Nice little alterations shop. Ripped the crotch of my jeans (don't ask). Figured I'd try to save an otherwise good pair jeans and get them patched. I had a few other pairs that needed to get hemmed so I gave this place a try. Guadalupe is a nice lady, very friendly. The hems were $7/ea and the patch was $12/ea. I thought she did a good job and they were ready when she said they would be. Good job and decent prices. Will be coming back when I need something else altered. Free street parking outside but it can fill up. You might have to park around the block. read more

I visit Guadalupe at least once a week it seems. I found her from yelp about a year ago and have been going ever since. I'm on the shorter side so every purchase is a trip to the tailor. Everything is always done within two days and she does beautiful work. I take mostly pants but she's done all types of fabrics for me including stretchy pants made of viscose which I had no clue how they'd turn out but I was happy with the results. I love going to a woman owned business! That's the second reason why I always return. She's got great hours where I can go later in the evening after work and early Saturdays. It's usually less than 5 minutes in and out of there. She usually helps me to pick the length and it always looks as if it hasn't been altered. Guadalupe is a Godsend! I'm seriously crying happy tears as I write this. I bought a pair of pants for vacation online and they were too long. I needed about 3-4 inches of it hemmed, but didn't want to bring them just anywhere because they were a bit pricey and made of delicate fabric. But I leave for my trip tomorrow and was getting desperate! I'm so glad I came across Guadalupe's shop on Yelp. I brought my pants in around 11:45 am and said she could have it ready by 1:30 for an amazingly reasonable price of $15. Just WOW! I held my breath when I went to pick them up only because I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised to see she had managed to hem them with the original stitching -- and possibly did a better job than whoever made them! For many years, I took stuff to Amy's Sewing Shop in Eagle Rock. Last year, she charged me almost the entire cost of a bridesmaid dress I had her alter -- to which she did a mediocre job. I went here based on the good reviews and want to support local business. My jeans were untouched when I went to pick it up on day she said it'll be ready. I told her I'll take my jeans back. I'll take my business elsewhere. I can't say much about her craftsmanship for I do believe she does a good job, but everything else lacks. Her entrance door was locked when I arrived, I knocked 3 times and finally called the business, that's when the door was open by another customer who scolded at me to wait. How the fu*k was I suppose to know? I waited a solid 7 mins outside the entrance, and wasted my time coming here. Parking is very limited, I parked 3 blocks away this time but was lucky the first time, and found parking next to her business. She seems like a nice lady, but is unreliable and lack professionalism. read more

Had some jeans that I wanted altered to match a pair of jeans that I owned. Picked it up today and no alterations were made and yet I still paid! Honestly don't think she understood what I wanted when I first dropped them off. She nodded her head at everything that I was saying. That should have been a clear sign that she had no clue lol. Based on the reviews and having met Guadalupe once, I decided to go with having her alter my evening gown. She made the waist area tighter & reduced the length of the dress, both of which look very professionally done. She is indeed talented & knows what exactly she's doing! And my dress was ready in a week. Regarding language barriers, she does understand basic English words & knows what you need. Don't be afraid to take your time + repeat for clarification and use Google Translate so you're both on the same page. I made sure I understood what she was going to do to my dress & a little help from G-translate, body language, my basic Spanish, and another customer went a long way. She also fixed a button on my top, which works well now, so I do recommend her! P.s. You'll need to pay a deposit, so take cash. There is apparently parking in the back, but I just found spots on the street. read more

I had a dress altered there this past week. Yes, the language barrier was difficult. The owner/tailor really doesn't speak English. I had to draw some diagrams on the back of an envelope to make sure she understood what I wanted. With that said, from this one experience so far, it seems like she really knows what she's doing, and has a life time of experience. My requests for The shirt dress: hemming the length, taking it in on the sides and waist, and taking out the pleated part just below the waist that gave me too much volume below the torso. She hemmed and brought in the top half of the dress to fit my chest and waist, and took apart the construction below the waist and rebuilt the skirt to be an A line that fit and flattered me much better. It looks like it had always been made that way, not worked in later. Language barrier aside, I'm happy to work with her again in the future! Guadalupe is AMAZING! She hemmed my bridesmaid dress beautifully, at a reasonable price and only took 4 business days. Unfortunately, almost a week out from the wedding, the zipper on my dress broke and she was able to replace the zipper in 2 days! She SAAAAVED my dress and I! Initially getting to her business was a bit confusing as there are a few parking lots (some chained and locked) that surround the building, but if you come off Avenue 53 and turn on Gracita Place (between the church and the school), her designated parking lot is to your right. It also looks like there is no way to get to the building without having to walk down Gracita to Figueroa as the driveway gates (that lead to Figueroa) are locked, but there is a maroon gate on the side of the building that you can go through from the parking lot. Once you get to the 2nd floor, you'll see the florescent sign in the window and while the door is locked, all you need to do is knock and she will open the door. Also, she doesn't take any debit or credit cards, but does take Zelle and cash. Would definitely recommend! read more

I'm so happy I found Guadalupe! I had a vision in mind of what I wanted for my wedding elopement dress but I couldn't find anything that fit what I wanted in my price range so I bought two affordable dresses with the kind of lace fabric and train I wanted and I brought it to a tailor down the street from me with great reviews to create a new neckline, low back and add long sleeves. I explained what I wanted done with pictures and he assured me it was completely doable but unfortunately he botched it and I ended up with an unwearable mess (puffy sleeves, elastic everywhere). Fast forward to two months before my wedding. I had given up on creating my own dress and bought an inexpensive dress that I needed shortened before my wedding. In searching for a seamstress near me, I luckily found Guadalupe! I brought both dresses to Guadalupe knowing she would have no trouble shortening the one dress and I had nothing to loose if she couldn't fix the previous tailor's disaster dress. We discussed what I wanted in my broken Spanglish and she drew a picture to make sure we were on the same page. She assured me it wouldn't be a problem. She could fix the previous tailors work and it would look exactly how I wanted. When I came to pick up both dresses, I was shocked! I've gone here a couple of time. Both times to get two different wedding dress's altered. I was a little nervous because I read that the seamstress didnt speak english. But because of the positive reciews, I decided to roll the dice. Yes, she didnt speak any english, but I didnt have a difficult time explaining to her what I wanted. In the end she did a wonderful job! I needed my dresses to be done in a couple weeks, and even though she didnt know I was on a time crunch, she was able to get it done relatively fast and efficientl.
