I've been eating here for years even through all the name changes. I used to love their Butter Chicken/Chicken Makhani and their Raita, but today, the only decent thing was the rice & naan. Idk if the ambiance has ever been great here as its inside is not pretty & the bathroom is very gross & never clean. The 2 orders of Chicken Makhani I received today tasted so strongly of WAY too much ghee to where I couldn't even taste anything else. It was lacking proper flavor & the chicken was very, very dry and tasted old. Super disappointing. I send people to this place allllll the time, but not anymore. The raita was the absolute worst part of my meal. I paid $5 extra for 2 things of raita & had to throw both away because they were SO bad! I don't know why, but it was so excessively full of black pepper that I honestly almost puked. Not only that, it tasted very, VERY strongly of green pepper. Raita is NEVER supposed to have green pepper & I honestly couldn't tell if that was the issue or if it was actually expired/rotten. I was super excited for this food & it was so incredibly disappointing especially because it wasn't cheap...huge decline in food quality & definitely not worth the price. read more

So, I am brand new to Indian food. A friend recommended this spot, and I went with their go-to order: chicken tikka masala and garlic naan bread. Let me just say, from the very start this place blew me away. From the first phone call, the customer service was outstanding. The gentleman I spoke with was so kind and patient with me, especially since I didn't really know what I wanted. He made recommendations, and I felt totally confident in my order. When I went to pick it up, the interaction was fantastic again. Now, I'll be honest--the exterior might not grab your attention right away. But do not let that stop you, because the food here is absolutely amazing. The rice? Fluffy, soft, almost silky. Cooked perfectly. The chicken tikka masala? Wow. I ordered it medium heat (about a 3 out of 5), and it was spot on. Nothing overwhelming at first, just the perfect little kick at the end. The flavor was rich, balanced, and so satisfying. Pair that with the garlic naan, and it's like they were made for each other. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes. I noticed they also offer a lunch buffet, which looks like it could be awesome--such a great way to sample everything and really discover what you love. 10/10 recommend. I do not like to give poor reviews to business, but Amber Indian Restaurant does deserve to be given a review: 1) I ordered half of Tandoori Chicken which was undercooked (raw in the middle of the chicken pieces). If it was cooked in an authentic tandoor oven (900degF), it would have been cooked properly. This is not an authentic tandoor chicken and it should not be advertised as such. I had tandoor dishes in India and this dish does not resemble the real tandoor cooking; 2) I called the restaurant to give them my feedback about the Tandoor Chicken and get my refund. They refused to give my refund back on my credit card. I did not want to get the credit note from this company given my present experience. They found every excuse under the sun why they could not refund the money to my credit card. This is sharp practice which should not be allowed; 3) I spoke to one guy from the restaurant and he said that he will connect me to their manager to resolve this issue, then he put down the phone on me. When I rang couple of minutes back another guy said that their manager left for today. I could not check it but it was a lie. All in all my experience was very poor with this restaurant. This restaurant should not be allowed to trade from the point of view of food safety and their trading practices. I will be taking my experience to the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) and Indiana Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division (IAGCPD). read more

Excellent Indian lunch buffet coming from an Indian. Nothing is very spicy. Service was pleasant, unobtrusive and kept our water glasses filled. We went for lunch and it was relatively quiet. But they had just opened for lunch. Buffet is neat orderly and has plenty of choices. Went here with a friend last night. At first, our waiter brought out these wafer-like crackers (cannot remember what they are called). They had a spice to them and were so good! I ordered chicken palak, and she ordered chicken curry, and oh my gosh, were they both so delicious!! So full of flavor and rich. The service was fantastic, and we were impressed by how many DoorDash/GrubHub orders they were cranking out! The waiter/owner was also on top of the refills. The ambience was cozy. I've tried almost every Indian restaurant in Fishers, Castleton/N. Indy and Carmel, Indiana and this is by far the best food. The prices are the same or cheaper than other restaurants but the portions are bigger. The service is always good. You won't get better quality nor better value for your money. I've eaten here about 20 times a year for the last 5 years. Try the Chicken Tikka. The buffet is also great and cheaper than other Indian restaurants. Enjoy! read more

Best Indian restaurant on the north side of Indianapolis. I've eaten there several times and I've never had a bad meal. The saag paneer is AMAZING! Last night I had the aloo mater and it was great. I wish I had gotten medium heat. Mild is very mild so perfect for someone who likes Indian food but doesn't like spicy food but I wish I had gotten it hotter. The best thing there is the garlic naan!! It costs a little more than regular naan but it's worth it!! It's delicious and has a lot of garlic. The restaurant is always very clean. The wait staff are always polite and helpful. Every time I have eaten there, the food comes out very quickly. There is a lot of Indian art decorating the restaurant which adds to the ambience. It's easy to find and easy to find parking. read more

This place serves fresh, delicious Indian food like few others in the area. Our server was warm, kind, and extremely helpful while we ordered. She also was tending to the front of house alone with skill and efficiency-- top notch service. We ordered the Chicken Karahi and Baingan Bhartha and both were generous portions, flavorful, and piping hot. Additionally, the rice and naan come with the meal here; this is, in part where Amber Indian stands out among its peers. The portions of each were huge and the naan was super fresh, buttery, chewy and tasty. As far as locale and ambiance, this spot is a little dated but it's kept clean and lovingly tended to by the owners. Give this place a try, your tastebuds deserve it. read more

Looks are deceiving. We pulled up to the restaurant and it looked a little run down but I've learned places that look like this have the best food. My friends and I's favorite Indian spot was closed so we had to quickly find a backup. We came upon this place and decided to give it a try. It was great! There was only one other table filled and a lot of take-out orders ready to go. Service was fast and food was delicious. Can't go wrong with chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. We also tried a new (to us) appetizers - vegetable pakora. I love anything fried so there was a 100% chance it was going to be good. Happy to have found a back-up Indian spot! read more

JULY 6th RESUMES BUFFET!! You heard it here first. This was my first, highly anticipated trip to Amber Indian. I was bummed the buffet wasn't open but HOT DIGGITY the food sure was tasty. Authentic Indian with American portions- wayyy more food than one serving. So the prices really do the flavor justice. I can eat on this a couple more times. The veggie platter was mainly spinach and onion, some ghee and potatoes- nonetheless flavorful. The aloo matter & chicken makhini WERE DELICIOUS TOGETHER!! My other daughter ordered Biryani Chicken I think - a dish that is naturally spicy though she requested it as Mild. Really good dish if you like a kick! Price was reasonable unlike many restaurants hiking prices u reasonably. Amber provided the right value and quality! The portion sizes were filling and we had some to spare for lunch tomorrow. Their korma is delicious and they will make anything to order. For example, I recently asked for a combination of chicken saag and paneer. That was not on the menu but they made it for me and it was out of this world. Compare that to the much more expensive Hyderabad House. Amber Indian forgot to include extra rice for me one time. I told them and they gave me credit for extra appetizers on my next order. I ended up getting more food than I would have paid for. I really love this Indian food restaurant especially compared the the more expensive options within a 5 minute drive of Amber Indian. read more

What happened to this place? Staff are not friendly. Lady was having a bad day or something. We feel threatened before we sat down. We only ordered butter chicken and naan. We didn't eat it because we feel that they might of spat on the food. We paid for the food but left it on the table when we left. We did not want to take it with us. And what's worse, Amber bought out Royal Indian which was at this location and was actually pretty good. :( I tried to give this a chance, even though I really didn't like the Carmel location. I was hoping maybe this was different. Well it IS different but in a worse way! The food is bland, had almost no flavor at all. The best thing we ate were the free papads they give you when you sit down. Also, they're not cheap either! I don't mind pricey food if it's good. But the combo of $17/dinner entree with the complete lack of flavor is borderline criminal. This gets a "HARD PASS!" from me. read more

Chana masala is my comparator dish- I try it at almost every Indian restaurant I go to. My non-vegan family and friends love it too. My daughter is especially fond of their lamb saag. I have to be honest, I haven't eaten at this location yet. I've only ever eaten at the Carmel location. My review is purely based off what I saw while waiting to pick up a Door Dash order. The seating area itself was not very busy, only 2 tables. I have to imagine they were busy with takeout orders, since I was one of 5 people waiting. However, the lack of response from staff to the growing line of people was... nonexistent. 3 people were waiting to pick up their own order. 2 of us were waiting for Door Dash. The guy in front of me picked up a huge order for door dash. The woman came out and handed him six cups of tea. He asked if they had drink carriers. She responded, "no," and just walked away, back into the kitchen. As you can imagine, this upset the person waiting, as it would anyone! What was he supposed to do with all of those cups?! I proceeded to wait for an additional 20+ minutes before I was even acknowledged as a person waiting for food. When I eventually got the order, it was 30 minutes later than it was supposed to be. While I can't speak to the food at this location... I would suggest avoiding this place on a Friday night where they will be busy and unable to accommodate or work with the people ordering. read more

I have tried a lot of Indian Restaurants in Indy. Years ago, when I first ate Indian, it was at India palace on Lafayette Rd. I fell in love with it. Over time the management changed, and so did the food taste. I've spent the last several years trying other Indian Restaurants, closer to home on South side, and have been disappointed. But last week, my daughter who lives on north side took me here, to Amber Indian. Today is my second visit and I am so happy to be eating Indian food that taste just like it did 25 years ago at India Palace. I eat mine Mild, and they cook it Exactly the way I asked. But most of all, the quality of the chicken, the vegetables and sauces are top notch and taste heavenly. Thank you for pleasing my palate with the best tasting Indian. The kabobs were flavorless and one was partially burnt, which sat atop a whole sliced room temperature onion. Chicken in each order was around 1 medium-large chicken breast for $15.99 each. Half the naan was burnt. Also ordered a Dahl soup, bland and just above room temperature. Don't bother going here. Absolute waste of money. Also it took an hour. With hyperbadi house around the corner now, I don't think this place will make it, it shouldn't. read more

Unfortunately this expansion of the Carmel location failed flat. I am only giving a 3 because of the service. They did work to keep my water glass full. The food: My daughter felt the buffet seemed much smaller than Carmel. I pointed out to one server that the jalapeño peppers were withered and brown. Not sure he understood but thought he might have at least mentioned it to someone but they were never changed. The cucumbers were freezer burnt. The food wasn't as hot as it should have been. The green beans were tasty but looked like a gloppy mess. I think the food is being prepped and delivered and it shows. Would not return to this location and they are in a "kiss of death" location, so they need to evaluate and quickly. read more

My wife and I went here for the Indian buffet. We generally are not huge buffet fans, but with Indian food and my lack of experience eating the cuisine I figured I could try a handful of things. The Paneer was good, as was the tikka masala and lamb curry. The staff was attentive and brought out fresh Naan. The Naan was amazing and the best part. Ultimately the main thing that holds this back from a five star is that the buffet pans get light on meat and veggies after a few people go up there and as there is so much sauce in the pans it looks like they are still full. Therefore the staff doesn't change the pans or add meat often enough so you have to fish for the meat and veggies. read more
