They had a few beers to choose from which was nice. One thing I did not appreciate, one of the staff, a guy with long hair, multiple times seemed to have gotten upset and even cursed under his breath regarding other customers... Someone at the table next to ours had dropped their water cup and the guy was so visibly angry and mumbling curse words under his breath. You could tell his co-workers felt uneasy around him. There isn't a lot you can expect from restaurants when you order takeout these days, but they really went above and beyond to make my pad Thai look fantastic and appetizing even in a takeout container. I use to absolutely love this place. It was my go to and gluten free friendly, but their service and mess ups on my orders consistently have made me not want to go again. I have been a customer of theirs for many years and tonight was crazy how I was treated. The woman on the phone who spoke to us said her name was June. I called immediately once I got home as it was obvious one dish was missing sauce and another was missing protein. June gave us a very hard time on the phone and wanted us to drive 30 minutes back when gas is $4.50-$5.00 per gallon to get new food made. I explained to her how far we were and how that just wasn't an option. She tried to claim the noodle dish with no sauce was because it was gluten free and lied to me. I've purchased this dish so many times over the last 4+ years and it's simply not true. (And is not okay to put blame on the customer.) She forced me to take a photo of the other dish missing it's protein. Ok, whatever I did it. On my own will took a video of the dish where they did not give me protein and it was very obvious. She insulated I was lying by telling me "the kitchen said they put it in." and told us all she could do was refund us $3 for the missing protein instead. She refused to give us the owners name or hours they'd be in. (My guess is she doesn't want to get in trouble for how rude she spoke to us.) I've never known Alt Thai to be so rude and have such a bad attitude. This is so upsetting and I'm genuinely sad that I never want to return here again after this experience. This has happened just about every other time I've ordered with them in the last year and I'm just fed up. My family has been coming to this restaurant for years! I went here growing up and now go with my husband and daughter. It's a beautiful atmosphere and they newly extended and have more amazing seating. The prices are always fair and the staff is always kind and welcoming. The food is AH-MAZING I've never tried anything I didn't enjoy. You can tell everything is made with love and they strive to be a good restaurant. The Hawaiian entree under chef special is very flavorful with fresh ingredients and the presentation was great. I had the phanaeng curry chicken. My go to everytime I eat out. It was a little disappointing due to the lack of flavor and the texture of the curry was like water, I could not taste any coconut milk. Sadly had to send it back. We also got tempura chicken and salty chicken. The worse service I ever received from a waiter I worked in the F&B industry so I always tip more than the highest percentage option. This time I decided to not tip which is rare even with bad service I would still give a minimum of $5 but this service was terrible. (I had to get up out my seat to go tell the server that was just talking and laughing with other coworkers that they forgot to bring us soy sauce that was requested also my wife would like to order a side of rice and we need refills on our beverages) they never came to check on our table to see how we were doing with everything periodically as a server should they came to take the order and deliver the order and that was it. You pull up outside the restaurant, put on your hazard lights, and call them to notify someone you've arrived outside. All of the employee are taking precautions seriously and they're polite as always. You can't beat strong customer service during such a trying time when essential employees have all the reason to lose their patience with inconsiderate customers. We almost didn't come here, I tried to make a reservation for 4 via the Yelp app and it said it would be over a 2 hour wait. It was Wednesday night so I didn't think that was right. I decided to come to here without the reservation and if there really was a 2+ hour wait Id try my luck somewhere else dt ah. We walked in and were seated right away and were given the choice to sit wherever we wanted. We sat at a table near a window and looked over the menu. I can never pass up crab rangoon so we started with that. Crab Rangoon: cripsy, creamy and fully stuffed. Every bit of this crab rangoon was loaded with the cream cheese crab flavor and finished with a crunch. The dipping sauce it came with was just the right amount of sweet. We ordered crispy salmon basil, duck, shrimp padi thai and spicy seafood noodles. I didnt try my brothers duck but he said he loved it and finished the whole meal. I tried the crispy salmon basil and that was really good! It was coated in a sauces. The salmon and basil leaves were fried and both were crispy, I was surprised, but in a good way. My pad thai was one of the better pad thais I've had. The shrimp in the meal were on the larger side but there werent too many of them. I would order this again as a side and share this with someone and order a seafood entree when I come back. At the end of the meal I let our server know that it was my brothers birthday and asked her if they had any cake, she left our table and when straight to the kitchen and returned with green tea ice cream with a candle on top. We were so happy they were able to make our night a little more special. We sang happy birthday to my brother and left full. This is the best Thai food in the suburbs! It is fresh and delicious and always prepared perfectly. Some Thai food leaves you feeling greasy and bloated, but never here. I love the pad Thai, pad see ew, Panang curry and the steamed chicken dumplings with sesame sauce. They actually make your meal spicy if you ask for "hot." Some places can't do heat, but not here. This was our favorite restaurant, but we were disappointed tonight. I ordered green basil noodles with tofu but decided to just keep it vegetables with noodles without the tofu. I asked the waitress if it wasn't too late to change. She assured me it wasn't too late, but when the food arrived, it had tofu. The waitress took it back and only took tofu off the top. The dish still contained lots of tofu. Our original waitress came back and asked if everything was okay. My husband politically let her know that the dish came with tofu. She didn't do anything until my husband finally asked if there was any chance my wife could get a replacement. She said yes, of course, they are already making it for you. She brought me a SMALL bowl of just vegetables with NO noodles. We were charged for 2 entree dishes and had no sincere apologies. The staff, especially the host, were incredibly friendly and helpful especially because we arrived after our reserved time and were in a rush to catch a show at the nearby Metropolis Theater. Before I talk about the food, I have to talk about the washroom and say that it was spotless, as in so clean that the owners should be training hospitals on how to have clean facilities and not spread germs. You can clean your hands both inside and outside the washroom, love it! Now the food. We ordered chicken pad thai and it was good, though I think it could have used a bit more flavor. But they were very generous with the chicken so that was very appreciated in times when restaurant owners are getting cheap with their meals. Some of the dishes we had were too salty for my taste. The soup with the rice noodles was so delicious . I truly enjoyed the experience of Thai food. Although we ordered extra spicy we had to order hot sauce because it was not spicy enough. The service was very good and the food was very plentiful. We got to take slot of food home yay. We have been going to Alt Thai since they open their door in Arlington Heights. They never disappoint us. Not only the service is excellent, but they also only offer the freshest ingredients in their menu. Unfortunately, we have moved out of state. We have missed eating at this place a lot. We tried to find a Thai restaurant at least at par with Alt Thai here in West Coast, but nothing can beat its excellent cooking and service. Every time we come back and visit Chicago, we would drive all the way to Arlington Heights and always make it a point to go to Alt Thai and pamper ourselves with their cooking and service. Nothing has changed. For us, it is still the BEST THAI RESTAURANT. Fanta, the owner, has a great way of running the business. It was so convenient that you can make a reservation via Yelp! I sent in our reservation request and heard back from the manager within 10 minutes. I am not very experienced when it comes to Thai food, so I was super thrilled to be trying a Thai place as I love trying new things. Our reservations were set for 7:30 and we arrived a little early and were seated right away. The restaurant was fairly small and decorated very nicely. Once more people started to clear out the restaurant had such a quaint and romantic vibe which I loved! Since it was Friday night we wanted to order a few drinks, and our waiter looked at our IDs *my fiancé and I look very young for our age, we are mid-twenties but we both look like we are 19 lol * and he had what I am assuming is one of the owners come over and re-check our IDs just to be sure. This was honestly the only annoying part of the night and that has never happened to me at a restaurant before. I am used to the "wow you look SO YOUNG" comments, which I am fine with by now, but have never had a waiter have someone else check my ID, but I understood he was just covering himself so did not dwell on that. We ordered the Crunch Plate appetizer which was $10 and was accompanied with 3 sauces. My favorite item on the plate was the Salmon Skin roll, it was delicious and I could have eaten 6 more! I also LOVED the coconut shrimp and the homemade sweet and sour sauce. The wine was fairly priced at $6 for a Dark House Chardonnay, which I had two glasses of. For dinner, I ordered the Red Curry with chicken, mild, and my fiancé ordered the Green Curry, medium and with beef. They were both EXCELLENT and the flavors were so bold and delicious. I loved how generously sized my chicken pieces were in my curry! The curry was served with a bowl of Jasmine rice, and we both ran out of our rice fairly quickly. The manager came over to check on our meal and noticed we were out of rice and offered to get us more rice free of charge! That was an extremely nice gesture and confirmed how the restaurant truly tries to provide their customers with the best dining experience. Before we left we were given two sorbets, one was mango flavored and the other was lychee flavored. They were both delicious and an excellent ending to our wonderful dining experience. By far the absolute worse panang curry I've ever had. Watery and made with fennel or something similar. It tasted more artificial than fresh. The lad nar was also gross. The amount of oil is nuts. Their kitchen is completely closed at LEAST a half hour before their listed closing times, so if they list a closing time of 10, and you try to order by 9:30, they are unable to fulfill it. They REALLY need to update their hours to avoid customer frustration.
