I have been visiting this place for years and the food and service have always been wonderful. It is my family and friends top 10 places to eat in Baltimore and my in-laws eat there once a week. Atmosphere is great and they have outdoor seating in the warmer weather months. Staff is very friendly and attentive and the speed of service is perfect. I was a guest for New Year's Eve. I called three different times prior to that evening to ask if the sauces and dressings could be left off any of their dishes. My husband is on a strict diet. I was assured all three times that it could be done. Upon ordering at the restaurant, we both reminded the waiter to leave off the salad dressing, to put it on the side. The salad was brought with the dressing on top of the lettuce. (it was cheap looking iceberg lettuce to boot.) The waiter refused to bring one with dressing on the side. We talked to the maitre d' who became irate and went into a rage when we explained the predicament. He ordered us to leave the restaurant right away or else the entire party with which we arrived would be thrown out. He also informed us that ALL of their food came from a central commissary pre-pared. They don't prepare any of it at the dining room. We were very fortunate to snag a UBer to home. We had to leave the party in order for our friends to not be thrown out, too. read more

Got delivery tonight. It was hot, delivered on time, and neatly packaged. Rice pudding was included at no extra charge. Spice level was exactly what we had requested. We ordered tandoori salmon, navratan korma, matar paneer, garlic naan, Kashmiri naan, and some fried appetizers. We did not care for the Kashmiri naan because of the use of marchiano cherries - we prefer raisins. Otherwise, everything exceeded our expectations. Portion sizes were generous as well. We chose to have lunch/buffet at the AMBASSADOR dining room today but was shocked how it has declined. Very pricey $$$ for mediocre, bland food. Every item on the buffet looked good but one after another the taste missed the mark. Watery rice. Bland chicken. Fried fish w barely any sauce. Tasteless spinich. We ordered an onion kulcha & papadams.....a large bread basket arrived w/ 2 little crisps & 1 slice of bread cut into 4 pieces. There was not one highlight throughout the meal. We all agreed......frozen Indian entrees from Trader Joe's have more taste than this. We also watched as the other guests in the restaurant did not return to buffet for a second portion. My favorite Indian restaurant in Baltimore: consistently good food, good service, lovely garden dining area that makes you feel like you are in India, and a quiet location that makes the experience intimate. I am pretty picky about Indian food, because I have had the real thing. The food here is not haute cuisine but it is excellent homestyle Indian cooking: tandoori chicken, tikka masala, and various vegetarian dishes. I wasn't sure what to make of the Ambassador Dining room the first time I went. It reminded me of a regal English, dining room meets upscale Indian cuisine. It makes you think of how it may have been like in India under British colonization. There outside dining area is the best thing they have. It is hands down the best night time outside dining area in the city. They also have impeccable service. From the samosas, lamb vindaloo, tandoori chicken, palak paneer, everything here is great. This place is a disgrace to Indian food. I never had such a bad Indian food in USA. I bought 12 items from menu and none of it was good and everything tasted like tomato/tamarind sauce. Garlic naan was bad. Samosa was oily and had no taste. Briyani tasted like pulav. Lamb chops was sub par in taste. Shrimp was not good. They filled half portion with lentil gravy and it was very bad in taste. Meat naan was bad. Malai kofta was bad. Reshmi kabob was cooked but had no flavor/taste at all. I normally keep the left overs in fridge. This time I had to throw all of it to trash. Never ever buy from here.... read more

Located just past Johns Hopkins University, this is truly a HIDDEN GEM! The restaurant is on the main level of a condo/apartment building and has indoor or outdoor seating. True elegant style, you feel like you've stepped inside a real authentic Indian Restaurant. The outdoor seating is actually covered during the colder time periods, but still encases you within their secret gardens. The warmer months are beautiful eating on the outdoor patio, surrounded by greenery and all sorts of floral arrangements. Came here with a group of 12 for brunch. Got seated at a beautiful round table outside on the patio. The patio was gorgeous! The food was delicious particularly the chicken tikka masala, naan, and palak paneer. Brunch was about $30 each including tip and included unlimited Indian food, and drinks (grey goose, belvedere) along with sangria, mimosas, etc. Left very satisfied. The best Indian in Baltimore in a truly beautiful setting. In the winter they tent the patio and decorate with portable fireplaces and evergreens, and in the summer, the patio opens onto a relaxing urban oasis of a garden. The food is as lovely as the setting - great Indian classics like malai kofta, tikka masala, jalfrezie, and biryani. Highly recommend. Hard to find, no signs but once your in the dinning area and outside patio are just lovely. I had high hopes. My friend told me it was the best Indian food around. It was 6pm on a Tuesday and we were alone in the dining room. Both of us have one gin and tonic ($12.50) each , for nothing special. Order 2 appetizer first was vegetable Samosa these were good, but not great. Lackluster in the flavor department. We also had been Bengan Khas which is an egg plant layered with tomato sauce yogurt in and mint served with garlic nine. Tasted a bit like eggplant Parmesan. Again good, but not great We got the chicken tiki masala which was a very small portion of drier chicken with a very little bit of sauce. We also were adventurous in trying the whole fish dish, don't remember the name It was a whole ( head on) which doesn't bother me but was a very boney fish that seemed to be deep fried. It was cooked well but again no flavor. Both entrees were served with over cooked spinach. Nothing had spice as you would have expected $$$ for what you get. read more

First, the good news. The outdoor dining area is fantastic. I've been here several times over the years. The quality of the service has varied, ranging from inferior to competent but never excellent. The food is another matter. On each of my last two visits the entrees were overcooked, dry and bland. I have fond memories of this establishment from years ago but over the course of the past several years things have deteriorated. One of my favorite restaurants! My visit last night was incredible, as always. I started off with the signature cocktail, which was super refreshing and easy to drink. I usually like to try different things on a menu, but I admit to have ordered the Crab Malabar my past two visits, because it is THAT good. Huge pieces of backfin crab, tossed with fresh corn and tomatoes, served with creamed spinach and rice. I would also recommend the Tandoori Plater, which gives you a taste of different kebab meats. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this restaurant, especially to someone who may not be familiar with Indian food, because the menu is very approachable, and there is a variety of dishes to choose from. Behold the British Raj in Baltimore. You are here for the ambiance, not the best Indian food ever. Segway through the dim dining room with it's over-puffed chairs and abundant tablecloths. Enter the gorgeous patio with a view of a formal garden. Wicker lounge chairs, loads of tea lights on the rolling glass doors (the huge kind that roll back into the ceiling) and two fireplaces. The food is delicious, and yes, pricey for what it is. Pushy waiters will give you the side-eye and hover if you stay too late. Excellent buffet for a leisurely lunch. read more

Ambassador Dining Room is SOOOO good, and some of the best food in the area. I admit I am a total buffet snob and will typically not go to one but Ambassador has proved me wrong with their lunch buffet! The food is refilled in small batches and tastes just as good as the small plates that are served for dinner. The place is beautiful, the staff is wonderful and we love coming here.
