as one entity, not buy go-kart tickets here, then go buy the slide tickets there, then go to the other shack for the coast tickets. With that said, I LOVE the Alpine Slide. I've loved it since I was a kid, it's my favorite thing in Big Bear other than Snowboarding. I took my 7 year old for the first time last weekend. He's usually a big scaredy cat, but found some courage to go on one of the days we were in Big Bear, so I jumped at the chance to take him. We didn't realize until we were up top that he was too big to ride with me, which we thought he could since it's his first time and he's 7. But he is really tall, so we got up to the top and the attendant said he was too tall. So he put his big boy pants on and I was behind him. I told him he could go as slow as he wanted until he got comfy. He was 3/4th the way down and he started going faster and started to enjoy it. The 2nd time we went up for the Alpine Side, he went fast and was loving it. I'm so proud of him. So then after that, he was brave enough to try the Mineshaft Coaster. He was screaming a little, but we both had a blast. If it didn't cost $30 for the two of us, I would've kept riding it. lol. I love this place! Late night snow play on a Saturday night. $40 per person, cash only. Annoying to have to visit the ATM and pay an additional fee if you didn't come prepared, especially with a large party. Lines from 5 to 7pm are extremely long! From 7 to 9pm it clears out and it's easier to get up the hill for sledding. Restrooms are horrendous!! Hardly any toilet paper in any of the stalls and they all were filthy. I did not see anyone coming in to empty trash cans or restock the bathrooms the entire time we were there. read more

We did the mineshaft coaster ride only. We also looked at the arcade games, but really only wanted to play air hockey, which they didn't have. The mineshaft coaster cost $20 per person and they only took CASH. They do have an ATM but lucky we didn't need it. I'm guessing there would have been a hefty ATM surcharge for the privilege. We went on a Monday at 10:30 AM and there was no line. We filled out our waiver electronically and then paid at a separate window. Bonus, they had free hair ties for long hair (which I recommend!) We got on the ride that probably took about 3 minutes total. You ride up a leisurely on the cart and race down, then about half way, you take another leisurely ride up before racing down the second and faster leg of the ride. We really loved it. They also video your whole experience and charge $14.99 for a video. Unfortunately the camera was all smudged on my hubby's coaster, but mine was crystal clear. Worth going on once! read more

Really fun place with a variety of things to do for everyone. Although each attraction is pricy, they are all worth doing at least once. Get there early to find parking and avoid the biggest crowds. The staff is great at answering all of your questions and accommodating your requests. With a local holiday/three day weekend for the kiddos at school, we took the whole Picante family to Big Bear for the weekend. Even the TV news channels have picked up on how terrible Sunday downhill traffic has been on the 330 and 18, so our plans to stay through Monday we're largely to avoid the long Sunday drive home. And it worked, too. But we also had hoped to take the kids to the snow before it all melted away, and A Monday trip to the slush was planned. After surveying the area, it became clear that the migrating Painted Lady butterflies must have eaten all the snow (its a theory...). The only real "sledding" left that did not involve a very short and very steep run amidst exposed rocks and trees, with a hard landing on the highway while Your car is parked dangerously close to the shoulder edge was... this joint! We got out of the car in the 58° weather, stripped down to short sleeves, and moseyed to the front desk area. Signed waivers, paid $35 a nose, and within minutes, my three little Chili peppers were enjoying long slushy runs on inner tubes down the considerably long run. A quick ride up a conveyor belt designed for people (or maybe cattle, but cows don't sled much late season) takes you back to the top where you do the whole thing over again. The spot also features a long hill run on a track (looked fun but I was dusted on cash), and a few other seasonal odds and ends. 1990s arcade games inside were a nice touch. Snack bar like you're at an Oklahoma drive in theatre waiting for a tornado warning. But Monday was the time to go. No crowds early, and only one bus field trip showed up around noon when the snow was already getting pretty slushy. My kids had a great time, I didn't have to buy a sled that will live in our garage for two years until I give it to Goodwill, and they slept the night, exhausted from a hard but fun day of sledding. I absolutely LOVED the Alpine Slides! So much that I went twice while on a vacation in Big Bear. My favorite was the Mineshaft Coaster. I found that the best time to come is early in the morning right when they open. I did this the second time I came and was pleased to only wait in line for a total of 10 minutes. In order to ride the large alpine slides you must go straight to that section/building specifically. The other buildings are for snow play and the other attractions. Once you arrive at the alpine slides section which is to the far left you will first need to wait in a line to sign a waiver and get a band. Then, you will need to wait in the ticket line to purchase tickets. The cost is $10 for children under 54" and $20 for riders taller. The ride is a total of 6-8 minutes long. The ride does not disappoint and will definitely make those who are skeptical about the fun into believers who are thrilled about the speed and excitement! Credit/Debit card was accepted! read more
