Doesn't look like much when you come in. The service isn't much, but their pizzas are fantastic! Some of the best thin crust around for sure. Remember to bring cash or you'll have to go to the bar next door for their atm. We ordered from the staff making the pizza right when we walked in. We found our own table in their dining area which felt like an old cafeteria. When they brought the pizza they didn't bring any plates so we had to get up and grab our own disposable plates from a stack they had. This place isn't about the ennvironment or the service. It's such a weird place where you think you are being punked. The pizza is good, we have been here a few times. Sadly, the service is outrageously horrible. The owner is beyond rude. My husband and I made the mistake of coming in with water bottles. Owner rudely told my husband he couldn't bring in outside drinks. I had gone to grab a table while he checked in. He turned to get my drink and she gave him crap about not listening to her. He was like I'm getting my wife's drink... He is a pretty easy going guy but was visibly upset when he came and told me he needed to put my drink in the car. She could've handled that so much better than she did. The pizza's are brought out and just dropped on the table. I feel like they are paid to be jerks to their customers. Even though I do like the pizza, I'm so done with this place. I heard the current owner took it over from her mom and grandfather. I feel like she doesn't give a crap about it and is trying to run it into the ground with her and her staffs poor behavior. I love Al's pizza. Everybody seems to love it actually. It doesn't get more authentic than this family owned restaurant, busy every day just pumping out fantastic pizza. The pepperoni here is just better than most places for some reason, but the sausage is great as well. It has that Chicago signature crispy crust nailed. One big thing for me is that even the middle pieces in the square cut hold up well and aren't sloppy or soft. I have only done takeout but there's always a crowd of people for a reason. Pizza is normally amazingly good. Had a bad experience tonight, spoke with Katie who was not open to feedback or interested making things right for a longtime customer. She said she personally cut every pizza out of the oven and didn't see any problem. 1) ordered 14" pizza, received a smaller pizza 2) sauce and cheese not to the edge of a portion of the pizza (which essentially makes the pizza even smaller) 3) pizza was extremely well done, close to burnt 4) pizza was not cut all the way through (not a problem, but maybe training is needed for the person cutting the pizza?) I grew up in Warrenville and had my share of Al's Pizza. The pizza is great+++++++++++++++, one staff member needs to find another line of work. All I asked for was a rag so that I could wipe the table down where my wife and I were sitting and her response was nothing short of a 4th grader throwing a temper tantrum. I never had any issues with any of the other staff except this lady (and it's not the first time). I am friends with Steve (Al's son), and it's a shame they have someone like this representing such a great Warrenville landmark. This is one of those experiences where you feel like you really shouldn't be giving them a five star... but you sit and ponder, and try to find a reason to dock a star... and really, there isn't one! 1. The thin crust pizza is very good. Did you grow up on Totino's? It's like a gourmet crust version of Totino's! Crispy thin, but better flavor! 2. The toppings are fresh and delicious. From the tasty and generous cheese, to the mushrooms, to the rolled sausage... it was all given in generous portions and tasted great! 3. The staff were amazingly friendly, even in the midst of a rush of pizza orders. After reading a few Yelp reviews about bad service, we prepared for a "pizza nazi" kind of moment... but they joked around with us, talked about how long they've been open, and were just good down to earth neighborly folks. Verdict: Great pizza that's been open since 1959... it definitely feels like on of those "everybody knows your name" local places, but as two newbies, we really enjoyed the excellent pizza and superb service. I showed up at 12:33 pm and the guy told me he closes at 1:00PM (-1 star) and would not accomodate my party (2) for lunch. This was a big turn-off. My coworker felt it imperative that I taste this pizza and we return another day, so we did. I agree with a previous poster - Al's is the best in the area. Some would say the best in Chicago. The ingredients are fresh and plentiful. A very satisfying pizza experience. However, if Al's switched to Grande cheese, they would be a national landmark! Guess what? Before I moved to this area, I used to have a bit of a marital issue - my husband and I couldn't agree on the same place to order pizza from. He's definitely pickier, didn't seem to like most of the options, and downright hated the one I liked the most. Well, thanks to Al's, we're finally on the same page in the pizza department. Definitely one of the best thin crust pizzas around. When my parents come to visit, they're always asking if we can order a pizza from there. They are a cash or local check only establishment and they do not deliver. Depending on who answers, the person on the phone can be pretty abrupt, sometimes sounds downright annoyed. I don't mind, it's nothing but friendliness when I walk in. You can call to pick it up or call to have it ready for you to eat in their building. I find that when I show up at the time they say the pizza will be ready, it's usually not ready. Sometimes I even get these perplexed looks like I'm showing up right after I hang up the phone. I usually tack another 10 minutes on to the time estimate, and unless there's some sort of issue going on, it's good to go. There are not a lot of meat options for people who can't eat pork. I have a friend who gets really sick when she eats pork, and their menu doesn't have options I've seen her get at some other places (chicken, ground beef - which I've personally never had on a pizza, etc). One time she was over and they did put chicken on the pizza for her though, which she really appreciated. Of course, a pizza doesn't have to have meat anyway... or so I've heard. read more

They don't have a million toppings but they have the things you need - pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, and onion. That is really all you need. Go sit down and then wait. If you're smart, you can call ahead so you can skip the waiting part. Anyway, the crust on this pizza is thin but not too thin and just right crispy. An excellent amount of cheese and the right amount of toppings. The sauce is tomato-y without being too acidic or too sweet - it's probably my favorite pizza sauce pretty much anywhere. It's not a high service place - you grab your own drink and then the server will just bring your pizza out and if you need something else, you go back to the bar for it. But it works well. My sister & I grew up in Warrenville & we have gone to Al's pizza for years. It was our family tradition for all of us to go to Al's after the Warrenville parade on thhe 3rd of July Last year as requested by Al's we called in our orders the day before However when we went to Al's after the parade Al's was closed. We called Al's & were told the owner would be there shortly. We waited 45 minutes & she never showed up. Arrogance ? Too much success ? Finally made it too Al's last night. Fantastic pizza! Best in the burbs IMHO. We had two pizzas. One half cheese/half pepperoni the other Itl Sausage, Mushroom, and Pepperoni. One of the best thin crust pies you can get in the Chicagoland area. The "Boys" in the kitchen are always friendly and make a consistently good pizza. They get their cheese from up in Wisconsin, if you get in there early enough you'll see em shredding the blocks themselves. If you tip you'll get a "Say thank you boys..." "Thanks!" in unison from everyone. Probably the main reason I tip (beyond the great tasting pie). I think one of the reason the pizza is so good here is the freshness of the ingredients, and their skill at getting the sauce all the way to the edge, and then folding a little crust over it- never a dry bite. Al's is one of those pizza places that has been around for a long time. And after you have their pizza you will know why. Really great tasting, well made pizza. We ordered a large saugage and onion pizza and were so impressed by how good it was! They accept cash or checks so don't forget your checkbook. The staff was really friendly in this humble mom and pop restaurant. I remember that this place was there 25 years ago, so they have some history to them. But I hope they don't change a thing. Yes! This place is the real deal. The location is odd, the restaurant itself is confusing (one door is for the pizzeria the other is for the bar - they seem to be two separate businesses). But the cash-only thin crust pizza is perfection! The pepperoni is better than the sausage, comparatively, but they also have green olives...possibly the world's greatest pizza topping. I would compare this place to Rosati's. Similar in concept and look to their thin crust. But better in every way. I love me some Rosati's, but Al's is the winner! I typically eat 5-6 of their small cut pieces on my way home with take-out. It's too good to wait. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Tried Al's special with cheese, sausage, green peppers, and olives. The pizza joint was pretty busy at 6:00, I should've called ahead to avoid the 35 minute wait, but the time estimate was dead on. The dudes working here were pretty cool, and really care about their establishment. They only accept cash, so you'll have to use an atm machine in the bar it's connected to if you only brought plastic. Now on to the pizza. The biggest stand out from the ingredients was the sauce. The acidity level was perfect for this type of pizza and is really what separated it from others. The taste and texture of this pizza resembles a good homemade pie, but other than that I expected a bit more considering the other high ratings and somewhat pricy pizzas for the size. A few have claimed it's the best pizza in Chicago, I'd have to disagree with that bold statement. I thought the toppings were pretty average, although the green olives were a good choice and the rolled sausage wasn't bad. I can't believe no one has done a review of Al's yet. This is a great little pizza joint located off of Warrenville Rd (not too far from the Winfield/Warrenville Rds intersection). They have a great thin crust pizza and they seem to always be swamped with orders...each and every time I have gone in to pick up our order. They do not have a delivery service but that has never been a problem for us. They have a small dining area that many of the locals eat at -- especially on Friday nights. I believe that the tavern that Al's is connected to also has a fish fry on Friday nights. I give it 4 stars because it would be nice if they delivered -- we really don't have much in regards to places that deliver around here. read more
