Well, despite having a reservation, and you get a table in the darkest corner where they need to bring you a light...not a good start. I had to ask about our food ( hamburger, enchilada, and lamb chops). And instead of telling me she would check on it, waitress said "it's coming". Obviously didn't check on it because the lamb was cold. This could have been a problem in the kitchen not timing everything right. Service was so so, no one came to offer to refill water glasses. Maybe because our table was in a dark corner. Lamb chops were served cold. French fries were too salty. Margarita and mojito were watery. Finally got lamb and it was very good. Amaya at the Hotel Santa Fe is one of the lesser known wonderful places to eat, the place is beautiful, peaceful, with lovely fireplaces and lighting. It's my favorite place to go, and I think people looking for a wonderful restaurant don't even think to go here, but it's just a beautiful, spacious place to enjoy the delicious food and atmosphere. The Hotel Santa Fe is also a favorite, it's partly owned by the Picuris Pueblo, and the artwork is glorious, and on Thursday and Saturday nights, often a native flute player plays next to the fireplace. read more

The Amaya was a gorgeous restaurant inside a gorgeous hotel. It was too cold to eat outside in the tepee but they let us take pictures of it. The food was delicious and service outstanding. After dinner we sat and listened to Native American music by the fire. Definitely recommend. read more

Tried: - lamb chops appetizers: perfectly cooked lamb chops on top of polenta and side of chimichurri...finger lickin' good! Portion large enough for dinner for someone with small-medium appetite. HH pricing...Bang for the buck! - chili relleno (also HH menu) topped with green chili is also very good and very rich. Tempura battered and stuffed with corn and squash. - elk tenderloin rubbed in very nice spice. Super tender and flavorful. We got sauce on the side and didn't really use it since the rub had a great flavor. - lotsa, lotsa corn bread and French bread with butter..yum!! Service was excellent! What can I say about this little gem... We are on a girls trip and decided to do our own Margarita trail. We ended up at Amaya. Misty, the bartender went above and beyond to accommodate us. To quote from the restaurant's website... "Our chefs source the best possible ingredients." This was not my experience at all. The bison burger I ordered was said to be served on a "butter brioche bun" but what was served to me looked like wonder bread right out of a plastic bag. It was not even close to brioche either. The burger itself was mediocre at best. I've honestly had much better from the likes of "In-N-Out". The server dropped off a big plastic squeeze bottle of ketchup to wash it down. One of the first ingredients listed was High-fructose corn syrup. For those who don't know, this is amongst the most unhealthy of ingredients found in processed food. It's basically poison. That being said, it's commonly found in fast-food restaurants and grocery stores. It's a bit surprising to find it in a high-end hotel restaurant though, especially one that claims to source the best possible ingredients. I asked for some mayo instead, or preferably, aioli. They brought me some single-serving packets that contained corn syrup. Mayonnaise with corn syrup. Yup. $20.00 for a #$%! burger, really?!? Never again. read more

You often pay a premium for meals at hotels but the tasty fish and chips I enjoyed at Amaya ($15) was a real good value. The meal included four battered pieces of cod, a huge pile of chile fries and an ample serving of delicious coleslaw and a chile tartar sauce. It's a nice looking place, but both the food and the staff are bad beyond belief. Two of us ordered crab cakes. What came were crab cakes not only full of breading, but crazy-full of salt. Inedible. We sent them back to the kitchen. It was basically the $1 crab cake you can buy at a grocery store, but loaded full of salt. The grocery store crab cakes are not much fun, but at least they are edible; this was not. So then my partner ordered a salad with mahi, and I ordered something else. She also ordered the dressing on the side. The mahi came full of salt, while the salad came pre-dressed. The manager came out to see why we were unhappy. So we told her that not only were the original dishes ludicrously over-salted, but the replacement had excessive salt too. She tried to explain to us that "some people like it that way." That kind of excuse is totally unacceptable. But it is also unacceptable for any restaurant trying to be something better than Joe's Greasy Spoon to over-salt their dishes. We had to explain to her that customers can put salt on, but they can't take it out. Duh. What kind of a manager needs to have such basics explained to them?! What was even worse, is that instead of being apologetic, she tried to imply that she would be doing us a big favor by taking the charges for the inedible food we sent back to the kitchen off the bill! We also got attended to by the hostess. And this was scary. It appears that she is suffering from some mental health issue and interacts with the customers in a very disturbing way. Hard to describe the quality, but it was not just unpleasant but actually felt scary. I will also add that our waiter did not present an appearance concordant with an upscale restaurant. You have some expectation that at upscale establishments, the staff will present an appearance that is at least somewhat classy. Our waiter looked like a bouncer from a tough biker bar. A much better meal could be had at a Ruby Tuesday's or a Chili's. I have been to these and other similar chain restaurants, and never got a crazy-over-salted dish. I also never encountered systematically unacceptable staff. The Amaya restaurant is totally unacceptable for an upscale hotel. Guests at the Hotel Santa Fe really have to be directed to go anywhere else but there to have their meals. read more

We came here for dinner on a weekend and the atmosphere was absolutely wonderful. Surprisingly it wasn't crowded and we got a seat right next to the roaring fireplace. It was a nice touch considering that it was a very chilly night, And our server was veey accommodating to our food allergies. My husband had a salmon salad and I had the bison burger topped with green chile and a side of French fries. It was all delicious, but if you're not a fan of spicy food I'd recommend steering clear of the chile... Or stocking up on a gallon of water! All and all it was a very pleasant experience, however we spent about $50 that night on dinner for the burger and salad, so budget accordingly. Still a very nice choice for a night out, just slightly higher prices than I'd usually spend for these items. read more

Let me just start off by saying that this place was amazing and I was impressed! You walk into the restaurant and it has a fancy feel to it. My group started off with our orders of margaritas we had prickly pear and hibiscus margaritas. They were delicious and strong. They give you this amazing cornbread muffin and bread before your meal and it is great. Now the meals were outstanding our group got the elk sirloin , buffalo ribeye, and the Cuban sandwich with sweet potato fries. All meals were absolutely outstanding. The ribeye was juicy and tender bursting with flavor. The elk was super tender and also delicious. The Cuban sandwich was good but the sweet potato fries were outstanding. Our waiter Wess was amazing and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. If you are visiting Santa Fe you need to stope here you will not be disappointed! read more

I love Amaya. We made a last minute reservation for 11 and were fortunate enough to to have gotten a table here for a late dinner. Once everyone arrived, we actually had 12 and they were very accommodating. We sat at a big round table up front and could hear the beautiful live music from the lobby area. The service and staff were wonderful. The menu had many excellent options and the vegetarian options were labeled. I asked for modification and our server came at me with an even better option. Overall, the entire ambiance is relaxing and feels special. It was a wonderful dinner and I would return and recommend. read more

We ate lunch and an early dinner at Amaya while staying at the Hotel Santa Fe. The Picuris Salad was so good that I ordered it twice. The shrimp tacos were also excellent as was the vegetarian tortilla soup. It was a pleasant surprise to be able to get the soup that was not ruined by chicken broth. The Homemade Chocolate Bar was in the top 10 deserts I have ever tasted at a restaurant - and I have tried a lot of chocolate desserts! Looking for a quiet, spacious and beautiful place for breakfast or lunch? You can't lose at Amaya. Haven't had dinner there, but the huevos rancheros are the best in town! One time I brought a friend who had avocado toast with an egg. I wasn't very hungry, but they graciously brought me a single delicious blue corn pancake with real maple syrup. Breakfast quesadillas are huge and very good. I usually bring leftovers home. The chicken enchiladas are great and also big portions. If you want to have an actual conversation over a meal bring your guests to Amaya. The Hotel Santa Fe, where the restaurant is located, is owned and run by Native Americans from Picuris Pueblo. The artwork, weaving and background music are a special treat for your out-of-town guests. Fireplaces provide a warm place to hang out in winter. In summer the glass doors to the garden are opened so it's almost like dining outdoors. You can even reserve the tipi for a private dinner for 10. This seems weird to me since Pueblo people don't event use tipis, but I guess it's kinda fun for tourists. Highly recommended. read more

So where I am from, eating and hanging out at the hotel is, well, a joke. In Santa Fe it most be different because this hotel had a top notch restaurant and amazing entertainment each night. We had plenty of different drinks like the jalapeño margarita, prickly pear margarita, etc. and all were good. What was excellent was simply coming back to the hotel, walking downstairs and having an incredible Tuna Poke bowl, a few drinks and listening to live flaminco guitar one night and Spanish classical guitar and flute the next. A nice restaurant inside the Hotel Santa Fe. It's decorated well and the service is nice. The food is OK, a little bit over-priced compared to non-hotel places, which actually makes it a good restaurant to take someone to impress them for a fancy dinner. (I noted they even had a teepee you can eat in outside, probably for an extra charge.) There are nice LED-candles on each table, and there was some live music earlier in the evening. The vegetarian option is a stuffed chili with quinoa. It was very good, though you could probably get better elsewhere. (For those intimidated by chilies, fear not, this was not a hot dish... personally I would have liked a stronger punch.) They have some dishes like elk on the menu, as well as scallops (in New Mexico?) but hey, I'm just a visitor, so maybe those are actual local favorites? Overall, a good experience. We booked the Christmas Day buffet. What we didn't realize is we were the last seating at 5:30. The food was cold and limited. The deserts were almost completely gone when we visited the table. When I asked about the limited choices and cold food, I was told we were the last seating. Keep in mind this was an $80 per person buffet with an automatic 20% gratuity. Basically $100 a person for a meal that would be disappointing if it was $20 a person. Hate to blame the staff working on Christmas Day but it was crazy to spend almost a $1,000 for something so pitiful. read more

This restaurant was so good! We stayed at the Hotel Santa Fe for a little over a week and so we decided to eat here one night. The food was delicious! I had their salmon dish and it rivaled some $50+ salmon dishes I have eaten despite being only $30! Everyone else loved their food, too. The waitress, whom I do not know the name of, was very friendly and helpful. My brother ordered an appetizer, and she made sure he had enough food. And, we also ate here for their Thanksgiving buffet, which was delicious, too. Overall, I really enjoyed Amaya and will surely be back! read more

Phenomenal, and the BEST Sangrias (Not even Seville/Spain) measures up to them. Now I am bias, our friend Ronald Roybal plays the Native American flute here, so the ambiance is extraordinary!!! The great kiva room is fab for meeting friends and listening to live music, if you are lucky and he is there :))). We have been going for years and the Prix Fix is the best deal in town. This is a review on the bar only, and not the restaurant. Every once in a while, I like to kick back with a chilly drink with visiting friends before they have to go back to their city, state, or country of origin. I usually end up taking them to the bar at Amaya because it's really kick back, has couches, and the drinks are reasonably priced. You can have a low key conversation and hear yourself think instead of the more "busy" (ie... loud) bars and clubs in the downtown Santa Fe area. And if you LIVE downtown, it's more than convenient to walk back to whichever hotel your guests are staying at. I like it, but still only hit this place up a few times a year because it's all about the context wou want to portray to your visiting guests. read more

I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday. We traveled from Colorado Springs. I am very pleased and felt this was a memorable and unique experience. I came specifically for the Hotel's entertainment, Ronald Roybal. He is a Native American flute and Spanish guitar player. He plays guitar for the first set and then switches to flute, using some guitar recordings for accompaniment. I don't think there is anyone in the world with that skillset and would not be surprised to see this musician in a large concert hall. The intimate setting was great. I have to say everything was to my liking. I came for the music, but the dinner dazzled me. I had a trio grill of rattlesnake/rabbit sausage, bison steak, and quail. Everything was grilled to perfection. There was mashed potatoes, spinach, asparagus, a carrot, and some snow peas. All was excellent. In addition, we got a bottle of Spanish Rioja off the wine list. I like dry wines, and this wine was simply spectacular. To top it off, the service was immaculate. Very friendly servers who were very to happy to have us there. I felt welcome and at home. One server even exchanged some banter and a funny story that put us at ease. After dinner, we sat and listened to the remainder of Ronald Roybal's set and even purchased a few CD's. Whether you go for the music or the food or both, you will not be disappointed. I intend to come back here the next time I am in town. If you're a Santa Fe resident, I don't know what you're waiting for. This was by far my best experience in my stay in Santa Fe. read more

We went for lunch, so I can't speak to how dinner is. It may be spectacular. Lunch wasn't. My mother-in-law was eager for a Native American experience, and this was the best we could find. Service was spotty -- a glum, unsmiling host balanced by a kind and friendly waitress and some attentive drink refilling. The food was okay, but nothing spectacular. Husband had the fry bread, which was fine, but lacking...something. I had a salmon salad which was quite nice but nothing to write home about. My mother-in-law picked the bison burger, which may have been the best of our picks. Pretty delicious, especially with all the green chiles. Glad we didn't splurge for dinner here, as I suspect it would have been equally average. Don't think we'd plan on going here again. read more

A good restaurant leads with its help. Lawrence, the restaurant manager was friendly, courteous and kept a sharp eye on the floor. Odal, our server, could not have been nicer. His food recommendations were spot on, his service attentive and smile unbeatable. Leidy, our table attendant, was not intrusive but always kept our bread basket and waters full, our dishes removed when appropriate and kept the coffee hot. These folks represent the food well. The kitchen polished the evening dining experience with deft and artistry. Tge salmon and elk dishes were two of the best we have ever had. The elk, from the indigenous portion if the menu, was unbelievably tender, tasty and presented perfectly. Give this place a try...it will be worth you time and money. In fact, because of the restaurant, we plan to return to Santa Fe to stay at the Hotel Santa Fe. read more
