I recently had lunch at Vinaigrette and asked a friend to meet me who had never been. I was excited to introduce her to a restaurant I've always thought was first rate and worth the wait as it can get very crowded. I'm not sure what's happened to Vinaigrette, but the entire experience was completely disappointing. I asked the server to bring bread with our meal and was presented with some kind of focaccia bread stick that was hard and stale. What happened to the wonderful bread that used to be served there! I ordered the Tuna Salad, and my friend ordered the Beet Salad. While there was a generous amount of tuna, it was shredded into very small pieces and the salad was dry. It was completely underwhelming and unsatisfying. My friend commented the dressing on her salad was very sweet and the pistachios were ground up into the goat cheese. I'm very surprised at the quality of the dishes as I've never had a less than great experience there prior to this experience. I hope this was an isolated incident but will think twice about returning. read more

Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because, with the exception of our primary server, Vinaigrette staff was inattentive. Upon arrival, I informed the bartender (at a time when the restaurant was not busy) that I'd sit outside. She acknowledged me, invited me to take a menu, and then failed to tell the server that I was sitting in the back patio area. By the time the server saw me, she apologized and said the bartender hadn't informed her. After our server clocked out, her replacement was slow or distracted, never offering me a second beer or ensuring our waters stayed full. Our actual server, though, was outstanding. She's tried enough of the menu items to be able to provide detailed information and smart suggestions. We liked her a lot! Management material, IMO. Started with the Bow & Arrow dark lager and a cup of the mushroom stew. I thought it was a great combo and paired well with the fresh focaccia, which was a steal at $2 for 4 slices (served with quality EVOO and balsamic)! Perfect stew dunker and salad companion. For entree, I got the pepita salad, and my friend got the pear-fessor. We both enjoyed our choices. Cumin dressing in the pepita was light and bright, and it's one of the few salads that comes with a protein (shredded chicken). Lovely little tables on front and back patios. 22% is what owners of this New American restaurant decided that I must pay my fair share, but only you can decide what's fair. But aren't you exempt of the minimum wage law, aren't you? It seems that you are balancing your payroll on the backs of your customers, do we? Although why not just charge 25%, but you advertise no gratuity included, what a trip. Food was so so, nothing exceptional go back to the good Old American cuisine, oh there's those pesky under appreciated kitchen staff at it again. From what I saw looks like ambiance was done on the cheap. Yesterday I dined at Vinaigrette in Santa Fe. This included a cup of the mushroom stew and splitting a "The Beet Goes On" salad. The stew was very good. However, the salad, while tasty, was disappointing; the entire thing, for both of us, appeared to contain a single slice of a rather small beet - in short, the beet did not go on, or at least didn't go far. The amount of goat cheese seemed a little diminutive as well. I compliment Vinaigrette on the overall taste of the salad. To steal a phrase from Arlo Guthrie: "But that's not what I came here to talk about..." What I came here to talk about is something that appeared on the final bill - a completely unexpected 2 percent "Kitchen Appreciation Fee." We did not see this anywhere on the menu nor did the server mention it. It does not seem to appear on online menus, and Vinaigrette doesn't appear to discuss it online. Research shows that this is becoming more and more common. It is sometimes described as a way to increase kitchen wages (addressing wage disparity between kitchen staff and servers) "without increasing prices." How dropping a 2 percent surcharge isn't "increasing prices" is a bit beyond us; to our way of thinking, and apparently to the way of quite a few other people's thinking, it's just a sneaky way of - well - sneaking in a price increase without calling it that in order to cover a cost of doing business that patrons assume is part of the offered price. However, in a lot of cases, under some common circumstances, it may also be not entirely legal. Specifically, it's not entirely legal if it isn't disclosed up front. Under New Mexico's consumer protection framework, if a restaurant charges full menu prices and then adds a fee to cover normal operating costs without disclosing it, that can be considered: - A price increase disguised as a fee - Deceptive pricing - A hidden surcharge A business violates New Mexico's Unfair Trade Practices Act if it: - Makes a misleading or deceptive representation in connection with a sale - Fails to disclose a material fact - Creates a false impression about the total price - Adds charges that a reasonable consumer would not expect Vinaigrette's Kitchen Appreciation Fee seems to hit on all counts, at least in my opinion. read more

Cute restaurant. The interior was done well. Lots of natural light and open space. I really dug the color scheme with the fun greens and oranges, giving the place a pop. I ordered la pepita salad with steak. It was one of those dishes where I had a hard time deciding if I liked it or not. I did finish it, so it must've been at least pretty enjoyable. The cucumber lime refresher was good but tasted more like a flavored water than a juice. Our friend recommended we try their bread, but it wasn't anything special lol. Our waiter was super nice and friendly. However, the service was super slow. There was a zoning mishap in the beginning, so it took 15 minutes for us to be given waters/menus. The server apologized. The food also took a while to come out. The server again apologized and gave us a carrot cake on the house. I love carrot cake, so it honestly made everything worth it lol. The food was delicious. I ordered the apple and cheddar salad. I was pleasantly surprised when they bought me some sauted pork to add to it. It was a really nice add to the flavor profile. My son had the roasted veggies and provolone sandwich which he enjoyed. Our services was excellent. She was very responsive to our needs. The atmosphere was nice and clean. I ordered their Nicoise special salad of the day. The tuna did not taste fresh. I asked for wasabi, thinking that would help. No wasabi, no sauce to help. I asked if I could exchange the salad. I had taken only one small bite of the tuna. The waiter said no. I used my friend's salad dressing which at least masked it. But stupid me, I ate the tuna. The rest of the salad was soggy, surely had been sitting out. Net net, I've been sick since. Such a shame. I used to really enjoy the salads there. read more

All good news! Why only 3 stars? First, the floor was dirty. Food and napkins left behind. Second, the menus were sticky. All three on our table were filthy! Third, even the bathroom door was sticky. There is tipping again (and has been for a couple years) and employees are paid about industry standard and rely on their tips. During Covid-19, employees were paid much more and there was no tipping as a standard. There is no host. Just head to the bar to get menus and it is open seating (with the caveat that parties of 2 or less are restricted to the 2 top (2 person tablets) outside). A server will come shortly to check in with you. From my previous review with some modifications to help people find their way: What a lovely place. The dining room atmosphere is so warm and open with lively, bright colors, but understated enough that it's not a sensory assault. The menus are wonderfully designed with an attractive, open layout (just get a specials menu and a drink menu too). Appetizers/small bites are on the right. There are desserts, but it is not on the menu. Typically, you have a lemon cheesecake (with a divine raspberry sauce), a flourless (gluten-free) chocolate torte and the only carrot cake that I've ever liked. The carrot cake isn't gritty and doesn't taste like you're force feeding yourself something healthy in the guise of being dessert. It is dessert. Seasonally there is also pie available. The staff are friendly and helpful, including the owner that never introduces herself as such. One gets the sense that the owner and staff designed a restaurant with carefully, thoughtfully curated experience in mind. I perused the outdoor seating and found it lively, a different ambience, but I happen to love eating outside. The higher energy, for me, would be perfectly offset by how calming and natural outdoor dining feels. It's always nice to have options, right? The menu has a fairly strong health focus, but it doesn't feel anti-carnivore or lacking in some indulgences. The wait staff mentioned items not on the menu and I ordered 2 of them, the artichoke soup and a substitution on the Salacho salad. The artichoke soup was a lovely rendition, citrusy, creamy and full of complex flavor complemented beautifully by parmesan and croutons. The salad had a lovely, light feel, but I preferred to get a little more dressing which was handled immediately upon asking. I also ordered a health tonic with ginger, turmeric, carrot, a dash of ginger simple syrup. and San Pellegrino seltzer. I love this place. The combination of great, healthy food and an unpretentious, but well thought out atmosphere is almost unheard of. I can't wait to come back. The soup which I picked up for my parents was a huge hit with them. Unfortunately my wallet took a substantial hit as well. Finding Vinaigrette was a bit difficult and entering and exiting even more so, as it's done through what can only be described as an alleyway and if you meet a car coming out as you're going in one of you has to back up. I'll go back of course for my parents because they're hard to please and Vinaigrette does so, but probably not for myself. read more

Amazing salads. Wish I lived here so I could try everything on the menu. It was a challenge to pick one. I can't quite remember the name of the salad I had. I think it was a Vinny's paillard? Very thin, seared chicken breast topped with perfectly dressed arugula, some sort of very mild chili, pine, nuts, and avocado. So original and very delicious. Vinaigrette is truly a gem! Their organic locally sourced foods are so delicious, and their chefs know exactly what they are doing! Everything from the appetizers, to the soup and salad, to the main entrées and the desserts-- everything is delicious! I especially love the service there, as they are welcoming, attentive, and informative about each dish. I have eaten at Vinaigrette many, many times. They have some innovative salad recipes that are quite wonderful. Unfortunately, they are inconsistent in their quality. This is actually the kiss of death to a restaurant because when a customer pulls into the parking lot and has an expectation for what they're going to enjoy for lunch or dinner, and what they're actually served is substandard, it is not good for business. That is exactly the situation that my friend that I experienced today for lunch. The food wasn't good nor were the drinks. It was so disappointing. Our bill was $66 so we should've had a lunch that we enjoyed. We just aren't going to go back. Their inconsistency has become consistent. read more

It use to be one of our family favorites in Santa Fe for healthy lighter meals but after dinning there yesterday it was completely different and disappointing. : ( The service was incredibly slow and almost non-existing. When the waiter did show up he was cheerful and energetic but then crickets would set in. It actually felt confusing?! We had to ask for our drinks (when we would finally see someone) and then they were served after our meal was served. My ice tea was forgotten until I asked again... The Greek salad was almost entirely cucumber bits and cheery tomato halves. Only 2 black olives and very few small feta crumbles. So disappointing and with little flavor. I finally gave up scooping cucumber triangles onto my fork. Ugh..$120 bill for 4 people and no one felt fulfilled by this experience. read more

If it's not obvious from the myriad pictures of the same dishes, we had something of a love affair with Vinaigrette during our New Mexico trip which involved half a dozen meals (including takeout for the airplane!) during a weeklong visit. We went to both Albuquerque and Santa Fe but were partial to the latter. The salads were phenomenal (and that's coming from snobby coastal San Francisco standards). Extra big props for the exceptional tofu that was offered as a protein sub. So often the vegetarian options are an afterthought and so often tofu is a flavorless choice that justifies widespread aversion to it, but this tofu is what I'd use to make converts of carnivores. It's not enough to take off a star, but the service was pretty inconsistent and several times they brought chicken on the salad when we clearly asked for it without meat. Also, we were told different things about items' availability by different staff members. But the food itself wins out over the questionable waiting. read more

We were vacationing in Santa Fe and discovered that not much is open in Old Santa Fe on Monday night. We found Vinaigrette within walking distance of our B&B. Husband and I each ordered salads. I had the Eat Your Peas option. Husband had the Frise with duck confit. My salad was good but maybe had a little too much cheese which overwhelmed the other ingredients. I added the lemon chicken. Also ordered the gumbo soup which had amazing flavor. I wished I'd ordered a bowl instead of a cup. We also got dessert to go. Highly recommend the lemon cheesecake. I have usually enjoyed the food here and have a been a patron for well over ten years. Sometimes service is lacking, and that can happen. But the reason for 2 stars is for neither of the aforementioned reasons. When I last dined there, I casually reviewed the check and it had two charges, just over a dollar each, one before tax and one after. They were labeled "KAP". For clarity, I asked a server walking past the table (ours had disappeared) what KAP was, I was told it was a "Kitchen Appreciation Fee." Really? If you are going to attempt to charge this without mention, it frankly appears deceitful. Don't short sell your customers. If you were upfront about this charge and and explained it, you'd invite the possibility to actually get more buy in, thus collecting more for the back of the house. I know I'd toss a little more their way. no problem. Otherwise, there is a substantial chance you're simply going to piss off loyal patrons - It's not about the money guys, it's about transparency. read more
