I've used (and reviewed) businesses that provide sewing services over years. I was looking for work to be done and for some reason this business did not immediately pop up in the search results. That's unfortunate because it's a great business. It's located near the Oakridge mall and has great parking and is near the light rail station. The owner was friendly and was very easy to work with -- especially because the sewing I needed was not a usual run-of-the-mill project. Communication with her was excellent and she approached the design with creativity. Pricing was very fair as well. Her shop was full of work and the experience was seamless and pleasant. Also, it's not exactly relevant, but the owner was impeccably dressed, down to her nails which could be showcased in an avant-garde magazine. She is just a beautiful classy lady who looks like she should be attending a fine concert. This was an excellent experience. read more

Let me tell you this dress was tailored length TO PERFECTION. I took it in, and was anticipating a long turn around, but was shocked at how quickly they could complete this. DO NOT GO HERE!!! They will rip you off! The upcharge is insane I've been coming here for 5+ years and have noticed the insane increase in pricing. I've also gotten refused many times on a number of clothing items saying it's too difficult, will take too time (making excuses) for simple things like zipper replacement or hem because it was double layered. They refused to help. Came in for a dry clean and was quoted $75+ on a skirt that was double layered, mind you I've gotten the same clothing item dry cleaned before at the same place. Dropped off a Janie and Jack 5 piece 3T suit and a long dress for my 7 year old daughter. Not only did I get charged $48.75, but I received the dress back damaged. Bodice damage, skirt damage, and the lipstick mark wasn't even removed fully. She knocked off $5 because they didn't get the lipstick stain all the way off, but I paid $20 for a damaged dress. She only offered to fix it if I left the dress behind, but then the dress my daughter is supposed to wear for the wedding is no longer an option. She offered to give me a discount when I came back. I called to ask for help in an emergency and willing to pay anything to get something done same day. They had me bring it in and instead instructed me how to do it rather than let me pay. I've been taking my clothes here for three years and you just lost a customer. If I had time to do it, I would but I don't. A skilled tailor is worth their weight in gold for the difference they make in the way your clothes look, fit, and feel. I take all of my alterations here and have been doing so for the last 10 years when Annie fixed for me another tailor's unsatisfactory work. Annie and her team are amazing. She has tailored everything from leisure wear, workwear, and formal wear for my children, husband , and myself. I trust her eye in knowing what looks best and her skills are second to none. TL;DR -- Not recommended. Ten years have passed since my original review of Alteration & Cleaners, and things haven't improved. In fact, my rating of the business has declined to 1 star out of 5 (previously 2 stars out of 5). Service quality has regressed, while pricing has soared. I'm not sure whether I'm out of touch with reality (I doubt it), but I can't fathom how this business has received an overall rating of more than 4 stars out of 5. Here's my latest experience. I needed 2 pairs of slacks tapered, as they were baggy. I also needed 2 pairs of jeans altered (hemmed). Let's start with the slacks. I dropped them off on Friday. The tapered slacks were promised for pickup the following Friday -- a full 7 days after I dropped them off. I went to pick up the slacks on the Saturday after the promised pickup day -- 8 days after I dropped off the slacks, only to discover that the work hadn't even been started! The owner said she'd get on it immediately and call me when the work was done. Well, she didn't call me. I stopped by the following Tuesday and discovered that the tapered slacks were, in fact, ready. Let's summarize what transpired (or not transpired as may be the case), shall we? I gave the tailor (the owner) seven days to complete the work; she hadn't started the work in eight days; she said she'd call me when the work was completed, but didn't; I finally picked up the slacks the following Tuesday, 13 days after drop-off. Thank goodness I didn't need the tapered slacks immediately. Punctuality of service -- one star. Communications -- one star. With regard to the jeans (to be hemmed), I dropped them off on a Tuesday. The tailor promised them that Friday -- 3 days after drop-off. After my experience with the slacks, I was pleasantly surprised. Well, Friday came ... and the work wasn't done. The jeans weren't hemmed at all; they were the same length as when I dropped them off! The tailor wasn't available to speak to me, as she had to leave the store to pick up her child from school. So I had to explain this to her sister, who works there. There was a communications gap. When I picked up the hemmed jeans, the tailor ended up charging me an extra $10 for each pair, because she said I changed the agreed-upon hemmed length. Well, yes, I agreed to the length -- the correct length, if the work had been done at all! When I picked the jeans (that were finally hemmed as agreed to) the following week, another 3 days had passed. So, rather than available in 3 days as promised, the jeans were ready 6 days after drop-off. I was ready to blow my stack, but decided to maintain my composure, pay the surcharge ... and let this Yelp review speak for me. I'm an Asian American. The tailor is Asian. I take pride in supporting small businesses, especially Asian-owned ones. However, I expect good quality work, reasonable pricing, and punctual service delivery -- from ANY business. Failure in all three foundations of good customer service is simply unacceptable. I'm so disappointed. read more

This review is long overdue! I've had great experiences here with dry cleaning and pressing of clothes but last year I needed an alteration for an important event! UPDATE: Hello! So I finally decided to check something off my to-do list and get some pants hemmed and skirts taken in. Annie was there and so helpful! They were busy when I got there but she was able to move things along by having me get to the fitting area while people picked up/dropped off their items. She was quick to pin the hem of the pants and she also worked with me to decide to not keep the original hem. I thought I needed it but she told me that I honestly didn't need to. She saved me $10! Annie was meticulous with measuring the waist on my skirts-- one of them had a pattern and she wanted to make sure it would look flawless! She used some sort of pencil to mark where I needed things to be. It went fairly quickly! For 4 items the pricing was reasonable and I was very impressed by how flexible Annie was with when I would need my clothes for pickup. I wasn't in a rush so I dropped it off on a Thursday and picked it up on Tuesday morning. She gave me my items all pressed and pretty... and they fit me like a glove!! I should've wrote this review months ago, but alas... Life got in the way. I give "Alteration and Cleaners" five stars, because not only is she an absolutely wonderful, warm, and kind person.... Her attention to detail and execution was incredibly impressive. A few months ago I ordered family outfits from Etsy my dress, and my daughters dress came out beautifully, but the Etsy seamstress failed to deliver on my entires order and left off my husband, and my two sons shirts!! My order outlined that I needed to add the Ankara decorative fabric to my husband and my sons shirts! By the time I received my order from the Etsy seamstress, our family had a flight to catch in less than 48 hours!!! we needed those outfits completed for the event we were flying to!! I was scrambling to find any alteration service that would pick up the phone let alone commit to the tight timeframe. Not only did she pick up her phone she's certainly heard the desperation in my voice, and upon arrival, she was empathetic and willing. After such hard work I had spent designing all the outfits months before, she was able to complete my husband's shirt as well as my two sons shirts. Here they are below! She also added structure to the bottom of my daughters dress, so that it had more elevation and balance! I cannot thank her enough for the hard work she did. I had dropped off of $450.00 worth of alterations when I looked inside the bag there was a shirt that hadn't even been fixed and it was cut improperly when I took it back to the woman to fix it she accused me of washing it and it being due to putting it in the dryer. When I attempted to say I wanted it back and I didn't need any work done from her she realized she screwed up and insisted on fixing it.
