I am soo happy I found this place via Yelp! I am getting married on August 1st and needed a place to give me a great deal on alterations and dry cleaning with quality work. I met with Van (the seamstress) for a consultation, she showed me what she was working on and they looked excellent! I told her I was bringing in one of my bridesmaid dress first before I bring my own wedding dress as a trial lol. She did FLAWLESS, I mean just amazing quality compared to even the maker's original hem! I live in Oakland and went to multiple tailoring shops across Oakland and Berkeley to find someone that would shorten my stretched out college varsity knit sweaters, but no one felt comfortable touching the knitting (worried that the sweaters might unravel). Walking into the dimly lit storefront, I encountered an ornery man who didn't offer much in terms of a greeting. I showed him my two items that needed tailoring and our whole exchange left me regretting my decision to not walk out with my items. First off, I had a sweater that had a hole in the underarm. To fix this? Price = $5. Second off, I had a pair of favorite sweatpants that our dog chewed two holes in. I just either needed them sewed up or patched up. The charge? $10! And the man said,"Well, we don't really do things like that." Really now? Doesn't this place offer tailoring services? Being surprised by the exorbitant prices, I literally said out loud, "Are you serious?" To which he did not bat one eye or smile and said, "Yes" in his monotone voice. I then noticed a sign that indicated their business rules, cash only, and pay first. I find this to be a terrible ethic, all things considered. What if service isn't up to par?? Anyway, I didn't even bother giving them a law enforcement work polo shirt I needed tailored down to size--I'll save that for Manuel's on Stevens Creek (a farther drive, but better pricing and exceptional service). The only plus side? Tailoring will only take two days, which, at other places would be considered rush service. I may or may not increase the stars once I pick up my items and can evaluate the workmanship. **UPDATE: Picked up my items and the workmanship is clearly of quality. I could not recommend this tailor enough! Highly satisfied with the exceptional service and skilled quality of work completed on a dress shirt I needed repaired here. The shirt that needed repair had a rather complex tear along the neck band that was deep, highly visible, and jeopardized the holding of the fabric altogether. Annie greeted me at the desk, carefully examined the issue with my article of clothing, and ran through all the options that could solve the issue. Her high level of expertise in tailoring, craft, and repair was immediately apparent. She carefully explained the methods she would undertake through each approach alongside their respective benefits (or cons if there were any which I very much appreciated). I ultimately went with the option she recommended and I am so glad I did! She gave me a very reasonable timeframe and even completed the repair ahead of the expected date personally giving me a call to let me know it was ready. She went through the pricing of every option (everything was very reasonably priced). I was amazed at how my shirt looked when I picked it up as if it was completely new again with no visible indication of alteration. I wanted to like this place as everyone was very friendly and nice. However, they charged me $12 to shorten the straps on a dress, did it incorrectly and then it broke! The alternation was simple, shortening a spaghetti strap, and that could be why they were so careless. I tried the dress on in store to indicate how much I higher I wanted the straps. The tailor quickly glanced at the neckline, made a quick mark with chalk and then signaled she was done. I tried to double check and make sure she knew how much to shorten it but she didn't seem to think it was important. I tried it on again when I picked it up and immediately saw that it was too high. They did not cut the strap and merely resewed it so readjusting would have been easy but I didn't have the extra day for that. Next time I will schedule in an extra 1-2 days for adjustments but I can't help but feel that for something so simple, that shouldn't be necessary. Had the tailor spent more than 30 seconds paying attention to me it would have been done correctly the first time. And to top it all off...the strap BROKE! I wore the dress as I had no other but could feel that it was far too tight on chest. It gave way an hour and a half into my night. I had barely entered the venue so I wasn't doing anything that would have even strained it. If you do come here, be VERY clear and forceful about what you want and make sure they are paying attention or else you may end up very unhappy with the result. read more

Had an pair of expensive jeans hemmed with original bottom here. It turned out absolutely horrible, a really atrocious job. It cost slightly more than other places ($15 as oppose to $10-$12 dollars for the same job), customer service was mediocre and you must make at least half the payment up front. This is my first Yelp review, but I've been meaning to write one up for this place for quite some time now. The first time I came here was in July 2010 - I needed an alteration for a bridesmaids dress. The owner was very sweet and very helpful. She did a great job on the alteration, but it was just a tad bit too tight. She immediately fixed it that same day w/ no extra cost, and the dress came out perfect. A few months later, I wanted to reuse that same bridesmaids dress for a different wedding. However, I needed to alter it again because I was a heffer all summer long, so come November, I put on a few pounds, lol. I made the mistake of going to a different place that was a little closer to home. I don't remember the name, but its the only one in the plaza by Nob Hill on Santa Teresa @ Snell. The service there was HORRIBLE...I tried to explain to that lady that I needed the dress taken out because I gained a little weight, so she had me put the dress on. I obviously needed help zipping it up because it was tight, so when I came out to ask for her help, she started tugging at the dress and tried to force it closed. Then she got this nasty look on her face and said "TOO TIGHT! TOO TIGHT!" and started shaking her head negatively. I looked at her and said "I know...that's why I'm here. I need it to be taken out." But at that point, I was already pissed off, so when I changed back into my regular clothes, instead of coming out to give her my dress, I just bounced. I don't know why I went there...I should've went straight to the place I took it to initially. I ended up calling the nice lady at Alteration & Cleaners, and told her what I needed. She was just as sweet and helpful as she was the first time, and she even remembered me and the dress from months before. She asked when I wanted to pick it up, and I smiled with embarrassment as I told her "As soon as possible because the wedding is tomorrow". But she didn't make me feel bad at all...she jokingly said "Oh my gosh!" but she assured me that she would get it done by later that same evening! And just as the first time, she came through for me...the dress fit perfect, and since she got it done earlier than I asked, I didn't have to stress out the morning of the wedding! read more

Horrible place..... I took a skirt in to be altered and have belt loops put on for my work uniform and the first day I put the skirt on the seam was coming out and the belt loops were crooked. They also but a loop in the front center. I paid $45 to get this done when they originally quoted me $20. When I took it back to be fixed they told me they were going to charge me to fix it. I never knew what great work this place did until I became addicted to designer jeans. Seeing that I'm only 5'1" and most inseams are at least 34", finding this hole in the wall made my day! They charge $14 for original hems and nobody can tell that you had to have them shortened. I also had a dress that needed some fixing - hemmed and straps added, all for $32! I walked in to this EXTREMELY tiny hole in the wall dry cleaners/alterations store, across from the bowling alley. The woman there spoke very limited English, so it was hard to communicate with her. I needed my cocktail dress tapered. She said she wouldnt touch anything with beads or sequins. So, FYI, if you have adornments on the clothing you want altered, she wont touch it. read more
