Our server was so kind and gave us exceptional service! The restaurant was very nice, and right next to the beach, so a perfect location for a lunch or dinner after a day at the beach. From looking at past reviews, I could see that Al's Pizza has a bit of a checkered history. But not on this day! Today it was excellent! This Neptune Beach pizza outlet has a great location and some neat things you learn later that you didn't expect. My honey had eaten here in the past but now it was my turn to check it out. Though I once managed a Domino's Pizza shop years ago, I still love pizza and I try to not be too picky but do appreciate the uniqueness of each individual ma and pa pizza shop or brand name. Al's has a few stores in town. However, this is the only one that has a wood-fired stone oven - and it makes a HUGE difference in the taste and quality of the pizza. We got the deluxe, which has all the basics you'd expect, like pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, onions, etc. The marinara sauce underneath and the cheese were supreme! However, the crust was the star of the show. It was the best (by far) in-shop crust I've ever tasted. It was baked perfectly and had a beautiful crispness underneath the topping that really enhanced this pie! I could eat it again and again for sure! The lasagna was a single order split in two so we each could have our own serving. It was a tomatoey marinara sauce (and lots of it) with the lasagna - cheese lovers will appreciate it too. A great compliment to the pizza itself. Also, the salad that came with the pizza was balanced, filled with fresh and colorful lettuce, tomatoes, and other usual toppings. The balsamic vinaigrette dressing was very good as well. It wasn't very busy during our visit, but people were filtering in and out picking up carry out orders. The shop is clean, well-organized, with a nice variety of seating. I love the outdoor patio and plan to eat out there next time I go when the weather is cooler. It has a nice canopy and just seems to be an enjoyable spot to sit for a meal. Our server, Sommer, was courteous and took good care of us during the visit. I appreciate the general manager, Brittany, for sharing some details about Al's Pizza, especially about the lumbered wall! No! The lumber in this wall is not saved to burn up in the wood-fired oven! It's actually wood from fallen trees that fell during Hurricane Matthew in 2016. Matthew was the worst storm of the season that year and created a significant amount of damage in JAX before doing its worst damage in the Carolinas. She also said that for a period of time this wood harbored bees that would show themselves around the shop, but that's not the case anymore. Well, funny thing I forgot to tell her is, that while I was outside shooting pictures of the building, a bee suddenly showed up and began to pester me!! So, I would tell Brittany, they appear to be around still! Well, in the end it was a very satisfying first visit to this restaurant. Yes, it is one I greatly look forward to doing again! I've been a regular customer at Al's Pizza (Neptune Beach) for both individual takeout and occasional catering orders. Unfortunately, I've had multiple negative interactions with the manager, Brittany, and my most recent visit crossed the line. I called the day before to place a large order and confirmed an 11:30 a.m. pickup time. I arrived at 11:19 just to check that everything was on track. A staff member assisted me and went to check on the order, then Brittany came out. She immediately questioned why I was "way too early," even though I was only 11 minutes early for the agreed-upon pickup time. I mentioned I can wait but needed to have the food by noon to make it to my destination on time. When I reminded her that I had called ahead and confirmed 11:30, she responded sarcastically: "How do you expect us to get that done in 30 minutes?"--even though the pickup time had already been approved. She continued to mutter and huff on her way to the back, and I could hear her telling other staff to never accept pickup times that early and to always check with her first. About 15 minutes later, Brittany brought the order to the front. She sarcastically said, "Make sure it's to your satisfaction," then walked away without saying anything else. On the way out I started to explain to my friend who came to help me carry the food out how terrible the experience I just had was. As we were walking out the door, Brittany came outside and publicly confronted me in front of other customers. She aggressively asked if there was a problem, then cut me off when I tried to respond that yes there was. She accused me of being rude, claimed I "never tip," and told us not to come back. I want to be clear: I was certainly frustrated by her rude behavior--both in this instance and in past visits--but I have never said anything inappropriate or disrespectful in return. I've always kept my responses calm and professional, even when I felt mistreated. I tip when dining in or when additional service is provided--but not for takeout, and certainly not when the service is hostile. This wasn't an isolated incident. I've experienced Brittany's rudeness before and have witnessed her treating other customers the same way. I've had other staff apologize to me on her behalf and explain she's usually like that. The atmosphere in the restaurant is noticeably more pleasant on the days she isn't there. The food is consistently great, and the rest of the staff are friendly and respectful. But the behavior I experienced from management was completely unacceptable. I hope this is addressed--no customer should be treated this way. read more

This is in response to "Jewel's" review! I'm a regular at Al's and have been for years (old location). I frequently dine in for lunch. I happened to be there when "jewel" visited. The story she posted was not only exaggerated, but completely false. I witnessed the interaction and Jewel was very unkind & rude. Brittany handled it with poise. I interact with Brittany frequently and she is kind, funny, and professional. I couldn't stand seeing the false representation of how this went down, so I had to leave a review. My wife and I look forward to our encounters with Brittany and the rest of the staff. They are like family to us. The food and atmosphere is always a delight. We love when Sergio cooks our pizzas. Everyone is friendly and pleasant. Treat the staff well. I'm sure they deal with their fair share of "jewel's". I love the pizza!!! read more

We got Al's pizza for takeout and it was great! Went in to order it then ran to the grocery to pick up a few things while it was being prepared. Got the Spicy Caribbean Chicken and the BLT pizza. Both were delicious but the BLT was the favorite hands down. Tasted just like a BLT sandwich as a pizza. Used our Teal Deal for BOGO which was a plus too. Pizza was great the next day for leftovers. Really special night for us. All of my granddaughters together for the first time in four years. We called Al's to let them know 9 of us were coming in. They said a large party would be done in 15 minutes and they would set up for us. We got there about a half hour after the call and we had to wait for them to clear. Not too long so we were fine with it. We ordered quite a few appetizers that were very good. Then we ordered 3 large pizzas and one gluten free pizza. They all came out at different times. Ok. They were good. My gluten free pizza was cold and I had to send it back. I can't deal with cool pizza. Cold or hot please. But the gf pizza was good. The service wasn't very attentive. Had trouble with drink refills. But overall the pizza is good as were the apps. read more

Let me start by saying it was a very rainy Friday night. So I expected pizza places to be pretty busy. We were in no rush. I ordered Al's pizza through DoorDash around 6pm figuring I would be supporting a local business as well as having the option for more delivery drivers. I ordered two 14" pizzas. One greek and one barbecue chicken at about $24 each. We have had Al's pizza before and it was really good. About an hour goes by and the order status hasn't updated. Just says preparing your order. The delivery time keeps getting pushed back. Another 30 min goes by and it's still in the same status. I click on the get help with your order button and it says Al's pizza handles their own deliveries and I need to call the store directly. So I click on the phone number and it just says the number is not in service. I try it again and same thing. Suddenly the status updates and says order complete. We checked everywhere out front and no pizzas had arrived. So I reached out to door dash customer service for help. Stated my issue and said we never received our food. So we gave up and placed an order to another local shop. Pizza was delivered about 40 min later. As we are relaxing (around 8pm) our dogs start barking and we realize someone is at our front door. It was the Al's pizza we had ordered over two hours ago. We brought the pizza inside and opened it up. It was completely charred and burnt. Thankfully we had eaten bc it was not edible. I know businesses can get overwhelmed and I know mistakes happen. But we didn't receive a call, update or anything and had no way to reach the store. They should have never delivered a product the way they did. Even if it had been on time it was toast. And for $24 each no thanks. Sadly we will stick with our other local favorites. read more

What can I say? I moved to Jacksonville 3 years ago looking for pizza. Tried everything in town and this place is my favorite! The thin crust cheese is so full of flavor! It's melting cheesy deliciousness is my go-to whenever I need my pizza fix! They have multiple locations in Jacksonville, I favor the Beach Boulevard location. Al's has gone from good (and a good value) to mediocre to downright bad. Their menu shrunk, the quality of the food went down, and the prices went way up. We gave the beaches location a last shot tonight and man was it bad. I ordered a local beer from the menu. Minutes later I'm told they don't have it. I ordered another local beer from the menu with the same result. I gave up and got water. My wife's entree came out ten minutes before my son's pizza, which arrived seven minutes before my tasteless chicken Parmesan sandwich (with a minuscule and additional cost side salad that had no dressing). We had to hunt down another server (ours had disappeared) to get dressings for both salads. There are so many better restaurants for pizza and Italian food within a mile. Skip Al's! read more

This place has a stunning array of different pizzas and offers a cozy comfortable atmosphere. The service is quick and over all it's a must stop on beach days. It is pleasant to have an Al's pizza back at the beaches. We have missed the original Al's pizza since they closed down over a year ago. When we visit this Al's they live up to the standards we always enjoy at all other locations. The staff is friendly. They are quick to serve. They answer all questions with knowledge. The food is still using the amazing recipes of all other locations. The prices are approximately the same. Had our old favorite the BLT pizza but also tried the Italian. Actually most of us preferred the Italian. BLT didn't have much lettuce on it which I would think is the lowest cost topping. The dough is made fresh every single day in house along with freshly cut veggies and hand cut mozzarella. Their salads are get out of this world fresh. From pasta to cannolis- to their daily specials- AL'S is like going home to eat with family. The servers and cashiers are extremely welcoming and can remember what you like after just going a few times. It's nice being remembered in an establishment. Nice decor, friendly staff, so so pizza! Dough recipe needs some work because it had the hold and sturdiness of white bread... over saucing the pie didn't help but to only confirm the flop factor. I've been in the business 35 plus years and I know my pizza. If your not using high gluten flour which I think your not then that's the start of your issues. Absolutely nothing to complain about with this pizza joint!! The pizza was good, my kind of crust, not too thin, not too thick, a little crispy on the edges and chewy and soft too. Toppings were generous but not overdone, good sauce to cheese ratio, too! We've always been fans of Al's Pizza and enjoyed frequent patronage to the Beach Blvd, PVB and original Atlantic Beach locations. This new Al's Pizza IMO is the best of them all - love love love the open concept design of the dining area which includes a huge family style high top table in the center as well as a nice bar tucked away in the right corner of the restaurant! My dinner date and I were fortunate to dine during a Monday night which is $8 Pasta night! Great food entrees we ordered - Spaghetti with Meat sauce and Spaghetti with meatballs! Huge entree portions and delicious! Each entree comes with a very good size salad with the freshest of salad greens and the shredded mozzarella that I love and a very large plate of buttered toasted soft hoagie bread! Service is outstanding and our waitress was very attentive. The restaurant is brand sparkling new clean and expect Monday Pasta night crowds so come before 6pm if you you don't want to wait. read more

Super disappointed with a company that I have watched grow its roots here in Jacksonville since I was a child. Apparently Al's Pizza delivers to all of Jacksonville beach except one specific area not even 5 minutes from their location. I literally live 3 miles from this location but they are unwilling to serve our community because they don't cross beach blvd. I understand having a range you don't go out of but not driving an extra minute seems a bit extreme. I love supporting local businesses so I'm sad to say I won't be supporting AL's pizza but I am happy to know that there's a local mellow mushroom just down the street, sounds like a win to me! Growing up at the Beach, Al's has been a staple in our family since I can remember, but it isn't the same place that we grew to love. The new location in Neptune Beach is pretty and modern, but was not comfortable and felt cold, both literally and figuratively. We went on a cooler evening, so we didn't sit outside and it was absolutely freezing inside. The servers are all young and the service was fine but it was truly missing the Al's feel that it used to have and what some of the other locations still have. There are no comfy booths and frankly it isn't a place I want to go spend time. The food, now that they have restored the original menu, is why we go, though in the future may be getting our food to go. Their BLT pizza is delicious and unique and we love the toasted ravioli as an appetizer! All in all, Al's is still our go to for the BLT pizza, though not if we're looking for a traditional red sauce pizza. But I think the changes really made it lose at lot of the local small business appeal that it once held. read more
