Had a tennis necklace that broke a few months back but just took it into Amber's last month to get it fixed. Everyone we interacted with were friendly. They were able to clean a few other pieces I had as well. After leaving my necklace with them for a few days, they called me to come and pick it up and it was perfect. Brought in my great grandfathers 33 year old watch for repairs. I knew that it was only a $200 Seiko to other people, but when I asked about repairs I was told it wouldn't be worth it. Like maybe not to YOU, I went here thinking I'd get a good repair instead I got insulted. There's plenty of ways to clean up a TINY amount of battery corrosion. I opened the watch and cleaned it myself and viola. They only care about you if they think you have money I guess. Being a 25 year old guy probably didn't help. read more

I have 2 things done, the first was a ring sizing and stone replacement which they do on site, PERFECT! And I would recommend them for any jewelry repair. Now the disappointing part, I also took in a Tag Heuer watch that needed crown/stem repair. The Stem set screw became loose allowing the stem to be pulled out. This watch was cleaned 3 yrs ago. I received 2 quotes one fox only the stem which was $350 and to completely overhaul (clean and lube) it was $700. Watch was returned to me kinda repaired, the stem dose stay in but when you adjust the date it clicks hard instead of smooth as it was designed. Something is wrong with stem set screw and it was NOT really addressed by watchmaker. I called Ambers and asked about repair, that did talk to watchmaker who said he did fix and lube but since I refused a full service there are NO GUARANTEES. Basically I threw away $350. Am I upset at Ambers....not too much, but they need to look for another watchmaker who knows what hes doing and it willing to guarantee his work without making you buy/pay for a service you don't need. Bottom line the watchmaker is probably not certified to repair higher quality watches like Rolex, Tag Breitling etc, so better to send to factory, I wanted to support local bussinesses I will use Ambers as a jewler but not for watch repair read more

Got a couple links removed from my watch, and a battery replacement. It took longer than usual, about 45 mins. The difference was the staff were so kind. I got a free water and my sister got a free fanta. They talked to us, offered us a place to sit. They even offered an escort to my car. TL;DR: while repairs are a bit more expensive, they do it right the first time I had a broken silver and malachite ring. The malachite was scratched up and separated, and the ring was bent and split. Every other place I went to in the Katy areaoffered cheaper prices, but said they couldn't polish the malachite. Amber's repaired the whole thing until it looked brand new, AND resized it, all for $60. The price was well worth it and it was done in a timely matter. read more

Unacceptable experience. Amber her self "assisted" me. While assisting me she began chastising her staff for various annoyances and took a personal phone call. She passed me off to someone else but not before asking me where I had gotten my lose stone from which made me feel interrogated. She was intense and wants her hand in every task. Her staff was timid around her as not to upset her and be berated. The new CSR was kind and completed my order however I believe my order was never placed. I placed my order 8/26(eta 4 days) and was told my order would be available for pick up on 8/30. I called 9/2 after not receiving a follow up call, only to be informed my order wouldn't be available until 9/9 (eta 7 days). Again, no follow up call indicating another delay until I called Amber's on 9/11 where I was informed miraculously my ring was completed and ready for pick up. Imagine that! Upon arrival, my ring was handed to me inside of a wad of gift tissue paper. No box, no bag, not even in a presentation book .. they handed my ring to me in a WAD of tissue paper. I explained to the cashier how displeased I was with the communication whereas she apologized but also gave me a list of reasons for the lack of communication. The person in charge of calling customers went out of town, which further confirmed this establishment has training issues. Blaming co-workers is never the way to make a customer "feel better" it's completely self serving. IF the worker was out of town then why wasn't their work allocated to other CSR? If Amber had an issue with the staff why not talk to them at a appropriate time instead of chastising them in front of a customer? The inefficiencies are endless. If I can't trust Amber's designs with a small simple project (setting a stone in a ring) then I will not trust them with my more expensive stones and future purchases. Never again would I step foot in this store. The lady that runs the place is a rip off artist. Paid $230 for a chain that she sold me as a Christmas present for my son. It broke the first day and she would not replace it and wanted me to pay half price for another one. I could have got a better piece of jewelry from a gum ball machine. What an absolute joke. I reviewed this place a couple of years ago, and I usually dont do follow up reviews, but I am just so impressed with the service I received today at this jewelry store. I recognized most of the sales team from my prior visit and what pulls at my heartstrings is that they remember me and greet me by name even though I am obviously not a big ticket customer. I ask how much is this and that and this and they know that I'm looking for a good deal and they accommodate me without ever looking over my shoulder when potentially better clients walk through the door. I get to feel like my small purchases are just as important to them as any other. I bought 5 pieces, and was helped by three different associates to make sure I got exactly what I could squeeze into my budget. After all that, they beautifully wrapped my items and wished me a merry Christmas. I love the way I'm feeling right now. I feel valued and I know that they care about me as a customer. Their quality treatment is so rare that I just had to post a follow up. Big budget or not, they will treat you like a million bucks, or at least that's been my experience every single time. read more

I had some platinum diamond earrings redone (they were old fashion for me) and a watch fixed and some other minor things, but the earrings were like $500 to add a chain to each side about 1cm each. I paid it to her because I believed she would do the job superbly for that price. After my mother took them to her jeweler because she didn't like what I had done.., he informed us that the that the chain was hollow and USED!!! He proceeded to show her exactly what had been done incorrectly. What's really bad, is hanging from the chain was the 7 carats of diamonds that are the most valuable part. It's a shame, because they seem to be very nice and thorough but I would definitely never recommend. read more

Over the years, Amber had done several jewelry repairs for me. All were well done. I had my mother's wedding ring (she had passed away many years earlier) and wanted to redesign my own wedding ring and combine the two. I trusted Amber to do the redesign. She walked me through the entire process, from sketches, to wax carvings and molds, to pouring and setting. My ring was even more beautiful and special than I ever thought it could be. I am so thankful for Amber and her artistic talents. She has since made custom pieces for both my daughters and I am sure that when we have family weddings, she will be involved in the ring designs. I am updating my prior review. I finally received my wedding band today. It was done correctly after the third attempt. Amber was present to make sure everything was correct and that I was completely happy with my repair. I would like to point out that the sales people behind the counter were not to blame for the screw ups. They were kind, polite, and very professional. Amber was not at fault either as she did not do the repair. Both the customer service personnel and Amber did everything they could to make my experience better and did everything they could to make the wrong right. My gripe lies with the fact that it took 3 tries to get a simple resize and shank put in to the repair of my ring. I am sure Amber is looking into the reasons why her jewelers didn't follow the simple instructions. However, I'm not sure I would recommend her store or even go back for repair work. I will have to do more research on jewelers in the area that do repairs. Amber did have some beautiful jewelry on display. If your looking to buy something new and not looking to have jewelry repaired, she has a great selection. read more

Not Just Another Generic Corporate Retail Outlet - This Is My New Jeweler! A family heirloom ring that was originally worn by my Great Grandfather was handed down to me this holiday season but it was a few sizes too large for my hand. Needless to say, the sentimental value of this ring goes far beyond any monetary value so when I searched for a jewelry repair shop to size it down for me I did not want to trust it to any old store who mails their work off somewhere to do the work; I wanted to take it to a real Jeweler who did their own work in house whom I could trust with such an important heirloom. Upon googling jewelry repair in my area, I found Amber's Designs and gave them a call on New Year's Eve, no less. The friendly voice on the phone said they not only had master jewelers on site, but they recognized and understand how important such family heirlooms are. Upon hearing that, I took my ring over an hour before closing on New Year's Eve and dropped it off for repair. Once in the shop, I noticed that the diamond in the ring was actually chipped, so I asked Amber's to not only size it down but replace the stone and clean the ring up as well as it had been worn every day for the last 80 years by two different generations and it really showed the wear. I was advised it would take a week to complete but I would not recognize the ring when I got it back because the jewelers would do such a good job of bringing it back to life. I was also assured Amber's would take good care of my ring that meant so much to me, I was given an estimate of the cost, and a receipt that included both an estimated appraisal value and a photo of my ring (two nice touches I had not expected).. One week later, I called Amber's to check on our status and Amber herself answered the phone. She advised they were working on the ring right now and she was just trying to find the right stone to put in it because the original stone was very high quality and she could tell the ring was "well loved" so she wanted to ensure the replacement stone was fitting for such an heirloom. However, she said she would have it ready that afternoon, as promised, so I headed over to Amber's late that afternoon after I left the office for the day. When I got to Amber's shop in old Katy, I met Amber and we talked for awhile while one of her master jewelers was finishing polishing up my ring. What a pleasant, professional, family owned and operated business! When she brought it out to me, I was not only impressed, I really almost didn't recognize it because it looked so good! It really looked almost brand new! I don't know how they were able to bring an 80 yer old ring back to life but they far exceeded my expectations. And the quality of the stone she used is one of the nicest looking stones I have ever seen - truly beautiful. Amber did not simply pick the cheapest stone she could find to jam in the setting and improve her margin on the job. She hand picked the perfect stone befitting my heirloom and the light that reflects off of this stone, regardless of the type of light in the room, is really amazing. The blues, reds, yellows, oranges, purples, etc....it is like a rainbow on my finger every time my hand moves. To top things off, the estimate I received when I dropped the ring off is exactly what I paid, even though the quality of the stone is so much higher than what I expected. Sorry for the long review, but you can obviously tell I not only picked the right shop to repair my ring, but I just found my new Jeweler for life! I will trust all of my jewelry needs to Amber's Designs in the future; no more national cookie cutter chains (zales, jareds, etc.) for me. Do yourself a favor, if you have any jewelry needs, drive over to Amber's in Old Katy and go meet them. You will not only not be disappointed, you will be pleasantly surprised to find there are still family owned and operated businesses in this world where words like integrity, professionalism, trust, and real value actually mean something!
