This useto be my fave Taco shop in Alpine. We useto always go here. The service was always on point. I dont like Mananas or tapitios here in Alpine and I only ate once at the other two Mexican taco shops in Alpine. It was my to go place. But for the LAST three visits consistently it seemed like we was shortened on Carne asada with everything we ordered. I'm not sure what happened to the consistency amazing food they useto provide. Maybe there on a budget or they changed cooks? Whatever it is. There has to be a changing. As far as the customer service goes, it's always been wonderful. Therefore, I gave an extra star. I've been going to Alpine taco shop for years because for years they have had good food. Just recently I had ordered a bean and cheese burrito with American guacamole and it was almost closing time when I got home my burrito was cold the cheese wasn't melted and I was upset. I called right away and they said they would replace it if I came back. Nope I just got home from a very long day I'm not getting back in my car now. The next day or two they comped me a burrito and it was cold. I left it on the counter in my kitchen and my daughter ate it it was disgusting. Fast forward 2 weeks at noon I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with American guacamole got it home and it was cold this is ridiculous. I called them back they said it was because their guacamole was cold I said no the beans are cold the cheese is not even melting. They said come back and I'll make you another one I could not I had another appointment. 2 days later I call and tell them about the incident they said they were very sorry and to Come Back in. I went there not even 10 minutes later and the two ladies that were there after talking to the manager on the phone not even 10 minutes before said oh do you have your receipt I said no I don't have my receipt it was 2 days ago and you didn't say anything about having my receipt when we talked on the phone. Oh well I don't know anything about a bean and cheese burrito with American guacamole says one lady I asked to speak to the other lady the other lady says oh we can't do anything about that if you don't have your receipt I said I just talked to you on the phone you kidding me you're going to waste my time again absolutely unbelievable these people this is how you treat your customers you are snotty you lied to me and you give me bad food don't worry I won't be coming to your restaurant anymore ever just want your customers to know what they're up against when they come to your establishment for food read more

My wife and I tried out this little place for lunch today. I ordered the carnitas burrito, and my wife tried the carnets tacos. (Obviously, we're big fans of carnitas.) The carnitas we got were dry and lack real flavor. Both dishes were served with guacamole, but even that was rather thin and tasteless. The potion sizes were fine, even generous. But, a generous portion of a so-so dish does not improve the dish over all, IMO. There was a salsa table with three different salsas. Now, I do a lot of Mexican cooking (God bless you Rick Bayless!), so I've seen lots of canned mexican food products. I can't prove anything, but I'd swear that the green, mild salsa was canned Herdez Salsa Verde, and the medium salsa truly appeared to be Pace Picante Sauce. The spicy salsa looked to actually be homemade and had a good flavor while not being too "hot." I'll be back for more from the Alpine Taco Shop. (Their machaca and eggs looks interesting) but for now I'd have to say their food is OK, but I've certainly had better. read more

Its sad to admit but ve been to hundreds of taco shops/restaurants and I just recently moved down to the San Diego area from San Bernardino and I have yet to have food from a taco shop that is this good. We have been going here for years.. went there and ordered a bacon, egg & cheese burrito and a chile relleno burrito. The 1st burrito was all cheese, over cooked egg and little bacon... the second burrito was all beans and a chile relleno made with what looked like a large jalapeno instead of a poblano like most Mexican restaurants use. Went for lunch recently. I had been working in the yard and wanted something light so that I could keep up the good work : ) I asked for Ceviche, which the do not serve but she suggested the Campechana instead. WOOOW! I had breakfast here this morning, and it was just flat horrible. For starts, the coffee was like light brown dishwater. To add insult to injury, there was no cream, only powdered creamer or milk, neither of which is anything like an adequate substitute. When my Huevos Rancheros came, it was topped with yellow American cheese. The rice was some weird abomination of white rice with little bits of celery, absolutely not proper Spanish Rice. The beans, again, were topped with yellow American-style commercial cheese. The Huevos Rancheros were on tortillas so hard that trying to cut them, on a styrofoam plate, with a flimsy plastic knife, was an ordeal. The Ranchero sauce was more commercial microwave trash. I ate half of it, just out of sheer stubbornness, and then gave up and just walked away. In summary, I would have been better off just flushing my $9.00 down the toilet. At least that way I wouldn't be sitting here with my guts all queasy and churning. read more

Waste of money and time. Full of nasty greasy and crappy portions. Chimichanga was the nastiest piece of food I've ever seen served. Tacos suck too... They need MEAT in them... Love this place, it's been an alpine staple for like 20+ years. I always come for my rolled taco fix but have also been getting carnitas burritos recently too. Food is always on point. Prices have steadily climbed the past few years but something you can't blame them directly for. Employees are always friendly. I will say one thing that actually doesn't really bother me but one of the guys(been working here forever) is always stoned. Like ALWAYS! And not like he smoked earlier in the day..... But like maybe 5 minutes ago high. As an occasional smoker I could honestly care less but just seems bad for biz and my female friend I brought last time was extremely put off by this so maybe just keep the toking for after your shift :) will always come to the alpine taco shop read more

I grew up in Alpine. So I was visited Alpine Taco Shop ALOT and it was always awesome. I moved away from Alpine in 2002 and haven't been back to Alpine Taco Shop since. Last night I was up in Alpine for other reasons but I was hungry and thought I would stop by Alpine Taco Shop for old times sake. When I walked in I noticed that the place hasn't changed at all in the last 13 years. I ordered my usual carne asada burrito and three rolled tacos. The burrito was real good but I was a little disappointed in the rolled tacos. They just weren't as good as I remember.
