Incredibly beautiful location. Comfy rustic cabins. Like stepping back in time! I will come back!

I wanted to love this Place but I think that the owners really need to do a deep cleaning and update things. I visited during Columbus Day weekend and especially in the times of COVID cleanliness is key. The cabin wars very dirty - cobwebs, stains on bed covers, stains on carpet, dirty windowsills, mirrors full of smudges Looking like they hadn't been properly cleaned in a long time. The "kitchen" floor was sticky and one wouldn't want to touch any of the items in there - a toaster, coffee pot, etc. The housekeepers weren't going into the rooms which is understandable but we didn't even have a full roll of toilet paper. When asking the woman at the front desk after the first night she said that housekeeping would bring this but they never did. I feel like some of the things going on could be health violations especially during this time. Things can be rustic but they should be clean. read more

Perfect family vacation spot with adequate space to socially distance. Small beach area with couple of row boats for guests, BBQ pits, swings for children and a swimming pool. Ernie and family who own the place are very friendly. We got a cabin with 2 beds that will sleep 4 and a suite in the lodge that will sleep 6. Suite has a full kitchen (no oven), cabin has a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave. Lake George shopping area is a few minutes drive or walking distance if you prefer. If I am to visit Lake George again, I will stay at Alpine Village. read more

We checked into this place and was disappointed from the moment we got out of the car. First the manager had on a political t-shirt and hat. Politics do not belong where you are dealing with the public, it is in poor taste. Second the guest house where we were staying, had several issues. First it didn't feel clean enough, ESPECIALLY during COVID. Everything was falling apart from the remote, the lamp, holes in the screens, and the fan sounded like it was going to explode. The cleaning people left the tub filthy, I had to call them and ask for it to be cleaned AGAIN. We thought everything was ok until we went outside to find a very small waterfront with a tiny box roped off for swimming? Really? Limited amount of boats and you had to leave $20 deposit for each boat every time you took it out, if you could actually manage to get one. There was barely a dock and the pool was cloudy with the railing and tiles falling apart. The chairs were filthy. The last straw was when we caught a mouse going through our food, my husband caught him in the garbage and had to go outside at 2:00 am to put it out. A few min later we heard more, so much for a good night's sleep. Thank goodness we found availability elsewhere and we packed up and left. read more

Dirty cabins, not enough parking, an owner who complains about his staff and his guests to you while you check In, staff that is sure to let you know how much of an inconvenience you are to them, and a mix of guests half of which are trying to have a relaxing vacation and the other half who think nothing of letting their unsupervised young kids scream at the top of their lungs outside your window at all hours of the night while the parents drink around a bonfire. Lake George is a beautiful area and there are plenty of nice places to stay. Do yourself a favor, check the reviews, pass on Alpine Village and book a nice place. This isn't it. read more

It was very dirty, there was mold in the bathroom, and a hole in the screen door was lazily plugged with paper. The floors looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in 20 years and the furniture had layers of dust. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, each person in our group complained about the state of their mattress--6 beds, not one of them was comfortable. Additionally, they would only take cash or personal check, but then display the visa and mastercard logos on their office door. And they require a credit card to hold the room---but you can't pay for the room on the card. The cheapness of the owners continued when we asked if they had a couple packets of sugar and said "we could buy them in town." There is a restaurant on premises AND we stated that we forgot to pick up some sugar. The dish soap in the kitchen was watered down and the stove wasn't working when we arrived but, to their credit, they did get it working once we complained. I think if they hired a few more housekeepers this place could be great. Check out is at 11 and check in is at 3, in those four hours the room should be thoroughly cleaned and everything should be checked to make sure its working properly--but this obviously doesn't happen. The one upside is that the grounds are beautiful and there is a great view to watch the Thursday night fireworks. read more

We love Alpine Village! Rustic log cabins with fireplaces, great little swimming beach with canoes, heated pool, and an old school feel. The location is great, off the beaten path, but close to the village. The views are really spectacular. We come back every year, as do many families. My daughter has friends she sees year after year. They also have a really great breakfast. We couldn't believe the prices! The food was good, and the dining room has great lake views, with a friendly waitstaff. If you are looking for quintessential Lake George, this it. If you want faux furnishings, modern amenities and the associated prices. Goto the Sagamore. If you want to enjoy lakefront like it was with your folks. At a family run place, run by people who care. This a a hidden gem and a bargain. Clean, well kept. read more

I've stayed at this place every summer for the last few years that I've been visiting Lake George. I enjoy the location (walking distance to downtown) and the fact that it is right on the water (boating amenities are nice too). The view of the lake is nice to wake up to, and swimming in the lake is fun. It has a rustic cabin feel to it (emphasis on rustic), and the food in the restaurant is actually pretty decent. The prices are average, but don't expect them to take credit card (despite having a sign in the window that says so, ignore that because its false advertising). If you book in advance, she requires you to send a check by snail mail (unacceptable in this day and age). Unfortunately, the dark side to this place is the lady that runs this place. She is a mean old witch, and after a few years of putting up with her terrible customer service and horrible attitude, I will be finding a new place to stay in the future. The place is dated, and it shows, although I don't mind that. Every year I walk out of that place with a story to tell about the nasty old hag that runs this place, unfortunately, at this point I don't feel putting up with her is worth it anymore. She isn't just not nice, she is down right rude to your face. Here's a quick story: I rented out one of the cabins once and upon entry I basically had to capture a bat flying around in our bed room and set it free outside. As if that wasn't enough, the people upstairs decided to take a shower (how horrible right?) except for the fact that it leaks, and dumps water directly onto the king bed we were sleeping on. So we woke up to a soaking wet mattress. We then checked out and asked to use the boating facilities for like an hour (since we paid for the night) but the lady at the desk down right refused to let us use it, despite being recurring customers every year, and having spent a night there, and despite there being no other people using them. If this doesn't sound acceptable to you, find a different place, because this is my standard experience year after year. read more

I'm so happy I didn't pay attention to the other reviewers ragging on this place and went for it. If your looking for some luxury digs, go to the Sagamore or whatever. This is authentic, rustic, cabin-by-the lake rooms and we had a perfect stay. The grounds were lovely. Had a nice pool, BBQ's, free canoes/kayaks to rent and a great breakfast. Ernie was the best. Views were picturesque. Yes, the rooms are basic and there are no frills so if you are not into that then you should keep looking. Personally I can't wait to go back next year. The only thing I will add is that one other reviewer said you can walk into town from the hotel and, yes, you can physically walk into town but it takes more like 15-20 minutes on a not-so-friendly road so plan on driving back and forth. read more

Can't get over this place. I can't speak to how it is during the peak summer season, but I love coming hear in the fall and enjoying the last few weeks of their season at a major discount rate. It's a great place to stay if you intend on leaf peeping or hiking through any of the local mountains or trails, especially for couples and groups of friends. Alpine Village is located in under a five minute's drive from the heart of Lake George. It's unbelievably cheap for what you get. I'm almost hesitant to tell people about it, because I don't want to let the secret out. You're right on the lake, and you can even use their row boats for free (with a security deposit), giving you a really picturesque view found only on the water. There is a pool (though closed for the season), a volley ball net, and some benches right near the water. You'll often find a family of ducks hanging out by the water, which is nice. Last year, I rented a split duplex, and we got a king sized bed, bathroom, and fireplace. It smelled delightful when we used it. The staff is really chatty and friendly, giving you that nice local experience. I'm a bit shocked at the negative reviews - you're renting a log cabin for the rustic experience. If you want sterile hotel quality, go to a Marriott. I thought the cabin was clean and comfortable, overall. I'm happy to come back with friends this year and rent out a whole log cabin to ourselves. read more

This is a very rustic place. If you are on a tight budget then go for it but beware. We had booked a a 4 night stay at the end of our vacation. After the first night we were ready to leave. We stayed 2 nights only because we couldn't find a place to stay for 3 nights. We stayed here in August 2017 Pros: Great setting right on the lake, play area for kids, beach area for the lake, heated outdoor pool and the owners were nice. There is also a breakfast restaurant on site, but we didn't eat there. There is plenty of room for kids to play out side and now have to be cooped up in a small room/cottage. There are grills and a picnic pavilion, which we didn't use but were always occupied and in use. There was a large mini fridge in our room, which was super clean. It also had a mini freezer that was clean. Also had a microwave and mini-coffee pot. The room had an over all clean appearance but first looks are deceiving. Cons: There was a mold smell in the entire room that was setting off my allergies and my daughter's making it hard to breathe. The only window that we could open was the bathroom window so that didn't help much. We opened the porch door for air but there was holes in the screens so the bugs came in. There was mold on the bathrooms walls and bedroom ceiling. The bathroom ceiling was fine but high on the walls was covered in black mold dots. The entire interior of the cabins is wood paneling so it is not easy to clean. The fireplace hadn't been cleaned out of ashes and burnt logs, making things even more dusty. There were cobwebs everywhere above eye level. There is not clock or phone in the room to reach the front desk with. We had to buy our own toilet paper since there was only a 1/4 of a roll in the bathroom and there was no one to be found to ask for more. Don't forget things like shampoo and soap cause you won't get any from the Village. They had a few bars of soap that were as thin as a few sheets of paper folded. After one use they were gone. While you had a coffee maker, there were no cups or coffee or tea to use with it. Good thing we weren't coffee drinkers. The one time we swam in the pool, there were a few cigarette butts floating in the water. There is a no smoking sign but no one pays any attention to it. The beds were in need of replacing. My husband and I couldn't share a bed cause it slope toward the middle to much. The one my daughter and I shared had lumps and neither one of us got a good nights sleep. The bedding was clean so there is that. We left after 2 nights since we were all miserable. Luckily we found a room at a local chain which was everything we expected from a hotel. We weren't able to get a refund but hubby was fine with it He just wanted us all to be able to sleep read more

BEWARE OF BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES. They cancelled our reservation 10 minutes before check-in. After we told them we had no place to go as a back up and we have driven 2.5 hours with a baby, they did not offer anything (no recommendations no compensation or something for a future stay, no apology, nothing) and proceeded to argue with my husband. At one point they hung up on my husband before he could even confirm that our card was not charged. When we called back and asked why she hung up on us, she said, "there was nothing else to talk about." Very rude. They were completely in the wrong. The more we heard from them with "I don't know what you want me to do about it" "people make mistakes", I realize that this was obviously a communication issue between multiple people handling reservations. Their reservation system is likely not very sophisticated. This would be understandable as an honest mistake, but why argue? Why hang up on my husband while he is talking? Why not offer something? Why not apologize? As a business within a hospitality industry, this place has no concept of customer relations. One can only imagine what this could imply about the rest of basic hospitality business practices such as cleanliness, accommodations, safety etc. read more

I just stayed at this place over the Columbus day weekend. I don't even know where to begin. Our cabin was filthy dirty and infested with bugs. I lost track of how many stink bugs and crickets were killed. It was beyond rustic. I like rustic. This was just disgusting. The window sills were black with dust. Curtains had brown stains, probably haven't been washed in years. Thick cobwebs with eggs inside them. The carpet was stained and filthy. I was so freaked out over the bug situation, even waking up with a cricket IN my bed! I told the manager or the owner (not sure of his status) and he blew me off telling me "haven't you ever gone camping?" Yes, I expect bugs in a tent, not in a cabin. I think a tent would been cleaner! I wish I could have left, but there was no vacancy anywhere, so we were stuck. It's a shame because it's in a prime location, and the view of the lake is so pretty. read more

Our family of 6 has stayed at Alpine Village at least 10 times. We have met other repeat families that stay here annually. We have met the owners and their children and grandchildren, and they are all nice. Some of the guests, family members and staff connected via facebook to keep in touch. It is more like staying at a big family reunion than at a luxury hotel. It has everything we want in a Lake George vacation: small beach on the lake plus a pool, breakfast restaurant, close to town, kayaks and row boat available, our unit's own private deck, and more. We don't have a boat, but there are slips available. Good luck trying to find all of that in Lake George at the prices available at Alpine. This place is truly a gem! read more

I'm glad we only stayed one night here. Stayed in the log cabin and it just felt just felt moldy and outdated. The pool is only 4ft deep and was dirty too. There are much nicer places on Lake George to stay if you do some research prior and willing to pay $50.00 more. I don't think I would stay here again but it was a last minute find and price was right $99.00. read more

I want to recount my experience here despite that others have mentioned some of it already. The resort is good but not kept in good shape. The owners are all about the cash money and are very rude especially Lillian. I booked two Cabins for whole week for $1800. Their so called famous breakfast is not free anymore and the waitresses are very rude and pushy. I noticed after 3 days that the room were not cleaned well. The rooms are not being vacuumed and bathrooms are not mopped and the sheets are not changed. I went to the front desk and spoke to Lillian, I asked her if they change the sheets and she said on Wednesdays. Common, what respectful resort changes the sheet once a week. It happens to be Wednesday so I told her that sheets were not changed so she tells me that she will speak to the cleaning women. Even after that, the bed covers were not changed. next day the rooms are again not vacuumed. Towels are so small and old the fabric tears in your hands. Upon checking out, the owner Lillian ignores me while trying to speak to her, I insist on explaining my issues with the sanitation of the room but she calls me a complainer like a women and asks me to leave. I see the other owner (her husband) and he tells me that we complain a lot and that if we don't like the place never to come back. I told him that i put money in the place and I would expect to be listened to at least, he answers that everybody else did and i should not come back. Lillian backed him up again and asked me to get the hill out. The owner stated clearly that he does not care about my opinion and whether I tell others about my experience. I hope you consider not going there to proof to the owner that customer actually matters. read more

First thing.....I tried several times to put in correct street address, which is 3054 Lake Shore Drive, but Yelp would not allow the change for some reason. The resort looks great. Let me say also, as others have, that unless you want a "rustic", not to be confused with "flophouse" type experience, this is not your place. Our room had "light" coming through the logs and around all the windows and doors. Not sure how drafty it would have been in the windy and freezing weather you typically get up there in the winter. I myself have no problem with keeping warm in that sort of environment. The views are great. The pool and boating equipment was fine. I never met the "old witch" as she is described, but I did meet her husband, I believe. He's very nice. My main issue with the resort is restaurant cleanliness. The breakfast I had was ok, but I never lost sight of the fact that it may have been served on less than clean plates. Let me explain. The first morning I was there I beat my wife and the other couple we were traveling with to the restaurant. I beat the the dining crew too! I was invited in and was told coffee was up. I asked for a cup. My table already had mugs. As I waited for the coffee I picked up the mug and noticed it looked "dark" inside. I took my white napkin and swabbed it around the inside and was disgusted with what I saw. I used water and several other napkins and got it cleaner, but not completely by time coffee came.I showed waitress. She said she would get me another mug and said some BS about making hot chocolate in the mugs. Replacement mug was filthy also, as were all the other mugs at the table.The coffee was awful also. Moral of the story is that it's an ok place to stay, but eat someplace else. WI-Fi was free, but non-existent. read more
