This was our first time at an Amazon Fresh store. The lady up front explained how everything worked and afterwards we went and shopped around. They seemed to have great deals so we had planned to start coming back more regularly. As an Amazon Prime customer I've shopped at Whole Foods before and scan my code at checkout but always use another form of payment (Apple Pay, card, or cash) not the cards linked to my amazon account when paying. But I do enjoy the occasional extra discounts offered to Amazon Prime customers so got in the habit of scanning my code at checkout at Whole Foods. Now today at the Amazon Fresh store there was a younger guy who was assisting customers. When it was our turn I asked if I could scan my code and he said yes. So I scanned my code and we were getting our Apple Pay ready when he said "that payment declined do you have another card you can use?". I was confused at first because we hadn't used a form of payment yet but then I quickly realized he must have prompted it to charge my Amazon account without asking first. Normally when I shop at Whole Foods they ask before attempting to charge your Amazon Prime account. I let the cashier at the Amazon Fresh store know that we weren't using the Amazon Prime account to pay today and he continued to let us get our Apple Pay ready for another brief moment before letting us know they don't accept Apple Pay (even though the card tap was accepted) he then canceled that transaction and asked if we had another form of payment. I asked if they accepted cash since we didn't have any cards with us at the moment. It was raining pretty heavily and we didn't want to run out to the car just to get a card. Luckily he said they did but very reluctantly. What really bothered us was during our ENTIRE interaction with this cashier he was talking to other employees from across the store, looking around, rolling his eyes at us (which he did about 3-4 times), and giving us a very rude attitude. After this we have decided not to come back here and will recommend anyone we know not to shop here. It was a horrible experience and both of us have worked in customer service or retail before and no matter what kind of day we're having can't ever imagine treating a customer like that. I honestly don't know what business would want any of their employees treating customers like that anyway, the employees are a representation of the business itself and to us this looks very bad for Amazon Fresh. Unfortunately we didn't get the name of the cashier but we came in on a Friday around 6/6:30pm. Perhaps they have other cashiers who are more friendly and courteous when working on the sales floor. But we're still hesitant to visit other locations after this experience now. I'd give zero stars if I could or even negative stars. Do better Amazon Fresh! read more

Update. I've been to this AF four times. After the opening day I've seen few people shopping there and as others have noted, they're often out of items, their dark shelves are offputting, etc. But perhaps the reports of their early demise are misstated. They've been working on this location for two years; they put up an "opening soon" sign almost one year ago. So for all that time they've been paying some amount of rent and making no money--and that's been fine with them. I wonder if Amazon, like Google, is more interested in gathering data than in making money like a traditional grocery. If you enter as a prime member and use their just walk out feature, not only do they know what you've bought, but they also know what aisles you walked down, how long you were in each aisle, how long you looked at the potato chips or hot foods, what you picked up and what you put back. When you go down the alcohol aisle they scan your driver's license, so they also know your address and age, and what you look at there. So they can use all this data to show you more directed ads when you're on the Amazon website, send you targeted deals via email, and sell your aggregated data to advertisers to use for more targeted ads. In the end, just as Google gives you Google Maps and Search and other services for no upfront cost, that may be the ultimate goal of Amazon--sell your data, and use it to sell you more. read more

They never have their sale items in stock. The last 3 times I drove down there they were out. I went in multiple days and one of the sales people said they never send enough of sale items. No phone number to call to check before you go. Their quality and pricing is not worth going if you can't also buy sales items. read more

No phone number for the store is a big reason I will no longer shop there. Besides that, there are expired items on the shelf. The service is good, the staff tries to assist. However, the overall place is cold and uninviting especially the gates to enter and exit. Put another small market with unique foods there instead. No more corporate big box. Not sure why so many people hate on Amazon. The place is always empty and easy to shop. Bezos must be losing billions on it but it works for me. You can fill a $6.99 box with enough carnitas to make tacos for days. People whine and moan about inflation. Eat Amazon tacos. read more

Ok, for the most part I have to agree with a lot of the one star postings in that prices are high, selection is minimal, fruits and vegetables are better elsewhere, etc. The lunch/dinner selection at there self serve area was good and you only pay for what you take, by the oz. Won't come here to grocery shop but lunch I will probably come again or to pick up my Amazon orders. read more

The prices aren't cheaper than other grocery stores. It would be nice if the cart could give you a total as you place them in the cart. I don't like that you don't get the receipt right away. I found a mistake as it showed I bought 2 sandwiches when I only bought 1. Had to call to have it corrected which is a hassle.The hot bar had a lot of empty containers. I had gone early enough and thought it would have been fully stocked. I was there a little after 11am and was disappointed. Not enough sandwich variety. I will try it again and see if it has gotten better. I usually go to Sprouts or Trader Joe's which seems to be fully stocked. read more

Went for the first time today and was very disappointed. What a depressing place. Dark, silent and at Noon on a Sunday only two or three people shopping. The selection is poor and most of it is junk food. The prepared food section is mostly empty except for some very unhealthy options. This is the exact polar opposite of one of the former tenants in this space - Bristol Farms. I can't see how this will survive in Westlake Village. read more

My experience in a nutshell. Horrible !!! I felt like being in a former communist country I visited . With security everywhere except this is AI. Worst than Scotland Yard... When you walk in there are scanners to scan your Amazon prime. If you don't have one a QR code is there to signup. I don't like that they can track a person. Then look up . There are a couple thousand scanners and who knows if they are cameras watching every move. It was creepy to see and I felt very uncomfortable... II asked the guys behind the meat department if the meat is Antibiotic and GMO free.. All four young guys didn't know. Apparently they don't pay these people butchers wages. Cheep Bezos... I wanted to buy a nice bottle of wine and was asked for my ID. Really ? I told them to shove it where the sun doesn't shine... I'm not giving you my personal information so Bezos can track me with advertising BS... Three cashiers open and took about 15 minutes in line. However you can bag your own groceries if you use your App... Prices are high and run by persons who don't have or show any customer service experience... Robots and AI run... I walked in on opening day with high hopes, but those immediately fell to the floor. The place is small and dark, which makes it look old and dirty. This is also not very conducive to shopping, neither are the dark metal shelves for the limited inventory. Then, there was their new payment system in which you scan your bank card on the way in, shop and just walk out. The items will then be scanned and charged to your card, 'cause what could go wrong? You do, however, still have the option to use one of their check out lines with actual humans. I found their customer service to be sorely lacking. One man was downright rude. Rather than take me where I wanted to go, they merely gestured vaguely and impatiently for me to "go over there" somewhere. They were also not very knowledgeable at all, sending me to a certain aisle for an item they said they had but did not. Before it opened, there was much fanfare, "free samples" and other treats were to be had. There were none, just some lame roulette wheel game where you could win an even lamer candy bar. I went in, walked around, asked for the items they did not have and walked right out again. I did not feel like buying anything there. It just did not move me to do so. It was that off-putting. The feeling, the energy of the place was just plain YUCK! It felt more like a dark, creepy old storage facility with metal storage cages than a brand new grocery store. I will never be going back. I walked into the store on opening day it seemed of fun on the outside with the green balloons and games but in the inside it feels like you're being watched with thousands of cameras in the store. I felt very superficial having all Alexa's around the people at the store seem so unhappy and rude. The food is okay and The hot bar is nice, but I will not come back here. read more

I honestly can't stop shopping here! They gave a wonderful coupon when they first opened where if you spend $20, you get $10 off. What a deal! And you can keep using it until the expired date. Some things are already a deal, so you get a deal on top of a deal! Not everything is a deal though. You definitely need to know your prices. I tried their hot food box where you fill up the box for a set price. The price is high, but it was one of the best orange chickens I've ever had! I purchased their $4.97 cooked hot chicken and it was fantastic! Everyone who I've come across who works there is super nice and helpful. Let me start by saying that I love anything Amazon. I don't agree with Jeff Bezos but I find Amazon products convenient and fill a niche. I have shopped at the Woodland Hills Amazon Fresh for a few years now and it has always been a good experience. When I heard that Amazon was opening a store in Westlake I could not wait (3 Years later) for the opening . Being an early adopter I had no problem with trying new things. Here is how it works; when you come into the store you can use your Amazon app to "register" yourself in the system. That means that anywhere you go in the store you are monitored by little trackers hanging from the ceiling (there are hundreds of them). Or you can just enter like any other store and not be tracked. When you are done (if you used the app) you just go to the exit show your code to the system and walk out. If you do not use the app you can go thru the checkout stand like any other store. Here is the problem, Amazon's tracking system is supposed to see when you put an item into the cart; however the system is not ready for "Prime Time". Of the 4 times I used it, it was incorrect 4 times. You will not be emailed a receipt until about 4 hours after you have left and it is usually wrong. Now I just go to the checkout stand to avoid any problems. Because of the way the system tracks there is no way for it to measure weight. That means that ANYTHING you buy will be "each", fruit, vegetables, salad bar, hot food. Unlike the Woodland Hills store the hot food bar has limited selections; each time I was there it was the same (Mexican, Mac and Cheese and Fried Chicken) nothing healthy. Prices are not any better and in some cases higher than other grocery stores. Food selection is not as varied as you would expect, we looked for ground turkey and they do not carry it. There are sales on items that they are out of. Will I be going there again, probably to pick up milk, eggs and to return things I buy on Amazon, otherwise it is back to Vons for me. I have been there five times at lunch time. Looking to pick up some hot food or even a nice salad each time I have been there i have been totally dissapointed. I so miss Vintage Market that they closed to put amazon fresh there. They had breakfast, lunch and dinner all fresh and all warm. There are never any employees that speak to you they are all on these stupid things in there hands and no one seems to know anything, I hate to say it but I don't think this was a good idea for the area. I was so looking forward to having Amazon Fresh here. The store was crowded since it's the opening weekend yet it was very clean and very well-organized. The staff outside and inside were friendly and very helpful. However my complaint is with the idiots who worked in the pizza area Sunday. They took me order and said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I went shopping and returned back 20 minutes later. My pizza wasn't ready yet. It wasn't in the oven and nor were the staff preparing it. I asked how much longer it was going to take and was told 5 minutes. Well after waiting for 45 minutes with the ice cream in my cart melting, I was told that they were going to start working on it. The guy offered me several coupons and I told him to keep it and that I would never shop this store again. Several other customers were also angry and walked away. The guys never apologized and mumbled something which was quite rude. Lucky for me I live near several great pizzerias and I was able to get a great pie without dealing with incompetence. read more

I used my debit card to make my purchase. They were having problems with their registers and it diid not credit my $20 coupon. I was sent to customer serviceto rectify the problem. Instead of refunding me the $20, I was told that the receipt would be rectified in 2hrs when the computer system was in operation. I would then receive the refund in 7 days electronically.
