Late night food option. Thought we'd give it a second or third chance. Really sloppy terrible excuse for Mexican food. This is not Mexican food. It's a disgrace. "Guac" out of a plastic bag, not actually guacamole. Carne Asada fries were undercooked greasy anemic trash. Clearly frying oil not to temp or pulled before done. I will not be going back. I know Colorado is not known for amazing Mexican food but cmon, how hard is it to cook fries. A kid in a dive bar kitchen can cook fries. We can do better people. They refused to put cheese on carne asada chips. Really? I'm paying $20 for this trash. I could run this kitchen better with my eyes closed and 1 hand tied behind my back. 5 stars all day I'm Hispanic and from Cali, so I'm picky about my Mexican food. Stopped by for a chorizo burrito add beans...it was perfect! My husband and I shared one and it was the right amount of food. The red salsa was the perfect amount of heat and the green salsa was an unexpected hit! Like a pablano salsa. Prices are fair. Customer service was good. Good amount of seating inside and clean. We will be back for sure read more

Was excited to give this place a try based on the reviews. My breakfast burrito was bland and dry. The egg was way overcooked and chewy and there was hardly any cheese. It didn't taste like they even added salt and the potato pieces were mushy and bland . They also threw small containers of hot sauce in the bottom of the bag upside down and by the time we discovered it they had spilled all over everything in the bag. Probably won't return because good breakfast burritos can be found other places. read more

I've given this place a few chances but it's never a hit. The main issues are their "guacamole" is nothing of the sort, it's avocado crema and lacking on the avocado. Food is lacking flavor so salsa is usually a saver but the red salsa tends to be a bit bland but spicy and the green is very watery and not flavored like anything tomatillo related. Service is good, but for 2 "avocado" tostadas, fries and a drink I paid $22...you've gotta be crazy it wasn't even $12 worth of food. read more

Had a sausage and egg breakfast burrito yesterday. It was the worst I've had in many years. The sausage was dried out as if it was made the day before. Guess it may have drawn the moisture out of the egg because it was dry as well? The salsa bar selection was very good read more

I love their beef tacos. They are just like what I get when I go home to Arizona. Never had a bad meal here yet. Very good.

We wanted to love this place, but after two visits, we consider it just "okay". We ordered a breakfast burrito and it was huge, maybe too huge. But it was dry and lacked flavor and didn't have any sauce of any kind inside. On our second try, we ordered chips and guac (with entrees). "Guac" is sort of green sauce (see photo) and not what I consider guacamole. The meat in the carne asada tacos was tough also. Nice people and the place is always clean, but the food experience is not all that good. read more

Awesome breakfast burritos. I'm in from out of state for a convention, jonesing for a great breakfast burrito. I was not disappointed! I went off menu with carnitas and chile verde sauce. It was amazing. My friend got the ham breakfast burrito and also really enjoyed it. The lovely woman at the drive thru was really polite and flexible with my requests. The drive thru was a very reasonable wait time. Definitely worth a stop. read more

I do really love this place but they've been short on the cheese lately. Can I get some cheese on these nachos please? I had to add my own when I got home. The whole point of getting nachos is huge amounts of cheese on chips. read more

Expanding from their 2 locations in the Denver area, Alvarado's recently opened in the former Taco John's location - just East of I25 and Hwy392. They claim to be "Mexican fast food", but it's much more like a really nice Mexican restaurant with a drive-through option. The menu looks more much like a sit-down location, and the food is actually better than one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, Pueblo Viejo (just a block away). The interior is very bright and clean with several smaller tables, along with some simple and colorful Mexican decorations. The staff was friendly and helpful as we explored the menu for the first time - offering plenty of suggestions and answering our questions. This would be an ideal place to stop and grab Mexican food to take home after a long day. It's really delicious. read more

Legit fast food Mexican joint on 392 just east of I-25! Now I've done multiple reviews for these type of restaurants (Almanzitas, Tatas, etc)) in Colorado and I'm currently giving the gold to Alvarado's over Almanzita's by virtue of longer open hours and drive thru. I haven't had anything bad or scary in 4 visits and they're proximo to much of my activity. You can still down if you like, and they even have a smallish outdoor area. Formerly a Taco John's and next to a gas station, they're even convenient for folks just passing through. read more

Their hours say they open at 6am (on the door) but in reality the workers sit in their cars till 7-7:30. I wasn't expecting much but as a blue collar worker in the road constantly I really like to have my breakfast before a long day and this is one of the few places that was "open" read more

This is the first time we've been to Alvarado's, just thought we would do the drive-through. Both of us ordered a burrito, my husband was the Carne Asada. Mine was just the refried bean supreme, and I have to say they were both excellent. We thought it might be a little high in price however they are a meal in their self so the price was well worth it. If you're driving by definitely try, the burritos are excellent and we will go back to try something else. read more

The owners took an old Taco John's and did an extreme makeover. Improved it in every way. Very authentic menu including excellent tortillas and refried beans that make many dishes taste great! All the food was just so amazing. I went there this morning for a breakfast burrito ended up with two of them. They're about $10 apiece but they're a very nice size. You could eat them for two meals if you want, I got a chorizo, breakfast burrito and a bacon breakfast burrito they remind me of viva's in Denver kind of an authentic Mexican fast food burrito you can tell from the tortillas and some of the food and also the menu. I'm so excited to have this place in my neighborhood. I'm always looking for somewhere to go after work and it can be kind of a pain but now this place will definitely fill the void. This place is in Windsor up by I 25 and the Windsor exit it used to be a taco John's. I'll probably go again tomorrow for breakfast. They have a nice big menu this place is gonna get really busy so hurry and get your food. read more

The food is ok, tacos are pretty large for the price, the wait in drive thru was quite long even though they didnt seem very busy, but the plastics bags used and styrofoam containers are NOT needed, restaurants can package more sustainable for sure. So won't be returning. read more

The food was okay but it was very pricey for "fast food". We got one combo plate, one burrito and had to get a side of rice and beans because that burrito didn't come as a combination. And we did not get drinks. This plus a tip came to $42!!!! But we were hungry and had to get going so I didn't say anything. But the more I'm thinking about it, we could have gotten a meal at a sit down restaurant with drinks (maybe even alcoholic) for this much. Alvarado's I'm sorry but we won't be back.... read more

we got the steak and sausage burritos and they are wonderful. a bit pricey but worth it. we had to get one to take to my hubby at work.

We ordered beef burritos with no lettuce and tomato. Both were served with tomato. The burrito had peppers and onions in it, none of which were listed on the menu. We also ordered a smothered bean burrito and the sauce was so hot, couldn't even eat it. Needless to say, the food ended up in the trash. Waste of $50! read more
