We used to have a Schnipper's in my office building and I remember it being a hit. I had a show on 42nd street and another friend had a show on 45th street, so I suggested we meet here. We ordered via their self-ordering kiosk, which was a bit of a mess because they didn't have any pagers left. We kind of stood there awkwardly until someone told us to just key in our name instead of the pager number. When our orders came out, they were missing the sauce for the sweet potato fries and I had to go up to the counter to ask for some. The friend chicken was so dry and so flavorless. Schnippers has a great location for the transients exploring nyc. The place is pretty busy; however, despite this, it seems pretty well run. The burger was well cooked and the fries were ok. The onion rings were pretty oily, but seasoned well. If you need some reprieve from the city and can find a seat definitely swing by. Maybe because I just came in 40 minutes before closing. The menu had a nice variety from healthy salads to French fries. I was greeted with a smile the ambiance was a lil cafeteria like but nice. The chairs are a lil hard but I'm sure that makes for easy cleanup. I ordered a hotdog with coleslaw and fries. The coleslaw was delish and had some kale in it for some dark leafy green action and color. The French fries have a nice crisp to them and good texture (these make the top of my fry list) the hotdog (served naked) I added a lil mustard (they only have frenches yellow). Standard size dog in length but a lil thicker than average and the snap when I bit into it was satisfying. I had a picture but lord knows what happen to it. Now as I'm eating they are cleaning up and bringing the chairs and tables in from outside. During this time they're leaving the door open, which means just any old thing can fly in and it did. There was one huge gigantic bug on the counter, which I kept trying to get one of the employees to manage, but nobody wanted to touch it so they just left it alone. Then as I go in to take a bite of my coleslaw, a bug flew in. And it was one of those little tiny flies that I couldn't see once he landed in there. And that was all she wrote. I couldn't eat it anymore. Since they were closing up, they were all out of coleslaw because I asked if I could get a replacement. They didn't put up a fuss about replacing it but because they were closing, they were all out and couldn't so they gave me the leftover french fries because the fryer was already clean. Wonderful! I have celiac so I have to eat gluten free. Schnipper's has gluten free chicken fingers and french fries fried in a dedicated fryer. If you mention an allergy, they will note a glove change on the ticket. For sauces, their chipotle ranch and honey mustard are very good. The cheese fries are a little strange because it just comes as a side cup of cheese but they works for me because I sometimes like to dip the chicken fingers in the cheese. The food is good but the giant interior is apparently too hard to heat because my group was freezing and all had lunch with our coats on. I had a grilled cheese and a chocolate milkshake. There is plenty of seating here and turnover seems fairly quick so you can take a breather in your tourist-centric travels. The menu is fast food, but the ingredients seem a step above. Fresh Arugula on my Schnipper's Classic... I don't mind if I do. The burger, cheese, onions and bacon all do their job, but unfortunately didn't taste much of Schnipper sauce which was a bit disappointing. The bun holding it together reminded me of White Castle's bigger brother, but less steamed. I got this as a combo and the Fries were great and it was nice to have free refills on the drink. There are lots of ways to get in trouble here - sloppy joes, hot dogs, chicken sammies and even a tuna melt are some of the food choices.. milkshakes and beer are options if you prefer liquid trouble haha. If you are looking to eat healthier they offer apps like Baby Arugula (a small salad?), charred broccoli, fresh corn esquites (healthy-ish?) and kale/cabbage slaw. My friend and I were looking for a spot to pick up a quick dinner and Schnipper's was perfect for that, since it's right across the street from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. We came Sunday around 8:30 pm and it wasn't too crowded. I was surprised by how big the restaurant is given its prime location and proximity to Times Square. They offer salads and hot dogs, but the majority of their menu is focused on burgers and sandwiches. They also have chicken tenders and mac and cheese along with various sides. We shared the Veggie Boy, which is their vegan sandwich, for $12.50. The price is a bit high for the portion that you get, but given the location, it's not too surprising. We got it to go since we were running late for our bus. It took maybe 10 minutes for the burger to be ready, but that worked out as it gave us time to use the bathroom. We ate the burger on the bus and boy was it the best veggie burger I've had in ages! I don't know what exactly they put into their veggie patty but it was very flavorful. My friend loved it as well. I was craving onion rings and this place popped up on Google Maps so I decided to give it a shot since I never heard of it before. It's very spacious and clean inside. There's several tables for group seatings and counter seating if you are dining solo. After you order, they provide you with a pager so you know when your order is ready. However, the pager never went off and they actually brought out my order to me directly. I'm not sure if it was because it was off hours so a pager wasn't needed, but it was a pleasant surprise for them to bring the order out to me! I got the old fashioned burger and onion rings with a side of honey mustard. The old fashioned burger would be equivalent to what you get at In and Out or 7th Street, which a simple cheeseburger + caramelized onions and pink sauce. I enjoyed the burger! I do wish the onions were caramelized a little more - it was a little too stringy for my liking and made it difficult to eat with the burger. The onion rings were the star of the meal though - they are nicely battered and not too greasy! The onion rings are huge and a side is enough to share with 2 people (or just save them for yourself if you are super hungry!) They have a perfectly crispy exterior with a soft interior - I'm still thinking about these onion rings.. The honey mustard paired with it nicely - they have other dipping sauces available if honey mustard isn't your thing. The only downside is the prices are pretty steep for a burger + onion rings. I paid around $21 for my meal, so it's definitely not a spot I would go back to if I just wanted a simple burger. However, it's worth a visit at least once if you're in the area. read more
