I'm from Orlando and this is my first time here. A friend met us so she was already waiting to be seated. Good crowd on a Friday for lunch. I'm going to assume it's really good. Server (Asia) came over and greeted us. Got drinks and took our order promptly. There is a yuppie kinda vibe going on with some light techno music you normally hear at a high end place but it's actually at a great volume. The lunch arrived pretty quick considering the place is packed. I ordered a slice of meat lovers pizza and it was very good! You can tell it was pre made and warmed up but still very good. We ordered pizza online to be picked up at the Phillips HWY location. When we arrived with the confirmation number they never got it. They did not offer a discount for the mess up and thought it was funny. The girl at the front was extremely rude. Well what Al's pizza management needs to remember is....there are way to many pizza places in Jacksonville to get a good pizza. We will no longer be patronizing your pizza joint. read more

Not very attentive! Ordered and paid for a pizza for lunch online. Thought I would be able to swing by pick up and go back to the office. Scheduled pick up for 11:00AM, got there 5 minutes early. Told hostess I had a takeout order and gave her my name. She pushed a receipt in front of me, I signed and gave it back. She looked at the receipt went back towards the kitchen, came back and said that my order wasn't ready. I waited over 20 minutes, while the hostess and what may have been a manager joke around with each other. Finally I went to the hostess and asked for my order, she didn't say a word, another young lady asked my name went to the kitchen and got my order. It appears to me that because she didn't see a tip on the receipt, she didn't provide service. What she doesn't know is that I had a cash tip for her. Well to bad for her! read more

I used to love Al's...I was a waitresses at the beach location in college. However, I was very disappointed with my latest visit for lunch. First of all I am surprised they don't have better lunch specials. I just wanted a slice and maybe some salad but the cheapest salad was $5.99! A slice of pizza starts at 2.50 and then each topping is 50 cents as well. A bit high for lunch prices in my opinion. Then the service was just really terrible. Our waitress took forever to take our order and then she didn't come back to check on us until we had finished our food. When she finally did come back she was chewing on food as she spoke to us. I couldn't even believe it. I guess she decided to have her lunch as well. Gross. There are so many better pizza spots for lunch. Sorry Al's you need to step it up! read more

I ate here today on my lunch break and overall it was a good experience. I ordered the garlic cheese bread as an appetizer, it wasn't what I was expecting but it tasted good. I also ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza and was pleased, it was thin crust New York style but not too greasy and it had a good taste. The waitress was friendly and attentive and kept our drinks filled. My friend had a coupon that really cut the price down. Ate here last night. My calzone was tasty. Wait staff very sweet. I saw lots of people drinking wine and toward the end of my meal overheard something about a special from the server at the table next to mine- I'd have ordered vino had I known, missed opportunity. What I absolutely loathed at this place was IT WAS SO PAINFULLY LOUD INSIDE. Couldn't hear my companion speak! Music and echoey interior. UGH. Asked to move outside which was marginally better, but the music was still SO LOUD. Further, once seated outside it was so dark I couldn't really see my food. Just too bad- not relaxing, not fun. Maybe I'm getting old but this was miserable. P.S. Initially I gave it just one star because it was not very enjoyable, but went back and gave it two because the food was good. I've had food delivered from the Al's Pizza Mandarin location twice and both times I thought the food was outstanding. When my last order was delivered, the delivery guy asked if he could come in and use my bathroom. I wasn't comfortable with that so I apologized and said 'no', tipped him and enjoyed my meal. Only to find out on the next call that my house is no longer in their delivery area. Huh?? After two previous deliveries? Oh well, no problem. As a whole I love Al's. My coworkers and I alternate between the beach boulevard location and Philips highway location. At beach boulevard we have great service and a good time every time. At Philips highway the hostess is rude and half the time we have to go find our own server. I honestly hate this location but our customers live nearby and we meet them here. This was a horrible experience. First I tried to call and the lady puts me on hold and says she is really busy. Leaves me on hold call back and puts me on hold again. Well I'm on my way there and just hang up and walked in to order not busy at all. Place my order one deluxe with black olives only on one half and a half pepperoni half bacon pizza and sit down to wait. Another customer is waiting on a slice and they mess up the order. Well I'm sitting and 15 minutes later she says my order is ready. Go to check it and not correct. She takes it back to have it fixed and 5 minutes later it comes back still not correct. I went here today for dinner about 4 PM with my wife and a couple of her work friends. The location was clean when I walked in and I was greeted as soon as I walked in. The restaurant was dead, only a couple of people so I took a seat and was helped in seconds by a really friendly waitress for drinks while I waited for everyone to show up. I had the lunch portion of Chicken Parmesan and I have to say it was really pretty darned good. The sauce was well seasoned and the chicken was tasty. The garlic bread was toasted but not bone dry. The ladies got pizza, lasagna and Eggplant Parmesan and all enjoyed it. The portions were perfect and the cost $5 was great. The restroom was clean and well maintained and I will certainly come back. I hate to leave a bad score, b/c the pizza is really good. This score is based on Entrees. First up was mozzarella sticks. No just no. These mozzarella sticks where straight out of a box you could buy at a grocery store. The salad and garlic bread that came with the entree's were very good. The service was great. I ordered Lasagna and it came out sitting in a bowl of sauce covered in a mountain of cheese. It did not taste very good and it did not taste fresh. My wife ordered chicken parmesan. It came out like the lasagna sitting in sauce covered in cheese. There was nothing crisp or crunchy about the breading. It was lack luster. there arent too many joints in jacksonville that have this type of venue. i would compare Al's Pizza to a smaller, less themed Mellow Mushroom. i would even compare it to The Loop, but specializing more in pizzas. i normally would not have tried a place like this on a weeknight, or any night really, but my wife had a gift card for the place so we tried it out. pizza was ok, my 10 year old ordered the kids lasagna which was a pretty good portion. they do serve wine, which is a plus since this is more of a take out/sit down place. over all, not bad. prices are reasonable. honestly though, unless we have a coupon or a gift card again, we probably wouldnt go out of our way to go back there. read more

Had lunch and ordered Chicken Alfredo from waitress Julia. When meal arrived she set plate down and went looking for silver ware, came back with to go plastic and stated they ran out of silverware due to rush. Waitress came back once to put ticket on table. Host came over later and asked if I wanted refill on tea , said yes. Went to bathroom to wash my hands,but soap dispenser had been empty so long that it was dry. We have eaten Al's Pizza since moving into the area from PA, 3 years ago. Here of late, our bi-weekly orders are not so great. Yesterday we drove to Al's from St. Augustine, since Al. closed the local diner in old town. Our pizza order of pepperoni, green peppers, black olives and mushrooms was ordered well done, meaning the crust to be baked crunchy and the top browned. 'We also ordered salads, that came with so many toppings that I should have just ordered a cheese pizza and saved the green peppers, mushrooms and black olives for my pizza. When out pizza was served the toppings weren't even cooked. 'The cheese and pepperoni were baked yet the mushrooms, green peppers and onions and black olives were raw and not baked into the cheese toppings or even browned. The green peppers were so raw they were crunchy and tasted 'green", while the onions were warmed and not baked completely. The crust was moist, as the bottom of the pizza, was greasy, that made the crust wet and chewy. I don't know who was baking pizzas this night, but it was the worst pizza we've ever been served by Al's. The salad would be a better compliment to the pizza if there weren't so many toppings. A few carrot straws, grape tomatoes, in mixed greens would be a nice side sala, rather than a bowl of vegetables with a little lettuce. Hugely disappointed after driving 25 minutes to eat pizza at our favorite pizzeria. read more

Ordered a pizza and garlic cheese bread to go. The bread was bad...I think overcooked because it was tough and the cheese rubbery. I'm sure it would've been better fresh, but just didn't stay hot on the drive back to our hotel. We ordered the chorizo pizza with red peppers and green olives. It was really good...definitely a unique flavor combination. The staff was prompt and friendly both on the phone and when I came in to pick it up. We have eaten at the Al's Pizza on San Jose many times and had a great experience. This location is below standards. We arrived at 5:45 on Saturday. Our server was nice but was obviously very new to serving, might have still be training. The food was okay, I ordered the antipasto salad and it was sad to say the least. Our server did not clear any plates from our table when they were obviously empty and I feel we would not have received any drinks or food without the minimal assistance provided by the other servers. The woman's bathroom had no toilet paper and the faucet was dirty and coming out of the sink. The floors of the restaurant were dirty, and had not been swept all day. I will not be back. read more

This is by far the worst service I have ever had. Placed an online order at 6:45 pm said would be delivered by 8:18pm -8:30pm. Here it is now 9:38pm and NO delivery. You can't call to see where your order is as the phone does not ring all you get is a busy signal. No call from restaurant to say order is backed up or anything. By far the ABSOLUTE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIANCED. And the worst thing is I have already paid with my CC so will be disputing that charge. Big thumbs DOWN. read more

Very seldom do I give a bad rating to a restaurant most restaurants go out of there way to please you in one way or another. This place is a total exception to that rule. I took my 2 kids to eat here for the 1st time, we ordered a pizza a steak and cheese sandwich my daughter decided she wanted the chicken tenders from the kids menue, she asked what came with it, the waitress said nothing, I said for 6.99 just chicken tenders, she said yes.., I asked how about chips or something, she just looked at me.
