Crab fettuccine came out as a very fishy penne pasta. And the server said "ya we ran out of fettuccine". It also took us about 10-15 minutes to be greeted and order a drink. The waiter though was very nice and seemed to try her best. They started turning the lights off while we were there at 8:59 and had paid... We kept being reminded at 8pm that "the kitchen was about to close" Not a great experience. Food was not good at all. I am from Texas so maybe I am bias and this is just the standard in Eugene... but it was one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. So sorry to even be leaving this review. This is a delightful old-fashioned restaurant with high ceilings, interior brick walls, dark tables, and a chance to linger over a long delicious dinner. The pace is slow here by design. The wait staff is knowledgeable, patient and thoughtful in their delivery. We sat down and ordered drinks immediately. Our waiter checked on us make sure we had time to peruse the menu and ask questions before we ordered. Our time here was a mix of great conversation layered with thoughtful service, delicious food, and a chance to reconnect with each other. We were up in Eugene for a visit and found this place on Yelp. Saw the positive reviews and decided to give it a shot. We were not disappointed. Coming in on a cold winter evening, the place felt so warm and inviting, great decor and lighting which really made for a great overall experience. The food was great, mushrooms with crab, the pizza, desert, all tasted great. Service was quick, super friendly and timely. Felt like it ran like a well oiled machine... kudos to the team at Ambrosia, if our travels take us back through Eugene, we'll be back. read more

I had heard a lot about Ambrosia and was unsure what to expect. I was more than pleasantly surprised. There was a group of us, so we decided to share as much as we could. So we started with a few appetizers. Crab cakes, calamari, clams, and a meat and cheese plate. It was wonderful, more than I expected it could be. Not to mention we had a great waitress who was very kind and helpful with our drink choices. I had one of the best wines I have had in a long time and Italian Chianti. For the main course, we got a few different options, the pasta and seafood plate, the lamb chops, the scallops and the filet. We were all so happy that we didn't even want to share. The atmosphere was great, very open and spacious. Some music in the background but quiet enough that we could talk and laugh together. We had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves. Oh, and dessert was wonderful as well. A great affogato to end the night. Overpriced. The food is okay but for what you pay it just isn't good enough. Ambrosia has been a Eugene staple but its high prices and average food have left it behind as Eugene's food scene has VASTLY improved over the years. When thinking Italian, Ambrosia rarely comes to the top of my mind if I'm being honest. I've been here many times over the years. This is even where I had my high school prom dinner. It's disappointing how it's just kind of been left behind. It does have a cool downstairs and the atmosphere is very enjoyable. read more

I finally returned to Ambrosia and had a much better experience. My seafood penne was very good but could have been served warmer, it was al dente. The Caeser salad was fresh but dry. We had the scallops which were perfect. We were there about 5:30 so it was not packed so we had plenty of table attention. I was pleasantly surprised to see the attention to "greenware", the straws and to-go containers were environmentally friendly. As an aside: We had just returned from target shooting in the country and were not dressed for dining. Abrosia staff has a "beautiful people" look, and despite our appearance, we were treated with respect. read more

Our first visit to this beautiful Restaurant with flowing decors of an Italian place. We loved the music, the restaurant setting with the long bar, and the wood fired pizza oven,. The waitress was very professional and on-time with every step of the night!, with that said, we loved the home made rosemary bread and the olive oil/balsamic dip. We ordered a bottle of Tempranillo, calamari fritti, cream of mushroom soup, Caesar salad, chicken parmigiana and the fusilli with seafood special, crème Brule, tiramisu, and two espresso. The Caesar salad was bland and watery , both main course dishes could've been hotter, the chicken parmigiana lacked the flavor of the tomato and Italian spices, the fusilli with seafood was salty. The location is great and the ambiance is fine. The drink I got was ok. The wine list really nice. The problem is ..... wait for it ..... the food. My dish was fair- spaghetti bolognese. My wife had scallops which was so bad we were surprised that they would serve food in this manner. That dish was soggy and lacked taste. The mixed vegetable "hash" felt like frozen vegetable medley. My sense is this is an ok place for pasta but beyond that not worth it. The service was very good and staff here seems very nice and attentive. They deserve better from the kitchen. read more

We have been going to ambrosia for 30 years since our first date. We have had many memorable meals there as a couple and with family. However this week we took our daughter and we were all disappointed in our meals. I ordered scallops and they were cooked perfectly but placed on a mound of blah and gluey pasta. My husband ordered beef stroganoff. There was hardly any beef and the noodles were very bland and gluey, The sauce almost flavorless and floury. My daughter ordered black truffle mozzarella pizza. The mozzarella was full of herbs and there were no truffles to be seen or tasted. Too bad they apparently lost a fabulous chef. I hope they get one back again. read more

Had dinner here last night for my 5 year anniversary with my boyfriend and it was amazing! We made a reservation even though I don't think it was necessary due to it being a Monday night. The place wasn't packed but there were definitely a few tables! Our service was great and attentive. We ordered drinks, Caesar salad, and their focaccia bread to start. The focaccia bread was so good. It has a garlic sauce on it with provolone cheese. Drinks were also delicious and fresh! For dinner I ordered the fettuccine davide which is my absolute favorite and did not disappoint. My boyfriend had the chicken Marsala. The rice was cooked too aldente for his taste but their veggies were the best either of us had ever tasted at a restaurant! For dessert with got chocolate gelato and vanilla gelato with chocolate syrup and an espresso shot to pour over! My boyfriend's favorite part was his last drink... which had balsamic and egg whites in it. He was nervous to try it because it looked like an odd combo but loved it in the end! (And so did I!) Called in a Pick Up order Sunday evening at 4:30pm, arrived 15 minutes later. They did not have any potatoes so no substitution for polenta (she put me on hold to ask!) and no Gnocchi. Since no phone number taken with food order - our food wasn't even started. Ordered something else. Finally, 35 minutes later, 50 minutes after original call, Got the food. (No forks or napkins included) My Braised Beef was Horrible. The meat was mostly fat including a quarter inch rind. Bite after bite I am spitting out a mouthful of fat. Meat fat and veggies had no taste. Rather than Red Wine Sauce, the container had .... grease. The Polenta was cold and tasted day old. Really - $29! I ordered a small Amboise Salad at $8 with the Caesar's dressing. What I got was a container partially full of lettuce. I have had their Caesar's dressing every other time I have eaten there. It is usually SO good. But not this day. Tasted like vinegar. Tossed the lot of it - $37 down the drain. I have eaten at Ambrosia's many many times over the years and often called it my favorite restaurant. No more. I called to complain and obtain refund at 5:50 pm and talked to Wayne. His attitude was he couldn't help or care less. He took a message for someone with authority to call me. He had no Idea when that person might be in - "I'm not a mindreader" Wow! Came here with my parents for a nice meal and was pleased with it! The restaurant is a little small and romantic light with a good bar area to wait before your table is ready. Ordered a nice vegetarian pasta dish but can't recall the name just know that it was a smoked mozzarella and butter sauce and was amazed by how delicious it was!! Will be coming back here again but a good idea would be to make a reservation as the wait time was a bit longer than expected...there were a few empty tables but the staff did seem busy not slacking off. Sad to write this review after many terrific experiences here, but my wife's entree was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen come out of an Italian kitchen. $35 for a pasta special advertising shrimp, scallops and halibut. The only scallops to be found were small pieces of bay scallops and no halibut was found unless those white shreds were the fish. We let the server know and were told there was a new "chef" and were brought a small container of tiny pieces of scallops. The mussel appetizer broth was watery and the only flavor was a weak white wine taste, no other flavors, period. The Caesar salad dressing was lacking flavor, and not even small pieces of smoked salmon were found, just shreds. So much for going back to an old favorite. It was good..but not great. I also ordered the fried artichokes. It was a plate full of greasy little tempura battered leaves. Hardly any hearts. We really should have sent it back. You couldn't dip any of it. The pieces were too tiny and just stuck in the really thick aioli. The bread was wayyy to salty on top. We are around the salty top. The wine was good! Lol. Nice looking place. The menu offers great promise (though "fine dining" and "pizza" is an odd combo). I've eaten there a few times, the experience has ranged from OK to truly awful. "Truly awful" was waiting (I'm not kidding) two hours for our meal and then getting burned food. Pointed that out to the waiter, she apologized and offered us free coffee. Free coffee?!?!?!? C'mon, Denny's does better than that. We dropped $150 for three people's dinner, it sucked, and you offered us a 50 cent cup of coffee....should have comped the entire meal. When we arrived, they had us down for 4 and the hostess freaked out in a panic. We were chill and it was no big deal for us to wait. For my main course, I ordered a cream pasta with lobster, langostino, and prosciutto. There was no prosciutto to be found anywhere in my dish. Where were sitting in the back has a big drop in your step as it is on a riser. Very inaccessible. Okay, I need to be careful how I say this, after I got back to my hotel room, let's just say I spent a lot of time on my temporary throne and needed some 7-up. They told us it would be an hour and half wait so we had a drink at the bar and still no seating available so we left because we had tickets to a play nearby. I struggled to decide to give this a two or three star review. My husband and I had a reservation at 6:45 for my 40th birthday which we were on time for. When we came in we said we had a reservation at 6:45 and were told by an older gentleman working the host table that they were running late and could we take a seat at the bar to wait for a table. We did so and after about 20-25 minutes, I decided to check in again about our table. There was a different host there the second time and she said she didn't know we'd arrived and they considered us a no show. She apologized and said it would be another 20-30 minutes. I asked if we could order our food then so it could be ready when we were seated and she said no, and not only that, if we had any tab we would have to close that at the bar, to which I'd told her we'd already paid with cash for a drink a piece. About 10 minutes later, she must have pulled some strings and got us seated, which I appreciate. We ordered food at our table and I also ordered a Moscow Mule. Apparently they don't have fixings for that drink because it was in a glass instead of copper with no ginger beer. It was basically a lightly lemon flavored cocktail, and I'm guessing the person that made it just wasn't sure what that drink entails. At this point, everyone is being nice and kind and doing their best, so I did not complain. Our food took another hour to be served so you would think the food would be hot. My lasagna was piping hot but so full of salt, I couldn't eat more than a quarter of it. My husband had the lamb and it was very cold. He ate some of it but the flavors were decent. We reported the temperature issue. They offered to reheat the food which we declined since we'd been there so long at that point and goodness knows how long that would have taken. The server was apologetic and offered a free dessert, which we again declined since it was nine by then, so we'd been there for almost 2 1/2 hours at this point. The server took the cost of my husband's meal off the check which was a very nice surprise. Overall, the food was not great and the drinks were not great. Otherwise, the server was nice and accommodating and the ambiance was nice too. I don't think I would go here again by my choice. They appear to lean heavily on the ambiance and not enough on the quality of the food and drink as well as overall organization of the front of house. read more

Tried the new Sunday brunch as we really enjoyed this "go to" spot years ago. My wife's smoke salmon crepe was fine. I started with eggs Benedict since it was early before Cafe 440 was Open. My mistake there. Sent the order back as the eggs were "hard boiled" in texture and the sauce was lacking in flavor and liquidity. It's not that hard to make a good Hollandaise Sauce just using the two main ingredients and a micro wave for hot butter. I next tried the Berry Crepes and I've not tasted them before with the crepes fresh out of the refrigerator.. maybe something new but , had they been warm as expected, they would have been overcome in flavor with way too much cream cheese and marscarpone. I hope they keep trying as a decent crowd and music out on the sidewalk makes for a very nice weekend element in downtown Eugene as it struggles to recover and succeed. read more

Worst. Risotto. Ever. Even calling it a risotto is just wrong. As only one of two vegetarian items on the entree menu, a couple people at our table chose this dish. From the moment they put it on the table, it was very clear it was not cooked in the correct manner. Instead, it's a serving of extremely overcooked white rice with warmed up cream and mushrooms on top. The rice was in big white clumps, as if it was sitting in a pot for hours too long and with waaay too much water. The creamy, cooked down starchiness with the al dente rice is nowhere to be found. The other odd thing is there was almost no other seasoning - not even salt. We both had to keep reaching over for the salt shaker. Another person had the filet mignon that was cooked into a hockey puck. It was so visibly bad that they comped the dish, without us even having to ask. The server was gracious enough to confirm how awfully it was cooked and took care of removing it from our bill. The service is fantastic, as is the atmosphere. Great wine list as well. Basically, just don't come here to eat. read more

1st let me start by saying that the wait staff and bartender were great. The place looks nice. The dipping oil was so salty that we couldn't touch it. When asked for butter we were given those foil wrapped frozen chunks. The potato soup was odd tasting, because they used nutmeg (nutmeg...really nutmeg). Stuffed mushrooms were bland. We got lasagna and sausage with peppers, both were lacking and very pedestrian. The highest rating would have to go to dessert. A chocolate mousse paired up with a Tawny Port (their suggestion & a good one too). We are planing to give it another try, in case we hit them on a bad night. read more
